Chapter 3: The Demon Lawyer
Chapter 3: The Demon Lawyer
Vũ Phi Toàn didn't hesitate to nod.
"You should go home early. Stop meddling in unnecessary matters."
With that, he turned and walked away. Even from behind, his figure was mesmerizing—swift, decisive movements, exuding confidence. No wonder he was the brightest star of the Security Bureau.
Also... the man she had secretly harbored feelings for.
Meddling? If Vũ Phi Toàn, as a security officer, could handle this, why couldn't she? She was also an officer. His words stung a little, making her feel underestimated.
But maybe he said that out of concern for her.
Whatever. She was exhausted from performing autopsies all day. Deciding to let it go, she stopped by a supermarket, grabbed some snacks, and headed home.
Just as she was leisurely strolling along the sidewalk, a strong hand yanked her away.
This time, her mouth and eyes were covered.
By the time she was dragged deep into an alley, she could finally make out some light from a dim streetlamp.
And standing before her was none other than the famous lawyer she had just seen on the big screen.
Flanking him were two tall, imposing men. Not dirty or foul-smelling like typical thugs—these guys reeked of expensive cologne.
She sighed in exasperation and pulled out her security ID.
"I'm Hoàng Hải Vân, forensic examiner. Lately, I've been checking the lower halves of dead men more often than I'd like. Surely, that's not a crime serious enough to warrant a lawyer's interrogation, is it?"
The lawyer remained expressionless, but a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, radiating an unsettling confidence.
"A body was sent to your lab today. Did you notice anything... unusual?"
She frowned, thinking about it. Why was she suddenly caught up in this mess? She answered nonchalantly, just wanting to get it over with.
"The victim was indeed strange. Still intact. Not missing a single piece."
The lawyer's brows furrowed.
Then, without warning, he raised his gun and pressed it against her temple.
Her snack bag slipped from her hand, spilling onto the ground.
His voice remained calm.
"Did you find a USB?"
Her mind raced. Could it be... the strange object she had retrieved from the victim's body?
She swallowed hard, reached into her bag, and pulled out a USB.
"Is this what you're looking for? Now, will you let me go?"
He snatched the USB from her hand, as if afraid she might pull it back.
At that moment, footsteps approached from the alley entrance.
She turned slightly and caught sight of a familiar figure.
It was the young man from earlier.
He moved toward her with ghostly grace, light as an autumn breeze, yet chilling.
Under the moonlight, his silhouette shimmered, casting an eerie, almost otherworldly beauty.
Why did she keep running into dangerously beautiful men?
But maybe... just maybe...
He was here to save her.
