[OVERVIEW]

The 27 club is something I find very interesting. While I don't necessarily believe it, it is a very strange and interesting topic.

If you aren't aware the 27 club is a list of celebrities who died at the age of 27. And almost all the deaths are very similar. Most of the deaths are suicides. There are some accidental deaths and some homicides but majority of these have been reported as suicides, which cause some people to believe in this theory.

Many of the names were at the peak of their career and this causes many to think they might have sold their soul to the devil for fame. So who is in this 'club'?

All names below died at 27. I'm merely going to list what they did and how they died.

[KURT COBAIN]

I've talked about Kurt Cobain before about whether or not his death was really a suicide. If you haven't read it, you should.

Kurt was the lead singer of the band Nirvana

The official cause of death for Kurt was a suicide from a gunshot to his head.

[AMY WINEHOUSE]

Amy was a very popular singer. Her most famous song was probably Rehab. But she also had a dark lifestyle. Amy struggles with drugs and alcohol.

In 2011 alcohol took her life as her blood alcohol content was .416, far beyond the legal and recommended limit.

[JIMI HENDRIX]

Jimi Hendrix was a guitar legend. Almost everyone, even in 2019, knows who Jimi is.

In 1970 Jimi died after overdosing on his prescription sleeping pills which cause him to chock on his own vomit.

[JANIS JOPLIN]

Janis was also a very popular musician who died almost a month after Jimi.

In 1970 she was found in her hotel room after a member of her band found it odd she had not been out of the room yet.

She too took many sleeping pills and choked on her own vomit, just like Jimi had. But she also did heroine, which was ruled as her official cause of death.

[JIM MORRISON]

Jim was the frontman for The Doors. He died in 1971.

The official report is Jim died in his bathtub after a heroine overdose.

[ROBERT JOHNSON]

Robert was a Blues singer who possibly died of strychnine poisoning in 1938.

Many believe the whiskey he got from a bar had been tampered with due to racial reasons.

[ALAN WILSON]

Alan died just 2 weeks before Jimi. He was the front man for Canned Heat.

He died of an overdose in 1970.

[BRIAN JONES]

Brian was one of the founders of The Rolling Stones. He quickly became overshadowed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards which caused him to develop a drug addiction.

In 1969, just a month after leaving the group, Jones was found dead in his pool, suicide was believed but they called it an accidental drowning.

[FAT PAT]

Fat Pat was a rapper from Houston and a member of Screwed Up Click. He was murdered in 1998.

[KRISTEN PFAFF]

Kristen was the bass player for Hole and Janitor Joe. She was found dead in her apartment in 1994.

She died of a heroin overdose.

[SEAN MCCABE]

Sean was the singer of the bad Ink & Dagger.

In 2000 he passed out after drinking and choked on his own vomit.

[KIM JONGHYUN]

Kim was a popular K-pop idol and a vocalist of boy group SHINee. He committed suicide in an apartment studio.

He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

[JEREMY MICHAEL WARD]

Jeremy was a sound manipulator and and vocal operator for The Mars Volta and dub group De Facto.

Ward was found dead of a heroin overdose in 2003.

[MIA ZAPATA]

Mia was the singer of punk band The Gits.

On the morning of July 7, 1993, she had been beaten, raped, strangled and left dead on the streets of Seattle.

[JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT]

Jean was a musician and artist who died in 1988. He had tried to sober up but the struggle was too much.

Jean died of a heroine overdose. He died in a pool of his own vomit with bloody syringes in his bathroom.

[RICHEY EDWARDS]

This one is kinda iffy as he has never been found.

Richey was a writer and guitar player for the Manic Street Preachers.

He disappeared and has never been found but was presumed dead.

[FREDO SANTANA]

At the beginning of last year Fredo died due to a fatal seizure.

A singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose biggest fame was achieved with rock band Badfinger.

He hung himself just a few days before his 28th birthday.

     [JESSE BELVIN]

Jesse was an R&an singer known for songs like "Earth Angel" and "Goodnight My Love".

He fled a segregated dance hall in Little Rock in 1960. The car he was riding in was believed to have the tires tampered with, which caused the car to go out of control a collide with another car.

     [RUDY LEWIS]

The lead singer of the Drifters was found dead in a Harlem hotel room on May 21, 1964, the day the group was set to record "Under the Boardwalk". Though no official autopsy was performed, Rudy Lewis is believed to have died of a drug overdose.

     [D. BOON]

D. Boon, the singer and guitar player of punk band The Minutemen, was killed in a van accident on December 22, 1985. Sick at the time of travel, Boon was lying in the back of the band's van when it went off the road, ejecting him from the back door. Boon died instantly from a broken neck.

     [JONATHAN BRANDIS]

Jonathan rose to fame with a role in One Life To Live and IT. But in 2013 he took his own life by hanging himself.

     [ANTON YELCHIN]

Anton rose to fame after staring in Star Trek. Anton was found in 2016, stuck and pinned between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and a brick pillar outside his house in Studio City, California, in what was described as a "freak accident". As Yelchin got out of his car, the vehicle apparently rolled back down his driveway, which was on a steep incline, and trapped him against the pillar and a security fence. He died from injuries sustained during the accident later that day. The Los Angeles County coroner's office identified the cause of death as "blunt traumatic asphyxia" and stated that there were "no obvious suspicious circumstances involved".

     [AARON HERNANDEZ]

Aaron was a former tight end for the New England Patriots was on trial for a 2012 in murder but was acquitted in early 2017.

Days after his acquittal he was found dead in his cell hanging. It was ruled a suicide.

     [PATRICK TILLMAN]

Patrick was the safety for the Arizona Cardinals left his football career in 2002 and enlisted in the United States Army following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In 2004, while deployed in Afghanistan, it was reported that he was killed by enemy combatants. However, an investigation into his death revealed that he was killed under friendly fire.

     [REGGIE LEWIS]

Reggie was a Boston Celtics guard-forward who died after collapsing on the court due to a heart condition.
