entries for bayports 2k graphic contest

hi everyone!! here is a special chapter with graphics i made for bayports 2k graphic contest! (congrats again btw!!)

i followed bayports almost 3 years ago now because i thought their graphics looked so cool (and some of their stories also seemed interesting)! i'm pretty sure i followed right after their 600 followers contests ended, so i told myself if they ever did another one i would enter. which brings us to today!

warnings : i do not know moderation (& i wanted to practice) so i made a little something for all the stories. also i'm probably gonna ramble about everything, so sorry in advance. (see the havoc merch chapter : i love to over explain myself).

AMERICAN ANIMALS

font : chinese rock. it matches the condensed style of the font i choose for unspun (because they are sister stories) but the edges are imperfect so it has a grunge-esque style, which from the summary seems fitting.
— i was struggling with the colors, but i think the all pink looks pretty good. it also matches the cover i made.
— there's a spider web behind the text because it's a spider-woman story, but it's also another thing tying the american animals and unspun gifs.

CREATURE FEAR

font : teko (bold). it kinda looks like the captain america font (i didn't want the exact one, just the vibes).
— it's the same gif but in two coloring. (the red happened by accident, but i'm not mad about it). also i used a gif of maggie from designated survivor, i hope it's alright, i could not find hd videos of her in nikita.
— features a bullet hole because in bayports words creature fear is a "hydra killing road trip" so it's probably gonna feature guns. idk.

CRUSH

font : pirata one. went for an old time / religious font inspired by the different r in the cover.
— i read the summary and i had the cross-that-transforms-into-a-knife idea pop into my mind.
— there's a red and green version from the color palette and one with the knife in grey. also wanted some texture, bevel & emboss my saviour.

DYNASTY

font : akony (bold). i love this font (grotesk fonts my beloved). to me it gives space vibes. i had 3-5 font options for everything and i won't tell them all, but the runner-up for this was my favourite font : tan buster (but it was too condensed for what i wanted to do :( ).
— tried something different for the gif (characters at the center) and i'm not mad about it. it gives star wars poster vibes a little.

— i saw the stained-glass windows in the moodboard and i knew i had to do one. the guide sheet mentioned including the death watch or iron heart symbol, so i did a version with both. (to save everyone from my struggles, the effect is in the filter gallery under distort and is called glass.)

NOW YOU SEE ME

font : panchang (extra bold). idk nysm has extended font vibes.
— version 1 is pretty simple with a blue & red accents (🎶spider-man spider-man does whatever a spider can🎶) and the text is yellow because it gives taxi vibes, and you know taxi = new york.
— for version 2 i was suddenly reminded of a poster i saw a long time ago on instagram (by permanentglue) with some post-it style colored squares and i thought this could work to feature all the colors because i am obsessed with that color palette.

— this is really random, but i was creatively stuck (with i don't remember what) and thought i could make some trading cards. + fun fact the middle card picture is from me!

TIMEFIGHTER

font : squada one (written by bayports). this font is not that visible here but it's the same as the story's logo (see at the end of the chapter). it gave me old mystery book vibes.
— timefighter is written in ransom letters because is there something that screams mystery more? also inspired by the art for loveday's podcast.
— i was making gifs of suki in daisy jones and the six and i saw that graham and karen kiss scene and i thought "oh this could work for peter and loveday" so that's how this was born.

UNSPUN

font : brick sans bold. i can't explain why i choose that one, but it works so well.
— i made the same spider web as the american animals gif peek in the corner and behind the title, but it's more subtle.

BERENSTEIN

font : miss fajardose (berenstein) / cabinet grotesk light (written by bayports). i love this font the swatches do little hearts in the b and i thought it was so cute and fitting.
— i also made the same gif, but for witch burning.
— heart motif continues in the background hypnotic style

MISC COVERS

font : futura condensed (written by bayports). and titles are done by hand (i am addicted to making hand lettered covers)
— i knew i wanted to do matching* covers for creature fear and unspun since they're a duology but i also got the blood splatter idea from the american animals summary (& it's related but not really to unspun) so i did a matching* one for it too. *(matching as in same composition).

STORY "LOGOS"

font : the only fonts i haven't mentioned are the script for "written by bayports" on timefighter (romanesco) and the "witch burning" serif version (amoria)
— the different colors are just from the color palettes.
— now you see me has a wave that wasn't there on the gif (because it was too much) but is here for like ohhhh illusions.
