O N E
As a child I went back and forth between my favorite colors. Green, yellow, orange, green, turquoise, green again. But now it was yellow again. Yellow like the sun, sunflowers, butterflies, positive things. It was a happy Color, brought good vibes. I wore it the day I moved into my dorm. My t-shirt was a soft yellow, a little faded. An old volleyball t-shirt from my club days. I was no longer playing, I hadn't wanted the work of playing in college. My shorts were plain black and white nike shorts. There wasn't anybody to impress I assumed, I was just moving in and figured since it was sort of early, few people would be there.
But of course I was wrong.
I was also right, there were few people.
But they were people I should try to impress
They weren't my roommates. No they'd be moving in the next couple of days. They were just your typical good looking guys. There were only three of them. But it was hot outside so two of the three had their shirts off. Let's just say they were nice to look at...a little too nice. It was so distracting but God swooped in and managed to keep me from tripping as I passed them. I kept my head turned away from them most of the time, only sparing a glance once making eye contact with a pair of steely grey eyes.
Then I looked away, continuing to walk down the hallway with my mother. My father was back trying to get the heavier things to move. "Well aren't they something to look at." My mother inappropriately commented, causing me to cringe as I threw open the door.
"Mom, shut up. That's so gross." I had no intentions of talking to her about cute guys. I saved that one for my best friends and occasionally my older brother. He was bisexual (closeted to my parents) but I supported him and talked to him all the time about guys.
My mom just smiled and shook her head. "You've always been too smart for your own good Lex, don't ruin it for a guy." She set both boxes she was holding down, on the floor in the middle of the room.
Yes that's me, Lex, Lexie, Lexipedia. Whatever you want to call me. My name's Alexis Dalton, I just turned 18. I got the Lexipedia nickname from my best friend. We were and still are obsessed with Grey's Anatomy and she said Lexie Grey reminded her of me. She's not the only one who calls me Lexipedia back home in Stanley, North Carolina. The nickname kind of stuck. By the time I graduated high school, I was known in at least half of my classes as Lexipedia.
Now was my time to get away from the nickname, not that it bothered me that much. I've always been hard to offend. Mainly because I try to tune out what people say.
Your mom isn't someone you can necessarily tune out though.
Even if what she said was true, that I was too smart to waste everything on a guy, it wasn't something I wanted to hear from her. So I didn't really answer. Instead I just focused on unpacking.
In an hour we had everything in my room and about half of it unpacked. That was it. And then it was goodbye to my parents and hello to my college experience.
My mom started getting choked up as she said goodbye so she didn't say much. But my dad did give me one good piece of advice before their departure.
Leaning in for a hug, he spoke in my ear, holding me tight. "Don't do what they expect you to do. Do what you want to do. Defy their expectations Lex. Be unique, be different, be yourself, just don't be predictable."
With that he left, not knowing how badly I would twist his words. I would defy everyone's expectations, do something unpredictable, do exactly what I wanted too. But it would all be awful and completely backfire on me.

My roommates arrived the next two days. I had three of them. Anaya Annoche showed up the day after I moved in. Of Cherokee descent, she's honestly gorgeous. Tall and thin, with long brown hair, chocolate brown eyes, and tan skin. A couple of years ago she said she was like Bambi, completely awkward as she grew into her body. But now she's tall and confident. Apparently she has a boyfriend, who goes to college in New York so they're trying to make it work. His name's Joseph Ballard and the two of them are both from Chicago. So big city people. Anaya comes off quiet, but she's actually really funny and her laugh seems to light up a room.
A day after Anaya moved in, the two other girls moved in. Bailey Nepsa was there in the morning. Standing at 5'2, with straight red hair, pale skin, and big brown eyes, she's rather calm and chill. Literally down to do anything, Bailey is a pretty go-lucky person. She said she moved from Gearing, Nebraska which is apparently a very small town practically in the middle of nowhere. But they do have a zoo, and Bailey told me she's an animal person. Which if you ever walked into her room, was very evident by her many pictures of her holding different animals.
Later in the afternoon after Bailey arrived, our final roommate showed up. Abigail Delgado. She's latina having been born in Cuba. Her hair is dark brown with blonde highlights and she has green eyes, with light freckles splattered across her nose. Abigail's about my height, give or take an inch. She's not skinny or heavy, just average. But she's fairly curvy especially compared to Anaya and I. Abby lived the majority of her life in San Francisco but she said she actually recently moved to Tennessee (her mother's in the military). We almost immediately clicked, the girl oddly similar to me but yet so different.
