Chapter 5 ~ Earth

the school ^^^ (ignore the gardens, they aren't the real thing), but yes the school is near the beach.

Your POV

'Good morning Mother and Father,' I called out as I walked slowly down the marble staircase, and into the Grand Hall. Sleek, white, concrete walls went up higher than the ceiling usually should be, reaching to about two stories in height.

Flowers, plants and succulents were hung across the Grand Hall in a colour coordination of nice, cool colours, making the Grand Hall even more grander and modern.

Father was positioned at the head of the table, Mother sitting directly opposite him on the elegant, white-washed table that could fit around twenty four people, even though there was only four people in our family.

Across the walls more modern art and sculptures were featured and a large, stained window bearing the family emblem completed the scenery as a backdrop behind everything. A long, plush, velvet couch stretched across the whole length of the only window in the room, but it took up the whole wall.

I hurriedly brushed my hair, leaving it flowing down, but tying a chunk at the front in a simple waterfall braid.

'Good morning (y/n),' both Mother and Father greeted me in unison. 'Blair's here as well, remember.'

'Great,' I muttered sarcastically. I smoothed out the grey school dress with a light purple checker pattern that fell just above my knee. A lilac blazer with my school's emblem was worn over the dress, adding a more fashionable yet snobby look to the uniform, which was completed by a set of black heels over a ankle-length white sock. 'Morning Blair.'

'Morning, (y/n),' Blair glared at me from across the table as I sat down. Her long, dyed brown to blonde ombrè hair cascaded down her back and she donned an expensive two piece set which consisted of summer shorts with a pale blue gingham print and a matching strapless crop top. 'Oh. You're still in school, huh? Too bad for you. Jordy and I are going down to Marley beach today, you know, to get that hot tan.'

Jordy, was Blair's celebrity boyfriend, but his real name is Jordan. They met at the fashion Met Gala three months ago and started dating almost immediately. Ever since then they've recorded a few tracks together like Meant Together and This is Forever (those tracks seem cringy, and they very much are).

Personally, I think Jordan is quite nice and funny, and that he doesn't deserve to be with Blair. I don't get what he sees in that plastic woman who dropped out of school when she was only fifteen.

'Good for you,' I replied, helping myself to a pile of waffles and sausages. 'Any important news today, Father?'

As soon as those words left my mouth the ringtone of Father's phone echoed throughout the mansion. He picked it up frowning, before suddenly stand up, waving at the rest of us and dashing off to the front porch.

'Sorry, (y/n) darling, your Father is very busy today,' Mother stepped in. 'Even though it's only seven thirty in the morning, it's one thirty over in Russia and apparently an astronaut went missing on a very important mission. As you know, CSIRO and the Russian's RRSC have been working together on an extremely complicated topic to do with space.

'And as you know, space is one of the departments your Father is in charge of, so it falls into his lap. I'm not in the space department as I work with technologies and healthcare, so I have no idea what they're working on. All I know is that a Russian man by the name of Georgi Dobrovolski, 28, has gone missing near the new founded Basuto constellation, near the Andromeda galaxy.'

'Oh, I said quietly, realization dawning on me. 'That means Father has to go to Russia.'

'Yes, it does,' Mother smiled. 'I'm glad you picked that up quickly. Blair, I thought you were supposed to have graduated from college?'

'I don't need education,' Blair shrugged. 'For complicated stuff I'll just use the internet.' Blair picked up a straw hand bag and a straw hat, putting on a pair of Dior sunglasses. 'Anyways, I gotta go. Bye, Felicia!'

She strutted out of the Grand Hall, lifting up one hand, lazily waving to us as she headed towards the red sports car that had just pulled up in the front gardens, Jordan grinned at the sight of her, and winked at Mother and me. I rolled my eyes.

