(Y/n's POV)
Sitting on the ground in complete darkness I contemplated on my life. Wondering if I was doing the right thing here. Sighing in frustration I stuffed my teddy bear in my bag and tried to feel my way around any light source. I felt something light and about the size of my hand and picked it up. Touching the object around I found out it was a tiny flashlight. I pressed what felt like a button and a bright light reflected off the walls surrounding me. I went to the door.
Locked
Dang. I looked around trying to find anything that could help me or keep my mind occupied until Emilia gets back. Ohh, what are these?
(15 minutes later)
The door suddenly opened with Emilia on the other end looking down as she saw me fiddling with what looks to be a multi-colored cube. I was really invested on wanting to match all the colors on one side. "Get up, (y/n). I found you a place to stay in." She motioned me to follow her as I got up from floor kept the cube in my bag for possible entertainment later on. Walking and climbing stairs we got higher above the ground. Gazing down over the ledge I became curious to who I was I gonna live with. "So, Emilia. Who am I staying with?" Without looking back she answered. "You'll be staying with Mrs. Potts. She's part of the Agricultural Production station we have set here. If she'll allow, you can help with growing plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers and if you're lucky...you get to care for our small domestic farm animals we have here. Or you can simply find other things to keep you busy while you're here. We have combat training classes, school can be provided. All in all you would have something to do. I did say you'd get everything you needed here...did I not?" She glanced back at me. "You did..." She stopped right in front a door that had a plated name on the left side that said 'Potts'. I stood next to her as she then was about to give me a spare keycard until she held it back. "DON'T. And I repeat. Do not lose this keycard. Making new ones take a lot of time and effort and I don't want to have to be responsible because of your lack of responsibility. You understand me?" I nodded. "Don't forget about your end of the deal, (y/n). If you can manage that then we'll get along just fine~" She then handed me the card and began to walk up the stairs. But before I could say anything she replied to my unanswered question. "I already told Mrs. Potts about you. She'll see to it that you get settled. Now if you'll excuse me, I have world that needs to be cleansed...."
I shudder at the last thing she said. She can be scary yet intimidating at the same time. I look to the other doors and see their names also plated.
These must be my neighbors!
On my left I read the plate say 'Pullman' and on my right say 'Oak'. Huh. Interesting names they have. I placed the card on what looks to be a scanner of some sorts and heard a beep making the door slide open. I carefully made my way inside could see the entire apartment is small but neat. "Why hello, dear! Glad to see you made here in one piece." Sitting in what appears to be the living room did I see an elder stand up and made her way to me. Like everyone else she also wore that uniform but her zipper line was a light pink and so were her cuffs on her wrists. She had a messy white bun and had golden trimmed glasses that were shaped like circles. She had such a welcoming smile that I almost forgot why I was brought here in the first place. "You must be (y/n), yes?" I gave her a nod. "She came up closer to me and moved a strand of hair from my face. "Such a beauty you are! And what lovely hair you have! Almost makes me want to go back to my younger days oohoohohoo!" I chuckled, grabbing her hand to shake. "Thank you, Mrs. Potts for letting me stay here with you. It really means a lot to me and I'll be sure to help you in anyway I can!" She thanked me and was about to talk to me more until she noticed the time on her clock. "Oh, goodness me. I'm nearly late!" She got her bag that had a cute little plant on it and set it down next to her. "Now (y/n), I am told you need a uniform and some essentials you might want. Can you tell me what size you are?" I told her the size. "Very good! Now is there a particular color you'd like have on there? Like mine here, I wanted pink." Hmm. I thought in my mind for a second and finally came up with "(color)". She smiled at me beaming in joy. "Wonderful! So I'll be back in a few hours and get you your uniform and a few other things we'll need. In the meantime you can get familiarized with everything here and feel free to snack on anything you find in the fridge, ok? I'll bring more groceries later. Take care, dear!"
Wow
She's so nice..
And her apartment smells like apple cinnamon!
By placing all my things down on the table I followed her words and start getting to know where everything is. First thing I noticed when I walked in was that the little kitchen is on my left. The big space in the middle is the living room with a sofa. Next to the kitchen that's also on the left is a...bed I presume? The two doors on the right side from where I entered could possibly be a bathroom and a washroom? Anyways , feeling at home already I jumped on the bed which was surprisingly soft and bouncy and began to slowly drift off into sleep. Obviously tired from the many events that had happened in the last few hours and I needed a good rest.
(5 hours later)
I woke up to the sound of a door opening and saw Mrs. Potts come in with a handful of bags. I got up quickly and went to take some of the bags off her hands and carefully placed them on the kitchen counter. "Oh, thank you dear. I hope you had a good rest?" "I did, Mrs. Potts! Is all of this groceries?" "And other necessities but I'll let you take care of it later." She takes a peculiar looking bag and takes a piece of clothing out that's folded neatly. "Here's your uniform, (y/n). I picked (color) just like you wanted. Try it on, dear!" She handed it to me which I took and made my way to the bathroom. "Thanks, Mrs. Potts!" I yelled back and headed into the bathroom.