Now as for me, appearance wise I'm pretty basic. I have the blonde hair and blue eyes people are so jealous of. But there's nothing special about my hair. My eyes are cool I suppose. They match the ocean but I think brown eyes are just as pretty contrary to some people's opinions. As for height, I'm 5'5 and weigh 116 pounds. People say that's light but I have really good genes when it comes to fast-working metabolism. I'm pretty average when it comes to curves. I mean I have a nice ass due to squats from volleyball and working at the gym. But my boobs are below average. But smaller makes life easier so I've come to embrace it.
The first night we were all together, we decided to get to know each other by playing a friendly game of never have I ever. So we ordered a pizza in and sat in Abigail and I's room which connected to a small common room type thing that hardly had anything. The most important things there, were the microwave, small couch, and mini fridge. The common room had another door which led to the room Bailey and Anaya were sharing.
"So never have I ever cheated on my boyfriend, or girlfriend." Abigail started off, her eyes glinting with mischief as she glanced around the circle. Nobody's fingers moved for a second before Bailey put down a finger. Before anyone could say anything bad about it, she defended herself.
"He cheated on me first. I'm not even sure we were dating at that point! Besides I just kissed someone, he had sex." Bailey's cheeks were red as her hair as she looked around the circle, waiting for someone to disagree with her.
Anaya gave her a sympathetic look, shaking her head with a smile. "Still counts." Holding up her ten fingers, her nose scrunched up as she tried to think of something to say. "Oh! Never have I ever kissed a girl."
Bailey groaned loudly as she put another finger down, Abigail staying silent as she put down a finger as well. "I'm gonna lose." Bailey whined, not bothering to explain this one. Bailey wasn't straight but she didn't say anything on the matter knowing that some people were particularly touchy on that subject. Especially because she knew she'd be living with these girls and she didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable.
Apparently Abigail had done it as well and nobody missed that, but she didn't say anything on the matter asking another question. "Never have I ever kissed two guys on the same day." Anaya put down a finger, giving them all a sly grin.
"It was at a party." She explained briefly before looking at me.
Now I felt weird because I was the only one who hadn't done any of this stuff. I'd just always been so focused on schoolwork. But as my dad said, be myself. "Never have I ever been tied or handcuffed during sex."
This was a good question and my grin grew as I saw both Abigail and Anaya put down a finger.
"Never have I ever had sex, period." Bailey admitted sheepishly, causing me to finally put a finger down. We all of course gasped and then actually stopped playing the game to explain our first times. None were as magical as people wish their first time would be. Mine was in a car so it definitely wasn't magical. Anaya apparently had it with her current boyfriend, but they were both so inexperienced it was kind of awkward. And Abigail said her first time was too painful to be enjoyable.
A big friendship began then between the four of us. But that's not the only thing that began that night. Sure for awhile us girls talked and laughed and ate. But eventually Anaya and Bailey went off to their own beds. Abigail and I were alone in the room, wide awake. So a game of truth or dare was in order.
Her eyes glinted mischievously as she flicked on the lamp to light up our dark room once the other two girls were gone. "Truth or dare?"
"Truth?" I asked, not because I was afraid of the dare she'd give me but because I was laying on my bed and didn't feel like moving.
Abigail wasn't too happy with my choice but she made it work. Twisting a typical boring truth into a much better question. "What's the hottest kink a guy can have?" She watched my cheeks flush pink under the light of the lamp and I watched her face break out in a grin. "You know Lexie, like do you like it when a guys into bondage? Or whipp-"
"I got, I got it." I quickly interrupted her not needing to hear anymore of what she said. Besides I already knew my answer which made me insanely glad the other girls were gone. I didn't need this to be common knowledge among our dorm the first night we arrived. "I think...maybe um a daddy kink?" I tried to play it off casually as if I wasn't sure, but I was. Though I'd never experimented with it, it sounded hot if used right. And was definitely something I wanted to try.
Abigail stared at me for a second, before bursting out laughing, tears forming in her green eyes in a matter of seconds. "What?!" I demanded, wondering what had her laughing so hard. My cheeks burned darker, almost scarlett by this point with embarrassment. The kink wasn't that funny, she had to be laughing at something else...right?
