#9| A Picture Of Deja vu
❝ 𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝.❞
Sometimes, life makes us land up situations which feel too twisted to be true and it feels as if you're stuck in a blackhole.
With a painful goodbye to the little kid, the group of friends swiftly made their way towards the SUV. Taehyung took the driver's seat with Ruby sitting beside him on the front seat while the others settled at the back. Surprisingly, Jimin and Jena, quietly settled at the back while Calista and Jungkook walked slowed towards the vehicle.
The girl was still not in a very good state to walk around and hence, Jungkook walked behind her for assistance. She stumbled upon a rock and was about to fall but the male held her up by the arms, securely.
"Are you alright ?" He asked, looking at her with worry and she nodded meekily as a response.
The male, consumed with worry, didn't leave her arm even for a moment after that. For four hours they silently sat in the vehicle, sometimes looking outside the window too observe just how much the world around them has changed in twelve years. The park where they used to play as kids was more or less like an aesthetic picture point for youngsters, not a single kid could be seen there. Stores consisted of robots as sellers, even some of the consumers were robots, not a single human being could be seen carrying money, everything was digitalised.
Seoul certainly changed a lot and it looked dazzling in the night sky but something important was still missing- the night sky didn't have any stars like before, there wass greenery around but meagre trees, there were no kids playing around, everyone was stuck using their devices.
Everything was pretty, yet it missed that essence that makes the world human and beautiful.
The long journey surely filled their heads with various thoughts. Jungkook was silently gazing blankly at nowhere until he felt a weight on his shoulder, he turned around only to see Calista sleeping peacefully, her cheeks squishing up and a singleton tear rolled down from her eyes, indicating that she was in pain. Seeing her distress, he slowly and carefully wrapped his arm around her shoulders and soothingly patted her back, his gesture not going unnoticed by the group of friends who whistled teasingly at his gesture. The girls smirked to themselves, followed by their giggles and Jungkook sighed, tried his best to ignore them.
It was eleven in the night and after a tiring journey from Seoul to Incheon, they finally reached their destination.
The university.
With scurried and hushed steps, they entered the university through the back entrance as their was only two security guards sleeping soundly there. Jimin waved in front of one of the guards and the man moved in his position, making the others stop at their positions but soon the man slept again and they moved forward only to halt once again.
The second security guard slapped his own face in an attempt to kill the mosquito and apparently, woke up with blurred vision only to go back to sleep once again.
They all let out a breath of relief and walked further with cat-like steps, sprinting towards the playground which was devoid of any human intervention because the students were in their dorms and to their utmost luck, this specific place was having a lack of security.
They walked over to the same place where they stood twenty four hours ago and searched everywhere to find any little thing that might help them out, everything felt like a clue to their escape.
Unfortunately, nothing could be found until the hologram popped out of their devices to remind them about the last one hour left. They all stood beside each other in a line listening to the automated voice of the hologram, which displayed in front of them like a bluish-green translucent mesh.
"There's only one hour left!" The hologram sneered and Calista thought for a moment, recalling its words from before.
"Wait! You said we can use one hint whenever we want! Give us that hint!" She affirmed and the hologram laughed in its AI generated voice, continuing further.
"Finally, someone smart in your group." It spoke in a mocking tone. Jungkook rolled his eyes while Jimin clenched his jaw in annoyance.
"Cut out the blabber and say the hint!" Taehyung warned, ready to throw hands at the hologram.
"Alright! This is the hint - 'You will go back in the same manner you came here'." It gave the first and the last hint and vanished into thin air, as if it never existed, leaving everyone on a standstill.
"The same way we came..." Ruby muttered under her breath, trying to decipher the words and soon, something clicked in her head.
"Let's click a picture from Snapshot!" Jena yelled, finally joining the dots and the others nodded in affirmation.
They did as instructed– stood at the same place near the playground and clicked a picture but to their utmost dismay, nothing happened.
"Let's click another picture." Jimin suggested.
For the next couple of hours, they clicked almost a hundred pictures of themselves but nothing changed except that the timer read, "10 minutes more."
"No no no! There must be a way!" Jena ruffled her hair anxiously, her patience hitting its limit.
"What if we stand in the same way we stood before?" Taehyung suggested his share of an idea and everyone followed without a thought because time was running out, painfully fast.
They stood in the same manner– Jungkook and Calista in the middle, Ruby and Taehyung on the right of Calista and Jena and Jimin on the left of Jungkook.
Once again, a picture was clicked by Jimin but still...
Nothing happened.
"What fuckery is this?!" Jena screamed, unable to hold in her vexation and Jimin held her by her arms to stop her from throwing hands at the device, now turned to the deepest shade of red, indicating the deadline nearing.
The timer read one minute more and a cold chill ran down everyone's spine. They gulped looked at each other flabbergasted because if they didn't click a picture now... everything would get messed up.
Their counterparts would have to live in the past and they... will be forever trapped in the future.
Suddenly, an important information clicked in Jungkook's brain, "Who said shit about the future, when we clicked the picture?" He asked, expecting a quick answer and everyone pointed towards Jimin.
"Say the same shit again, with the word 'present' ! FAST!" He glared at the male and ordered, making him follow his orders instantly. The last ten seconds were left.
"W-What if we really end up in the present after clicking this picture?!" Jimin uttered, their last resort was bound by a thin line. They tightly shut their eyes as Snapshot indicated 'three, two, one' and...
A picture was clicked.
