Impediment

I caught a glimpse of her beautiful face, and in an instant

My heart was lost, as her sky-blue eyes gazed into my soul, and she

Placed her hand in mine, with unquestionable trust, was an unlikely impediment, but there was no time foe sentiment

Each wasted second was another life lost, and

Deliver the residents  safely from the tower, we must, for

It was a race against time, so I did not think to ask her name, as we were

Moved along by the tide of terror, I felt her fingers slip from mine, she was swept away, as we

Entered the crowded lift shaft, it was a calculated was a risk we had to take, but

Nothing could be done, as an influx of white-hot air, turned the lift shaft into a furnace

Turning to smoke, there was a moment of clarity, I caught a fleeting glimpse of her beautiful face, like an angel she reached out and  took my hand, and side by side we walked into heaven

A tribute to heroic Firefighters around the world, who risk their lives each day.