'Mother, I'm going to go to school now. I can't bear all of this stupidity coming from celebrities,' I huffed, putting my own straw hat with a checkered lilac and white print on my head, slinging a plain white backpack with the school emblem on there on my back. 'Tell Roger that he doesn't need to walk me in to school.'

'But darling, you're only thirteen,' frowned Mother. 'I doubt you could even cross the road, listening to all that music.'

'I'm sixteen, Mother,' I glared at her. 'And I like listening to music! Please, everyone else can even catch public transport.'

'Does James Darlington's and Damian Carter's daughter use this method?' asked Mother fiercely, wondering about our two neighbors.

'They're names are Chanel and Layla,' I said tiredly. 'And no, they do not use public transport, but they can still walk themselves into school.'

'Alright,' sighed Mother. 'How about this; a compromise. Roger will walk you to the school gates, and then you can go to home-class by yourself.'

I nodded, happy with this deal before scurrying towards a tall man in his fifties with balding grey hair and warm brown eyes, wearing a black suit and carrying a white towel, lingering near the staircase. 'Hello Roger.'

'Hello Miss (y/n),' smiled Roger, my personal butler. 'I heard about the compromise. Good on you, standing up to (m/n). She and (f/n) really shouldn't underestimate your abilities. I'd say that you're smarter than Miss Blair.'

'But isn't that obvious, Roger?' I grinned towards kind man, before he grinned right back at me

We stepped outside to the warm summer morning, a breeze floating through as a sleek, elegant blue car pulled up, the black tires crunching on the lose pebbles in the circular driveway.

In the circle formed by the driveway a magnificent marble water fountain towered all of us, our family standing at the top of it.The outer gardens were lined with many blooms and fruit, as well as the occasional succulent.

Potted greens stood at the front of the gardens as well as a white, carved fence, blocking the other equally beautiful mansions aside. I looked across the street to admire the view of Sydney's buildings and harbors (we are on a hill after all) when a flutter raven black hair and a matching uniform I wore caught my eye.

'Hi Chanel!' I waved enthusiastically.

The girl with luscious black waves, piercing emerald eyes and smooth tan skin glanced up and smiled, not bothering to return the energetic wave. Something about her smiles always seemed off.

She never showed any teeth when smiling and it always looked awfully fake, secretly said that Chanel had better things to do. A black Tesla pulled up in her front garden, almost identical to mine except instead of a fountain she had a large, green tree with specks of gold.

The Darlingtons were one of the most known family in town, always invited to important parties. That's how Chanel and I met. At a party hosted by the Prime Minister himself.

Chanel's an only child because her parents constantly travel overseas as her mother was a world-renowned model and her father was a world-wide designer, which is obviously where she got her beauty and taste for fashion and trends.

They own numerous fashion companies, even Chanel, which became their daughter's name because she was 'elegant and expensive', according to her mother, just like the brand. Her parents had been in Paris for a month and two weeks now, but Chanel was used to it.

But being left alone in Australia meant she had access the her parent's money and credit cards. All of it. But I bet the Darlingtons wouldn't even realize if even a million dollars went missing. They are millionaires after all. Everyone on Aureum Hills were millionaires, some even billionaires.

I wish my parents would trust me to live by myself, I thought wistfully. We even have maids and butlers to help me! But no, I'm still Mummy and Daddy's little girl. I'm more mature than Blair and she gets to travel all over the world, even allowed to sleep with a boy she met three months ago! The least they could do would let me walk to school by myself...or even be trusted with some money. The second I get ahold of even fifty cents, it's ripped out of my hands for 'safe keeping'. Fuck that shit. I'm not fucking three years old!

'(y/n), they'll come to understand your maturity soon,' Roger smiled, looking down at me. I tried not to look nervous as he had guessed exactly what I was thinking about. But honestly, I guess it wasn't too hard. Every time Chanel and I would see each outside of our mansions in all its' splendor, I would think about this. But still. How can Roger guess exactly what I'm thinking? Can he read my mind? 'No, I can not read your mind Miss (y/n).'

