Chapter 15 Moan?

I reached to the location Hoseok had sent me. It was 11:30 PM. Jungkook's house looked modern and classic. I got out of the car and made my way to the main door.

I rang the doorbell and drummed my fingers against my thigh while waiting for someone to open the door.

After a few seconds, the door opened revealing a middle-aged man. He looked at me in confusion, his brows frowning slightly.

"Who are you?" he asked, his voice deep and sweet just like Jungkook's.

I assumed he was Jungkook's father and bowed at him. " Good evening, sir. Can I talk to Mr Jeon? We were working on a case together and it's urgent." I tried to sound as calm as possible but I knew I was anything but calm.

Before he can respond to me, another head popped out of the door frame. A woman around his age looked at me with curiosity. She was beautiful. In fact both of his parents were.

She playfully scolded and slapped Mr Jeon's arms. "Why did you make her stand outside for so long?"

She turned to me with a bright smile and took my hand in hers, gently leading me into the house.

"Hi, dear. I'm Jungkook's mom."

I bowed to her as well, feeling awkward about the whole situation for some reason.

"You're beautiful!" she exclaimed. "Perfect for my son."

I widened my eyes and I almost choked on my own saliva. I opened my mouth to clarify that I was just a colleague but was interrupted by a voice.

"Miss Jung?"

I swear that voice could make me weak on my knees. I turned around and noticed Jungkook with an apple in his hands, coming down the stairs. His hair was messy. Calling him hot would be an understatement.

He took a bite of his apple, flexing his perfect jawline. I was too distracted that I forgot the purpose I was here for.

Focus, Haerin.

He looked worried. "What made you come here?"

I snapped back to reality and answered. "I have a new suspect."

His entire expression shifted and his eyes widened. He quickly descended the last few stairs.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

My response was interrupted by Mrs Jeon. "Jungkook, why don't you take her to your room and discuss it there?"

Jungkook gave a small nod and turned to me. "Follow me."

I gulped nervously. Alone. In Jungkook's room. With my long-time crush.

Every step I took made my heart beat faster. I peeked back at their parents, who had bright teasing smiles on their faces. I seriously had to clarify to them that there was nothing going on between us. Not that I hated their assumptions.

I gathered myself to focus on what was important for now.

I stepped into his room and it definitely screamed 'Jungkook' in many ways. It wasn't messy, which could disgust me nor was it too tidy that would irritate the hell out of me. And then I had the dangerous thought of dropping on his mattress and smelling his scent—obviously I didn't.

Jungkook led me to the balcony attached to his room. I sat down and he took the chair across me.

He leaned back and brushed his hair back. God! Those hands. I wish he could chok—no Haerin! No sinful thoughts right now. Focus.

Before any other ridiculous thought could consume me, Jungkook spoke.

"Miss Jung, I'm sorry if my parents made you uncomfortable. They always get hyped up when they see a beautiful lady near me."

I smirked. "So, you find me beautiful?"

He looked at me with a poker face, not in a mood to mess around. "Who's the suspect?"

I rolled my eyes. Typical Jungkook.

"Well, when you dropped me at the office last night, I realized I left my car keys in my room. So, I had to go back but when I got there, someone was inside Jimin's office."

Jungkook leaned forwards, intrigued by the revelation.

I continued, "I went inside, and it was—"

"Wait," he cut me off. "You barged into the room? Miss Jung, not even scared for your life?"

I shrugged. "Save that for later. Now listen."

I took a deep breath and revealed the person's name.

"It was Yeonjun."

I had expected him to throw his chair back and ask me to repeat myself but instead, he just stared at me, waiting for me to continue.

I sighed. "Oh, right. You don't even know him. He's the son of Mr. Choi, our CEO."

Jungkook nodded in acknowledgment.

I pressed on, "He was searching for a file. He said it was about a confidential project which Jimin and he were working on but I highly doubt it's just that. It has to be something more."

"What do you think it could be?" He asked in his deep voice.

"I think Jimin knew something he shouldn't have—something dangerous. And that knowledge led to his death."

Jungkook nodded, understanding what I was intending to say. Heavy silence surrounded us until Jungkook broke it.

"We need to get that file."

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. "And how exactly are we supposed to get our hands on it, Mr. Jeon?"

He replied without missing a beat. "We go to the office and find the file."

I let out a sarcastic chuckle. "Oh, really? What's the plan? We just walk in and ask Yeonjun, 'Excuse me, could you please hand over the suspicious file that could get you arrested'?"

Jungkook cut me off. " Obviously not. We're going to sneak into his room."

I widened my eyes and looked at him in disbelief. "Mr. Jeon, you're kidding, right?"

"No, I'm not."

