******************************
There was a big commotion outside, disturbing the calm atmosphere in the air. A man opened the door of the dungeon in the basement, making a loud noises while rushing inside as if he was in a hurry. The man turned out to be Kongpob's handsome shadow, Aim. The handsome shadow was here to take Kongpob out. Today was the day Kongpob had to escape from here and return safely to Siam after killing the highers officials who were planing treason.
The shadow opened his master's cell, letting him the priority to be in the front. Both of them took the stairs up to the entrance of the dungeon.
„What's going on?", Kongpob asked about the loud noises outside.
As soon as they approached the entrance, the prisoners screamed for help, asking Aim and Kongpob to save them to escape from this hell too. Both handsome men from Siam ignored the cry of help, they went outside but had to hide behind a corner since many soldiers were rushing from here and there, screaming to run after someone and catch him tonight or else everyone would loose their head. The maids were searching for the persons too. There were horses on the loose, scattering everywhere. Some shedrows were caught on fire, making the horses more scared. Even though the shedrows were on fire, there wasn't any injured animals or persons. It seemed the person responsible for the fire, took care of the animals to be safe before setting the fire, maybe to cause a chaotic situation. This situation seemed like a Deja-Vu to Kongpob. It seemed like the first time Arthit escaped the palace and caused a big commotion. It can't be the same, right?
„Crown Prince Arthit ran away...", Aim finally answered his master's previous question.
„How did it happen?", he was in a high alert, preparing himself to run after his lover he broke up with just yesterday.
„A few minutes ago he hold a knife on his throat and threatened the guards to cut himself if they don't let him out of the palace. The guards didn't have any choise as to let him escape since they didn't him want to hurt himself."
Now Kongpob found the arsonist of the shedrow. It was Arthit. Maybe he prepared the chaotic situation to use it as his chance to escape from here. While the servants were busy with taking control of the fire, he could ran far away. But why today? Of course the unexpected situation was an opportunity for him to escape without being noticed but he was more worried about Arthit why the latter choose today to elope too.
There was a loud bang resounding in the air. It was a fist that rammed against someone's cheek. Kongpob just hit Aim for disobeying him and letting Arthit escape while knowing that the latter was being targeted everywhere. Of course, he knew Aim let Arthit escape on purpose so he hit him to teach him a little lesson.
„A few minutes ago and you didn't think of reporting to me as soon as possible?"
„I..."
„I told you to protect him but you let him be by himself in this dangerous time. Pray that nothing happen to him, Aim", his expression was cold as ice, just like before he met Arthit four years ago. „Now lead the way!", he yelled at him.
As soon as they came out of the darkness of the corner, a man blocked their route, refusing to make way for them. The person turned out to be the eunuch Ko Thiha. He approached them, hitting Kongpob on the cheek. Thiha blamed the young guard for breaking his Highness's heart. Because Arthit trusted Kongpob, he believed him that he would stay by him for a long time. Now that he broke his heart by stating that he would have to return to his home, Arthit choose to elope too at the same time as Kongpob would leave him. He didn't want to live alone in such a dark place like the palace so he choose to lead a carefree life without the royalties ot being controlled by everyone. According to Thiha, Kong made the prince like a homeless person now. Before they didn't meet, Arthit never thought about running away from the palace but choose to accept his fate as the future ruler. Kongpob was poison for Arthit.
After listening to the reason why Arthit chose today to run away, Kongpob's guilty feelings raised, his heart beating faster. Because the shorter man wanted to leave the same time as he would leave Burma, he endangered himself by running away into an unknown destination. Kongpob promised Thiha to bring Arthit back without any further delay, the taller man passed beside him, closely followed by his shadow Aim. Both of them mingled among the many soliders who were dispatched to search for the crown prince. When they arrived outside, they seperated from the crowd, went in a back alley then called for their horses. Kongpob's horse, Ma and another white furred horse gallopped to them. Both strong men rode the horses in the opposite direction of the soldiers. After Aim gave him the direction Arthit took, they chased after the crown prince to bring him back.
„You better bring him back...", the eunuch mumbled, leaning his back on the wall, breaking down since his last strength left him. He sat down on the ground, tears streaming down his eyes. But there was something wrong with his tears. Did he cry because he was worried about Arthit's safety? Or did he cry because he would miss Arthit who managed to escape from his miserable life? Was he happy or sad about his prince leaving to search for his freedom? Did he even want Kongpob to bring his Highness back only to suffer again?