"Oh my god- it just suits you so much." She laughed, rolling over on her bed, back and forth. "I've known you for what? A few hours and already that's so accurate." She snorted banging her head on the pillow a few times before calming down. "I choose dare by the way."
My eyes narrowed as I stared at her, trying to think up something to get back at her. I didn't know what she meant by it suited me, but I was going to try to leave it alone. "Fine. I dare you to go into the other girl's room and suck one of their toes without trying to wake them up."
The dare was dumb but nasty and I sure as hell didn't want to do it. Abigail grimaced but begrudgingly got out of bed. She was in Adidas sweatpants and a light pink breast cancer awareness t-shirt. Her hair was in a messy bun, yet she still pulled it off flawlessly. "You're on Dalton. Be ready for what comes next and don't choose truth again, you wimp." She flashed me a grin afterwards to show that she wasn't being mean, but she was also still dead serious.
Abigail tried to get her dare done as quickly as possible, sneaking into their room and sucking on Anaya's toe for half a second, stumbling out the door and falling over from laughing so hard when she got out. I was already on the floor laughing so hard from her attempts to complete the dare without laughing. How we had so easily clicked as friends was a wonder but we were girls who loved to laugh and she had a similar sense of humor I suppose.
Once we finally calmed down she asked me again if I'd choose truth or dare. This time I did choose dare. Now that I was out of bed, I might as well. They were always more fun and I figured it wouldn't be too bad.
Except I underestimated her.
"I dare you to go knock on doors until someone opens, and then pretend to drunkenly ask for sex." My blue eyes went as wide as saucers, unsure exactly what to think of this. It was funny, sure, but not for me who was doing it. These were our neighbors and I was burning relationships with them already.
"You are screwed up in the head." I shook my head at Abigail taking a deep breath before heading out in the hallway. It was slightly cold, due to my choice of clothing apparel. While Abby was in her nice sweatpants, I was in navy blue spandex and a light grey t-shirt from my high school volleyball team. My blonde hair was down and loose, and I nervously ran a hand through it as I knocked on a door. It was 2am, nobody answered.
I moved down the hallway and knocked on a new door. Again, nobody answered. I knocked on the one right across from it. No one. Then I knocked on the one next to it. I could hear shuffling from the other side of it and I nervously glanced to Abigail who was standing in our doorway, peeking around it so she could see me. She gave me a thumbs up right before the door opened. I quickly turned, ready to act this stupid thing out and get it over with. But I froze.
My eyes met with those steely grey eyes they'd locked on a couple days ago. The owner of them was probably a 6'2, muscular guy with messy dark brown hair. He was hot. Let's not forget that he was wearing no shirt so I got to appreciate his abs. I forgot what I was even doing there in the first place, his voice the only thing that snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Uh hello? Are you Matt's girl?" His eyes seemed to roam down my body as I stared at him. He seemed fully aware that I knew he was checking me out but then he didn't seem to care.
I tried to focus back on my dare, ignoring the fact that I was completely embarrassing myself. "W-who's...Matt?" I slurred my words, pretending to reach out and grab onto the doorway, but making my hand slip, causing myself to "almost fall over." I was planning on catching myself, but instead two hands gripped onto my hips helping me straighten up.
I swallowed thickly and continued before he could say anything. "I- I want—want sex." I mumbled taking a step towards him, my eyes slowly dragging up his body to study his face. Now I felt like laughing because I swear I could hear Abigail's quiet snickering from in the hallway.
Rather than refusing to meet my gaze, the man boldly did. He too decided to study my face while I studied his. But without warning, he suddenly asked a question that completely threw me off. "Is that your friend down the hallway?"
My eyes widened giving away my secret. His hands on my hips weirdly seemed to tighten as he realized I was lying to him. Before he could say anything, I burst out laughing unable to hold it in anymore. Abigail burst out laughing too and I quickly tore away from the man and ran down to our room.
We cackled as we fell through the door, collapsing on the floor again in fits of laughter. I'm pretty sure we woke up at least one of the girls that night but it didn't matter to us. It was a good first night together and we enjoyed each other. A friendship was way better than any rivalry.
Shortly after, we actually went to bed surprisingly. Mainly because I had a class at 10am and it was already like 3:30 am. I wanted a decent amount of sleep. I could've gotten more, but it worked well enough.
The man I met, that was Ashton Wren as I'd come to learn later. He was a sophomore. And he was the most important man in the next two years of my life.
