Prologue - Know your place
Growing up, 5-year-old Kudo Shinichi always hated gatherings.
He could recall the first birthday party he had last year, man, that was a total disaster.
When he was about three years old, around December, before he started kindergarten and met Ran and Sonoko, his grandparents expressed worry that he wasn't making friends with other kids his age. Before his parents opted to work abroad, they always allowed him to attend formal gatherings hosted by his grandparents while they talked with other parents. It's no surprise that the family had to be present to advocate a family merger because the Kudo patriarch and matriarch played such an important role in high society.
That year was no different, as Shinichi is about to turn 4, it was in the Kudo family tradition to throw him a decent birthday party.
As it was his first birthday celebration, he could recall it in great detail. His birthdate, May 4th, the kids there, and the celebration were all seared in the back of his mind, a dreadful memory he prayed he could forget. Despite the fact that it was his birthday, the kids were cruel to him. Both the ones his mother invited from his entire kindergarten, to the ones from high society.
Things took a turn for the worst when his grandparents invited a young man he didn't like having around, one within the family.
Kudo Shinichi greatly detested him, he was very uncomfortable about his behavior and all of that.
If Shinichi wasn't educated in advance, he swore he would've become his victim and be traumatized for life. Very inappropriate remarks would come out of his mouth when the adults were not watching, but Shinichi was clever enough to stand far away and not froze, not letting him do whatever he set out to do. Little Shinichi did whatever he could to flee from him, told his grandparents, his parents, nothing, no one believed him.
He had a reputation so clean and squeaky, even a spec of dust would be overlook.
Shinichi knew time was running out for him, if he doesn't have this man gone out of his sight, he would ultimately become his victim.
Which is why Shinichi knew he had to come up with one way to get rid of this man before he could lay a finger onto him, let alone, work on whatever delusional thinking he had plans to harm him. It wasn't easy to bring this man down at that time as he was too young to come up with something that would convince the adults he is a bad man, but then opportunity arrived to his doorstep when he suddenly remembered his dreaded 1st ever birthday party was coming.
Now Shinichi had a obnoxious reputation.
Because he was ahead of his peers in terms of intelligence, his parents were praised by other parents for having a son so well-behaved and studious, a total contrast to their overly-pampered children who would rather play video games all day and watch tv, with no goal in sight. The same it was for the kids of nobles, they hated him to no end. Adding salt was that Shinichi's family ain't born from nobility, more like commoners despite their wealth, so being compared to someone of lower status irked the noble kids here.
Since his haters his age back in kindergarten took full advantage and painted him as someone full of arrogance and wealth, that he will never mingle well among them, Shinichi knew why not use this opportunity to strike several birds with one stone?
To build everything leading up to this splendid fallout, it took a lot of reading and research. And by the time he did, it worked brilliantly.
So brilliantly in fact, that man was no longer in the picture and was send to prison for good, while the lives of many children were ruined so cruelly, he was glad he was finally alone and no longer had to deal with them. It was at this point in life, his arrogance went up a bit, thinking he is the smartest in the Kudo family. That no one will ever take his spot, and that books are his friends.
Well, that was until he met 'her'.
After he voiced out not wanting it following his disastrous 4th birthday party, his parents agreed not to throw him another one.
However, his grandparents wasn't going to let things be.
They opted to arrange Shinichi, who was already in kindergarten, to attend an event rather than arranging an event or celebration centred on Shinichi since they believe he is far too odd for a little boy his age due to his high intelligence, his unusual behaviour towards not wanting to play video games or watch cartoons, and they were certain he would be ridiculed by the time he reaches elementary school should they not do something about it. Shinichi wasn't completely opposed to the event because he enjoyed being there, for he felt like a king, having won so many competitions in a row.
The Teitan Elementary Parkour is a sport for anyone to attend the annual parkour event, a great opportunity to see some of the best parkour in the area, and to learn from the professionals. Every spring in Beikai District, this event draws kids of all ages around the neighbourhood to Beikai Mall, where it features some of the best athletes in the world, who take on challenging obstacle courses that are sure to leave them exhilarated.
