I

it was a rainy day when seokjin began to take notice of the boy who sat alone in the corner of the classroom. he always would doodle instead of paying attention but he was top of the class still. he was smart, tall, but seokjin saw past that. he saw the sharp structure of his face from lack of food, he saw the dark bags under his eyes, he saw the void emotion in his empty eyes. he saw everything, everything everyone else chose to ignore.

seokjin was shy and quiet, but he wasn't considered a loner. he got good grades and had a decent amount of friends. his home life was good, his mother made sure he didn't over work himself in his studies. his father always came home with a smile on his face even though he had a bad day at work. seokjin's life was in a way, perfect. seokjin was grateful of that but deep down he scolded it. how could he get such a great life and the sad boy in the corner wasn't as lucky. he was so smart, so gorgeous, so misunderstood.

seokjin wanted to speak to him, invite him to his table but he could never gather up the courage to do so. besides, he knew the male didn't want pity. he didn't want to only be in seokjin's life to ease his guilt of having a better life. seokjin didn't quiet understand what made the boy in the corner so sad. he had seen his parents, namjoon's family had a great amount of money. seokjin only assumed that namjoon didn't get attention at home because his parents were always working.

namjoon always showed up dressed to impress, he had admirers but no one approached him. everyone saw the sadness in him and chose that it was too much luggage to handle... no matter how handsome his face was. the only words seokjin heard come from namjoon wasn't enough to fill seokjin's craving for the sound of his smooth voice. he had barely heard it, it was a mere mumble. but seokjin thanked every god up above for letting him be able to hear the boys voice, even if it was just barely enough. seokjin remembered the words vividly. he recited them every night before he went to bed.

"my apologies."

it was small. seokjin hadn't been paying attention and was carelessly gathering his belongings together at the end of class. which was the reason why his elbow bumped his literature book off his desk, causing it to fall off his desk and onto the floor. it had blocked namjoon's way as he was trying to dart out of the classroom before being stopped. namjoon had swiftly picked up the heavy book and handed it to seokjin, mumbling those two words with a bow before sprinting to the exit. seokjin had only furrowed his brows in response. it wasn't namjoon's fault what so ever, so why would he apologize? seokjin couldn't shake off the stare namjoon had when handing him the book. they were so empty, a bottomless pit of nothing. the words were so sharp yet so quiet.

namjoon spoke quickly, robotically. almost as if he were on auto-pilot, the words immediately coming past his pink lips. seokjin felt a ping in his stomach, namjoon had spoken those words so casually and nonchalantly it seemed as though he stated that so much it's become the only phrase he's come to know. now it was literature class again and seokjin was stealing glances at the boy in the corner of the room who was staring ahead with his lips in a thin line. he didn't even flinch, seokjin had begun to think he wasn't even breathing. the bell had rung, signaling the dismissal of class. literature was the last period of the day. seokjin sighed heavily as he checked his phone before gathering the last of his belongings.

hobi: jungkook didn't go after your ex tho why do you still hate him for something he cant help...

yoongs: the only one im okay with is namjoon. and he's not talkative so... have fun with that.

"jinnie!" seokjin fumbled with his phone before darting his gaze towards the owner of the bubbly voice. "what're you doing? the bell rang already, let's go!"

seokjin nodded and slid his backpack on, ignoring the messages that followed after the last message he read before being interrupted. the only thing that stood out was namjoon's name. this could be the chance for him to finally talk to the lonely boy who sat silently in the corner of the class. it made seokjin happy to know that namjoon atleast had some friends. seokjin was aware that yoongi and namjoon were close at one point in time, before yoongi joined him and his friends' group. yoongi didn't give much information on the boy though, he only said that he was not into conversation and was misunderstood. he never went deeper then that.

"you read the groupchat?" taehyung gripped his backpack straps that rested around his shoulders and walked through the halls along side seokjin.

"some." seokjin was shy but once you got to know him he was more talkative. he was comfortable around his group of friends, mainly because they didn't care. that and because they had no room to judge, they named their groupchat "goober groupchat" for crying out loud.

"yoongi's being unfair." taehyung whined loudly with a dramatic pout. "he knows better than to act like that about his ex, especially in front of hobi."

"refresh me on what happened with that, i can't quite remember why he hates jungkook so much."

"his ex dumped him and went after jungkook. in his defense though, he didn't have mutual feelings and couldn't help how the other felt!" taehyung groaned in annoyance.

"not only did he make you mad, he pissed hobi off. yoongi is starting the weekend off wrong." seokjin shook his head as he caught sight of the couple up ahead.

hoseok was leaning against a pillar by the parking lot while yoongi was talking with his hand rested beside his head as he leaned on it for support.

"yoongi should give up, bickering won't make hobi any less mad. in fact, it'll do the opposite." taehyung snorted and sped up to disturb the bickering couple. seokjin sighed and shook his head when yoongi shot him a pleading look.

"hoseok, how many times have i said this?! i only love you!" yoongi shouted while leaning closer to hoseok who pushed him away and ignored him.

"you two coming over tonight?" hobi rolled his eyes at the loud groan yoongi let out from beside him.

"yeah, ill hang out with jungkook separately. i didn't mean to cause such a mess." taehyung frowned.

"yeah, a little too late to fix the damage that's been done." yoongi deadpanned before hoseok slapped him in the chest with a glare.

"it's fine, i'm glad you made a new friend." hoseok's praise made taehyung smile brightly.

the group walked to their cars, but seokjin paused before sliding into his. he watched with awe as namjoon got into his sports car. seokjin was reminded that he came from a rich family, a family of higher class. yet he was still so unhappy. even hoseok had teased that money could buy happiness but seokjin would always see yoongi barely chuckle while eyeing namjoon's figure who was a table away as he mumbled the words that broke seokjin's heart once he realized what he meant and who he was directing it towards.

"not always."

{coming soon!}