(After a quick change~)
Once I finished putting my clothes on I went back out to show Mrs. Potts and boy did she love it. Nothing but praises and compliments but it's not like I didn't mind either. I enjoyed it too. "Ah, (y/n) you have a great physique! If I didn't know better I'd mistaken you for a princess!" We both laughed as I turned myself around to show her how it fitted so well. "Of course, a princess can't be a princess if she doesn't know how to sing and dance!" I rubbed the back of my head embarrassed about what I'm about to say. "Uh...actually, Mrs. Potts, I CAN do those things. Mom used to teach me dance lessons and dad had me practice my vocals." Hearing this, Mrs. Potts came up to me and gave me a loving hug to which I couldn't resist hugging back. She spoke in a quiet manner holding me close. "I've always wanted to raise a little princess of my own.." I could hear a hint of sadness in her voice. "You see...I-I...I'm not able to have children...so if I'm being too much trouble just let me know ok, dear?" I couldn't hold back the tears as I embraced her more. "It's ok, Mrs Potts....you're not trouble at all." She then let me go and held both my hands. "I also heard you lost your parents to mutes...that must be rough, dear."
Oh, Mrs Potts...
I wish I could tell her how they really died
But I can't...
I just smiled and wiped the tear stains from my cheeks. "It's fine, really! The past is the past and all we can do is move forward." "You're right right there, dear." We let go of each other and finished unpacking all the groceries Mrs Potts placed her hands on her hips. "Now, how bout I make my famous toscana soup for us, yea?" I clapped excitedly. Maybe this won't be so bad after all.
(Six months later)
Life's been good here in the burrows. I am now officially Mrs Potts's 'Forever Princess', we became family and I've been helping her with her job every weekday learning so many new things about how to plant and grow food, how to tell which plants are good or bad. Speaking of family I've been getting to know our neighbors, the Oaks. Lio and Song are there names. They are such a cute couple those two. They remind me so much of my parents it's very sweet. On the weekends I practice my other hobbies I took an interest in like singing lessons along with guitar lessons from my man Lio(who knew he could rock out like that!), dance lessons which I practice by myself, and then combat fighting which I sometimes practice with this odd guy named Zane but I'm not judging. I mostly train with Emilia whenever she's not busy but it's only because I want to be able to defend myself whenever I get the chance to get out of this place.
And most likely because I want to vent out my frustrations on Emilia for all the things she's done
I often think about telling the people down here how mutes really are, or what they can be. I wonder though if there are willing to listen or not. I just wish for there to be some who'd consider making peace with mutes instead of despising them all. I know that Lio and Song have been working alongside Emilia on testing animals on the cause of the mutation and they seem like good people. I wonder if maybe they'll want to listen to my reasoning...I have seen them seclude themselves from everyone else these past few weeks. But that could anything. I got up from the sofa and went into the kitchen and started making breakfast for me and Susie(aka Mrs Potts) who was sleeping soundly on her bed. Did I mention I happen to become a great cook too? Moments later Susie woke up to the sweet smell of bacon aroma and sat up from the bed. "Oh, my. (Y/n), is that bacon I smell?" I nodded eagerly. "Yup! And also eggs, hash browns and pancakes!" "Sounds delicious!" She sat down and we talked while we ate. After we cleaned up and put up the food Susie decided to bring up something. "Oh, (y/n) did you hear? I heard Lio and Song have been experimenting with a new animal that still hasn't been mutated yet!" Finishing up the dishes I dried my hands on a towel. "Is that so?" Susie nodded excitedly. "And guess what it is?? It's a cute baby mandrill!" I gasped dramatically staring right at her. "Did. You. Say. A. BABY!??!?" She replied with a yes and I began squealing like a fangirl. I'm a sucker for cute, adorable things.
But like, c'mon WHO ISN'T!?
I grabbed my teddy bear from the shelf and hugged it. "Oh Susie, I wanna meet the lil guy! Or girl!" Susie chuckled at my plea and shook her hand. "I can assure you the mandrill is a boy. But I think I can work something out. Anyway, I have a meeting to attend to right now but I'll be sure to check in with the Oaks after, alright? It might take a few days before they can make an arrangement." I shook my head. "That's fine, Susie! I'll find something to do within the time. Bye!!" "Bye, dear!" Left alone and in silence I look down at my bear staring at him.
"Ya know what, Liam? I feel like a welcoming present is totally suited for this kind of situation!" I raised my bear up and shook his body, mimicking the sound of Liam's voice from the bear. "That's sounds like a great idea, sis! But what kind of gift should you make?" I stopped what I was doing and looked around.
Hmmmm...
What should I make for the lil guy?
I then snapped my head towards the closet and dashed my way over there. Scrummaging through junk after junk until I picked up the heavy sewing machine. "Geez, this thing weighs a ton!" Setting it down on the counter I then went back to the closet and pulled out all different kinds of cloths and accessories.
It's a good thing Susie gave me some sewing lessons!
But what would a kid like..?
Not noticing a book of astronomy fall off the top shelf I screamed in surprise. I knelt down to pick it up but saw on one of the pages was a beautiful night sky with a bunch of stars. I picked up the book closing it, having a realization brought to me. "I got it!" I placed the book back on the shelf and picked up a dark blue and yellow cloth and set it all on the counter. Excitement filling my eyes as I grabbed a needle, scissors and thread.
I really hope he likes this..
Well..
Time to get started!
(That's it for chapter five! We getting close to our lil mandrill!!! GAH I'm so excited that we're FINALLY PROGRESSING with what the story's supposed to be about! Sorry for the long wait but it'll all be worth it I promise!)
