Chapter 19 ~ Both

Shu's POV

It had been two hours since my discovery of my long-lost family.

It was like an old spark had been reignited, a spark that casted out of the loneliness I had felt over the past few years. The cloud of isolation that always erupted around me whenever I visited Valt or Xander. The smell and feeling of home had returned.

Even though this reunion had made me feel like I had found something I had lost long ago, it couldn't diminish the excitement for visiting Earth. I kept in mind that in just a day I would meet (y/n). I haven't told my parents about (y/n), but they seemed to have gotten the hint. I wonder if Ashtem had told them.

I watched calmly as the aircraft took off, zooming high into the clouds above the beautiful Mexican forest that was alive with animals. Birds and macaws seemed particularly curious about the aircraft, but the aircraft continued surging through the sky. One certain bird seemed to be follow the plane, a blue macaw with brown eyes and deep ocean feathers that stuck up. He reminded me of a particular friend of mine. Guilt panged in my chest as I realized I was leaving all my friends, my beyblade career, and my old life just for (y/n). Incredible.

People in love always do crazy things, I guess.

Valt, I thought as we left the Mexican forest behind. It was so small and far away that it looked like just a clump of trees in this huge world. I promise I'll come back to you.

'Shu Kurenai,' the intercom crackled with the voice of Ashtem. 'Report to HQ immediately.'

'I will,' I nodded, turning away from the window. But it felt like I was turning away from my old life.

Your POV

I hung out in the bathroom for the rest of the day. I would've suicide, but the only thing keeping me alive was that suicide is a sin. Exhaling in frustration, I checked my watch. Three minutes and thirty-five seconds until the day finished. That wasn't too bad.

Nobody in the whole school had bothered to come and look for me. Even if anyone did, Ashley probably would've stopped them with her power. Lots of people came into the toilets, though. Even Ashley, Chanel and Harper to reapply their makeup. No one went into my stall. Probably because I put a big sign saying 'Out of Order' in the front. Smart, right?

The bell rang, echoing throughout the whole school. Immediately the quiet atmosphere is interrupted by loud, noisy students talking, banging on their locker and complaining loudly about school. Typical. I sighed in relief, my hand ready to open the bathroom door. I had been sitting on the floor with my phone for seven hours. Just as I was getting ready to open it, I heard synchronized footsteps marching in. Leaning down, I saw three pairs of black platform heels. That only meant one thing.

Ashley, Chanel and Harper.

But something was different. There wasn't any gossiping or talking shit about other people or spilling tea or complaining or even discussing prices for their buys and what they wanted. Instead, it was just plain silence. All of their meetings in the bathroom had been like this. They came in, applied makeup in awkward silence and left. Chanel and Harper always sat far away from Ashley. It was as if they had a huge fight but pretended they didn't. I wondered if this had to do with Ashley and I's fight.

'Okay, I'll bite,' Chanel's voice echoed throughout the bathroom. By now all the students had left, so her voice rang out clearly. I could almost see Ashley raising her eyebrows, placing her lipstick down, and turning towards Chanel. 'Why did you lie to us? About your wealth and everything?'

'Chanel, I can't believe how clueless you are,' Ashley rolled her eyes, obviously making no attempt to reconcile with Chanel. 'Even pathetic (y/n) figured it out by herself. I lied because even though we were good friends, I know I would be kicked out of the Elite Squad because of my wealth. Hannah Mitchell was.'

I grimaced. I vaguely remembered those times. It was so long ago I had almost completely forgotten.

'I was going to tell you, eventually,' continued Ashley. 'I trusted that you wouldn't kick me out. But then I got promoted to an even higher class, the Elite Squad that only ten other people were a part of. And then (y/n) found out and things got complicated. So I decided to make sure my secret stayed a secret. First of all, I had to make (y/n) fear me so she wouldn't tell anyone. Obviously that backfired as she told everyone to get revenge on me. And now that that's happened I'm already getting kicked out. Nobody will even talk to me!'

'Well maybe that's because you've been using everyone!' Chanel shouted. I hoped the teachers hadn't heard that. 'You've used me, Layla and Harper to get to the top spot and steal my crown! I realized that I was using (y/n) too, so after this I plan to find her and apologize!'

'Why?' sneered Ashley. 'She probably won't accept your apology anyway.'

