Think of Storm The Castle. Toffee told Star to destroy the wand. Then he thanks all the monsters for their help. The castle explodes. The only remains was Toffee's tux and the other half of the Butterfly family crystal (the wand's star.)
Flash forward to The Hard Way. Remember that the wand talks to Ludo. Ludo demands to see the secret chapter, ignoring Glosseryack's warning. Ludo becomes possessed by Toffee.
Flash forward, one more time, to Starcrushed. Believe me I am getting to the theory! The wand becomes Ludo's/Toffee's hand. He claims that Ludo is no longer "here". He is coming for his finger.
Now piece all the information together. My theory is that Toffee planned this happening the whole time! He knew the castle would explode so that he would die and the wand's crystal would break in two and make a separate wand for Ludo to find. I think Toffee possessed the wand causing the wand to talk to Ludo, telling Ludo all the decisions to make. He told Ludo that Glosseryack wasn't telling him about the secret chapter. He knew that the chapter would let himself into Ludo. And the tux that survived ,the explosion in Storm the Castle, was foreshadowing Toffee coming back. Just think! How could have Toffee been defeated so easily!