I looked up at him in awe, mouth agape. He gave a twinkling smile and opened the door for me. I fumbled towards the furthest seat away from me in the back, Roger seating up in front with a chauffeur.

'Ready to go?' the chauffeur said gruffly. I nodded and soon we were whipping by the mountain plains and the pristine mansions. Even though this was the hills, Aureum Hills had no farmers of animals living on it. There was barely any sight of nature. Even grass had been replaced by fake grass. Artificial waterfalls ran through the plains, every part of the hills dotted with chemicals to enhance the beauty of nature, when really, it was already perfect.

Carter.

I traced the beautiful, silver calligraphy laced into the black cushioning in the car's arm rests. A vivid image of a blonde girl with sparkling brown eyes floated into mind.

Layla.

Layla Carter had been my best friend ever since kindergarten. We had been in the same year from reception to Year 8. We were like polar opposites, but she would be the one who understands me and tell me all of her secrets. She, Chanel and I were the main three in the group, even if those two were more leaders than me.

Still, if we had to split into pairs she always picks me over Chanel, even though most people wouldn't. Honestly, Layla actually was more of a follower than a leader, she often chooses the option which most people picked, but she likes to have charge of the situation. Obviously, she's very bipolar.

Layla lived in the same street as me and Chanel, except she was more to the eastern side so I rarely saw her. Her parents own an expensive car factory called Carter. All of their designs were sleek, elegant and modern, just like this car.

We have at least three cars from Carter, but we usually get discounts since our families were close friends. Mother even helped Damian Carter, Layla's dad, to manufacture his latest model, the Carter Auxiliam, the very car I was sitting in right now.

'Alright, (y/n),' Roger interrupted my thoughts. 'We're here.'

I glanced up from my spot. 'Don't you need to walk me in, though?'

However, Roger winked, lifting a finger up to his lips. My face broke into a huge grin. 'Thank you.'

I opened the door and ignored the gaping stares I received from all directions. After all, Carters were extremely expensive and if you owned one you were practically considered royalty. I hurriedly rushed into the ivory gates.

A towering water fountain immediately took my attention, almost reaching to two stories tall, plonked smack bang in the middle of a pool that split off into two streams that ran sideways, cutting through the grass plains were plenty students were sitting until it reached the natural waterfall where a couple of Year 1s were playing hopscotch on the wet and mossy stones.

The two circular grass plains had a wooden bench cutting it off from the stone walkways. Both of the plains had grassy steps, only the side of the steps showing stone. The steps went inwards until a great big stone circle with the streams interrupted the large steps that many high school students were sitting on.

Over on the right, were there wasn't a water fall, the stream traveled beside a white staircase until the creek next to the school. The white staircase leveled out into a porch where many students were heading towards the library there. The front gardens were definitely impressive, modern and sleek yet a touch of nature still coming through. But the building stole all the attention once you glanced at it.

It wasn't a castle, no, but it sure looked like it was. The white, leveled staircase smoothly lead up to a circular pathway if you turned left. Inside was another splendid water fountain, and the front of the staircase was specifically designed to be lower to show off the water fountain.

Four pillars held up the main balcony where the Principle of the school, Mrs Caprit, had her office and her own balcony, where she made many announcements. The office and balcony poked out of the main concrete building with many glass panes, taking over the second and third floor. Underneath that were more classrooms, lockers, four labs and the library.

On top of that was a helicopter pad and solar energy panes, and five more view platforms. To the right was also a pathway that came out of the library and lead to a bench overviewing the creek, the front of a long white and glassed building known as the Externus Tunnel, away from the main building, the Pelagus House.

I could go into more detail of all it's splendor, but that would be a waste of time to describe everything this land had, this land that was called our school. Also called Pretiosa Manor. Instead of bothering to look at the sparkling creek, I tilted my head up to see the purple Fleur De Lis.

The symbol of my school.

Claritate Private College.