I shook my head. "I could lose my job if we get caught!"

"That's only if we get caught. And trust me, we won't." He tried to reassure me which surely didn't a bit.

I still wasn't convinced. "It's too risky."

Jungkook sighed, irritation evident on his face. "Listen, Miss Jung. Your life is in danger too. Yeonjun isn't stupid. He would know that you suspect him after last night's incident."

Oh shit! I haven't considered that until now.

He continued, "We don't have any other option. If we need that file, we barge in."

I was still hesitant. " You are a detective right? Can't you, like, use your authority to get our hands on the file?"

Jungkook chuckled, shaking his head. "Rich people don't get caught so easily, Miss Jung. If Yeonjun donates even one percent of his property, he would be free. For justice, I need to handle this case personally."

I sighed, realising how dangerous this could be for both of us. " You know right? That you are risking your job?"

Jungkook looked taken back but nevertheless, he nodded his head. " I do know, Miss Jung. But for the first time in my career, I feel like the answers to this case is much more important than my job."

I stared at him, concerned for him as well as myself. "So, when are we going?"

Jungkook stood up suddenly. "Now."

I gasped. "What do you mean now? We are not ready. We need to camouflage ourselves. We need to hack the cameras. We need to—

I started ranting, trying my best to prove him that it was a bad idea, but Jungkook suddenly held my shoulders tightly and shook me gently, making me shut my mouth in an instant.

His voice was calm but firm. "Miss Jung, can you stop for a second and listen to me?"

My brain shut down. I didn't know if I should panic about the mission or blush over the physical touch.

"There are high chances that he could destroy the file." he continued. "He wouldn't let the file exist for too long if it has something dangerous."

I tried to focus on whatever Jungkook was saying. Yes, I was focusing on the mission, not his stupidly attractive face.

We suddenly heard the door of the balcony sliding.

Jungkook's eyes shifted to the little girl who came into the balcony, interrupting my time with Jungkook. I assumed she was the niece he mentioned in the cafe that day.

His serious eyes suddenly softened on seeing her. "Hey, Ari, why aren't you asleep yet?"

She didn't pay a heed to his question and looked at me with a shy smile. I bent down and pinched her cheeks. "Hey, lovely. You have such a beautiful name."

She giggled cutely before looking at Jungkook, "Grandmother asked you to take some fruits for this pretty lady."

My heart melted at her words.

Jungkook chuckled. "We don't have time for that, Ari."

Who said that? I had all the time when it came to food but too bad I couldn't speak up for myself.

After what felt like a long battle with Mrs Jeon, I was given a box full of cut fruits. I was glad because I was craving for some.

On my way out, I met Jungkook's brother and sister in law, who were as warm as his parents. Honestly, the whole family was sweet.

I was about to step out but was held back by Mrs Jeon. She looked at me with a soft expression. "If you are single, please give my son a chance. I swear I have raised him to be a gentleman."

I was completely off guard by the unusual request. I nodded my head with a smile, not promising anything yet because I myself wasn't sure if we both would be in contact after this case.

The ride to the Nova agency was silent with me driving the car and Jungkook munching on the cut fruits which were meant for me. I glanced at Jungkook, uncertain about this mission. He looked back at me.

"We can do it, Miss Jung. We just have to get in, find the file and bring it out safely."

I nodded while gripping the steering wheel tightly.

I parked the car away from the building to ensure that the surrounding cameras didn't capture us. Jungkook pulled out his phone from his pocket and started calling someone.

The person on the other line picked up almost a second later.

"Hey, Taehyung. Don't ask me why, when, or where. Just disable all the cameras at Nova Agency for the next hour." Jungkook said.

Without waiting for a reply Jungkook cut the call, not bothered if Taehyung even understood a word he said.

I blinked. "Don't you think we should wait for Mr Kim to confirm before we jump right in?"

Jungkook turned to me. "Miss Jung, we have done this a number of times. Don't worry, he will do it."

Then without hesitation, he slipped out of the car, ever ready for this. I badly wanted to inquire what he meant by 'done a number of times' but then again, it wasn't really the right time for it.

I sighed and got out of the car, following him. Though the night air was cool, my hands were sweating. We reached the main entrance of the building.

As we passed by the lounge, we came across a few staff and employees, but they didn't find anything unusual about us being there.

Reasons?

One, I was an employee here and it was common for your friend to tag along. And the second reason could be that they were too tired and sleepy to bother about who was coming and going out of the office.

Jungkook and I were silent through the elevator ride. When we reached the HR department, I wasn't surprised to see it dark. It was the same as last night—dark and creepy.