For 5-year-old Shinichi, thanks to his mom showing him videos on how cool parkour is, he never once missed attending it. The first time he arrived here around the age of 3, he used to watch from afar as he was too young to do those moves. Now that he turned 5, he is already considered the best within his age group. Though he received awe from other boys, not all of them were happy with the fact he is receiving all of the attention.
That's right, including the new enemies he made after getting rid of the old ones in kindergarten.
Unlike the previous ones, the new ones were aggressive, intimidating, pettier and extremists.
Since they knew Shinichi come from a rich family, they downplayed his achievements. They learn that since they can't bully him knowing how powerful his grandparents are, so they did just that. It ain't 'bullying' in their dumb skull minds. Things got so bad, they even intimidated the other kids who were interested in befriending Shinichi to stay away from him or risk getting beaten up black and blue. The only ones who stuck to him thick and thin were Mouri Ran and Suzuki Sonoko, something he is still thankful for even to this day.
Now Shinichi didn't care of kids not being able to approach him, but it was difficult at that time when you only have two female friends playing nothing but dolls, drawing and deal with Sonoko's teasing on him and Ran ending up together in the future as husband and wife on a daily basis. Even more so when other kids keep staring at him like someone to stay away from, as if he was a convicted killer in their eyes.
And at that time, Shinichi has to admit, that although he felt like an outsider among the other boys as he didn't seem to fit in for not being tough enough, he never had the urge to compete and be as tough as them. To him, his happy times are burying his nose in any Sherlock Holmes or any murder mystery book he or his dad could get his hands on to read, not doing all those things the others deem of it as 'tough'.
However, though the phrase ticks and stones may break your bone, words can never hurt you' as his father mentioned in one of his novels, it's difficult when the same group continued to belittle Shinichi's efforts thanks to his privilege background. Sure, his parents praised him a lot, even Ran and Sonoko did despite them calling him 'arrogant', but it would've been nice if someone his age would tell him that his ability isn't blindly for entertainment purposes, let alone, can't help him make a living.
In Sherlock Holmes's novel, though it mentions the famous detective does receive it from his clients, in the modern world Shinichi is living in, though he is aware Ran's dad plans to open one, Ran's mom was against it as the cost of living is kinda high. With Shinichi's ability, though he is confident he can solve their cases for them, he ain't sure if his future client can afford to pay him enough to survive on day to day basis. In addition to that, Holmes also had Watson pay for the 221b apartment they both lived in together.
It was thanks to this, that the boys also think his dream of becoming a consultant detective sounded unrealistic to other kids because of those circumstances, especially in Japan of all places. Shinichi can pull together the funds through his family as they are rich, but it didn't mean he was going to heavily rely on them for life. As he was unable to answer, they mocked that it was an unachievable dream of a rich boy who never once suffered the way they did.
With a combination of his grandparents chastising that he wasn't good at making friends, adding to the boys calling him weakling as a boy as he too only had female friends, he ended up hanging out with the very boys who mocked him.
It wasn't that he succumbed to pressure from both sides, but getting nagged wasn't his ideal cup of tea for 5-year-old Shinichi at that time. So he acted out of character after reviewing the footage of his mother's early acting days, on the outside he is the obnoxious Shinichi who tries to blend in as a normal little boy, but on the inside, he is a secret detective nerd of a kid.
Though, he never completely hide his detective dream and love for it by all accounts. He still says it to the group, except to a bare minimum. It was difficult at first to get into character, but then as time goes by, it has become a part of his character and naturally his personality. At the age of 5, he assumed it was going to be the usual at the parkour event where he currently hangs out with the other group of boys.
Shinichi never had the intention to befriend these idiots, but he decided it wouldn't hurt to use them as his pawns to avoid having his grandparents nag him for not having more friends.
But this year, things are going to be different. Way different.
"Neh Kudo," A boy his age, a big burly boy named Fuse Amaya who is the ringleader, hissed from across the side. "Don't look now, but a corner to my left behind me is your other half."
"Hah?" Shinichi glanced inconspicuously past him and sighed upon somewhat recognizing the face as not his own. Except for the difference that separates him from her is that signature bright red lips. A little girl of five playing around the course on her own, jumping on the trampoline 360 degrees like Spiderman as she was having fun on her own, her appearance looked familiar in Shinichi's mind, despite having never met before. "Who is that girl?"
