Chapter 30: The Last

"Absence is to love as wind is to fire; It extinguishes the small and kindles the great.”

Chapter 30: The Last

Breaking News

“Kim Hanyeol, the former wife of Kim Tansuk, has been arrested for illegal drug use and for causing the bankruptcy of her former husband's company. Sources indicate that she has been under mental health evaluation after multiple reports of her engaging in erratic behavior, including fighting with a car and causing disturbances to people she encountered.”

Taehyung sat on the edge of the couch, his eyes fixed on the screen. The news hit him harder than he expected, though a part of him felt relief knowing that, despite the shocking events, his mother was still alive. He had never imagined this would happen, but it wasn’t the kind of revelation he wanted to deal with today.

Jin, standing behind him, was adjusting Taehyung's wedding suit. “Taehyung, you shouldn't watch the news right now. It’s your wedding day. Don’t let it ruin the mood,” Jin advised gently, carefully straightening the fabric of Taehyung’s tailored suit.

“It’s okay, hyung,” Taehyung muttered, his gaze still distant. “I just didn’t expect this. I mean, she’s a smart woman, but I never thought she’d fall this far.”

Jin sighed, placing a hand on Taehyung's shoulder. “She’s a genius, but sometimes people make choices that don’t align with their intelligence. Let’s not think about her today. Today is about you, and you have to stay gorgeous for your wedding. Plus, I’ve got a strawberry cake waiting for you,” he added with a teasing smile.

Taehyung chuckled, the tension in his shoulders easing as Jin finished dressing him. His suit was a masterpiece—a deep midnight blue with subtle silver thread woven through it, creating a shimmering effect when it caught the light. The jacket was tailored to perfection, fitting snugly across his broad shoulders and tapering down to his waist, while the trousers draped elegantly over his shoes. The soft sheen of his silk shirt peeked from beneath the jacket, a contrast against the dark fabric. His hair was styled with just the right amount of volume, and the soft fragrance of his cologne lingered in the air.

The venue for the wedding was a grand hall, with high, arched ceilings and massive windows that allowed sunlight to pour in, casting soft beams across the floor. Crystal chandeliers hung overhead, their light reflecting off the polished marble floor. White roses, lilies, and peonies adorned every surface, their delicate fragrance filling the air, while gold accents gave the space a regal yet welcoming feel.

Taehyung stood nervously at the entrance, holding a small bouquet of white roses. The flowers were fresh, their petals soft and fragrant, symbolizing the purity and new beginning of his life with Jungkook. His heart raced, excitement and nerves mixing in a whirlwind. Standing beside him was his father, Kim Tansuk, who had been invited despite the strained relationship between them. He was wearing a black tuxedo, a silver tie, and a confident smile that did little to mask the slight nervousness he was feeling.

“Don’t be nervous, son,” Tansuk chuckled, his voice filled with warmth as he noticed the shaking hands of his son. “You’re going to be great.”

“I-I'm not nervous,” Taehyung stuttered, but his hands betrayed him, trembling slightly as he gripped the bouquet tighter.

“Yeah, that’s why your hands are shaking,” Tansuk teased, a playful grin on his face.

Taehyung sighed, his mind racing. “Do you think I’m ready for this? What if I do something embarrassing? What if I trip while walking down the aisle? What if I... fart?” His face flushed at the thought.

Tansuk chuckled softly, giving Taehyung’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “Son, calm down. You’re overthinking. You look amazing, and I’m right here beside you. You’ve got this, alright?”

Taehyung nodded, a small pout forming on his lips as he glanced up at his father. Tansuk smiled, brushing a stray lock of hair from Taehyung’s face.

The grand doors to the hall opened, and the soft sound of music filled the space. Taehyung took a deep breath, his nerves settling slightly as he grasped his father’s arm.

“Let’s go inside,” Tansuk said gently.

Together, they walked down the aisle, the soft sound of their footsteps echoing in the massive hall. The guests stood, their eyes on Taehyung, admiration and excitement reflected in their gazes. Taehyung felt the weight of their attention but also the warmth of their support.