****
Kongpob and Aim managed to close the distance between Arthit and them. They finally found the crown prince after leaving many kilometers behind them. Arthit, disguised in complete black peasant's clothes, was taking a break under a big tree, drinking water from the pond. He took his horse to drink water too since the animal seemed thirsty. Kongpob and his shadow remained hidden in the forest. This situation looked like a Deja Vu too. It wasn't the first time that Kongpob escaped from the prison. The first time he was taken captive for being a spy, he escaped from there too and followed Arthit in the forest as the latter took a few soliders and his shadow Knott with him. He saw the way the shorter man fought against bandits and even managed to outwit the boss of the bandits. Since he captured the leader of the bandits, he saved Maprang and him from the death punishment. Yeah that time, the shadow hidden in the forest and observing the prince, was Kong. Like he said to Arthit, he wouldn't die so easily.
The taller man mustered Arthit from head to toes, heaving a relieved sigh when realizing that his Highness was unharmed. He's alright... Arthit wipped off the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, his face calm as never before. Kongpob couldn't take his eyes from the shorter man. A smile played on his lips. Somehow Arthit seemed more relaxed even though he just escaped his own palace that should shelter him but made him suffer instead. There were few times when Arthit looked so relaxed that one wouldn't believe that he had worries too that turned his dreams into nightmares. The few times Arthit would smile and laugh were when he had Kongpob by his side. But whenever Arthit was alone, he would fell so lonely, uncomfortable around the higher officials and observed by many hateful eyes that were waiting for him to make mistakes.
How come you look so happy when you just left your life as the crown prince behind? Is it really easy to reject your duties and take your life in your hand too? Kongpob smiled again upon seeing Arthit taking a deep breath from the fresh breeze blowing by, the pain in his heart slowly eased. It didn't heart anymore but the guilty feelings remained. Maybe it wasn't bad for Arthit to run away from the palace. Maybe he would be finally happy when he was far away from the court officials and his duties as the future Emperor. Yeah, you'll be fine on your own now. As long as your happy, I'll be satisfied too. Nobody'll threaten you anymore.
„Pleasse, be happy my sun...", Kongpob turned away as Arthit prepared his luggages on the horse and jumped on the animal to continue his travel in an unknown destination.
„Aren't we taking him back?", Aim was confused, wanted to know the reason why they should leave Arthit alone now.
„Leave him... He'll be more happy without the palace and me", Kongpob told him.
Aim and Kongpob were about to return to their horses as they sensed danger in the air. They immediately turned to Arthit's direction but they were too late. Something long flew in the air, suddenly hit Arthit's on the chest. The latter fell down from his horse, of course the scared animal ran away from fear. There were four men, dressed in complete black, dashing to the on the ground laying crown prince. Aim quickly took arrows from his back, shoting them one by one. The arrows hit 3 assassins who wanted to stab the shorter man on the back. They died on the spot. Kongpob managed to block the last assassin's sword that was about to kill Arthit, almost piercing the young prince's heart. The shorter man swung his sword so hard that the force threw the assassin's sword aside. Kongpob slashed the assassin on the chest, throwing his own sword away to kneel down on the ground. There was an arrow sticked in Arthit's chest near his heart.
Kongpob leaned Arthit's head on his lap, leaning him closer to his body. His hand slowly approached him but he retired his hand since he was scared to touch Arthit's frail body. He feared the latter would turn into ashes and fly with the wind if he touched him. However the shorter man had his eyes open, his breath was shallow, his chest going up and down while breathing irregular. His vision was blurry at first but after blinking for a few times, he finally recognized Kongpob holding him into his arms. The taller man touched him on the cheek, blood dripping from Arthit's mouth stained his palm.
„Arthit...", he called him with his soft but deep voice.
„Kon...", the prince couldn't call him since his mouth was filled with blood, dripping from the corner of his lips.
„I'm sorry for leaving you behind", tears filled his eyes.
Something wet dripped on Arthit's cheeks. They were tears. Tears Kongpob was shedding for the man he loved so much. He just wanted Arthit to have a quiet life without pain and torture so he let him escape but it was a mistake. It was a mistake to leave Arthit's side even though he knew he was targeted by assassins. Because of him wanting to give him a life without pain, he ended up letting him getting hurt. His tears were warm, too warm for the shorter man's body that turned cold. His Highness turned paler, the skin around the injured place changed into green, meaning the arrow was set with poison.
Aim arrived to them, calling his master to ride back to the palace. Kongpob jumped on his Ma, letting Aim giving him Arthit's body that felt too light for a grown up man. He leaned Arthit closer in his arms then rode the way back to Burma's palace. On their way back there, Aim explained to his master that he listened to a talk between the premier minister and Jay, they mentioning about a rare poision that came from Siam. The antidote could be only found in Siam.
There was the end of crown prince's travel. His goal was to leave his tasks as the future ruler behind and find a quieter place where he could survive without worrying about his future but now he was one the verge of dying. Again. With the bad injury Arthit received, Kongpob wouldn't leave him without being sure that his lover was safe. Out of danger too.
