Chapter VII: Another Day of Training

The next day, at the Cobra Kai dojo, the students were practicing when Kenny and his older sister Lucy suddenly showed up. Kenny's eyes widened at the sight of Steve and Candy.

"Can I help you?" Kreese noticed Kenny and Lucy.

"We're looking for Robby Keene." Kenny told Kreese, who then called for Robby. "Mr. Keene, you have two visitors."

"You know this kid." Tory asked Robby.

"I know this kid. We have some of our classes together." Emma explained to her sister.

"I-I-I'm Kenny. My brother, Shawn Payne, said you could help me." Kenny explained. "I didn't know Shawn had a brother. Is he out?" Robby asked.

"No. But my sister Lucy is. That's why I'm here. These a-holes keep hassling me."

All of a sudden Candy felt ashamed and guilty for laughing at him on the bus. "One of them knows karate, so..." Kenny explained.

"This is a dojo. You are interrupting my class." Kreese suddenly glared at Kenny. "I'm sorry. We didn't know." Lucy apologized.

"Sensei. Shawn Payne was one of the toughest guys in juvie. Kicked my ass a few times." Robby explained to Kreese.

"Y'know, in the real world, we have to fight our own battles. Cobra Kai can teach you how. But you have to prove that you're worthy." Kreese explained.

"How do I do that?" Kenny asked.

"Both of you, take your shoes off and get on the mat." Kreese ordered Kenny and Lucy.

At the Miyagi-Do dojo, the Eagle Fang students, specifically, Miguel, Julia, Bert, Mitch, Hawk, Dirk, Logan, Clara, Archie, Izzy, Charlie, Aurora, Anna, Ethan, and a few others were training. "Dude, you spilled a glass of wine. So what?" Hawk tried to ease Miguel of his worries.

"You should've heard the way Mr. LaRusso was talking about Sam's future. I can't even afford a car, let alone college. What if they think I'm not good enough?" Miguel lamented.

"Dude. You're El Serpiente. You're an All Valley champion." Hawk assured Miguel. "Just show Mr. LaRusso what you're made of. You're gonna crush whatever he throws at us today." Julia assured Miguel, too.

"Compared to Sensei Lawrence's training, today's gonna be a vacation." Penis Breath smiled.

"Who's going on vacation?" Daniel asked, and Miguel answered, "Uh, no one. What have you got for us today, Mr. LaRusso?"

"Come here." Daniel had them follow him. "Now, I know you've all been taught to strike first. What do you do when your opponent is faster than you?" Daniel asked.

"Are those real koi?" Penis Breath asked.

"They sure are. Today's lesson is simple. Catch a fish. But since I know you Eagle Fangs like a bit of competition, we're gonna make it interesting. So the first to succeed will have the honor of leading class all week. And you get to pick out what flavor Gatorade I buy next." Daniel explained.

"Aw, hell yeah! Hope you all like Glacial Freeze." Penis Breath was excited.

"Okay, where are the rods?" Julia asked.

"Back in my garage." Daniel answered. "Your bare hands are all you'll use and all you'll need. On your mark. Get set. Go!" Daniel announced.

The Eagle Fang students went into the pond to catch the koi. "Here, fishy, fishy, fishy, fishy." Despite Julia's effort, she still had trouble catching a koi. "Looks like you're a little wet behind the ears." Daniel told Miguel, who sighed. "Let's get you dried off." Daniel said.

On the other hand, Johnny was teaching the Miyagi-Do students, specifically Sam, Demetri, his little brother Brandon, Evan Pierce, Nathaniel, Abe Rivers, the Gouldman brothers, Alyssa and Amy Mills, and Chelsea Toguchi. He was leading them to what seemed to be a rooftop.

"Where is he taking us?" Nathaniel asked. "Nowhere good. I heard he drowned a kid in a pool trying to teach him how to kick, and that was before he sicced a rabid dog on Eli. This does not bode well." Demetri explained. "I've got a bad feeling about this." Evan complained. "Let's go, Miyagis. Move your asses!" Johnny ordered, and Demetri sighed. "Oh God. I'm tired of being right."

"What are we doing here?" Sam asked Johnny, who explained, "When an eagle's hungry, it doesn't hesitate. It'll dive down at 100 miles an hour to snatch its prey. Doesn't wait around for a fish to jump in its feet."

"Talons." Demetri corrected Johnny. "It's not talent. It's instinct." Johnny misheard what Demetri said. "An eagle knows it has to make the first move. If you want to beat Cobra Kai in the All Valley, you gotta break yourself of this wait-and-see crap." "And How exactly are we gonna do that?" Sam asked. "You're gonna jump from this roof to that one." Johnny explained.

"What? Are you crazy? That building is, like, five Nates away and we're at least 14 Nates high." Demetri couldn't believe it. "Please don't use me as a system of measurement." Nathaniel complained.

"Quiet!" Johnny yelled. "If you wanna be an eagle, first you gotta learn how to fly. You can't do that unless you jump."

"What if we fall?" Abe asked. "That's what the mattresses are for." Johnny answered.

"And if we miss the mattresses?" Bradon asked.

