chapter four.

One of the many things Caitlyn liked about working at Gwendolyn's? She was right across the street from the coffee shop Frankie worked at.

No, Caitlyn didn't like buying any coffee from the shop–it was disgusting, but she enjoyed Frankie's company so during her breaks, she would walk next door and sit with Frankie in the empty coffee shop during her hour long lunch before she'd head back to the restaurant to waitress.

Caitlyn didn't expect to walk into the coffee shop and find out Frankie broke up with Trey.

Luckily, Caitlyn stopped by the cafe shop after she had already clocked out of her shift for the day because she had been listening to Frankie talk about her breakup with Trey for the past hour.

Apparently, Frankie broke up with Trey because she didn't like what he had done to Devin and thought he was reckless because Devin could've gotten seriously hurt.

Caitlyn thought Devin did get seriously hurt and thought that made Trey an asshole, not reckless, but she didn't tell Frankie that.

The cafe doors and the bell above it ringing stopped the girls conversation. Caitlyn turned in her barstool she sat on and smiled at Cece and Devin walking in.

"Oh, hey, guys. What's up?" Frankie asked, looking back and forth between the twins. Neither of them gave much of their attention: Cece made a beeline to the wall of drinks across the cafe and Devin cluelessly trailing behind her.

"Where is your kombucha? I'm literally dying." Cece asked, barely looking over her shoulder to face Frankie.

"Oh, we just ran out." Frankie said just as Cece reached the wall of drinks. The blondes face fell and she turned to look in front of her, her eyes scanning over all of the bottles and cans in hopes Frankie wasn't telling the truth and there actually was kombucha.

When she didn't see any, Cece walked toward the counter, pressing her palms onto the wood right beside Caitlyn aggressively. "Well, when's your next shipment?" Cece asked and from beside her, Caitlyn took a slow sip of her poorly-made chai, a small grin growing on her face as she watched the scene play out.

Frankie chuckled, shaking her head and ignoring the way Cece's face somehow dropped even more. "Never." Frankie hummed, tossing the washcloth in her hand over her shoulder as she started to walk back toward the coffee machine.

Cece scoffed, pushing herself off of the counter with an eye roll. "An 'A' rating is something this coffee shop won't ever get." She grumbled. Frankie heard her words and whipped her head around to glare at the girl. Cece sighed, raising her hand defensively. "No offense." She added.

Frankie didn't respond, looking to Caitlyn next to Cece instead. Caitlyn didn't know if Frankie turned to her for back up or to just silently say, "are you kidding me?" but in all honesty, Caitlyn completely agreed with Cece. The coffee shop never had any ingredients for most drinks, the coffee machine itself hardly worked, and Caitlyn was pretty sure the milk in her drink was bad.

So, Caitlyn just shrugged. That was when she realized Frankie wanted backup.

Frankie sighed in defeat and stopped cleaning the coffee machine to turn to face Cece completely. "Well, we do have coffee." She pointed out, but Cece just rolled her eyes again.

"Barf."

"Yoo-hoo's brown, right?" Devin asked, walking toward the three girls. Caitlyn turned to him just as he tossed the chocolate milk in his hands into the air, letting it flip around itself once before he caught it. "That must have some of the same stuff as kombucha." He hummed, pushing the milk into his sisters chest.

Frankie threw her hands out and smiled at the girl. "There you go!" She cheered, earning a proud chuckle from Devin. Cece and Caitlyn just stared at the chocolate milk in Cece's hands, Caitlyn's eyebrows furrowing as she shook her head.

"I don't think that's how that works..." She muttered more to herself than anything. Her words were cut off by Cece slamming the chocolate milk down onto the counter right beside Caitlyn, making her jump,

"No. Seriously, no. A million times, no. Okay?" Cece yelled, looking between Frankie and Devin with wide eyes.

Caitlyn didn't know why Cece was freaking out without any kombucha, but if she didn't want the Yoo-Hoo that badly, she was happy to take it off the girls hands. Her eyebrows raised as she slowly reached for the bottle. "I mean... if you won't have it..." Caitlyn muttered, snatching the chocolate milk once no one stopped her or complained.

She opened the bottle and tipped the top of it to Frankie before bringing it to her lips. "Put it on my tab, Frank." Caitlyn cheered and Frankie pressed her hands on the counter across from Caitlyn, her eyebrows raised sarcastically as she stared down at the sitting girl.

