posters for my favorite characters in 30 minutes (each)

hello hello! long time no see! i didn't really plan to not post for this long (see : i made this almost a year ago) but like 30 other chapters, it was just collecting dust in my drafts, but i have an idea for a new poster challenge so i need to post this one.

i don't know how i got this idea exactly, but i decided to do posters for some of my favorite characters and to give myself a challenge i decided to do them in half an hour each. (this is inspired by kel lauren on youtube who did a video called "designing 15 logos in 15 minutes" and also elliotisacoolguy with his video called "i made 100 designs in 100 minutes")

i started with 6 characters and made the list shuffle (so i didn't start with the ones i was most excited first then loose inspiration) but after i started i wanted to add two more, and then i forgot about one so i had to add her. which bring the total to 9 (only female character because ✨women✨).

before starting i made moodboards (i wanted to show them before each poster but got too excited and forgot the 20 images per chapter limit, so here is all of them together) with like a brief sketch idea. and i also gathered all the images i wanted to use (because it takes so much time).

random graphic design info if anyone cares : i decided to have the same color palette for everything and a grid (which i tried to follow for most) because i wanted the poster to be coherent. the posters are 16x20 inches. each image has the same effect in photoshop which is noise, then noise and torn edges (from the filter gallery). and i'll include which font i used under each poster.

ELLIE WILLIAMS (THE LAST OF US)
almost two year ago, i watched the last of us tv show and ellie quickly became my new favorite character ever! then i also watched a playthrough of part ii and like ellie williams the woman that you are.

did i stop the timer : yes. to get a good image of the moth that's on ellie's tattoo.

my thoughts : not that bad, but i wish i would have done something more for the picture because it feels bland. also the quote is a little bit small i wanted to try 2 lines but i was out of time.

SAM CARPENTER (SCREAM)
last october i decided to watch all the scream movies and when i watched the 5th one i just immediately loved sam and tara so much. i decided to do one for sam specifically because i think she's such an interesting character and i would have loved to see where they took her. (but it won't happen, so fuck you paramount, spyglass & whoever else. stan melissa barrera and free palestine)

font : gotham
did i stop the timer : yes. i remembered seeing somewhere gotham is the font for scream (i might be wrong. it could be futura?) and i thought i had it downloaded, but i didn't.

my thoughts : love this one very cool. i would print this to hang on my wall, but i posted it online so no way. but if you see this as a poster/gif on tumblr mind your business.

AVA SILVA (WARRIOR NUN)
i love ava but to be honest i just really wanted to do something with the picture of her eye, i think it's so cool.

font : gambarino (one of my favorite fonts)
did i stop the timer : yes. 1-to get an image of a sword and 2-i had the yellowjackets soundtrack in the background, but i was home alone at night and it was a bad idea.

my thoughts : wanted to go for a church flyer/or something vibe. think i achieved that, but the swords are misaligned and it bothers me. also don't really like that folding effect, it looks fake.

MAX MAYFIELD (STRANGER THINGS)
my child, my little sister. i am still in denial, she is living her best life. i can't explain why but i love max so much. in the season 4 finale when you know what happens i was UGLY crying, it was bad.

did i stop the timer : yes. to get a picture of a walkman

my thoughts : something just doesn't work, but i can't pinpoint what. also i would change the font for something more retro.

SHAUNA SHIPMAN (YELLOWJACKETS)
i love shauna she is such an interesting character. i probably love shauna and nat equally, but i had a quote i wanted to use with shauna so. (credit to @maxanor on tumblr who made a shauna gifset with it). (also sophie nélisse you absolute star you should have 1. been nominated and 2. won that emmy).

font : roslindale (i am pretty sure it's the same font as the one they use on the show's instagram)
did i stop the timer : yes. to get the knife image.

my thoughts : again going for a semi church/religious vibe. i like it, but the knife blended in the picture (where her eye should be) kind of bothers me. purely accidental but love that the text doesn't cover her mouth (hehehe you know what happens in yellowjackets). looking at it now, maybe i would justify the "person" instead of making it center.

MARTHA NIELSEN (DARK)
dark is my favorite tv show ever! and i love martha so much!! (nobody loves her like i do).

font : gill sans (the same font as the show's logo)
did i stop the timer : i don't think so??

my thoughts : it's cool, but i think it's missing a pop of red somewhere. my goal was that the poster doesn't have a right way up, so i like that.

KATE BISHOP (HAWKEYE)
🎶 kate bishop i love youuu 😛 🎶. seriously kate if you read this i am available to go on a date whenever.

font : none. i hand drew that (with the pen tool).
did i stop the timer : no.

my thoughts : my brain went : "you remember the gif you made last year of kate on the bridge? that image + hand lettered text". i like it. i wish i had more time to adjust the letters but still cool. maybe could have put some small text in the bottom right idk.

NADJA OF ANTIPAXOS (WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS)
nadja is the best character she's so iconic.

font : chomsky
did i stop the timer : yes. the pictures i had weren't working so i was like i'll quickly get one, but it was in webp so i stopped to convert it. also went pass the timer to add noise to the background because it was an abomination.

my thoughts : the nadja didn't do the effects i wanted but anyways. also quote at the bottom would have placed it somewhere else maybe. you know what i actually hate this.

MADELINE USHER (THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER)
i cannot believe i almost forgot THE legend herself. i like madeline 50% because adult madeleine is played by willa fitzgerald, 30% because of the girlboss shit she does in the late 70's/80's (when she's played by willa) and 20% because of that finale speech.

did i stop the timer : no.

my thoughts : kind of similar to shauna's but i don't care. i really wanted to include her full speech, but it's just too long. still like it. you can look up the full speech online (and you should because it's very good) but here's my favorite part "...And we'll get around to funding AIDs research and diabetes and heart disease, just as soon as we figure out how to keep our geriatric dicks harder for a few more minutes. What's the market share on wimpy dicks, Roderick? 60, 70 percent of the healthcare industry. The Pentagon spent $83 million on Viagra last year. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court – the fucking Supreme Court – does its part, tears the autonomy, rips the liberty away from women, shreds not just their choice but their future, their potential. We turn men into cum fountains and women into factories..."

when the timer was done i had some posters left i didn't use as the final ones so enjoy. (i swear the ghostface mask for sam was white, but apparently not). (yes that madeline one is just the full speech).

after i was done with everything, i took some time to alternate a few things (and also edited some 11 months later).
-ellie : i tried a new picture with fire (the black one reminds me of the season 2 posters (which i love but 🏴‍☠️ season 2 thank you)).
-sam : i changed the blue to red (i like the blue better, but now it matches with the rest).
-ava : i put a different folded paper overlay.
-max : i had a flash the other day so here's a semi-new version inspired by vintage magazines ads (the font is futura extra bold).
-shauna : i followed my criticism (removed the knife in the photo and justified the word person) it looks much better. (if you also see this one as a poster/gif on tumblr mind your business)
-martha : i erased the parts of the pictures that were going outside the infinity symbol (i don't really like it).
-kate : some slight tweaks on the letters and i added "hawkeye (2021) at the bottom). + a color variation with the same colors as the gifset i mentioned.
-nadja : i added pictures with quotes and i do think it looks better.

since i did this a year ago i have some new favorite characters (kira yukimura, rain carrarine, elizabeth shaw <3 (to name a few)) so maybe i'll eventually do a part 2. (just realized i didn't think of enola holmes i am so sorry she will be added in pt2).