****
Kongpob entered the crown prince's chamber, carefully letting the injured Arthit down on the bed. The Emperor, Empress, the five princesses, the Emperor's physician and Ko Thiha were behind them, they gathered around the conscious Arthit who was writhing in pain, moaning in pain pain too. The Emperor grabbed at Kongpob's collar, pulling him by force.
„How did it happen?", the question should be how Kongpob escaped from the dungeon but a father didn't care about such situation but only about his son right now. He was more worried about his son's safety.
„Assassins...", there was Kongpob's answer.
Although he didn't mention much, everyone in the room were sure who the mastermind behind the assassination attempt could be. Kongpob called the physician, telling him about the kind of poison Arthit was fighting against. As the physician told Kongpob that this kind of poison and its antidote could be only found in Siam, Kongpob assured the older man that he would find the antidote no matter the circumstamce. According to him, the physician just needed to follow his inscription and brew a medicine for Arthit to alleviate the pain while he would return to Siam and search for the medicine that could save him. This time the Emperor felt helpless. He was the ruler of this nation. The father of Burmese who saved his country many times but today he failed as a father. He couldn't save his son nor fulfill his wishes. Because he was a powerless father, he had to control his only son just to save him from the mischievous ministers. Today a man who was accused of being a spy, was his son's only hope. Arthit's life was in Kongpob's hand now.
After sharing the details about the medicine with the physician, Kongpob took a last look at Arthit. It was heart breaking to leave Arthit in this state but he promised to return to him to save him. He would find the anditote and return to him soon. Before he left the chamber, he let the physician assure him that he would keep his Highness alive untill his arrival. The taller man took the direction to the big gate that lead him out of the palace.
****
Kongpob was on his way to his country, Siam. After leaving some distances behind, he felt the night too calm to be truth. It wasn't a pleasant but a strange silence that tried to warn him about the calamity that would occure soon. There was a piercing pain in his heart, making it impossible for him to rest calm. There was something wrong with Aim too. He seemed disturbed by something unknown to his master.
Finally they arrived at Burma's border. There were many soldiers there waiting for Kongpob. They were his soldiers who should escort him back to Siam without any further delay. Their purpose was to protect Kongpob since he was precious to Siam too. Kongpob was in the front, closely follwed by Aim. The other soldiers were behind them since they were on a lower rank than them. Before they took the direction to leave Burma, Aim suddenly stopped in the track, bowing down his head to Kongpob.
„I'm sorry, master but I can't keep it a secret from you anymore."
Kongpob was confused but he was sure that Aim knew something. Surely, Aim was hiding a secret from him. As he asked his shadow to tell him the truth, his shadow hesitated first but he revealed him that he listened to a conversation between prince Jay and the premier minister ealier. As soon as he eavesdropped at them, he sent a message to Siam's royalties about their enemy's plan but Siam didn't want Kongpob to find out about the secret because they feared he would try to interfer. But since the Aim's loyalties laid to Kongpob, he couldn't keep the matter a secret anymore.
„They planed a treason against the whole royal family...", finally Jay's ultimate plan to overthrew the Emperor was revealed. „Prince Jay planed to kill the whole family and take over the palace."
Kongpob's eyes widened in shock when hearing the bad news. So this is their plan they needed to succeed so they let the Emperor imprison him to get rid of him and Arthit's shadow Knott. His heartbeat accelerated when thinking about his Arthit suffering soon just because of a simple throne. „When?", he was agitated, couldn't think straight anymore since his Arthit's life was at stake.
„It already began...", Aim raised his head to look at his master.
Without further delay, Kongpob returned to the palace. It didn't take him half so long to return to the palace. His skilfull fighters rode behind him, didn't think of losing their master now. Fortunately the big gate to the palace wasn't locked, the taller man quickly descanded from his Ma, entering the palace but to his own surprse, there was bloodbtah on the ground as if a feast to slash everyone was manisfested here. There were dead corspes of soldiers, maids and other servants everywhere. Kongpob was shocked, froze on the spot due to the horrofied pictures offering to him. It wasn't a simple treason but a complete massacre to get rid of the royalties' loyal servants. They killed everyone, even innocent servants who just began working for the imperial family.
„... Arthit...", his name softly escaped his mouth. He dashed in the crown prince's chamber.
Some enemies appraoched them, shouting to kill them immediately without leaving a single person alive. While Kongpob took the way to the second big wing of the palace, some of his soldiers remained outside, fighting against the soldiers who caused the treason. He arrived in Arthit's chamber but there were no traces from him or from the imperial family. There were bodies of servants lying on the ground. The physician's dead body was among them too. The old man he talked with a hour ago, was dead now, slashed on the chest as if he was an animal instead of a human being.