"You mean my friends and family discount?" Frankie asked and Caitlyn, still taking a long sip of the milk, hummed in agreement and winked to the girl.

"I gotta get to debate camp." Cece blurted as Caitlyn closed the milk bottle and set it down next to her chai latte. She turned around in her barstool and watched as Cece turned to Devin beside her, "I know you don't like walking home alone, so..." Cece's eyes moved around the cafe until they locked with Caitlyn's.

Cece's smile doubled in size and her entire body practically perked up. "Caitlyn! Would you give him a ride?" Cece asked, heading toward the door to leave no matter what Caitlyn was about to say.

Caitlyn's mouth opened and closed as she watched Cece start to walk out of the cafe. "Oh! Um... I walked." She called out to the girl, but Cece only smiled at that.

"Perfect! You can be his walking buddy." Cece cheered and before anyone could object, she walked out of the cafe.

Caitlyn, her lips still parted, watched the girl go with a simple blink in surprise. After a couple seconds, Caitlyn turned to face forward in her seat, but her head craned to Devin still standing a few feet away from her with a nervous smile.

When Caitlyn's eyes landed on him, Devin's entire face started to turn pink and he took slow steps toward her. "Hi." He chuckled out, taking the seat next to Caitlyn at the counter.

"Hey." Caitlyn whispered back, resting her chin against her palm.

Devin looked away from Caitlyn to try and hide his blush from her—which didn't work.

His eyes landed on Frankie right in front of him, the girl leaning on the counter with her palms pressed hard against the wood while she watched Caitlyn and Devin with an amused smile,

"Hi, Frankie." Devin said as he cleared his throat, completely forgetting the girl was there and now feeling embarrassed that she was witnessing his awkwardness with Caitlyn.

Frankie gave the boy a genuine smile and reached up to pull the towel off her shoulder to start to clean the counter. "Hey. Listen, I'm really sorry about the other night. I just hate it when Trey's like that. So, I don't know. It's kind of why we sort of just... broke up, I think." She rambled with a shrug. Her eyes moved to Caitlyn beside Devin and she nodded her head to the girl.

"I've already bored Cait enough with the details so..." Frankie looked back to Devin and raised her eyebrows. "What do you want?"

Devin hesitated, his mouth opening and closing as he just blinked at Frankie.

After a couple seconds, Devin realized he was gonna have to say something because now Caitlyn was looking at her, her face completely contrasting Frankie's—instead of raised eyebrows, Caitlyn's furrowed at Devin's silence.

"What do I want? Um... Well, what I..." Devin stuttered over his words. He looked past Frankie, to the menu hanging behind her, but nothing looked good.

Devin grimaced a little and still looking up at the cursive letters staring back at him, he leaned to his left so he was closer to Caitlyn. "What do I want?" He whispered.

Caitlyn giggled, turning to face Devin. Their faces were close and it made her stomach flip, but Devin was still staring at the menu in front of them so luckily, he didn't see the way she was fighting the giddy smile on her face.

"Are you asking me what's good?" Caitlyn asked, her voice almost coming out as if she were teasing him.

Devin hummed a yes, turning to face Caitlyn. His face broke out into a smile when he saw how close their faces were.

Caitlyn licked her lips, looking over Devin's face and trying her hardest not to focus on his lips.

She turned back to Frankie and the menu, smacking her lips playfully. She rested her chin in her hand and pretended to think about what to get Devin before she answered.

"What Devin really wants is a half-caf, double-skim macchiato." Caitlyn muttered in a playful tone. She raised her hand and pointed to Frankie, a smirk growing on both girls lips. "But because I'm here probably as much as I'm at Gwen's and I know for a fact CJ delivers coffee to you, I'm guessing that you just ran out."

Frankie giggled and her face broke out into a smile. "Ding! Ding! Ding!" She sang, raising a finger and waving it every time she said the word "ding!"

"On the nose there, Montez." Frankie teased, turning around to come up with some drink to make Devin.

Caitlyn chuckled, taking a sip of her chai. "Always am." She hummed and when she put her drink back down onto the table, Caitlyn turned to face Devin and playfully tapped her nose. "Like Rudolf."

...

Caitlyn walked Devin back to the street and headed home after passing his house.

When she walked inside her house, she smiled at her dog, Dakota, running right to the door. Caitlyn bent down to be at the same height as her doberman and immediately started to scratch behind the dogs ears.

"Hey, Kota..." Caitlyn hummed, giggling as her dog leaned forward to lick her face.