"Her name is Kudo Ranran, "A skinny lanky boy by the name of Ashikaga Ryoko suddenly emerged before them, as the group stared at her.
"Kudo Ranran....?" Shinichi frowned, wondering where he heard that name from. Only then, did he recall hearing it where. One was from his family, the other was not long ago when the announcement was recently made that she has broken his time record for the chase tag.
At that time, when he got word that she won, he felt like his ego was broken to a pulp. Shinichi was the smallest boy in their age group, and for a girl to defeat him was embarrassing.
That's right, especially a little girl who is a stain within the family. His rumored illegitimate sister.
" I heard that she moved here a year ago from England and hated moving here so much so, that she never bothered to learn how to speak Japanese in protest, "Ryoko whispered to his gang.
The third boy named Shiro Shoji scoffed. "Dumb girl. What choice does she have? Does she not realize an adult is more powerful than kids like us?"
Shinichi spared them a glance. "That's mean. And too judgmental. There is no proof to support all of this at this point."
Shinichi can see them openly glaring at the little girl.
"What about her?" Shinichi asked the first boy as he clicked his tongue.
"I don't like her. When I assumed you to be her, I thought you were cross-dressing at that time. So I tried to talk to her."
"Talk to her huh...?" Shinichi seemed sceptical about the concept. When these three fools say they merely want to converse, it's usually a cover-up for tormenting others.
"Anyway, long story short, she stole my money and pushed me down from a bridge! I almost drown to death because of the tide! Hell, she just walked away coolly and didn't bother to call for help! My parents couldn't charge her family because they believed her when she said 'she is too small' to push him down, and lied to them in English, claiming I was the one who tried to push her down, only I failed and ended up falling!" Shinichi blinked a few times in response to Ryoko's rage before narrowing his gaze.
"You can't blame her, the whole lot of you chased and tried to mock her to the bridge when she was walking on her own doing nothing to you."The blue eye boy pointed out, at the same time, Shinichi was unconvinced by Ryoko's story. Ranran is a lot smaller size than Shinichi, and even he himself can't push someone as tall as Ryoko.
"The other day, after that incident, when I tried to confront her on what she did to Ryoko while crossing over the pedestrian bridge, she too stole my money before pushing me down the stairs! I fractured my arm and had to have my head bandaged thanks to her!"Fuse Amaya blasted in anger."My parents were furious with the hospital bills she incurred, but again, that girl seemingly was able to lie brazenly that I tried to push her down, so she did it in self-defence!"
"You ain't that bad compared to mine," Shoji scoffed.
"Oh, really," Shinichi sipped his bottle of water."How so?"
"After the two of them failed, I figured to follow her until she was alone only to attack her. Which I managed to."Shoji explained with enthusiasm.
"Oh really?"Shinichi's eyebrows raised, "So you succeeded?"
Then Shoji's face turned to a scowl and disappointment, "No."
"Hah?"Shinichi was in disbelief.
"She wasn't alone at that time, with some little boy...I think it was a kindergarten friend of hers. They were rehearsing some magic trick, the boy was named Kaito I think, he wanted to be a magician. Anyway, the two were smaller than me, so I knew it was a perfect opportunity to attack her. However...that pesky girl, "Shoji gritted his teeth in anger," She had wires placed in the thick patch of green grass around the empty park, so by the time I set foot...I got electrocuted."
"You got what!?"All the boys' jaws fell.
"Electrocuted. I believe they had wires buried around the grass that was linked to the car battery, and they were trying to wow an audience by having the crowd tell them where to walk, only to escape unscathed. Anyway, you can predict what happened: I was left twitching on the ground. And guess what she and that Kaito friend of hers did? They kept the wire and battery quiet, and left me lying motionless till midnight, alone, in some hot summer park with ringing Cicadas! That night, I was stung by so many mosquitoes." Shoji bemoaned before expressing his rage at the scenario., "Again, no one believed me because they think two 4-year-old kids ain't smart in setting up car batteries with wiring."
"What the hell....?!" Shinichi mouthed to himself, car battery!? How the hell does a couple of 4-year-old kids have access to such dangerous equipment, let alone, know how to use it!? Shinichi himself is unusually smart, but even he himself ain't certain how to do so.