With little hope left, the taller man ran in the court where every state affairs were discussed in. Of course many soldiers tried to block his way but Kong's guards killed them one by one without letting them getting close to him. There was someone he knew lying on the ground. It was the Emperor, holding his sword in his hand even though he was badly injured on the chest. His eyes were blurry from too much bloodlost, he couldn't even lift up his hand. He blinked many times, finally recognizing the man kneeling down beside him as Kongpob.
„Please...", he wanted to speak but only blood came out of his mouth. He coughed too much blood, was unable to speak but he forced the words out. „Please... Save... my family... Save my son". Life was strange! A few hours ago the Emperor took Kong captive because the man kissed his son but now he begged the same man to save his family. He should save his son.
Kongpob leaned the Emperor on his lap. The older man mumbled something only Kongpob could hear, something that seemed like a secret. After releasing the words he wanted to say, his eyes closed. The light of life was gone, he was dead. Kongpob's heart felt heavy, it was painful to see his country's enemy dying such unrightful death he didn't deserve as the ruler of the nation. What a pity! The country lost a strong and rightful Emperor. A Emperor who fought for his country. A Emperor who tried to protect his family but died during the fight.
Now Kongpob was angry. His anger towards Jay raised. How could the bastard Jay be so heartless enough to assassinate his own uncle for power? Never would he forgive him for the unnecassary massacre he did in the palace. The taller man took his gown off, respectfully laid it on the Emperor to cover his body. He pressed his hands together, praying for his soul to rest in peace. Even though he had a disagreement with the Emperor before, the older man was his lover's father. He was like his father-in-law.
Kongpob stepped in the court that was bitterly guarded by the Emperor till his end. When he entered the court, there was another bloodbath left there. This time he found the whole royal family dead. The five princesses, the Empress and other servants who protected the family till their end were slashed brutally. Their bodies were scattered around. His guards went to fell their pulses if some of them were still alive but none of them showed sign of being alive. Like heir master Kong did a minute ago, they covered their bodies too with their gown.
Everyone was dead but Kongpob didn't find the man he was searching for. There was still no answer from Arthit. Kongpob stood up, looking around till his eyes set upon an entrance that lead to an unknown destination. He ran there, entering the secret passageway that was meant as emergency room for the royal family. Kongpob searched for Arthit. His heart was beating faster the deeper he went in the basement. He couldn't think straight, his head was in chaos, he was scared at the fact that he could see Arthit's body deposed somehwere too. Not alive but dead. There was a large place in the middle of the passageway, one opening on the right and another one on left to choose. There were two men waiting before the openings. One man was laying on the ground, closely leaned onto the other man's lap. Kongpob's eyes widened in shock when he recognized the two men. There were Ko Thiha and... Arthit. But one of them was dead. The dead man was the eunuch Ko Thiha. Arthit clenched Thiha's motionsless body to his lap, refusing to let go and run in a safer place, tears rolling down nonstop.
Arthit looked up, realizing Kongpob in front of him but he didn't move nor say a word. His hands were stained with blood, probably blood from his beloved eunuch he saw as his best friend. Arthit's shock was too profound, his eyes were empty from any emotions. He looked paler than before Kongpob left him, his whole body trembling. Kongpob approached him, kneeling before him, mustering him closely. Arthit seemed weak due to the poison circulating in his blood vessels. Before the taller man could apologize to him for leaving him, Kongpob's many guards gathered around them, going on their knees, hitting on the ground, keeping their eyes on the ground as respect to their master.
„The enemies are approaching... We have to go, Phrabat Somdet Phra Chao Yu Hua Kongpob", Aim called, revealing Kongpob's identidy to Arthit.
Arthit didn't have much acknowledges about Siam's language but he was aware of some important titles to know that Phrabat Somdet Phra Chao Yu Hua meant in his own language: Shin Ba Yin. So this is Kongpob's real identity. His arms fell down due to the weakness when he finally found out who Kongpob really was. It was something he didn't expect nor think about the possbility. He was someone he would hate for the rest of his life.
*****************************
I'm sorry that the story turned out to be a tragedy in the end :( But I planed it a long time ago and didn't change anything about the story... Everyone in the royal family is dead and only Arthit remained alive... But there's more to come too... If you're confused then wait for the last part because it will be told from Arthit's view how the whole treason began as Kongpob left to search for the antidote ;)
I won't explain what the words Aim called Kongpob meant :D Search it yourself then you'll be surprised ;) It's time to learn some thai words (Hope it's correct) if you find it then don't tell anyone about it ;)
If someone feel offended about this part then write me on private and not on the comment section. Beside there's more surprises to come too :D Thanks for the comprehension
