A Perfect Coincidence
Okay so this is actually based on a tiktok made by @ameliagonzales. in the comment section someone had a brilliant idea in response to it, and then someone ELSE said someone should fic it so... here i am!
I want to emphasize that this plot was NOT my idea, but i didn't want to drop anyone's tiktok username for credit without their consent.
anyways... here we go!
The wind whistled in Anakin's ears as his hair tickled his frost bitten face. Even from behind the shadow of the hood of the oversized cloak he had leant to Rex, he could tell that his Captain's cheeks had gone even more pink with cold with each howl the wind let out.
He assumed that his own had as well, but he didn't make much of a habit of observing his reflection in the neon-light-lined windows of the shops as they made their way to the cantina.
"You're certain this is a good idea, Sir?" Rex asked, a sigh on edge of his breath. "I don't want to cause any trouble-"
"No one is going to know that you're a clone with that thing on," Anakin replied, walking backwards so he could face him.
"No disrespect, Sir-"
"I asked you to call me Anakin. Please. I just want to..." he turned back around, eyes finding his boots as he ran a hand through his hair. "I just want to forget about the war for tonight. We're not 'Captain' and 'General'- just two friends going out to have a good night."
"Sure thing... Sir."
"Rex," Anakin groaned, tossing his head back with an eye roll as Rex laughed.
He chuckled along with him as they opened the door to the cantina, grins immediately spreading across their faces as upbeat music greeted them.
"Live music tonight," Anakin noted, nodding his head. "This place got great reviews in the entertainment section."
"Yeah, well how about the drinks section?" Rex asked, nodding his head towards the bar.
"Guess we'll just have to go find out for ourselves," Anakin replied, clapping him on the back as he made his way over to a stool.
"What can I get you fellas?" drawled the bartender, a tall rodian man with a scratchy voice.
Rex cleared his throat attempting to put on a Coruscanti accent as he said,
"Spotchka for me, and..." he trailed off, looking at Anakin.
"Bloody Rancor," Anakin answered.
If the bartender had recognized Rex's voice, he didn't make it obvious as he turned around to retrieve their drinks.
Rex whistled out a sigh of relief, his head turning to the side to see the formation of a large crowd in front of the stage.
He turned back to see Anakin swiveling his stool in half-circles as he waited for their orders to arrive.
"What's going on over there?" Anakin asked, cocking his head toward the growing crowd. Rex shrugged as a clink sounded, their drinks arriving in front of them.
"Ahh, it's that Ashla girl. Made quite a name for herself singing 'round these parts. Comes to perform here once a week. Always our busiest night," the bartender explained as Anakin slid credits into his open hand.
"Guess we were lucky enough to come on the right day," Rex noted, sipping his drink. Anakin nodded in agreement, falling back into a routine of spinning his stool from side to side as music began to play.
"Come on," he said, hopping off of his chair. "Let's go join the crowd."
Rex shrugged following him into the swarm of people. They couldn't see the singer from their place in the back, and the stage was quite small.
"Guess we'll just be listening then," Rex joked as the performer began to sing.
Her voice was different than anything either of them had ever heard on the radio- soft, like it shouldn't work for the upbeat song she was belting, yet, it worked just perfectly at the same time.
But there was also something distinctly familiar about her.
As Rex turned to look at Anakin, he couldn't help but feel sorry for him as he took in his pained expression. His eyebrows furrowed as he listened, the fist that wasn't holding a drink clenched. The smile from earlier had slipped off of his face.
And Rex's breath hitched as he understood that Anakin was struggling with the same thought as him- Ashla sounded a lot like Ahsoka.
The wound that his Padawan's- old Padawan's -departure had left on Anakin was still fresh, and it hurt Rex to watch him crumble on the one night when he had wanted nothing more than to forget about all the horrible things going on in his life.
To his surprise however, Anakin grabbed his arm, pulling him through the crowd, pushing people aside to get closer to the stage.
"Sir- er -Anakin, what are you...?"
"No," Anakin muttered. "There's no way..."
They were only a few feet away from the front of the crowd, the identity of the singer still hidden behind the large head of a wookiee.
Anakin narrowed his eyes, determined to get himself to the front. He strode forward, continuously shaking his head at his own foolish thoughts.
"There's no way," he whispered. "It isn't-"
"It is!" Rex gasped, his shout almost inaudible from the screaming crowd. Ashla- or Ahsoka -was absolutely killing it.
Anakin's eyes widened, and he was vaguely aware of his glass slipping from his hand, his beverage splattering all over his boots.
"THAT'S MY VOD'IKA!" Rex shouted, cupping his hands to be sure that she could hear him over the crowd.
"Yeah..." Anakin sputtered, the reality of the situation finally washing over him. "WOOOO!" he called, almost laughing. "THAT'S MY SNIPS! THAT'S MY LITTLE SISTER!"
Ahsoka's voice caught in her throat for a moment, but she quickly recovered, blue eyes searching the crowd for the owners of the voices.
Rex and Anakin jumped up and down, whooping along with the crowd as Ahsoka sang, waving their hands at her.
"Did you know she could sing like this?" Rex asked.
"I had no idea!"
She finished her song, stumbling backwards as the applause rippled through the room. It was nearly impossible to make out a face in the crowd from where she stood, but she looked hard for them nevertheless. She had not been hearing things- she was certain of it. Anakin and Rex were there.
Before she knew what was happening, a pair of familiar hands had found hers. She tilted her head down, finding something even more familiar- those blue eyes.
"What the hell?!" she exclaimed as she jumped off of the platform and into Anakin's waiting arms. Two of her headtails fell into his face as he lifted her, laughing loudly before crushing her in a hug, her feet still dangling above the ground. She was laughing too as he kissed her firmly on the cheek. She turned her head to kiss him back.
"Quite the coincidence, eh Commander?"
"Rex, holy Force!" she continued, reaching one arm around his neck to pull him into a group hug with her and Anakin. "I never even said goodbye."
"Well, I won't hold it against you," he whispered with a smile as Anakin reluctantly handed her over to him. She squeezed him tightly, burying her face in his shoulder.
"What are you both doing here?" she asked as she hopped down onto the floor.
"We just came to get a drink!" Anakin exclaimed. "We had no idea that you would be here, but I guess I really am stuck with you, huh?"
"I... guess so!" Ahsoka answered, her cheeks hurting from how wide she was now smiling. She buried her face in her hands, laughing at the insanity of the situation.
"And you can sing," Rex said, clapping her on the back.
"Hell yeah, you can," Anakin agreed. Ahsoka smiled sheepishly at the floor.
"Surprise?" she whispered, throwing her hands out to the side.
Anakin and Rex both surged forward to hug her again, the group stumbling in an awkward circle.
Ahsoka sighed.
"I really, really missed you guys."
hopefully the person who asked for this sees it... if not, i hope y'all enjoyed!