"Well, when you put it that way...even I ain't sure how to set up car batteries."Shinichi thinks of this.
"Anyway, after hearing all of this, I decided she is a devious girl. From the way she behaves, I wouldn't trust her with anything. Let alone, I doubt she even deserves winning the damn title of becoming the fastest parkour chaser in chase tag of our age group."Amaya was furious at this, "Let alone, her beating you...she doesn't deserve to win any of this!"
Chase tag is a combination between parkour and a game of tag, where people relied on their competitive parkour skills to go after the person who is labelled 'IT'. It was a popular sport back in the U.K, before the sport caught on in the U.S.A, followed by the rest of the country. In Japan here, the kids enjoyed playing tag, so it's no surprise when they first got word of this event, they didn't hesitate on wanting to learn all of the cool parkour moves shown on tv.
For the past 2 years, Shinichi was the champion of his age group.
Then suddenly, this Kudo Ranran arrived and knock him off course.
Shinichi sighed through his nose, and took another glance at them."She won through her efforts, you know?"
"Look at her face. Disgusting. It looks as if someone put bright red lipstick onto your face."Ryoko spat in disgust, ignoring Shinichi's words.
"I don't look like her-"Shinichi wanted to argued.
"No, you do. Just give a good look, Kudo-kun."Shoji grinned widely. "I bet if you two stand side by side, you both can be considered twins." Shinichi looked at them, unimpressed as Shoji ranted on, "The rumours' must be true, that she got all those fast talents from your dad."
That irked Shinichi as he sputtered on his drink. "My dad did not have an affair, alright!?"
"Who knows? Do you know why one of David Beckham's kids is good at soccer? Because he got his DNA in him! Do you know how I know this? Cause my mother always said: If only I married a smarter man that ain't your father, I would've been born smart!" Shoji looked Shinichi in the eyes, dead serious.
"Shoji is right, you know? I mean otherwise, how is it Cheetahs run fast?"Ryoko pointed out, "They breed among their kind to be fast. The same goes for us as well."
"I doubt it's that simple."Shinichi was in disbelief over their claims.
"Anyway, kids without a dad tend to be dumb."Amaya gave a sinister smile at Shinichi, "It's time I teach that girl a lesson."
And so, the boys managed to convince a then 5-year-old Ranran to compete against each other. As she wasn't able to understand a shred of Japanese, the boys had to rely on Shinichi's translation to get that going to remove the language barrier. And so far, she agreed.
The three boys, except Shinichi, plotted to ensure she is defeated by conversing in Japanese, a language she is unfamiliar with. Shinichi, in their eyes, lacked the courage to accomplish what they did, thus he was left out of the plan. Adding some slippery stuff around the pipe, such as moisturiser, while they perform parkour will ensure she fails badly when they compete against each other, and this will undoubtedly be her doom.
The little boys were excited as they finalized their plan. They were sure that their prank would ruin that girl's reputation.
"Eh?! The three of us go first!? Why?!"
Ryoko was taken aback as Shinichi interpreted Ranran's statements to the three startled males "She stated that she was weary of seeing people say 'ladies first' while she lived in the United Kingdom. As a result, she decided to let you guys proceed ahead of her."
Sweat grew behind the three boys' heads nervously as Shoji commented, "I-It's alright, she can go first-"
"No, you go first."Shinichi translates on.
The more the boys attempted to convince Ranran, the more she resists. Then it became longer for approximately 2 minutes, as the three others became desperate and attempted to urge Ranran to do it, as they grew furious wondering why she was refusing to bend to their secretly well-laid plans.
Then, all of a sudden, Ranran continued telling Shinichi in English in an insistent tone, leaving the boys wondering what else, "She is now asking why are the three of you pressing she should go ahead? It seemed as though the three of you are chickening out to put all the difficulties on a little girl like her." Shinichi explained, which infuriated the three lads.
"Excuse me?!" Ryoko was in disbelief.
"We ain't!"Shoji defended.
"If anything, she is the one who is a chicken!"Amaya almost shouted.
The small girl began speaking up more, which surprised Shinichi before he reluctantly translated her comments to the males," She stated she doesn't mind if she's labelled one, better than a gang of cowards who refused to go before her."
