Chapter 2: Turning gears
Soobin knew that Yeonjun was close with Wooyoung, he knew.
He also knew that Yeonjun could flirt with anything, even a tree.
Finally yet importantly, Yeonjun was an attractive single man who could do anything he wanted.
That meant Soobin had no business in feeling like Thor had just used his big giant hammer to hit his head, when he opened the door and saw Yeonjun and Wooyoung kissing.
The sound of him dropping his shopping bag must have been loud, because the two persons on the sofa startled and turned to look at him. Both of them stood up at the same time (which should be hilarious but Soobin could assure that it was anything but), and Wooyoung opened his mouth, said hello awkwardly, then dashed out of the door in less than five seconds, leaving Soobin still standing there continue to look at Yeonjun with his mouth open like an idiot.
- Uhhh....sorry you had to see that. Anyway, what did you buy?_Yeonjun pointed to the dropped bag on the floor.
Did Yeonjun just change the subject like that? Like what happened was nothing? Soobin could not understand how he could continue to be so unaffected of the whole situation.
- Hyung, what...how...what just HAPPENED? WHAT did you DO?
Yeonjun seemed confused. He looked at Soobin like he was surprised by what he was hearing. When he speak up, his voice was low and slow:
- Soobinie...why are you angry?
Then his face was replaced by shock.
- Did you...are you...homophobic?
- What? NO!_Soobin hastily replied._Of course not, but...but...
But what? Soobin did not know. He just knew that it was not right, and that he was very much not okay with whatever was occuring there on that sofa.
- Then why are you angry?
- Because!
- Because...?
- Because...because we shouldn't be dating, right now! Yes, that's right! We shouldn't._Soobin convinced Yeonjun as well as himself, feeling less disoriented as he finally figured out why the situation was not sitting right with him._ We just started our career, if you get tangled in romance right now it will affect us as the whole group. What if some bad person got hold of this information? What if it resulted in a scandal? I just don't want all our hard work to go to waste.
The crestfallen look on Yeonjun's face made Soobin's heart ache. His unfounded anger started to dissipate and instead he felt guilty. He did not want to be the person who made Yeonjun sad. Yeonjun should be happy, and if Wooyoung was the reason for Yeonjun's happiness, then who was he to hinder that?
Soobin wanted to apologize, but before he could, Yeonjun beat him to it:
- Sorry, you're right. I shouldn't be so careless. I should think about our group, it was selfish of me.
He came and picked up Soobin's tote bag from the floor, examined the things he had bought: some bread, milk and cheese. And lots of coffee. Yeonjun started to go to the kitchen to put those stuffs away, and Soobin trailed behind, knowing that he should say something but not knowing what to say.
As he pulled out the bread and put it on the kitchen table, Yeonjun continued:
- Anyway, it was not like we were dating or anything. It's just a one-time thing so you don't have to worry.
This time it was Soobin who got confused.
- A one-time thing?
- Yeah, experiment, you know. To see if...well, there's no other way to say it. To see if I like guys or not. It won't happen again.
Soobin's heart was beating loudly in his chest. He ignored it.
- But why Wooyoung?
Yeonjun put the milk into the refrigerator.
- He's the only one I can trust with something like this.
It hurted more than Soobin thought hearing that. The only one he could trust? What about me? He wanted to ask, but the question sounded ridiculous even in his own head. It was not like he wanted Yeonjun to kiss him or anything. They were like brothers. The other members were also out of the question, they were basically children in Soobin's eyes. Of course the most reasonable choice Yeonjun could have chosen was Wooyoung. They've known each other for a long time, and Wooyoung was a nice, trustable young man. His brain logically deducted, willing his heart to stop feeling like a dejected wet dog.
In an attempt to prove to himself that he was not bothered by Yeonjun's answer, Soobin asked:
- So...did you find out? Whether you like guys?
Yeonjun shrugged.
- Doesn't matter. I have no intention to date anyone anyway.
That did not improve Soobin's sour mood at all.
