CHAPTER 25 | FIDDLING WITH A GUN

The Infiltration Begins

Alyssa adjusted the straps of her tactical vest, eyeing the sleek, black walls of the building in front of her. The team was assembled outside, just beyond the high-tech security barrier of OrgaCorp's fortress. She could feel the familiar rush of anticipation; this mission was too important to screw up.

"We're in. Let's move," Alyssa ordered, her voice calm but sharp, cutting through the tension. Her team of elite agents responded with swift nods and prepared their gear. They had one goal: obliterate OrgaCorp from the inside.

Ryder, standing nearby, flashed a toothy grin. "Couldn't have said it better myself. Just another paycheck, right?" He adjusted his jacket, his laid-back attitude masking any real sense of urgency. If it weren't for the fact that this was an all-hands-on-deck mission, he wouldn't even be here.

Alyssa shot him a glance. "Just keep your head in the game."

He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by her seriousness. "Always, boss."

With the click of a button, a series of phantom cloaks flickered into existence. The team donned their cloaks, blending seamlessly into the shadows. They moved through the underground corridors of the OrgaCorp compound, navigating their way past patrols and high-tech security. There were no hiccups, no unnecessary noise. They were ghosts—silent, deadly.

Despite their success so far, an undercurrent of tension ran through the air. The Neon Apex team, consisting of more tech-oriented agents, worked from a different corner of the building, hacking into OrgaCorp's systems to disable surveillance and cut off communications. The Shadow Alliance, led by Alyssa, was handling the physical disruption—neutralizing guards, planting explosives, and setting up for the final blow.

"You know, it's hard to take these guys seriously," Ryder muttered, glancing over at the Neon Apex team members, who were hunched over their screens, fingers flying over the keys. "A bunch of glorified hackers. You really think they can bring down OrgaCorp with a few keystrokes?"

Alyssa shot him a look. "We're all in this together. Keep it together."

Ryder shrugged. "I'm just saying, if we blow something up, at least it'll be entertaining."

Alyssa clenched her jaw. There was a fine line between mission success and chaos, and Ryder was one step away from tipping it.

The team advanced deeper into the OrgaCorp's central hub, a massive building with reinforced walls and heavy security, loomed ahead. The mission was only half-done, but the finish line was in sight.

"On my mark," Alyssa whispered. She pointed to a set of guards patrolling ahead. The team was already in position, and within seconds, they pounced—silent and swift. The guards never saw it coming. Ryder let out a low chuckle as he dispatched one of the men with a swift, calculated strike.

"Too easy," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "These guys don't know who they're messing with."

Alyssa didn't even acknowledge him, her focus unwavering. Every minute spent here increased the risk of getting caught. She had to get to Alix and the intel they were after had to be extracted, and fast.

They reached the core of OrgaCorp's tech hub, where the heart of the company's operations was run. Alyssa and her team were quick to disable the security systems and set explosives at key points, ensuring that OrgaCorp would have no way of recovering from this.

Ryder found a way to make things a bit more complicated.

"Let's blow this up." he said, grinning as he set a charge on a server rack. The explosion rocked the compound, triggering alarms and sending a ripple of panic through the complex.

"You idiot!" Alyssa snapped, but her tone was laced with a hint of relief. At least it was one less thing they had to do manually.

Ryder ignored her. "Hey, don't act like you weren't thinking the same thing. Just admit it."

Alyssa didn't respond. They were well past the point of subtlety now. The whole building would be on alert soon enough.

The team made its way to the central control room, where the final stage of their operation awaited. Here, they would uncover everything—OrgaCorp's darkest secrets, including details of Project Genesis, the corporate behemoth's secret initiative designed to manipulate global markets and political systems.

Alyssa scanned the data on the terminal in front of her, the lines of code revealing the twisted ambitions behind OrgaCorp's plan. The scope of it was worse than she had imagined—if left unchecked, this could destroy entire economies, shifting power to the wrong hands.

"Crap," Ryder muttered, stepping forward. "This is way bigger than we thought."

Alyssa's mind raced. This wasn't just about shutting down OrgaCorp—it was about stopping a global catastrophe.

A figure stepped from the shadows—a high-ranking OrgaCorp official, clearly expecting the team. His eyes narrowed as he assessed the situation. The mission was compromised, but they hadn't gotten everything they needed yet.

"You won't get away with this," the official snarled, drawing a weapon.

"You should have thought about that before messing with us," Alyssa replied coolly. She motioned for the team to prepare for the inevitable fight.

In the ensuing chaos, Ryder, ever the wildcard, dove headfirst into the fray, setting off another series of explosives for good measure.

"Just wanted to make it interesting," Ryder grinned, not missing a beat as he tossed a grenade toward the guards rushing toward them.

Alyssa focused on the task at hand. She didn't have time for Ryder's antics. The team pressed on, determined to finish what they started.

With a final push, the team succeeded. The central servers were destroyed, key data was leaked, and OrgaCorp's ability to recover was shattered. The building's structural integrity was compromised, and the countdown to total destruction had begun.

"Mission complete," Alyssa said, her voice steady despite the tension in the air. "Time to go."

But even as she spoke, a sinking feeling gnawed at her. Alix. She hoped Alix was safe.

She glanced at Ryder, who was fiddling with his gun, clearly unfazed by the whole ordeal.

"You really don't care, do you?" Alyssa asked, exasperated.

"Huh?... Care about what? We did our job. What's not to like?" Ryder grinned, flashing his usual cocky smile. But there was something in his eyes—perhaps he understood the bigger picture more than he let on.

Alyssa let out a frustrated sigh but couldn't help but admire his unshakable demeanor.
