Chapter Five.
Taehyung was magnetic, more so than usual, his presence commanding the space around them like he was the only one who mattered.
And maybe to Jennie, in that moment, he was.
Taehyung was drunk, the kind of drunk that made his walls crumble. He wasn't sloppy or out of control—no, he was the perfect balance of bold and uninhibited. His moves were smoother, his touches lingering, his words carrying an edge of daring he usually kept hidden.
She liked him like this. Maybe too much.
As they danced, Jennie caught herself smiling at how his drunken charm amplified everything that already made him irresistible. His arm wrapped lazily around her waist, pulling her closer than he usually dared, and she let him. She could feel his breath warm against her neck, his laughter low and carefree in her ear. He wasn't trying to be smooth; he just was, effortlessly.
"What's gotten into you tonight?" Jennie teased, her lips curving into a sly grin as she tilted her head to look up at him.
Taehyung's eyes, dark and unfocused yet so full of mischief, met hers. He grinned like he had a secret he wasn't planning on sharing anytime soon. "Maybe it's the tequila," he said, his words slurring slightly but still carrying that unmistakable confidence. "Or maybe it's you."
Her chest fluttered at the way he said it, like she was the reason he felt untouchable tonight. It wasn't the first time a man had made her feel like this—powerful, in control, desired. But with Taehyung, it felt different. It wasn't just about the chase. It wasn't just about the thrill.
"You're bold when you're drunk," she quipped, raising a brow as his hand slid down her back, just low enough to make her bite her lip. "A little reckless, don't you think?"
Taehyung chuckled, his laugh rich and intoxicating. "And you're dangerous when you smile like that," he shot back, his voice lower, almost a growl. "It makes me want to do stupid things."
Jennie's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly masked it with a laugh of her own. She wasn't about to let him know how much his words got to her. "Don't tempt me, Taehyung. You wouldn't survive."
"Try me," he whispered, his lips brushing the shell of her ear. It was so subtle, so maddeningly gentle, it made her shiver despite the heat of the room.
Jennie wanted to say something witty, something to knock him off his pedestal, but she found herself caught in his gravity instead. The way his drunk confidence gave him a certain kind of fearlessness was disarming. She liked this side of him—the way his usual polished demeanor gave way to something raw, unfiltered. It was dangerous, yes, but it was also undeniably alluring.
Her fingers trailed up his chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart beneath his shirt. "You're playing with fire, Tae," she murmured, her voice low and smooth. She knew how to wield her power in moments like this, but tonight it felt like the roles were reversed.
He smirked, leaning down so his face was just inches from hers. "Good thing I don't mind getting burned."
Jennie laughed, the sound light and airy, but inside, her thoughts were anything but. This was exactly the kind of connection she usually avoided—messy, unpredictable, real. Yet, here she was, leaning into it instead of running.
Just as the tension between them reached a boiling point, Taehyung stumbled slightly, catching himself with a hand on her shoulder. He grinned sheepishly, his cheeks flushed. "Okay, maybe I'm a little more drunk than I thought."
Jennie couldn't help but laugh at his honesty, the way his drunken vulnerability made him even more endearing.
"You think?" she teased, her hands steadying him as he straightened up. "You're lucky you're cute when you're like this."
"Only when I'm drunk?" he asked, his voice laced with mock offense.
Jennie smirked, letting her fingers linger on his arm as she leaned in close. "You're tolerable when you're sober. But drunk you? I might actually like him."
Taehyung chuckled, his eyes never leaving hers. "Then I guess I'll have to stay like this all night."
Jennie shook her head, her grin widening. "Don't push your luck."
But even as she said it, she knew she didn't mean it. She liked the way he pushed boundaries, the way his drunken state stripped away the polished exterior he usually wore so confidently. It made him feel real, tangible, like someone she could actually reach.
As the night wore on, the tension between them grew, electric and undeniable. Jennie wasn't sure where this was headed, but for the first time in a long time, she didn't care. Taehyung, drunk and bold, had managed to do what no one else could: make her feel alive.
And maybe, just maybe, she was willing to get burned too.