Dakota—Kota for short, walked right by Caitlyn until she reached the front door. She spun around until she was facing Caitlyn before sitting down with a small huff. Kota looked back and forth between Caitlyn and the door before settling her eyes on Caitlyn and tilting her head, a small whine leaving her lips.

Caitlyn let out a tired chuckle, standing back up and grabbing the leash she and her dad let hang on the coat hanger. "You want to go outside?" Caitlyn asked and Kota immediately perked up at the mention of outside, her tail wagging fast and smacking the door hard.

Caitlyn put the leash on Kota and led her outside for a walk. She took her down their normal route around the block and by the time she looped around back to her own street and started to walk back toward her house, Caitlyn noticed Devin and Trey fighting just outside of the Brewer household.

Caitlyn's steps quickened and Kota immediately caught up with her, walking a little faster than her when she heard the commotion.

When Trey punched Devin in the face, Caitlyn was sprinting, not even caring that she was holding onto a dog probably the size of her if standing on her hind legs.

"Hey, hey! Stop it!" Caitlyn yelled, running toward the two boys. Dakota was quick to follow and then pass Caitlyn and as soon as she was close enough, Dakota jumped up and pushed her hind legs into Trey, pulling him off of Devin.

"What are you doing?!" Caitlyn shrieked, calming Dakota down as she stepped in between Trey and Devin.

Trey scoffed, looking past Caitlyn to angrily point at Devin. "What? Afraid I'm gonna hurt your little boyfriend?" He spat and Caitlyn rolled her eyes, glaring up at the boy as she let out the same scoff as him.

"Oh, what are you? Twelve?" Caitlyn mocked and Treys jaw clenched. He looked away from Caitlyn and to Devin behind her. Trey took a threatening step toward him, one that was immediately blocked by Caitlyn stepping in his way. Still, Trey raised his hand and pointed at Devin.

"Stay away from Frankie, all right?" Trey warned.

From behind Caitlyn, Devin let out a dry laugh. "Or what, you're gonna give me a green neck with your fake-ass silver chain?" He asked and instantly, Treys angry demeanor dropped and his face flushed.

He took a step back, his eyes nervously bouncing back and forth between Caitlyn and Devin.

"It's not fake, okay? My aunt got it for me in L.A. It's not fake, all right? It's real!" Trey stuttered out. Caitlyn sighed, taking a small step closer to Trey and gently pushing him back, closer to his house.

"Just go home, Trey." She whispered, but she didn't know if Trey was actually hearing her. He was practically glaring daggers into Devin behind her. It wasn't until around five seconds later that Caitlyn knew Trey was listening when he looked to her and finally started to walk back toward his place.

Caitlyn waited until Trey was walking up his doorsteps before she turned to Devin. As Trey started to open his front door, Caitlyn spun around, her eyes wide as she looked Devin up and down for any injuries.

"Are you alright?" Caitlyn asked gently, taking a step toward Devin, Kota walking ahead of her to sniff the boy.

Devin sighed, trying his hardest not to look like he was in as much pain as he was actually in. He tried to nod his head, but ended up wincing in the process. "Yeah, I'm fine." He groaned, lying straight through his teeth.

Caitlyn's eyes softened when she noticed the blood coming from Devin's lip. She took another step toward the boy and her hand raised. Just before she could touch his face, Caitlyn froze. "Devin, you're bleeding..." She whispered, her hand dropping.

Devin didn't want Caitlyn to worry. He sighed and tried to step away from her. "Caitly–"

"Come on." Caitlyn cut him off, grabbing Devin's arm and tugging him down the street.

Devin's face scrunched, his words sputtering out of his mouth as he looked back and forth between Caitlyn and Dakota. "Wha- where are we going?" Devin asked as Caitlyn passed her trashcan. She quickly lifted the black lid and tossed the doggy bag inside with her hand holding Kota's leash.

Caitlyn looked back at Devin just as they reached the walkway leading up to her house. She rolled her eyes at the obvious question and nodded her head toward her front door.

"To my house. Duh." Caitlyn said just as they reached her front door. With her eyes still on Devin, Caitlyn opened the door and pulled Devin and Kota inside. She let go of Devin's hand for a second to take the leash off Kota before she grabbed Devin's hand again and let her up to her room.

