There is a poor man who thinks only of kindness. He saved a baby sparrow from a snake and heals her broken leg. She returns with three pumpkin seeds that grant him good fortune.

There is a rich man, his brother. He breaks a sparrow's leg—allegedly the same bird—and pretends to fix it. She brings him three pumpkin seeds as well. They are a curse, humbling him.

Only the greedy brother was never humbled. He took and took and rebuilt his empire.
