Chapter 1

I always wanted to write a historical story but never did it because I don't know how the readers would feel about it. But today I choose to publish my first historical fanfiction using Arthit and Kongpob as the main characters :) Don't judge the story too much :D

Hope  some of you'll still like the fanfiction.

********************************************

The kingdom of burma, setting on the year 1778. The sun just raised on the east, shining its light on the earth to lighten the darkness covering the land. Beyond the loud market, there was the biggest building in the middle of the capital. Inside the mansion there was a young man who was bored with his everyday life. He wanted a change, something to trigger his adrenalin. Today he tried something new: Escape the building, more like the noisy people to live a normal life for at least one day.

The young man stood in front of the big gate. The high wall in front of him was the only thing preventing him from the freedom he seeked for such a long time. Soon he would be free, even if it meant for just a short period of time. He took a deep breath, exhaled it before climbing at the hindrance between him and the outside world. It was unsteady on the top of the wall so he immediately sat down to not fall down. His destination was some meters away from him, calling him to test the air of freedom. He looked around in the mansion to see if anyone noticed him on top of the wall but nobody was in the proximity.

Here was the less guarded area of the building, that was why he choose this spot as his escape route from the prison behind him. He jumped down, landed on the soft ground of the street.

It was the first time he broke the rule and left his home without asking for his parents' approval. The reason he didn't ask for their permission was simple. Whenever he asked to leave alone or accompany a maid outside, they would always remind him how scary the humans outside were. They even used excuses like he was too kind for the outside world. He knew they wanted to scare him by lying to him but the fairytales they always told him, didn't hold him back from seeking adventure on his own. He wanted to gather his own experience in the world beyond his bedroom. Beside the people outside can't be so cruel, scary or dangerous like his parents always revealed him.

However the short man was aware of the fact that his parents wanted to protect him by hiding him like a precious baby from the evilness of humanity but he wanted to see the world himself. He would never experience anything if he only hide in his chamber, read stories from his books and learnt from his teachers. So why should he ask for their approval if they would object and lock him away if he asked for permission to leave home? It even felt good to ditch his family and search for some fresh airs.

His toes moved up and down on the soft ground, more like on the sands. Since his birth he only knew how it felt to walk on large carpets covering on the hard ground. He was bothered with his shoes on so he took them off, feeling the sand under his feet. It was funny. It felt like the warm small grains could massage his sore feet.

His feet trampled on the same spot. He liked the way it sounded as his feet touched the sands. It gave him a feeling of freedom. A fresh breeze blowed over him, leaving cold chill running down his spine. He stretched out his arms, let the cold wind touching as if it was flirting with him. The way the wind raised up his airs on his body was tickling, he laughed like a silly boy. So that was the goosebumps his maids always talked about. He never had goosebumps before so it was it was refreshing for him. He wanted more of the feeling he got for the first time. Every worries in his mind faded away.

It felt great to be gently caressed by the wind. The freedom he always wanted, was just within his grips. He needed to find out more about this world but before he set on his journey, he looked at himself. His neck-length black hair were purposely made messy, his bangs were sightly hiding his beautiful captivating eyes. His clothes, a blue pants and a shabby hemd, looked casual enough for him to be mistaken as a servant for a noble family. Like this, nobody would recognize him for who he really was. Great! He was proud of his own disguise.

The young but lively man took his first step forwards. Screams of many mens and womens echoed in the air, the voices came from the big building behind him. He ran away to avoid being seen, or being captured by them again. When he left some distances from the gate, his eyes wandered around on the street. He froze on the spot. The pictures offering to him, made him flabbergasted. His jaws dropped, his eyes widened from surprise. Something like that, he never saw it in his entire 16 years. Not even in his lovely books.

It was a lively town, many people were walking before, behind and beside him, chatting with each other or buying something at the big market. Some of the customers tried to reduce the price with the salesmen. Most of them successed to have the groceries for a cheaper price but some saleswomen refused to reduce the price. The smell of various food, sweet, spicy and sour, raised in his nose. The smells were so nice that it tickled his body, his skin itched to try the various food.

The first thing caughing his attention, was a white round-looking food. He went to the vendor, spoke with her while replying to the bread as ball. The woman eyed him from head to toes, thinking an insane man was in front of her. She ignored him. But as the young man took his wallet out and opened it, her eyes widened from the many money offering to her. There were about 50 golden coins, 10 silver and few bronce coins too.