As he walked, his eyes locked with Jungkook’s across the room. Jungkook stood at the altar, his eyes shining with love and anticipation. A huge smile spread across his face as he saw Taehyung approaching, his gaze filled with admiration and something deeper. The moment their eyes met, Taehyung’s nervousness melted away, replaced by a deep sense of belonging.

Suddenly, unable to contain his excitement, Taehyung ran toward Jungkook, his heart racing in his chest. The guests chuckled, and a few let out amused giggles at his eagerness. Taehyung’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but Jungkook simply laughed, his heart swelling with affection for the man who was about to become his husband.

When Taehyung reached him, Jungkook gently took his hands, his fingers warm against Taehyung’s trembling ones. They stood facing each other, the world seeming to fall away as they shared a quiet moment. The priest began the ceremony, but Taehyung couldn’t take his eyes off Jungkook.

Sensing his nerves, Jungkook gently ran his thumb over the back of Taehyung’s hand, offering a silent reassurance. Taehyung looked up at him, meeting his gaze, and Jungkook winked playfully. Taehyung couldn’t help but laugh, the sound light and full of happiness. He squeezed Jungkook’s hand, finding comfort in his touch.

“Jeon Jungkook, do you take Kim Taehyung to be your lawfully wedded husband?” the priest asked.

“I do,” Jungkook answered, his voice full of certainty and warmth, his smile never faltering as he gazed at Taehyung.

“Kim Taehyung, do you take Jeon Jungkook to be your lawfully wedded husband?” the priest asked, turning to Taehyung.

“I do,” Taehyung whispered, his voice a little shaky, but filled with the same certainty. He chewed on his bottom lip, a small blush creeping across his face.

The priest smiled warmly. “Now, let’s hear your vows.”

Jungkook took a deep breath and began. “Taehyung, from the moment I met you, I knew you were someone special. I vow to stand by you through every high and every low, to laugh with you in moments of joy and comfort you in moments of sorrow. I promise to be your biggest supporter, your safe place, and your home. I will love you, cherish you, and honor you for all the days of my life.”

Taehyung’s heart swelled as he listened, his eyes misting over. He squeezed Jungkook’s hands, feeling overwhelmed with love.

When it was his turn, Taehyung smiled softly and said, “Jungkook, you are my heart, my rock, and my everything. I vow to be there for you in every way I can, to be your partner in every sense of the word. I promise to grow with you, to support you in every dream you chase, and to love you fiercely, with all that I am, for as long as we both shall live.”

The priest nodded, his voice filled with emotion. “You may now exchange rings as a symbol of your love.”

Jungkook slid the ring onto Taehyung’s finger, a soft kiss following as he pressed his lips to the spot where the ring rested. Taehyung did the same, his hands trembling slightly as he placed the ring on Jungkook’s finger, his gaze lingering on his face, the warmth in his heart overwhelming.

The priest smiled, his voice filled with joy. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you lawfully married. You may kiss your husband.”

Jungkook didn’t hesitate. He surged forward, his lips capturing Taehyung’s in a kiss that was both tender and passionate. At first, Taehyung hesitated, caught off guard by the suddenness of it, but then his lips began to move against Jungkook’s, slow and familiar, as though they had kissed a thousand times before. The warmth of Jungkook’s lips was intoxicating, and Taehyung melted into the kiss, his body pressing closer to Jungkook’s.

Jungkook deepened the kiss, his hands cupping Taehyung’s face, pulling him even closer. Taehyung responded eagerly, his hands finding their way to Jungkook’s hair, tugging him closer as their tongues tangled in a perfect rhythm. The kiss was electric, each moment more intense than the last. Taehyung’s heart pounded in his chest, and he felt as if he were floating, lost in the sensation of being with Jungkook.

When they finally pulled apart, both were breathless, their faces flushed with desire and love. The crowd erupted into applause, their cheers filling the hall. Taehyung, feeling overwhelmed, buried his face in Jungkook’s shoulder, his arms wrapping around him in a tight hug.

Jungkook held him close, his hand gently stroking Taehyung’s back as they exchanged soft “I love you’s.” In that moment, nothing else mattered. The world outside could have been falling apart, but in their arms, they were perfect. Together, they had found their happiness.

The ceremony ended, but their love story was just beginning. With Jungkook by his side, Taehyung knew that they could face anything, together.