"Cowards? She is the coward, not us!" Amaya said in yet another scoff.
"So why not do it before me, she asks? She believes you must have done something with the bar now." Shinichi decipher the words of the red lip girl before he too began to sense something isn't right with their actions.
"What?" Amaya wasn't quite sure if he'd heard him right. "Are you kidding me? Why would I want to do it before her!?"
"Why wouldn't you? You can't do parkour after all, huh? That's why all of you are eager to push onto a girl like me!"Ranran could be heard saying in English as she continue to quip them.
Why did Shinichi have a nagging suspicion that Ranran is trying to peer pressure the boys into doing it? No, Shinichi was pretty sure Ranran didn't know as she only knew English as her native language.
"Alright...I will do it."Amaya reluctantly agree as he was frustrated that he is unable to get this girl to budge. From the age of 3 till now, he has never failed to pressure any of his bullied victims to do whatever he and his friends ask him to do. This is going to be the first.
"Great!" Ranran visibly perked up.
At this point, the other 3 had a point to prove to her that they didn't sabotage the bar. So the three decided they are going to clean it up before they prove it to her. They will do the sabotage later when she no longer suspects what they are about to do.
"Alright, then let me start first."Shoji begins as he headed over to the bar, with attempts on using his handkerchief in his pocket to wipe out the moisturizer they added to the bar, as they were initially expecting Ranran to slip.
"Wait!"Shinichi stopped them.
"What now!?"Shoji stopped, as the other boys groaned at the blue-eyed boy, who is now listening to Ranran's words.
After interacting with her, Shinichi turned to the boys," She is now demanding to know why are you boys wiping the bar?"
"Eh!?"Shoji and the rest were caught off guard, not expecting her to be that observant. Deciding not to let her find out, Ryoko lied, "We are doing this...for luck."
The three idiots didn't need to learn English, but judging Ranran's sceptical expression, they can tell she didn't buy a word. Observing Shinichi's expression, he then said, "Boys, she thinks you are all lying. Get on the bar, no wiping. Otherwise, she is going to get the person in charge of the equipment to test it out."
The three boys' mouths fell in horror, the last thing they want is for an adult to find out they had messed with the equipment to teach that bastard girl a lesson. Especially their parents will kill the boys if they find out what they have supposedly, as their parents are trying to woo the teacher to secure them in the best class. The last thing they told them before leaving the boys to their devices was to not get into trouble.
After all, the incidents they had with Ranran were already beginning to cast doubts on their parents. They were already considering wanting to send the three to attend many hours of tuition classes before they start grade 1 so that they have no time to harm other kids, something the three already dread. Any child would know, that attending tuition classes is like a 'death sentence' to their childhood. Imagine enrolling in school for over 7 miserable hours is bad enough, attending tuition would just destroy any chance of fun time after school.
So of course, the three were at her mercy when she announced she is going to drag in the equipment inspector to see whether it was tempered. "N-no! Don't do that!"Ryoko stuttered as he begged.
"Why?"It was Shinichi's turn to become suspicious, "Did you do something with the bar?"
"N-no, of course, we didn't!"Shoji stepped in to defend Ryoko.
"Then why are you boys acting suspiciously?"Shinichi finally had it with two parties having no progress, before his hands on his waist," Either you boys do it or you don't."
Reluctantly, the kids have no choice but to do so, for the wrath of their parents is worst than them facing their backfired sabotage meant for Ranran. And boy, when they slipped and fell, it was evident Ranran laughed loudly, pointing at the three unfortunate boys writhing in pain as she tells Shinichi, "Why are they so stupid!? They were bragging about their parkour moves earlier. Are the boys in Japan here that dumb?"
It was then that Ranran's comment stung Shinichi. It's one thing if she refuses to study the Japanese language, but it's another to insult the boys of Japan, especially Shinichi. Furious, he challenged Ranran in her native language, "You know what!? I say we do all of the competition back and forth! I will show you what girls like you are like!"
Forming a thin smile on her red lips, Ranran answered, "Sure, but you are all going to lose miserably."
So for the next hour or so, the 4 boys tried to defeat Ranran in their way. But they were mistaken as five-year-old Ranran was cunning and evasive in her parkour moves, always one step ahead of them.