I knew Yeonjun's office well as I visited it a few times. I led Jungkook towards his office. When we reached his office, I hesitated. My hands were resting on the door knob, unsure if it was worth risking my job.

Jungkook leaned near my ear and whispered. "Just do it."

I pushed open the door after taking a long breath and to my surprise, the door was unlocked.

The office was pitch black. I was about to turn on the lights but stopped when Jungkook spoke.

"Don't turn on the lights."

I nodded and watched Jungkook pull out his phone and switch on the flashlight. I did the same with my phone.

Jungkook pointed at the shelf on my right. "You search there while I search here." he said, motioning to the right side of the room.

I nodded again and started doing what I was told to.

For the next few minutes, we were silent while searching for it. I flipped through every paper, every shelf and every drawer. As the minutes were ticking, I sensed myself panicking.

Then Jungkook broke the silence. "By the way, what color is the file? Or what's written on it?"

I froze and turned to him immediately. "What were you even looking for this whole time, then?

He shrugged, completely cool about it.

I sighed, trying my best to not show my frustration. "It's a blue-colored file. There's nothing much written on it. Maybe just 'nova agency'. He nodded and continued his search.

No matter how long we looked for it, we didn't find it.

After what felt like hours though it was probably just a few minutes, we threw ourselves on the chairs, exhausted and irritated. I was rubbing my temple with my fingers while Jungkook was looking around the office, searching for any possible spot we missed.

"Miss Jung, do you think the file could be in Mr. Choi's office?" Jungkook proposed.

I widened my eyes in disbelief. "I don't care anymore. I am not going into that room."

Jungkook sighed. "I'm sure the file must be there."

I shook my head and forced an awkward smile. "Or maybe they took it home? Yeah, maybe the file isn't even in the office anymore."

"Miss Jung, justice for Jimin or your job?"

"Both."

He gave me an unimpressed look. "Fine. I'll go there alone. You can leave."

He didn't wait for my reply and started leaving the room.

My eyes widened. "You don't even know where his office is!"

Jungkook paused and turned over his shoulder. "I'm literate enough to read the navigation boards and find my way."

And then he walked out. I rolled my eyes. This man. He knew I would follow him anyway and...I did. There was no other option.

Once we reached, Jungkook twisted the handle of the door but...it was locked. He groaned in annoyance. He looked around for something until his gaze landed on me.

Without a warning, he reached out to my hair and pulled out a hair pin with great ease. God! His touch was so delicate. My mind drifted to my usual ridiculous daydreams where Jungkook would braid my hair and—

"Miss Jung!"

I snapped back to reality and blinked rapidly. Jungkook stood there with his arms crossed.

"I've called you three times," he said, raising a brow. "Are you okay?"

I stuttered. "Y-yes! I'm completely fine, Mr. Jeon!"

Jungkook looked at me suspiciously but let it slip. He turned back to work on his criminal-like skills and picked the lock within seconds.

I was amazed at how easily he unlocked the door with a basic hair pin. I followed him inside the room and closed the door behind me.

We began searching the room. It would be a lie if I said that I wasn't scared. Of Course I would be when I was literally risking my entire career. If we get caught I would be jobless and for Jungkook...he could easily manipulate people to believe that he was here just to catch me red handed.

"Ah, finally!" Jungkook suddenly exclaimed.

He retrieved a file from the drawer of the desk. He held it up and showed it to me.

"This is it, right?"

I nodded eagerly, a wide smile making its way on my face. But before we can celebrate, we heard footsteps outside the room. Our eyes widened in unison.

It's over. Everything is over. I am done. I am jobless. I am homeless. I am—

Before my mind could come up with much more worse scenarios, Jungkook pulled me down under the desk.

It was so tiny there. My body was practically pressed against his, glued together. My legs were on the either side of him, straddling him in a way which could only be called 'intimate'.

I felt goosebumps rise over my skin when his breath hit my neck. His scent was so intoxicating that I could drink up the whole bottle of his cologne if it meant I could smell him forever.

Jungkook whispered but I felt the vibration of his voice.

"Miss Jung, focus. Why do you keep getting lost in your thoughts?"

Before I could snap at him for pulling me in such a position without a warning, I heard the door of the room open.

I froze.

I heard Mr Choi's voice filling the room. "Yeonjun, I didn't know you were this much of an idiot."

I felt Jungkook stiffen beneath me.

"I asked you to bring the file home, but you decided keeping it in my office was the best idea? I'm done with you! Where did you even keep them?... Drawer?"

I heard his footsteps approaching near us.

Each click of his shoes on the floor was like a ticking bomb, ready to explode.

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

I swear I was about to pass out from fear and panic.

Jungkook leaned into my ear and whispered,

"Moan."

To be continued...