The sign of Kyat currency even reflected in her eyes. Yes, that fat middle aged lady was a money grubber. She would do anything for money, even lie to an innocent man to take his wealth away. Her lips curved up into a bright grin, making her round face looking more bigger, more fatter than it actually was.

But behind every friendly smile, there was always a whicked thought behind it. She tried to hide a mask behind her thick smile, it was the face of the evil character inside of her. Why should a young man like him have so much while she was struggling to nourish her two kids, her disabled man and herself? She didn't knew where the money came from but it didn't matter to her anyway. The important thing that matter to her was how to steal his money from him.

A single golden Kyat would be enough for her to nourish her entire family for a whole month. Ten golden coins would buy her a small mansion in a quiet town to settle down. She was so greedy, saliva already dropped out of her mouth, she whipped it with a single strike of the back of her hand.

She quickly packed the ten rest of breads in a paper bag, gave it to him then took in return ten golden coins out. So innocent as the short man was, he didn't even realize the salewoman robbed him out. He even thanked her for giving him her last bread as gift. So stupid right? Even knowing he didn't have any knowledge about the value of money, he still choose not to question her if she was honest to him or not.

As soon as he saw the steamed fried noodle on the table of another vendor, he was the one to wipe his saliva this time. He rushed there, showing the vendor his wallet to buy the noodle. The salemsan saw power and wealth as his eyes set upon the money.

The noodle vendor took some of the gold too. He was even greedier than the previous woman because he took few of the silver and bronce coins too. He waved happily after the generous man, thanking him for being so dumb.

Wherever the latter went, he would just open his wallet to let them take their payment as if it was some kind of self-service. Only this time it wasn't about serving yourself your own food but taking much money as you wanted. It was an opportunity for everyone to be wealthy overnight.

This was how the short man spent the whole lunchtime till he didn't have any money left. His pocket was empty but his stomach was filled with many delicious food. He was repleted, he even said it was worth it to spend so much money.

The dishes he ate at home were from quality far better than those from the street but it never tasted so delicious like the commoners food he just had the chance to savour. He was satisfied, happily rubbing on his full stomach.

***************

He walked blindly on the street, without knowing where his feet were bringing him. Suddenly he noticed he was in a city he wasn't familiar with. Actually, all the streets he visited today weren't familiar but he recognized most of the town from his books. However this city wasn't discribed in any of his books. It was an old city, shabby too, the street was dirty and it smelt like rotten eggs. Rats and some other animals were even lurking around the corner. A starving child, maybe in her teens too, laid on the ground, begging for money by pedestrians. There were other people beside her begging for some food too. There were elderly and middle aged woman amoung them.

The young man wanted to give the girl money but he was broke as hell since he was generous enough to give his money away like some friendly monks.

He went to the girl, rummaged in his bag then fished out two breads and gave it to her. Her eyes widened when she saw the breads reaching out to her. The shorter man said to her the breads were cold but she shook her head, stating they were still warm for her. Tears filled her eyes. At first she cried in silence, suddenly she broke out in tears, crying like a baby that was hungry and asked for her mothers' milk.

The kind man was at first taken aback but he smiled as he noticed she wasn't crying because she was tired of life. There were tears of joy. She was happy he gave her something to eat, something to soothe her angry stomach. It was sad to see such a young girl starving, being all alone without any parents left for her. His teachers always told him the people was starving but they didn't tell him how bad the state acutally was.

He caressed at her messy hairs then went aside to the other people, giving them some of his food too. They gratefully bowed to him while thanking him many times. As soon as he left them, two thin dogs approached him, wagging their tails at him. It looked like they were searching for something to eat too.

„Hm, there're animals. They can't eat human food, right?", he thought about it.

After a while, he searched for meat on his bag, gave them each a meat before continuing his way. In the middle of walking of the unknwon street, he realized he still didn't know where he was. He turned around, slightly panicked inside. A sigh escaped his mouth. Whenever he sighed, he would try to calm himself down. His finger reached out in the sky then pointed in a direction, the left side. It was the road he decided to take. Silly to relied on a method he learnt from a book instead of asking people for the road. His carefree personality really reached a new level of stupidity.

