SMOKE AND FIRE
❝Cause I'm a real tough kid, I can handle my shit
They said, "Babe, you gotta fake it till you make it" and I did
Lights, camera, bitch smile, even when you wanna die
He said he'd love me all his life
But that life was too short
Breaking down, I hit the floor❞
── I CAN DO IT WITH A BROKEN HEART, TAYLOR SWIFT
Los Angelos. The city of dreams. Where the sun shines bright, and the possibilities seem endless. A city for angels though sinners lie deep in the shadows. It's where creativity and innovation thrive, and the rhythm of life pulses through its streets. Its diverse culture and rich history come alive in its food, art, music, and people. Los Angeles, a city that inspires and captivates, where the dreamers and doers come to chase their passions and make their mark.
Though for Dallas Mayfield, Los Angeles held a different kind of allure. The city's bright lights and endless possibilities were tempered by the harsh realities of her own struggles. The shadows seemed to whisper secrets, and the rhythm of life pulsed with a beat that was both exhilarating and unforgiving.
She didn't grow up in Los Angeles, she was born in San Francisco to her mother Asami Sasaki Mayfield a free sprinted baker and her father Calvin Mayfield a chief of medicine. Since she was little, she only had happy memories of her parents. They were in love, a kind of love you only see in fairy tale movies and their love story seemed almost too perfect to be real. It was a house filled with laughter and memories until it all came crumble down with the reveal of her father's affair and the fairy tale shattered into a million pieces.
The laughter and memories that once filled their home were replaced with tears, anger, and heartbreak. Dallas's world was turned upside down as she struggled to come to terms with her father's betrayal. The man she had idolized, the chief of medicine with a perfect smile, had been leading a double life. The revelation of his affair was a brutal wake-up call, and Dallas's innocence was lost forever.
This resulted with leaving Dallas's mother, Asami, heartbroken and alone. The pain of her father's betrayal was compounded by the fact that he had chosen to build a new life with the woman he had cheated with, rather than working to repair his relationship with his daughter and former wife, along with the fact he took all the money they had, leaving them finically devastated as well.
Dallas watched as her mother struggled to come to terms with the loss of everything they had worked for, and the security they had once known. The weight of her father's actions fell heavily on both of them, and Dallas felt a deep sense of injustice and anger towards the man who was supposed to protect and provide for them.
So she decided she was going to do the protecting instead. With the help of her savings and the determination to forge her own path, Dallas set out to build a new life for herself and her mother.
She took on the role of caregiver and provider, determined to shield her mother from further pain and hardship. With her savings and a fierce resolve, Dallas began to lay the groundwork for a brighter future, one where she would be the rock her mother needed. She was no longer just a daughter; she was a guardian, a protector, and a source of strength.
It was this strength that helped her get through college with the help of her best friend Carlos, she made it and graduated with honors, a testament to her resilience.
This inspired her to pursue a new career choice, in becoming a firefighter a profession that demanded courage, strength, and a willingness to serve others. So both her and Carlos moved to Los Angeles. Carlos doing it so he could pursue his field in medicine and become an intern at the Los Angels Hospital.
While Dallas decided to join the Los Angels Fire Department (aka the 118) she was drawn to the fire department's sense of camaraderie and purpose, and she saw it as an opportunity to make a real difference. Rather than run into the own fires that were her problems, she decided to help those stuck in their own. The flames that had once threatened to consume her were now the very thing she was trained to extinguish.
She did, she made it out. Without his help. Without his guidance, she became who she was without her father. She had proven to herself that she didn't need her father's love or approval to be worthy, and that she was capable of creating her own destiny. And for the last couple of years, it was all she needed. The daily check in calls from her mother, her and Carlos rooming together in their small apartment and her crew. It was perfect, because it was hers. Sure her family was small but it was all she needed and that was enough.
Until he came back into her life. Her freaking father because he always had to just come back and haunt his eldest daughter, he was a whirlwind of reckless and he had slammed down onto her perfect little life.
Disrupting the carefully constructed balance she had achieved, and stirring up all the emotions she thought she had long buried. His return was like a storm, bringing with it a mix of anger, resentment, and unresolved issues. Dallas's life, which had been moving forward with purpose and direction, was once again thrown into chaos by her father's reappearance.
He moved to Los Angels in order to become the new chief there after the old one returned and following him in his return would be his mistresses who Dallas learned was name Gwen the same woman her father had an affair with, the same woman he had left her mother for. But what stun even more was the reveal of a child they had together. A secret love child that her father had with this woman while still married to her mother.
It was revelation that shook Dallas to her core. A sibling she had never known existed, a child born out of the affair that had destroyed her family. Carrie was her name. But if secret love child, deadbeat dads and dull mistresses wasn't enough to shake Dallas word, what left her questioning herself even more was the return of him.
Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz, her college sweetheart. The one person who had ever truly understood her, and the one person she thought she'd never see again.
One she never wanted too...because they were engaged to one another though it all fell apart the day she left Eddie at the altar...
And for some reason he was now back in her life again, fate now bringing them back to together though life becomes even more complicated when she realizes not only is Eddie in love with her, so is Evan Buckley...
