03. CHAPTER THREE
CHAPTER THREE
"I HEAR YOU, HARLEY." aurora slipped her shoe on her foot before reaching for the other one, doing the same. she stumbled a bit, smacking her knee against her nightstand, causing her picture frame to wobble. she quickly grabbed it and made it still before she smiled at the picture. it was of her and harley on the first day they became college roommates. it was also the picture frame that had been knocked over a week ago when tim was at the house. she really needed to get a new steadier one.
"are you almost ready? you're supposed to be here in ten minutes and your place is fifteen minutes away. you're such a slacker." harley spoke.
"i'm ready." aurora stated. "i just got my shoes on. i'm grabbing my keys and heading out the door now. i'll be there soon." she hung up the phone and headed into the kitchen to grab her car keys and bag. she made her way out to her car and climbed in, putting her best friend's address into the gps.
she played music on the ride there, singing along to all the words for every song, until she arrived. her brows furrowed at the sight of the truck in the driveway. why did the truck look so familiar? she shook her head and cut the engine, tossing her keys into her purse as she grabbed it and climbed out of the car. she made her way up to the front door just in time for harley to fling it open and hug the girl.
"jesus, har. you act like you haven't seen me in months." she joked.
"it's been two days." harley stated. "that's a long time."
aurora playfully rolled her eyes and hugged her back before she was led inside the house. "my dad's in the backyard taking a work call, so he'll be in to say hi in a little bit." harley stated as she led her into the kitchen.
aurora groaned, "you already told me i made a fool of myself the one and only time i met him. i don't think i'll ever be able to look him in the eye. he probably thinks so lowly of me."
harley laughed, "you're fine, rory. that was a long time ago."
"what kind of work does your dad do again?" the blonde asked.
"he's a cop." she stated, reaching for the cabinet handle to pull out glasses. "water or soda?"
"water, please." she answered. her mind wandered off to tim and how he said he was going to feel obligated to arrest her if she drove home drunk. dear god, she was feeling horny just thinking about the man. she definitely should've asked him for his number.
harley got the girl some water before getting herself soda and headed to the living room where she opened the back door to shout to her dad. "just letting you know rory's here, dad!" she closed it again and led the girl towards the direction of the stairs. "let's go to my room." the two headed up the stairs and in the direction of said room. aurora sat on harley's bed and the brunette sat in the spinning chair she had at her vanity. "my dad said he'd make sure to stay in his room when we do our marathon." she stated.
"don't kick the man out of his own living room." aurora chuckled. "he can watch with us if he wants."
harley laughed, "he is definitely not a fan of twilight."
"neither am i anymore, but i still watch it for you." the blonde pointed a finger at her best friend.
the brunette smiled, spinning in her chair. "and i appreciate you more than you'll ever know."
aurora chugged her water, as she hadn't had anything to drink in awhile. "can i grab some more water?"
"of course." harley nodded. "you're family, rory. you don't have to ask."
the blonde girl blew her friend a kiss as she made her way off the bed and headed towards the door. she skipped her way down the stairs and walked into the kitchen, filling up her water as she had seen harley do. she heard the back door open and close and footsteps on the floor.
"you must be rory." the voice made her freeze and the glass slipped from her hand, falling to the floor. she knew that voice. it sounded like pure sex; how could she forget it? the glass shattered around her feet and she cursed as she turned to look at the man. the man she had hooked up with a week prior was her best friend's father? holy shit. his eyes widened at the sight of her and she opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. she quickly bent down to clean it up and sliced her hand on a piece of glass from her nerves.
"fuck." she cursed under her breath.
tim rushed over and grabbed her hand. "let me clean this up."
"what the hell happened?" harley came rushing down the stairs. "are you okay?"
"she's fine." tim answered. "her glass slipped and she cut her hand. can you please clean it up? i'm going to help her with her hand."
harley nodded, "yeah, of course."
tim grabbed aurora's wrist and led her down the hall to the bathroom, softly closing the door behind them. "sit down." he ordered, gesturing to the tub. aurora's cheeks heated up as she sat on the edge of the bathtub, watching tim reach under the sink for the first aid kit.
"you–" she didn't know how to say it. he glanced over at her and she licked her lips. "you're harley's dad."
"yeah," he mumbled, turning back to grab the kit. "and you're her best friend." he placed the kit on the toilet lid and opened it up. he reached for a hand towel and got it wet before placing his hand out for her to put hers in his. "my daughter's best fucking friend." he was pissed.
"i'm sorry, tim. i didn't realize you were her dad. you know i wouldn't have slept with you if i knew." she spoke in a hushed tone.
"i knew you looked familiar." he mumbled, cleaning up her cut with the wet towel before he grabbed some ointment to put on it. "god dammit, i'm a fucking idiot."
"you're not an idiot, tim. neither of us knew." aurora lifted his chin so he was looking at her with her free hand.
he shook his head, but didn't move as she still held his chin. "i am, aurora." there was a silence between them. their eyes locked as they just stared at each other. he looked down at her hand, applying the ointment before he bandaged it up. "i'm an idiot because i don't regret it."
she looked at him with wide eyes. "tim, i–"
he cut her off, shaking his head. "you may regret it, aurora, but i don't. that was one of the most amazing nights i have had in a long time and that's what makes it more fucked up. you're my daughter's best friend. i should've known when you said your name was aurora and you were around my daughter's age. she never called you by your actual name. she always called you rory and i didn't put two and two together." he was rambling at that point.
"tim," aurora spoke quietly. "i don't regret it either. i–" she shook her head. "i can't get you out of my head. you're all i've been thinking about."
"we–we can't do anything." tim stated. "ever again and harley can never know."
"i know." she nodded softly, looking at her lap. he lifted up her chin and brought his face close to hers. "tim, i–"
he pressed his lips to hers, kissing her softly. it wasn't like any of their kisses that night. this one felt different. it felt more passionate and aurora hated it. she hated how good it felt. she hated how she knew this was going to be the last time she was going to be able to kiss him.
FUCK.
gosh darn i love this
too much already