'But I have to try!' snapped Chanel, anger and determination resonating from her voice. If I was Harper, who was stuck in the middle of this feud, I would be scared. But knowing her, she's probably recording this to post on SnapChat. 'I-I've wronged (y/n)! So have you! And Layla! We've all bullied and betrayed her for this whole year. And the worst part is that she knew! She knew about everything because she's the smartest in our whole year level even though she's the youngest, but she knew! Yet she still tried her best to be friends with us! If I was her, I would've let out a full-on war! And (y/n) has done nothing to you. You didn't have to bully her so that she wouldn't say anything. She would've kept your secret and taken it to the grave. And it wasn't her fault Jack liked her. I know for a fact she didn't like him back, instead she likes some other guy named Shu. So even if you and Layla won't apologize, I will.'

A long, lengthy silence filled the room after that. I could only imagine Ashley standing there at a loss for words. Touching my cheeks,  and feeling the all-too familiar salty water, I realized I had been crying at those words. After all, I could never stay mad at someone too long. I would always forgive them. Footsteps shortly followed, and I realized Chanel and Harper had left the room, leaving Ashley astounded.

Shu's POV

As I walked into HQ, I realized that a weird orange glow was softly tinting the control room. My eyes traced down the source, which was from the sphere. It was radiating a bright, unnatural orange. Frowning, I walked up to my parents who were currently sitting on either side of Ashtem, controlling thousands of buttons and speaking into walky-talkies.

'Mother?' I approached the three. 'Father? Why is the sphere glowing bright orange?'

'We aren't sure, sweetie,' Mother replied while furiously hitting a red button. 'Dr. Tarver thinks it is to do with (y/n)'s emotions, as she is the one we are tracking down. If we are right, orange would mean confusion.'

'I wonder why,' I pondered. 'The whole crew should watch the latest episode of IREL tonight.'

'Yes, they should,' agreed Ashtem, even though I wasn't talking to him. 'That is the whole point of IREL anyways. To learn about human life on Earth. It may be a little inappropriate at times, but the main goal is for the greater good.'

'I agree completely,' nodded Mother. 'It's just so hard to believe that someone like (y/n) has suffered so much. I hope not all human's lives are like this.'

I nodded in agreement. It seemed absurd that so many people on Earth intended to hurt others, emotionally and physically. It made anime life seem so easy.

Your POV

'ARGHHH!'

Throwing my pillow across my room, I let out a torrent of pain and emotions. The pillow hit the wall with a 'thud' before falling onto the silk carpet. Letting out a sharp huff, I collapsed on my bed and buried my face into one of my other pillow.

'Sweetie?' Mother's voice rang out from downstairs. 'Are you okay?'

'I'm fine!' I answered loudly, sugar-coating it. 'Just homework stress!'

Sadly, Mother did not return to her daily activities in satisfaction like I had hoped she would. Instead, she presented another inevitable problem.

'Well if it helps you, darling Chanel is here!' squealed Mother, clasping her hands together. I could picture her pulling the Asian into a tight hug. Oh, how my Mother adored the little perfect Chanel. Just like every adult did. If only they found out about the truth. But right now, I didn't want to talk to anybody.

Especially not my former best friend.

'Can you tell her that I don't need her help!' I shouted back. 'I'm fine!'

'But-'

'I'm fine!'

Slamming my door and locking it tight, I made sure nobody could get in. I could here Mother tutting in disapproval of my behavior towards the Darlington's daughter. After a few minutes I hear the front door close, and the tanned Queen Bee walked out from our gardens to her house. Her dark hair blew in the wind, so her face and emotion was unreadable. Exhaling slowly, I slid down into the depths of my comfy quilt. Oh, how I wanted to stay like this forever. Hiding from all of the world's problems. But that was not to be.

After all, the social is right around the corner.

Tomorrow, to be exact.

Last year, I didn't picture the day before my first social to be like this. It mainly involved Chanel, Layla and I discussing outfits (not slutty ones) and hyping each other up. It also involved plans of how to get boys and excitement. Definitely not lying down on the bed after most of my friends betrayed me, one boy that actually liked me also betraying me, Ashley absolutely hating my guts and ruining my life and Jordan cheating on Blair with me.

Totally exciting.

Shu's POV

'What? What do you mean you wont upload it?'

