Death of Tupac and Biggie part 2
Because the death of Tupac and Biggie happened just 6 months apart people automatically started assuming the two deaths were linked.
But not everyone thinks these two are related. In fact there are more theories about Tupac's murder than Biggies murder. So let's talk about some of the theories.
[ORLANDO ANDERSON - TUPAC]
The case was very slow in the investigation. In 2002 the LA Times published a two part story titled "Who Killed Tupac Shakur" by Chuck Phillips where he wrote the shooting of Tupac was carried out by an angry Crip gang member to avenge the beating of one of their members earlier that night by Tupac. Las Vegas police did interview Orlando but only once and very briefly.
Orlando is the most likely suspect for Tupac's murder and the one many believe did it. The odd thing about Orlando is he wasn't officially named a suspect for nearly a decade but at the time he was already dead.
[MICHAEL DURO - TUPAC]
Than there was Michael Duro who went by Hoot Hoot who was friends with Orlando. Orlando was murdered on May 29, 1998. On this day Michael confronted him and two other men at a car wash in Compton because Orlando and the other guys owed Michael money. This led into a confrontation which led to a gun being shot resulting in everyone's death except Michael's, he was the only survivor. Michael ended up getting convicted and had to serve a life sentence.
When investigators went to interview him in jail he said that Suge Knight hired crip gang members to kill Biggie.
The main reason the police were suspicious about this is that Suge Knight had no connecting to the Crips, he had connections to the Bloods. He wouldn't have paid a crip to do his bidding.
From there the police started monitoring Michaels calls and mail and during this time they discovered that Michael and his cousin were working on this huge plot. They were going to make a fake story of what happened and they basically hoped that it was believable enough that Michael would get rewarded by getting moved to a prison that was as secure.
[FBI - TUPAC]
Some people believe the FBI killed Tupac. The theory goes that the FBI were trying to lower the crime rate between the east coast gangs and the west coast gangs and killing Tupac was their way of doing it.
To me that doesn't make sense. I'm sure there is another FBI theory but this was the only one that I could find.
[SUGE KNIGHT & CORRUPT COPS - BIGGIE]
The lead investigator for Biggies case was a man named Stephen Katz. However Stephen didn't last very long on the case. He made huge mistakes which we will come back to later.
Biggies case than went to a detective named Russel Poole. Poole helped work on a book about Tupac and Biggie where he said he believed there were corrupt LA police officers working really closely to Death Row Records and there is actually proof to help back this up.
Poole stated that he believed Suge Knight was hiring police officers in order to kill people who got in his way, more specifically Biggie.
He named David Mack and Amir Muhammad as the ones who killed Biggie.
One of the biggest mistakes the first lead investigator made was not doing any type of test on David's impala, which of you remember the killers of Biggie were driving an impala. He did interview David but never checked his car. He never even questioned Amir.
Another thing is Stephen "forgot" to turn over 200 pages of documents when it came time for the case to be transferred to Poole.
Poole went to the rest of the police department to present his theory. That's when his supervisors shut him down. Eventually Poole was kicked off the case for even suggesting that David and Amir killed Biggie and that Stephen was covering it up.
This is when Poole started working with Randall Sullivan, the author of Labyrith. They worked closely to try to piece together what happened with Tupac and Biggie.
After the book came out the theory about the police killing Biggie was spread and widely believed.
In 2006 a task force was put together to try to solve this case. The first thing this task force had to do was go through 92 binders of case files. The task force got federal people involved. This basically meant that this task force was now above the LAPD so they didn't have to worry about them. That's when they started looking more into Pooles theory.
Pooles theory came from two major events.
March 19, 1997 in LA an off duty officer Kevin Gaines was shot by an undercover LAPD officer in a road rage incident.
Now Poole was the investigator of this case and when he looked into Kevin's life he found out a lot of bizarre things. Gaines was strongly connected to Suge Knight and Death Row Records. Gaines was having an affair with Suge Knights wife at the time of his murder. Gaines also frequented a steak house where Death Row gang members were known to hang out.
The second event was a bank robbery committed by the LAPD Officer David Mack in December of 1997. David was arrested for robbing a bank near the USC campus. He was able to steal only $272,000.
When they investigated his home they found a makeshift shrine to Tupac. He also drove a black Chevy impala.