She led him to her bed and once he was seated, Caitlyn darted out of the room and to the bathroom. She quickly washed her hands and then pulled her first-aid kit out from under the sink. When she came back into her bedroom, Devin watched as Caitlyn dragged her desk chair over and sat down in front of him. She flipped open the kit, pulling out antiseptic wipes and bandages.

"Okay, hold still..." Caitlyn whispered, her expression softening as she leaned in to dab at his forehead.

Devin gulped. Caitlyn was extremely close to him right now. He held his breath as her fingers cleaned up his lip, her face only inches from his. Her breath fanned across his face, and he felt his heart leap into his throat.

Caitlyn tried her hardest not to focus on the fact that Devine as staring at her. She bit her lip to hide her smile as she reached for a new wipe, her other hand gently holding the edge of Devin's chin to keep him looking at her.

"Almost done." She whispered under her breath, but Devin could hear her as clear as day.

When she finally finished cleaning up his bloodied lip, Caitlyn lowered her hands from Devin's face and smiled. "There." She whispered, her face staying just as close to Devin's as it was when she was helping him.

She looked up from Devin's busted lip to his eyes and their eyes finally met. Devin just couldn't look away from her, and he couldn't get over the fact that her face was so close to his.

Their noses were practically touching and—

Did Caitlyn just look down at his lips?

Devin couldn't seem to stop himself. He leaned forward, and Caitlyn's breath hitched, but she didn't pull back.

Or at least she didn't until she heard a blood curdling scream from the house next door.

Caitlyn and Devin sprang apart from each other and Caitlyn felt her heart rise up to her throat. She tried to swallow down the feeling, but she just could shake the bad feeling settling all across her body.

Her eyes nervously moved to Devin, her face visibly paling.

"That was a- that was a sc-scream? R-right?" Caitlyn asked, her voice wavering and her stutter coming back strong. Her hands shook by her sides and Devin noticed. He cursed under his breath, remembering how Caitlyn just told him how her stutter only came back when she was feeling the extremity of her emotions.

Devin grabbed Caitlyn's hand and shot off her bed. Even though he was scared shitless, he tried his hardest not to show it so he wouldn't freak Caitlyn out more.

His hand—that fit perfectly in Caitlyn's—squeezed hers and he rubbed gently circles up and down the side of her hand to calm her down.

"We've gotta go. Now." Devin breathed out, starting to tug Caitlyn out of the room.

The two of them ran out of the house and as soon as they were outside, the screaming only got louder. But Caitlyn heard a faint noise with it.

Her steps quickened and she ended up running ahead of Devin when she realized the screaming and monstrous roaring was coming from Devin's house.

And her heart practically sank when she realized the screams were Frankie.

Caitlyn let go of Devin's hand instantly as she ran toward the house. Caitlyn's never ran so fast in her entire life. She felt like she was flying as she sprinted toward the Brewer house.

"Frankie!" Caitlyn screamed and just as she reached the front of the home, the front door completely broke off its hinges and a monster—that almost looked like a person with only its muscles and tendons left stepped out of the house holding Frankie over its shoulder.

Caitlyn let out a blood curdling scream. She could've sworn she was dreaming or at least in some sort of nightmare.

"Frankie!" She screamed again as Devin pulled her a couple feet away from the steps leading toward his house. His eyes snapped around the front yard, trying to look for something—anything to help free Frankie from this monsters grasp.

Frankie shakily lifted her head and tried her hardest to twist and see the face to Caitlyn's voice.

"Caitlyn?" Frankie cried and the monster holding her only roared louder, its grip on Frankie tightening. Frankie wailed and Caitlyn used all her strength to push herself out of Devin's grip to try and help Frankie. Caitlyn didn't care if she was gonna have to try and fist fight this monster, it wasn't gonna take Frankie just like that.

"Caitlyn!" Devin screamed, running after Caitlyn. From the monsters arms, Frankie let out a small whimper hearing her friends around her. "Caitlyn! Devin, get out of here! Please!" She cried.

But Caitlyn didn't listen. She ran at the bloody monster, bending down to grab a foot long and a good four inches thick fallen branch from the tree on Devin's front lawn. Caitlyn twirled the branch in her hands before raising it behind her head like a baseball bat.

"Stay away from her!" Caitlyn yelled through her gritted teeth.

Once she was close enough, Caitlyn swung the branch and hit the monster on the side of its head. The monster screeched in pain, his head whipping to the side, but his grip on Frankie still strong.

He only needed a few seconds to recover and when Caitlyn tried to swing at him again, the monster let go of Frankie with one hand and latched it around Caitlyn's neck.