"Try not to. All right, who's first? We're not leaving 'till someone jumps. Let's go. I'll wait." Johnny was waiting.

"Then I guess you'll be waiting a long time. 'Cause we're not jumping." Sam scoffed.

Meanwhile, at the Cobra Kai dojo, Kreese was eager to see if Kenny and Lucy were Cobra Kai material. "All right, Mr. and Ms. Payne. Let's see what you got. Ms. Jimenez." Kreese called out. Both the Jimenez sisters stepped on the mat, but Kreese corrected himself. "Angelique, to be specific." Candy went back to her spot.

"Alright, newbie, let's see what you got!" Angelique was ready for action, but she was unaware that Lucy was a good fighter in juvie. The girls sent a few punches and kicks to each other, but Angelique was eventually knocked onto the mat, but still conscious.

"Mr. Park? The older one." Kreese called out for Kyler, who stepped on the mat. "But h-how am I supposed to fight if I haven't had any training yet?" Kenny asked in confusion.

"To be a Cobra Kai, you have to have a killer instinct." Kreese answered. "Fighting positions."

"Don't worry, man. I'll go easy on you." Kyler assured Kenny.

"Ais!" Kreese initiated the fight, though Kenny stepped back in fear, making the students laugh. "Come back on the mat. Grow some pubes. Let's go." Kyler taunted.

"It's all right, Mr. Payne. Try again." Kreese assured Kenny. He was willing to give him a second chance.

"Ais!" Kreese initiated the fight again, though there was a repeat of what just happened. "I've seen enough." Kreese said.

"Yeah, me too." Kyler agreed with Kreese, and everyone was laughing.

"What's so funny?" Kreese asked. "The All Valley's just a few short months away. We don't have time for losers. Or cowards."

Kenny left the dojo after that. "I better go follow him." Lucy decided to go with her young brother.

"I was so close to catching one. I definitely touched scale." Penis Breath said.

"I know this Chinese restaurant with a big-ass fish tank. We can go there and practice." Hawk brought up.

"They probably wouldn't allow it, though." Julia said.

"You, uh, comin'?" Hawk asked Miguel. "Uh, nah. My mom's picking Julia and I up." Miguel answered.

"All right. Well, stay dry, my friend." Hawk chuckled. Miguel's phone started buzzing and he answered. "Hey, Ma. Yeah, you on your way? Julia and I are still at Miyagi-Do. What? Are you okay? Okay. Uh, yeah, Julia and I will just catch an Uber home. Okay. Love you. Bye."

"Everything okay?" Daniel asked. "Uh, yeah, my mom's having some car troubles." Miguel answered.

"What kind of trouble? Can I help?" Daniel asked. "Uh, no, it's not that big of a deal she's calling a tow truck."

"Oh no, no. Oh no, she's not. I know what those jackals charge. Let me call my guys, we'll bring it in." Daniel offered. "That's not necessary." Miguel tried to assure Daniel. "Miguel, I do this for a living." Daniel explained. "Let me help."

"Okay. Thank you, Mr. LaRusso." Miguel thanked Daniel.

"It's not a problem. Okay? Come on, I'll give you a ride to the garage."

Meanwhile, Johnny was still waiting for the Miyagi-Do students to jump from one roof to the other. "Alright, what's the problem, LaRusso? Don't tell me you're scared of heights." Johnny gave Sam a look.

"I'm not scared." Sam answered.

"Then what is it? Worried you're gonna muss up your hair?" Johnny asked.

"My dad wouldn't want us doing this." Sam responded."Oh give me break. You do everything your mommy and daddy tell you to do? They told you to jump off a bridge, would you?" Johnny asked.

"You're telling us to jump off a building, how is that any different?" Evan asked Johnny.

"Yeah, onto another building." Johnny retorted. "Look, all I'm trying to do is help you doormats survive the All-Valley."

"If we do your training, I don't think we'll survive the afternoon." Sam complained.

"Look, we came with an open mind, but this ain't safe at all." Jesse told Johnny, who retorted, "Yeah, well, I know what I'm doing."

"Are you sure?" Evan asked.

"Cause based on your track record, you don't have the best judgement." Sam told Johnny.

"Oh you wanna talk, judgement?" Johnny asked Sam. "How about smashing into my Firebird and driving off with your girlfriends, you wanna explain that?" Johnny still remembered the time Yasmine, Moon, and Sam ran into his Firebird.

"I wasn't even driving, I was in the backseat." Sam retorted.

"And how about showing up at my place drunk and causing your dad to kick down my door. I'm guessing that wasn't your fault, either." Johnny shot back.

"I'm a teenage who's made a couple of mistakes. You're a 50-something year old man who lives alone, drinks all day, and clearly hasn't figured out his own life." Evan's eyes widened. He was impressed with how someone was willing to stand up to Johnny.

"I figured out one thing for sure. If I did everything my parents wanted me to do, I'd been wearing a suit and tie and some worthless job while I wait out the clock. I didn't want that. Now I get to do what I love every damn day. I get to try to help kids like you find their own way." Johnny explained. "If you wanna sit in the backseat your whole life, go right ahead. It's no sweat off my back."