When they were climbing the rope, Ranran was the first to make it to the top like a monkey
When they played chase tag parkour, she manages to evade capture the way Spiderman would.
When it was her turn to chase after them, only less than 5 to 10 seconds, she was able to catch them with minimal effort.
Shinichi never could have imagined the other boys would quickly become overwhelmed, let alone himself. The kids had gathered on a high platform of some parkour obstacle, it wasn't meant for five-year-olds to hang around, but out of anger, one of the boys dared Ranran that she isn't able to do it at where they stood with strings hanging out. To their surprise, Ranran was able to beat all four of them.
The boys panted while the little girl stood before them as she was giving them the unimpressed look, Shinichi left to go get his bottle of water before Ranran said in English."Didn't think all the 4 of you suck." she huffed."Still, I had fun. Maybe we'll do it another time."
Shinichi stood still for a moment, then turned around. His face showed no trace of joy from their activities. His eyes were narrowed at her before he ended up saying those words that cost him almost everything:
"You are a bastard, so even if we were to do so, it is nothing cause your mom slept with my dad! You got all those skills because of it, so don't brag!"
Alright, Shinichi had no evidence to back it up that the girl before him is his half-sister, but he wasn't going to deny the fact that there have been a period when his mother accused his father of having an affair with some other woman that he has no idea who it is. He knew this because his grandparents had often brought up that his father married too early as they were in their early 20s when they got married at that time. In addition to that, whenever his dad gets drunk due to having to make connections in his line of work as a profound mystery writer at the party he attends, he tends to be flirty to other women, only to later blackout and forget about it the following day.
That's right, there was a period during their marriage when he was reportedly so drunk, that he allegedly slept with another woman while his mom was pregnant with Shinichi.
Shinichi never knew whether that was truly the case, as it wasn't a secret that his mother tends to blow things out of proportion about his father's behaviour. However, by the time he turned 4 years old, he found out he wasn't the only grandchild of the family by accident when his father was against his grandparents about letting Ranran be raised in the U.K with her family, as they wanted Ranran to be raised in Japan. His father was against it, but the matriarch (grandmother) was having none of it. She always wanted a daughter but never was able to conceive of having one. Having Ranran here would be a huge deal.
Also, Ranran's appearance was too strikingly similar to his father's. It was too much to not notice it.
And so, despite Ranran being a 'bastard' in Shinichi's eyes, she was treated like royalty. Though he never personally witness his grandmother spoiling Ranran in person, he had witnessed that one time the matriarch having employed a professional interior designer on decorating the entire living room with dresses, ribbons, and even lavish gifts decked out in every single corner of the house for Ranran's upcoming welcome to the family party, something that Shinichi never had when he was born. Sure, he too had a party thrown for him, but never as extravagant as his.
Thinking of this made him tremble in rage the more he recall this. Ranran is a 'bastard', and yet she is treated like royalty up to a point, she is that cocky and has forgotten her place. Did she forget who is the legal child and who is illegitimate? Maybe in the U.K, they treat things differently, but in Japan, even the kids here never dare to go against what they are born with.
Sure, Shinichi had no reason to be mad. He was given equal treatment as she is within the family most of the time, and yes, he has to admit she never once tried to approach him in getting along, let alone, belittle him. But the favoritism is evident, ain't it? Everything Shinichi has done, he had to follow the rules and get severely punished if he goes against them. But whatever Ranran does, she only got a slap on the wrist and is rewarded with whatever she gets.
That is why Shinichi justifies he should remind her no matter what, she will remain a 'bastard'. Since she is so spoiled, she needed to know her place in life.
"Shinichi is right! Your talent is nothing as long as your mom is a やりまん (yariman = slut)!"Shoji teasingly suggests in Japanese, that even though he may not have a good vocabulary of English, he was roughly able to figure out what Shinichi called her.
"Exactly! I mean to even steal our money? Your mom is probably a thief too!"Ryoko added with a smirk.
"Worst than a thief? An ignorant girl who can't even speak a single shred of Japanese! Now that your family moved here, you are very likely going to lose at the bottom of the class!"Amaya sneered at the five-year-old before them.