Caitlyn let out a choked gasp, the branch sliding out of her hands as the monster lifted her off the ground.

"Caitlyn!" Devin screamed, but Caitlyn could hardly hear him over her heartbeat thumping in her ears. Her chest burned and she clawed at the monsters wrist to try and get any air in her lungs, but she couldn't get a good grip on the monster.

"Oh, shi—" Caitlyn's breathy, choked words were cut off by her own screaming when the monster suddenly threw her into the grass ten feet away.

"Caitlyn!" Devin screamed as Caitlyn felt onto the soft and wet patch of grass. Caitlyn felt the wind knock out of her lungs and she found it hard to let any air in. Her whole body fell into some state of shock and all she could do was groan, curling into herself.

Devin watched Caitlyn anxiously, but when his eyes moved back to the monster that hurt her, all of that anxiety twisted into anger.

He let out a scream as he ran at the monster.

He had no plan. He had no weapon. But this monster hurt Caitlyn and was gonna take Frankie. He had to do something.

Devin raised his fist as he got closer, ready to punch the monster in the face, but the creature caught his fist inches before he could make impact. The monster twisted Devin's fist in its massive hand and Devin let out a sharp yelp of pain. Before he could even try to pull away, the creature let go—only to grab a handful of Devin's shirt instead.

With one simple pull of his arm, the monster hurled Devin through the air like he weighed nothing.

Devin slammed into one of the white pillars that held up the roof of his porch. The sound of the impact echoed through the front yard and he fell into the grass, landing about five feet away from Caitlyn.

Caitlyn, still curled up on the wet grass, forced her head up with a shaky breath. Her whole body screamed at her to stay down, but her eyes blurred as she tried to check on Devin and Frankie. She couldn't hold herself up for long. Her arms trembled and her head spun, her vision tilting and blurring.

"No! No! Let go!" Frankie's screamed as the monster readjusted Frankie on its shoulder and started walking away.

Caitlyn's heart sank. dug her fingers into the grass and forced herself up. Every inch of her body begged her to lay back down and her legs barely held her up. She stumbled toward Devin, almost tripping over her own feet even though he was so close.

Caitlyn dropped down hard onto her knees in front of him, reaching out to gently pat his cheek, trying to shake him awake.

"Devin." She whispered, her voice breaking.

Caitlyn tapped his cheek a little harder and then shook his shoulders. "Dev, get up. We have to help Frankie. Please."

Devin let out a low groan, his face twisting in pain. Caitlyn went back to patting his cheek gently, hopping it would get  him to open his eyes. After a few seconds, Devin finally blinked frantically, trying to clear his spinning vision.

Caitlyn grabbed his shoulders to steady him as she pulled him up. His hands moved to his head to stabilize himself from how dizzy he was and he let out a tired, pained groan. "We have to go." Caitlyn told him, swallowing down something that she couldn't tell was nerves or actual bile.

Devin's blinks started to slow, but his breathing was heavy and his balance was still wonky. Finally, he turned to Caitlyn, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Devin wanted to check on her just like she helped him back at her house, especially since he noticed the side of her head was bleeding.

But as much as he wanted to focus on Caitlyn right now, he knew they had to help Frankie. Devin let out a tired exhale, his vision starting to get a little clearer.

"How do we know where he's taking her?" Devin asked as Caitlyn turned to look down the street where the monster had just ran. Her eyes trailed down and they immediately widened when she big, bloody footprints leaving a trail.

Caitlyn let out a shaky breath, her eyes glued on the footprints that led all the way down the street. "I think I have an idea." She whispered.

The two of them followed the footsteps as fast as they could. Caitlyn's throat and lungs burned from both the running and from being strangled just moments ago. She didn't know how much longer she could run, but when she and Devin followed the footprints into Trey's dads auto shop, Caitlyn's steps started to slow.

"What the hell..." She muttered under her breath, looking around the shop and the line of cars parked in the lot.

Devin was the one to see Frankie first. Without thinking, he ran toward her and the monster inside.

"Frankie!" Devin yelled, making Caitlyn look back toward him to see what happened. As soon as she saw the monster look away from Frankie and to her and Devin, Caitlyn's heart sunk.

Caitlyn ran after Devin just as the monster started to run toward the two of them.

When Devin heard Caitlyn running up behind him, he stuck his arm out without even looking back, blocking her from getting any closer to the monsters. "Get behind me! Get behind me!" Devin whispered to Caitlyn, gently pushing her behind him as he stepped closer to the monster.

