ARRANGE MARRIAGE WITH KIM TWINS ( 2 )
The Kims approached the front door, the bell's chime echoing softly in the quiet neighborhood. The door opened to reveal a kind-faced couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jeon, their smiles warm and welcoming.
"Ah, the Kims! Please, come in, come in," Mrs. Jeon said, her eyes crinkling at the corners as she gestured them inside. "It's so lovely to finally meet you. And these must be your handsome sons." Her gaze swept over V and Taehyung, who offered their most charming smiles.
"It's a pleasure, Mrs. Jeon," V said politely.
"Thank you for having us," Taehyung added smoothly.
The two families settled into the living room, a space filled with bookshelves and comfortable armchairs, a stark contrast to the Kims' more modern, minimalist style. They exchanged pleasantries and talked about their families and businesses, the conversation flowing easily between the two couples.
"So, about Jungkook," Mrs. Kim began, her voice filled with a hopeful anticipation. "We're so excited to finally meet him. You've told us so much about him."
Mrs. Jeon's smile faltered slightly. "Oh, yes. My son... he's a very dedicated young man. He's usually home by now, but he loves his work so much, he often loses track of time." She glanced at her husband, a hint of worry in her eyes. "He's still at the library."
A wave of disappointment washed over Mrs. Kim's face. Mr. Kim, however, remained impassive, his expression unreadable. V and Taehyung exchanged a quick glance, a silent communication passing between them. They had come all this way, and now the main event was a no-show.
Just as Mrs. Jeon was about to apologize, the front door clicked open. A figure stepped inside, illuminated by the soft light from the porch. He was wearing simple, comfortable clothes: a soft, oversized sweater that swallowed his small frame and a pair of worn-in jeans. His hair was a bit disheveled, and his cheeks were flushed from the evening chill. He was holding a small, brown paper bag, the kind you get from a local bakery.
He looked up, his wide, doe-like eyes blinking in surprise. He was, as V and Taehyung had thought, breathtakingly beautiful. He looked like a living doll.
"Jungkook, you're home!" Mrs. Jeon exclaimed, her face lighting up with relief.
Jungkook's eyes scanned the room, landing on the Kim family. His eyes, in particular, lingered on the two identical twins. His confusion was palpable.
"Oh," he said, his voice soft and slightly breathless. "I'm sorry, I didn't know we had guests."
Mrs. Jeon walked over and gently took the bag from his hand. "Darling, these are the Kims. We told you they were coming. And this is our son, Jungkook."
Jungkook bowed politely, his cheeks a deeper shade of red. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
V and Taehyung stood up in unison, a synchronized movement that didn't go unnoticed by anyone in the room. They both extended a hand towards him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too," V said, his voice warm and inviting.
"We've heard so much about you," Taehyung added, his smile a little more intense than V's.
Jungkook looked from one twin to the other, his hand hovering uncertainly between them. He was still a little lost, a little confused, but his gentle, deer-like eyes held an undeniable curiosity. The game, it seemed, was officially on.
Jungkook’s hand hovered between the two identical twins, his eyes wide with a mixture of confusion and a hint of shyness. He wasn't sure whose hand he should take. As he finally began to reach for V, a sudden, swift movement interrupted him. Taehyung’s hand shot out, grabbing Jungkook's first.
V, clearly annoyed, slapped Taehyung's hand away. "What was that for?" he muttered under his breath, a sharp look in his eyes.
Taehyung just laughed, a playful glint in his eyes as he slapped V’s hand back. "Relax, bro. I was just faster."
Jungkook, who had been watching the exchange with a bewildered expression, let out a soft sigh and slowly pulled his hand back. Seeing that the twins were too busy playfully bickering to pay him any mind, he decided to make his escape. "You guys continue," he said quietly, a small, tired smile on his face. "I'm going to go change."
He gave a small, polite bow to the Kim couple, who were smiling a bit too nervously now, and disappeared down the hallway.
As soon as Jungkook was out of sight, V and Taehyung dropped their playful act, their confident smiles replaced by identical sulks. They stood there, looking at each other, a silent argument passing between them.
You messed up, V’s eyes said.
No, you were too slow, Taehyung’s eyes shot back.
The first impression they had so carefully planned was a mess, and it was all because they couldn't control their own competitive natures. They had a long way to go if they were going to pull off their plan.
After the brief and slightly awkward encounter, the twins retreated to the living room, taking a seat on a plush sofa. To avoid the watchful eyes of their parents and to feign disinterest, they huddled together, their heads bent over Taehyung’s phone.
Mrs. Kim and Mr. Kim resumed their conversation with the Jeons, their voices a low murmur in the background.