A shadow rushed behind him. He felt someone observing him. The eyes of the unknown person were everywhere, watching him in silence but he didn't knew where the shadow was. Who was the mysterious shadow? But somehow he didn't sense any kind of danger coming from the stranger. It was like the person didn't harbour any evil feeling against him. Since the stranger didn't seem dangerous, he just continued his way. A boy bumped against him, he snatched his bag away and ran fast in a direction. He followed him while screaming at him to stay put. They came in a deserted corner, there were nobody other than them.

„I'll give you anything to eat if you give me my bag back", again his naive character took over him. He really thought the boy was after his breads but as he noted the four men surrounding him, he froze on the spot.

The four men were bigger, even taller than him. They wore dark clothes that made them looking like thieves. One of them had a long scar across his cheek. The other one had only one left eye. They seemed to be dangerous thieves, gritting their teeth and roaring like animals. When they approached him, he still thought they wanted his food but didn't want to share it with him.

„You... You can have my bag", he stuttered, fearing the bulky men.

The boy smirked at him, laughing at his silly behaviour for trusting them that they would let him go if he gave them his bag. The shorter man stepped back till his back touched against the man with the scar on his cheek, apparantly the boss of the gang. He immediately turned back to him. The man grabbed at his wrist, blocking him from taking any escape route. Now he was a helpless rat in a trap.

„You have a nice necklace there... Give it to me!", the man asked him. It wasn't a request but an order he shouldn't refuse.

They were talking about the golden necklace shining around his neck, there was a lion crest carving on it, meaning he was from a powerful aristocrate family. But there was one thing they didn't knew about the juwelry: It was his most important possession amoung his belongings. It was giving to him by his father, it represented who he was. If he was ever to lose it, he would lose his title of nobility. Except his parents and the servants who were close to him, nobody else would recognize him for who he was. That was why he never took it off, not even when showering.

„No... No... You can't have it..."

„It's not like I can't have it. I want it and you'll give it to me!", the man roared.

The naive man shook his head, holding firmly at the necklace with his other hand. The thief gripped tighter at his wrist, the strong grip sent sharp pain in his entire body. It hurted like hell, as if his whole body was twisted in a cruel way. He hissed in pain, stepped back and pulled his arm to free himself out of his captivity. His many attempt were futile. How could a thin man like him fight the bull in front of him? Somehow he began to regret leaving his safe house to explore the world. This incident was a lesson he would never forget.

All the sudden a stone hit the man with the scar on the head. The place it hit him bleeded, the blood streamed down on his forehead. He closed his eyes to prevent the blood from flowing in his eyes. Both him and the naive man looked aside, to see who the one throwing stone at them was. The moment they turned aside, another stone came flying towards them. It hit the boss on the nose, he finally let go of the young man to grab at his bleeding nose.

„Sh**", he cursed loud, his voice resounded in the air.

The young man took the chance and stepped back to escape the evil man. Instead of taking refugee somewhere, he still froze there, searching for his saviour. A silhouette stood in the corner, staring at them. The shadow of a building hide his face, more like his whole body. It was hard to see his face clearlier.

„Show yourself, you coward!", the injured man roared.

The stranger came out of his hideout, slowly stepping into the sun. The light shone on his face. It was a young man, maybe in the age of the innocent man. The stranger may be thinner but he was taller than him. His small face, his short black hairs, his thin red lips, everything about him was captivating. Apart from his shabby black clothes, his handsome features could easily let him pass as a royal guard. The naive man even thought he looked more handsome than any royal guards he saw untill now. But there was something disturbing about him. It was the look in his sharp eyes. There was something dangerous reflecting in his eyes, making him look like a black panther. A dangerous animal waiting for the best opportunity to strike at his prey anytime. Even if he was handsome, there still was a mysterious aura surrounding him.

The shorter man eyed him from head to toes. He didn't feel any danger coming from him. It was just like the shadow that observed him just a moment ago. Maybe he was the one watching him?

The man crossed his arms on his chest, looking down on the thieves as if they weren't worth his precious time. His facial expression didn't change for a minute. The serious expression remained on his face, signalising he was someone not to mess with. What the hell should this behaviour toward them be?

So how was the first chapter? Too much or it was alright? Write your opinion in the comments section because I need to know if I should continue the story or just leave it was an one shot ;)