The monster grabbed the collar of Devin's shirt with both hands and lifted him up instantly.

"No!" Caitlyn and Frankie screamed, Frankie running over from inside the shop and Caitlyn trying to grab a hold of Devin from the monsters grasp. Just as Caitlyn's fingers grazed Devin's, the monster threw him across the lot.

Devin landed with a loud thump on the cement, just under Trey's car that was suspended in the air for repairs. Caitlyn didn't even care that the monster was standing right next to her. Her heart sank and she bolted toward him

"Devin!"

Caitlyn reached Devin just as Frankie did. Devin's eyes were closer and he groaned in pain as the two girls bent down to help him sit up.

When Devin opened his eyes and saw Frankie and Caitlyn above him, his eyes almost popped out of his head. He sat up, ignoring the painful head-rush he got from it and gave the girls a pleading look.

"Caitlyn. Frankie, get out of here." Devin said, his voice quieter and shakier in pain. His hands reached out to grab both of Caitlyn's and when Caitlyn looked down at the interlaced hands, she shook her head, her mouth opening and closing in shock.

"Wh–What? No. No, we're n–not leaving." Caitlyn tried to reason, but with their held hands, Devin started to push her backwards and away from him, ultimately pushing Frankie back too since she was crouched down behind Caitlyn.

"Get out of here, please!" Devin whispered in a begging voice.

Caitlyn felt her throat start to burn as she looked down at Devin, shaking her head. From behind her, Frankie stood up and grabbed Caitlyn's shoulders, pulling her up and then behind her so she wouldn't try and get to Devin.

"No. No. No. No." Caitlyn whispered under her breath as Frankie stepped back, forcing Caitlyn to as well.

Caitlyn watched helplessly as the monster took slow strides toward Devin still laying beneath Trey's car.

"Trey, stop!" Frankie screamed and Caitlyn felt her stomach churn.

She slowly turned to face Frankie in front of her, her face falling.

"T–Trey?" Caitlyn whispered, but Frankie didn't respond. Her sole focus was on getting this monster––Trey, apparently––away from from.

"Trey, please!"

The monster roared, reaching down to grab onto Devin again. Frankie jumped forward, grabbing a hold of the lever that would drop the car down with both hands.

"Shit!" Caitlyn yelled. She pushed past Frankie and fell directly onto her knees to get closer to Devin. She ignored the pain shooting up and down her legs and grabbed Devin's arm and yanked.

Just as Frankie pulled the lever, Caitlyn rolled Devin out from under the car, making the car crush the monster underneath.

The car smashing onto the ground so close to Caitlyn made her and Devin's ears ring and the blood from the monster splattered onto the two of them. Caitlyn let go of Devin lying in her lap to cover her ears.

She winced in pain and cringed at the blood, dropping her head as she tried to catch her breath.

When Caitlyn opened her eyes, her head was still lowered and her eyes landed right on Devin in her lap, his eyes shut and his hand pressed down on his rapid-moving chest.

Caitlyn was quick to lean all the way down and pull Devin into a hug. The boy yelped, not seeing the hug coming since his eyes were closed, but as soon as he realized it was only Caitlyn, he relaxed.

The hug was a little uncomfortable and one of Caitlyn's ribs was definitely jabbing Devin's stomach, but she didn't care. Neither of them did.

Caitlyn's eyes closed when her head fell into the crook of Devin's neck. She kept her face their, breathing in his cologne as her heart rate slowly started to calm down. When she pulled away, one of her hands that were wrapped around Devin moved to push some hair off of his forehead.

"I'm so happy you okay." She breathed out and after wiping some hair and blood off of Devin's forehead, Caitlyn kept her hand on his cheek.

Devin could've sworn his heart just about leapt out of his chest at the action. He didn't want to move, too scared Caitlyn would move her hand. "Yeah, yeah." He breathed out, his head instinctively moving into Caitlyn's touch.

As Devin stared up at Caitlyn, his eyes caught Frankie standing behind her, her eyes filled with tears as she stared at where the monster once was.

"Frankie? You okay?" Devin asked, his eyebrows furrowing as he watched her struggle to catch her breath.

Caitlyn looked back at Frankie just as the girl let out a shaky breath, a tear running down her face. Frankie slowly looked down to Caitlyn and Devon and she had to hold back crying seeing them covered in the monsters blood.

"It was Trey."