The Next Morning
The sunlight pierced through the blinds of Taehyung's shared apartment, painting lines of harsh brightness across his face. He groaned, rolling onto his stomach to bury his head in his pillow. His head throbbed—a sharp reminder of the tequila shots that had flowed far too freely last night. But the pounding in his skull wasn't the worst of it. No, the real pain came with the flashbacks.
The way he'd danced with her, touched her, whispered things he barely remembered—God, what had he done? Taehyung groaned again, louder this time, his voice muffled against the pillow.
"Shut up, bro. I am trying to sleep," came a groggy voice from across the room. Jimin, his roommate, was sprawled out on his bed, half-covered by a blanket that had clearly seen better days.
Taehyung lifted his head just enough to glare at him. "Why didn't you stop me?" he demanded, his voice rough and accusing.
Jimin cracked one eye open, giving him a sleepy, unimpressed look. "Stop you from what? Dancing like a lunatic or looking at Jennie like she was the last drink in a dry bar?"
Taehyung let his head fall back onto the pillow with a thud. "All of it. Any of it. I can't believe I... God, I think I kissed her. Did I kiss her?"
Jimin sat up now, a mischievous grin spreading across his face as he stretched his arms. "Kissed her? Try kissing the CEO of Luxem. That's some next-level ambition, Tae. I gotta say, I'm impressed. And jealous."
Taehyung "I know but I didn't wanna act like that. I'm drunk bro."
Jimin grinned and leaned back against his pillows. "Nah, don't be so dramatic. Look at it this way—you're living every guy's dream. Besides, you must've done something right. She didn't storm off or throw a drink in your face, so congrats on being charming even when you're wasted."
"Shut up," Taehyung muttered, throwing a pillow in Jimin's direction.
"Don't worry, man," Jimin teased, ducking the pillow effortlessly. "I fully support this. Jennie Kim and Taehyung? Sounds like a power couple waiting to happen. Just remember me when you're jet-setting around the world."
Taehyung groaned again, flopping back onto the bed. Jimin's words weren't helping; if anything, they made the whole situation even more surreal.
Later That Morning
Taehyung was still trying to piece together his fragmented memories of the previous night as he walked into the cafeteria. He hadn't expected to see her again so soon, but there she was.
Jennie was perched on a stool near the counter, a cup of coffee in her hands and a smirk already tugging at her lips as she spotted him.
"Morning, sunshine," she greeted, her voice light and teasing. "Rough night?"
Taehyung froze, his heart plummeting to his stomach. She looked far too amused for his liking, her eyes glinting with mischief as she took a slow sip of her coffee.
"I... uh..." He scratched the back of his neck, suddenly hyper-aware of how disheveled he looked.
Jennie leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. "You don't remember, do you?"
"I'm sorry if I acted something not right to you last night. I didn't mean like that."
"Relax, Tae," she said, "It was cute."
"Cute?"
"Yeah." She shrugged, her playful grin still firmly in place. "Watching you try so hard to be bold when you were clearly just drunk out of your mind? Adorable."
Taehyung acted cool "You're enjoying this way too much."
"Of course I am." Jennie leaned back, crossing one leg over the other. "You're not usually this flustered. It's kind of fun seeing you squirm."
"Glad I could be your entertainment."
Jennie chuckled, her gaze softening just enough to make him feel slightly less mortified. "Relax, Tae. I'm not mad. It was just a dance. Well, a lot of dances. And some flirting. And maybe a few things I won't let you live down anytime soon."
Despite his embarrassment, he couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips. Jennie had a way of disarming him, of turning his worst moments into something almost bearable.
"You're impossible," he said, shaking his head.
"And you're late for work," she shot back, glancing pointedly at the clock on the wall.
Taehyung's eyes widened. "Crap! I gotta go and again I'm sorry. Be honest, I don't wanna get any troubles. And you know you're Jennie Kim and I'm just a cameraman who working for you mom. We should not close each other like that anymore."
Jennie looked as he turned to leave and teased, her voice following him out the door. "We definitely should close and see each other more now. See you around, sunshine!"
As Taehyung rushed off, his mind a whirlwind of embarrassment and confusion, one thought lingered more stubbornly than the others: no matter how much he tried to push it away, Jennie Kim was going to be impossible to forget.
