Chapter 6
Alaister and Rosie arrived at their room, and were greeted by a red velvet dog bed at the foot of Alaister's four poster.
Rosie leaped up onto Alaister's bed, mouth ajar and tail wagging. Alaister chuckled.
"You silly girl Rosie, that's my bed. Your bed is down there" he said Ponting towards the dog bed. But Rosie just sat down, remaining on Alaister's bed. He sighed.
"Do what you wish" he heaved, falling into the bed himself. Rosie was very unsettled by the bed's sudden movement and casually jumped down onto her own bed.
"Rosie?" Alaister said suddenly, jolting upwards.
Rosie's ears pricked back.
"What do you think Fred was up to meeting that man?" He asked intrigued. He had been weighing up theories all afternoon. Maybe Fred was meeting the man for Aunt Beatrice? But then why would they be speaking poorly of her?
More and more questions ran through his mind as he slowly drifted off to sleep.
----------------------------------------
The light infiltrated his eyelids and he was forced to open them. He groaned. Eventually he sat up in his bed, and gazed across the room. Someone was opening the curtains. His eyes adjusted for a split second before he thought he recognised who it was.
"Jane?" He called and was shocked to find that the person that turned round was certainly not Jane.
"Oh I am sorry!" He exclaimed. "I thought you were Jane." The lady laughed lightly.
"Alas, Master Alaister, I am not." She replied.
"Don't mind me asking," Alaister continued " But who are you?" At this she grinned.
"My name is Evelyn" I'm a house maid here at the manor, but I've been assigned to your room while you're here" she said. She spoke with a very southern English accent, that in Alaister's opinion had the most delightful sound to it.
"Nice to meet you Evelyn" Alaister declared. Evelyn laughed.
"Nice to meet you too!" She said mimicking Alaister's confident tone. They both burst out laughing at her attempt.
"Alaister your Governess will be here very soon so I suggest you get dressed and ready" she announced. Alaister furrowed his eyebrows.
"Governess?"he asked confused.
"Did lady Beatrice not tell you? You have a governess to teach you and train you to become a 'proper gentlemen'- at least that is what I've been told"
"Oh" Alaister sighed, disappointed. Evelyn nodded smiling at him, before leaving the room.
"Wonderful" Alaister said to no one in particular. "A governess". He heaved himself out of his chair and prepared himself for this 'governess' who was supposedly coming in.