Ashtem's furious voice boomed loudly throughout the dining room. We were all in space already, and was about to have our first dinner. Thousands of delicious smells wafted through our nostrils, making our mouths water with hunger. A wide variety and range of foods, sweet and savory, were heaped in piles on the large, white, banquet table. The dining tables had been removed and were replaced by tonnes of comfy cushions, ready for a comfortable movie night where we would be binge-watching the IREL series. The lights had been dimmed, and I only recognized Ashtem from his voice. Father, who was beside me, immediately frowned. She crossed over to the Snake Pit leader who, after a stream of cursing, had slammed his phone down.

'Theodore,' began Father. 'What on Shinwa was all of that about?'

'Those damn episode uploaders,' grumbled Ashtem, crossing his arms. 'They won't upload the latest episode, which tells us about (y/n)'s confusion.'

Father's frown grew deeper and was mirrored onto Mother and I. Together, we walked towards him.

'Why not?' I asked curiously. 'What could possibly be wrong with the latest episode?'

'It can't be that bad,' soothed Mother, patting Ashtem on the back. 'Can it?'

'Yes it can!' screamed Ashtem. 'This is the episode before we land! The sphere is tracking down (y/n), and we need to know what kind of hostile environment we are in before we land there. We also need to know about (y/n) herself.'

'I thought the uploaders knew about our goal,' pondered Father in bewilderment. Ashtem shook his head.

'It's not that,' said Ashtem. 'They know that very well. It's just in this episode something about beyblade realm was mentioned. Apparently (y/n) has been watching it. And she mentions something about it.'

'So?' I found myself questioning Ashtem. 'What's wrong with that?'

'The uploaders say that people will begin to question us until the truth comes out,' Ashtem answered. 'Then they would find out about our plot. About the beyblade realm being real. The news would eventually find it's way to Valt Aoi, the star of our beyblade show. Then our plot will also be leaked to Earth. Imagine the mass craziness.'

'But aren't we going to be telling Earth about us anyways?' asked Mother.

Ashtem shook his head. 'It isn't that simple. Earth will assume other animes are real, but of course they aren't. And we won't be there to tell them and sort this out. Even though I really would like the episode uploaded, I understand where they are coming from.'

Silence spread across the conversation, total silence in the room. Then the device in my pocket buzzed, and all eyes went to me. A scarlet tint was flushed across myself. 'Excuse me.'

I walked out of the room, and only then did I see the Caller ID.

'Nariko?'

'Yes?' she chirped over the phone. 'Don't sound so surprised, Shu. I would track you down eventually, even if you have bought a new phone. My stalkers skills are, ah, exceptional.'

'Unfortunately,' I grumbled under my breath. 'What do you want?'

'Do I really need an excuse to talk to my honey-boo?' laughed Nariko. 'I just wanted to say hello. Haven't heard from you in a while. And I'm quite bored, really. Everyone at school is without you. IREL haven't even aired their next episode, and it was due an hour ago!'

'Yeah,' I said. 'I've heard.'

'But to be honest, I'm not sure I really like (y/n) anymore,' Nariko admitted. 'She is such a hoe and a slut. And a player. Did you see how she kissed Jordan while she's dating Jack?'

'First of all, she and Jack are not dating,' I found myself defending (y/n). 'And second, Jordan kissed (y/n), not the other way around. Also, she is not a hoe and a slut. It's just Ashley, Harper and Chanel making her seem that way!'

There was silence on the other side of the phone. Then, the sound of cars beeping and the city bustling could be heard. 'Are you talking on your phone while crossing the road?'

'What? No!' giggled Nariko. 'Silly Shu, I'm riding a bike while talking with you! Although it's a red light now.'

'But won't you fall?' I asked, though I wasn't really concerned for the 'I love Shu Society' president anyway.

'I won't,' replied Nariko confidently. 'Oh look, it's green again! See, I'm just fine- AH!'

A shrill shriek pierced my ears so loudly that I scurried off to my room for more privacy. 'Nariko?'

Dead silence. Then the sound of ambulances and honking.

'Nariko?'

'Hello?'

Someone picked up the phone, but it wasn't Nariko's annoying voice. It was the deep voice of a grown man, ready to interrogate. 'What happened with Nariko?'

'I'm afraid your little friend is, uh,' I could hear the person grimace. 'Dead.'