For a moment, Shinichi observed Ranran's expression, her bangs covered her eyes as he signaled to his friends, and they turned to leave."Luckily, she can't understand Japanese, otherwise, we all be screwed."Shoji commented, and the others agreed.
Before he knew it, the voice behind him spoke in Japanese, "Kinda expected from a group of boys who only have a sloth brain to function, no wonder they are all Chikushous (Son of a b***hes)."The girl muttered to herself before setting off to leave without a care in the world.
Now for some reason, the boys do happen to know this word Ranran uttered pretty well in Japanese, as it was common for adults to curse in their families whenever they are drunk. It was one thing when one becomes surprised at the fact that the little girl knew the Japanese language all along, but it was another when she said 'Son of a bitches' to all four of them, for all of them knew the meaning.
"...hey, did she just call us son of a bitch?"The realization dawned on Shinichi quickly.
"No way, right?"Shoji and the rest were smiling earlier before they shouted to Ranran while confronting, "What did you just say!?"Shoji called out to her.
Realizing that the boys didn't hear her clearly, she turned to them and said nonchalantly without hiding her twisted smile as she spoke in fluent Japanese, "You are all ちくしょう (Chikushou = Son of a bitch), I pity all of your mothers giving birth to idiots like you. I think they should くそくらえ (kuso kurae=Eat Sh*t) so that they no longer give birth to more stupid idiots to roam around the city."
One by one, as soon as she said it, their smiles completely wiped out of their faces.
A ridiculous laugh came out from the 5-year-old little girl as if she foresee this ahead of the shocked boys.
"No way! Did she...did she just speak in Japanese?! That meant...she knew what we were talking about the entire time!?"Amaya finds himself blurting.
"Oh? So you finally realize it? That I knew all along?" The girl snickered at the stupefied faces, oh how dumb they look, "Look at how pathetic you boys are while trying to fool me?"
The children flinched at her laughter and attempted to open their mouths once more, they were shocked that Ranran was able to speak Japanese with fluency and that she pretended not to know after all. The five-year-old girl then lowered her raised head and looked at the children mockingly.
"Why are you all so quiet all of a sudden? Where did the big mouth of yours go?"Ranran mocked.
The boys paused for a moment with her cold gaze, but they quickly opened their mouths to look at her with momentum.
"I can't speak Japanese? Do you think I was that dumb? You boys didn't even bother to think that I was the one who spread those rumours."She suddenly spoke another sentence of Japanese, her tone sounded unchildlike, it made Shinichi sense something was wrong, dead wrong.
"...Eh?"
It was a small voice but the surroundings were quiet and her voice reach the children. The children blinked at her voice mixed with ridicule."Why did you pretend to not understand a word we said?"Shinichi confronted.
"To see how stupid the boys here are. I want to know how many of them would blindly believe to identify an idiot. It turns out, I found not 1 or 2, but four idiots in total. I gotta give myself a pat on the back for this."
Their face started to turn red as Ranran called them idiots.
"Let's show that we Japanese are smarter than me? Oh my lord..."Ranran laughed with tears in her eyes, "Intelligence has nothing to do with which country you are born in my friend, let alone, race."She chuckles darkly."Judging all of your stupidity, no wonder all of your dumb moms have to resort to wooing the school board to end up in a better class. Because all of them ended up with dumb sons who are willing to resort to using underhanded tactics to go after me, a bastard."Ranran shrugs with a smile, "Then again, that is the price of dumb women sleeping with dumb men, they are bound to produce dumb idiots to spread more stupidity in this world."
"Hey! You better shut your God damn mouth!"Shoji suddenly became angry at being made a fool out of the girl."How dare you call all of our mom 'b**chs'!?"
"Yeah! How dare you insult my mom as well?!"Even Ryoko was pissed off that this girl is calling to insult his mom.
"Mine too!"Amaya joined in, furious was written all over his face.
Even Shinichi wasn't happy, to think this girl knew all along what they were saying. And she was secretly sneering at all of them, let alone, him. Is she doing this to belittle his intelligence?! "All this for amusement?! "
"I mean you all blindly believe without fact-checking, doesn't this make all of you the imbeciles of Beikai District?"Ranran taunted mockingly by emphasizing the word 'imbecile' in English, before speaking the rest in Japanese.
Seeing this girl continuously mock them fueled their anger further.