David was also believed to be a Blood.
Even though a lot of evidence points to this being true the FBI shut this theory down, saying David had nothing to do with Christophers death.
The FBI did admit that when they searched his house they found gecko ammunition which was the same type of ammunition that killed Christopher.
But they still didn't consider him a suspect.
So we know why Poole thought David killed Biggie but what about Amir.
Well, weeks after Christopher's death an inmate named Michael Robinson. In a letter he said Biggies killer is either named "Kenny, Keeky, Abraham, or Amir." While David was in custody he would have visitors and the most common visitor signed himself as Amir Muhammad. This made Poole believe this Amir is the same Amir that inmate Michael was talking about. Amir did use a fake social security number when he signed in but he used his real drivers licenses number, real address and real name.
Now this made the task force eliminate Amir as a suspect because they think he would have also did a fake name, number and address if he was truly guilty.
[GUN SHOT AT PARTY - BIGGIE]
Remember when I said that there was a gun shot at the party Biggie attended before his death and it was a way to make Biggie leave? Well now I'm going to elaborate on that.
The guy who shot the gun said that he had dropped it on the floor and wasn't sure if it still worked so he pointed it towards the sky and shot a few times to make sure it still worked.
People found that suspicious considering the fact you are in a crowded area, why would you just randomly shoot the gun to make sure it works?
Not only that but people noticed that the same person who shot the gun at the party arrived at the murder scene just moments later, which made people even more suspicious.
That is why people believe the gun shot at the party was just a diversion to get Christopher to leave the party.
This mystery man was ruled out as a suspect with the police saying "he was just there."
[COREY EDWARDS - BOTH]
Corey was a Crip and was in Las Vegas when Tupac died. Corey was also at the same party that Biggie was at the night of his death.
The fact he was at both locations made investigators want to look more into him but they had a hard time getting him as he had been on the run for over 5 years. They finally found him and arrested him.
Corey refused to corporate in the investigation. They offered him a deal, drop the drug charges for information about the murders. He ended up taking the drug charges.
[DWAYNE KEYES AND P DIDDY - TUPAC]
Dwayne was a pretty high up Crip member. He was known as the shot-caller because he made most of the decisions when it came to dirty work, such as killing people.
Dwayne was also Orlando's uncle.
Dwayne was in Las Vegas when Tupac was shot and attended the same party Biggie was at before he died.
Days after Tupac's death rumors circulated at a party Sean told people he wanted Tupac's head and would pay a million dollars to whoever could do it.
The police gave Dwayne an ultimatum, help with the investigation or sown life in prison. He choose to help.
He revealed that on the night Biggie died he and Sean went to a basketball game. There Sean invited him to go to this party, which is why he was at the party as well.
He admitted he had heard Sean say previously he would pay 1 million for someone to kill Tupac and then went on to say that the day of Tupac's murder, Orlando and two of his friends drove out to see him in a white Cadillac.
He said the moment Tupac attacked Orlando, Orlando planned an immediate retaliation. They said it was the perfect night to take care of Tupac like Sean wanted.
According to him, Orlando is the one who shot Tupac.
The theory that Sean put the hit out on Tupac is a very widely known and believed theory. In Eminem's diss track about Machine Gun Kelly "Killshot" he says the line,
The day you put out a hits the day Diddy admits that he put the hit out that got 'Pac killed.
[SUMMARY]
To simplify all of this, basically the most well believed theory goes like this,
Sean put out a hit on Tupac. This could be to get back at Suge because of their hatred for one another but it could have been for another reason as well. Tupac attacked Orlando at the MGM building and Orlando decided to retaliate and take Sean up on his offer, tracking Tupac down and killing him. Even if Sean didn't put out a hit people think Tupac's fate was sealed the moment he attacked Orlando.
When Sean and Biggie went to a party a diversion was made to get him to leave. Suge hired corrupt police officers who worked under his payroll to kill Biggie as a way to get back at Sean for killing Tupac.
From their the police tried their best to cover it all up.
[THOUGHTS]
Are there any theories I missed? Please don't bring up the one about Tupac being alive. I didn't put that for a reason. Celebrities faking their own deaths will be in a chapter all on its own)
What do you really think happened those nights and who killed them?
Do you think these cases will ever really be solved?