"What are we even looking at?" V whispered, his eyes on the phone screen which displayed a random social media feed.
His mind, however, was still replaying the moment Jungkook pulled his hand away.
"Doesn't matter," Taehyung mumbled, scrolling aimlessly. "Just look busy. You think he's mad at us?"
"Probably," V replied, a hint of guilt in his voice. "We messed up the first impression, big time."
Suddenly, Mrs. Jeon’s voice cut through their quiet conversation, a warm smile in her tone. “Oh, look, Kookie is here.”
The twins' heads snapped up in unison, and their breaths hitched at the sight. Jungkook was walking toward them, looking completely different from the tired librarian who had just stumbled in. He had changed into a soft, pale pink T-shirt that hugged his slender frame and a pair of clean white pants.
His hair was no longer disheveled but neatly combed, and his face looked fresh and clean. He truly looked like a living doll, a porcelain figure come to life.
Jungkook offered a shy, polite smile, his eyes darting between the two identical faces on the sofa. "I'm sorry for the delay," he said softly, his cheeks flushing a faint pink.
He sat down in an armchair across from them, his hands clasped neatly in his lap.
The air in the room seemed to shift. The playful rivalry between V and Taehyung instantly evaporated, replaced by a shared, silent awe.
All thoughts of a "plan" or a "game" faded as they simply sat and stared, captivated by the beautiful boy in front of them. The competition had never been about who would win, but who could get to him first.
Now, they were both equally mesmerized, and the reality of the situation hit them: they were truly falling for the same person, and their secret was about to get a whole lot harder to keep.
Jungkook's presence had a calming effect on the room, his quiet politeness filling the space. The Kim parents, seeing their sons struck speechless for once, decided to take the lead.
Mrs. Kim, her nervous energy replaced by a motherly warmth, leaned forward. "Jungkook, dear, it’s so nice to see you. We were just talking about how much of a hard worker you are. Your mother tells me you're a librarian?"
Jungkook nodded, his hands still clasped in his lap. "Yes, ma'am. I've always loved books, so it felt like the perfect job for me."
"That's wonderful!" Mrs. Kim smiled genuinely. "What kind of books do you enjoy? Are you into those heavy historical texts or more... light-hearted stories?" She glanced at her sons, subtly trying to get a read on Jungkook's personality for them.
"A bit of everything, actually," Jungkook replied, a small, genuine smile gracing his lips. "I love fantasy and sci-fi the most. Anything with a bit of magic or a whole new world to get lost in. But I also appreciate the classics and, well, even a good mystery novel from time to time."
The twins, still quiet on the sofa, exchanged a look. Fantasy and sci-fi? This was a new side to the "quiet librarian" they had been told about.
Mrs. Kim’s smile widened. "A man with diverse tastes. I like that. So, what do you do for fun when you're not at the library? Any hobbies?"
Jungkook tilted his head, thinking for a moment. "I like to draw and paint," he said softly. "And I've recently started learning to bake. I actually just came from getting some supplies." He gestured vaguely toward the kitchen where the paper bag was now sitting.
Taehyung’s eyes lit up, unable to keep quiet any longer. "Baking? What did you get?"
Jungkook's gaze flickered to Taehyung, a little surprised by the sudden interjection. "Just some flour and sugar," he said shyly. "I'm going to try to make some macarons. It's my first time, so I'm not sure how they'll turn out."
"Macarons are tricky," V added, his voice low and smooth. "You have to get the almond flour just right."
Jungkook’s eyes widened slightly, clearly impressed that V knew such a detail. "You bake too?"
"Sometimes," V replied, a hint of pride in his tone. "More like a little here and there. But I do love to cook."
"Oh, you two are getting along already!" Mrs. Kim said with a delighted laugh, seeing her sons finally engage. The nervous tension was gone, replaced by a genuine interest. The plan, it seemed, was back on track. For now.
"I must say, Jungkook, you're a very impressive young man," Mrs. Kim said, her smile warm and sincere. "My husband and I were so impressed when we heard about your academic achievements. You have a master's degree, is that right?"
Jungkook nodded, his cheeks flushing slightly at the praise. "Yes, ma'am. I have a master's in library and information science. I graduated two years ago."
"And with very good marks, I hear," Mrs. Kim added, glancing at Mrs. Jeon with a look of approval.
"He's a very dedicated student," Mrs. Jeon said proudly. "He always has his nose in a book. We're very proud of him."
"That's fantastic," V said, his voice calm and steady. "So you've always been focused on your studies? Never had time for... anything else?" His question was carefully worded, a subtle way of asking about Jungkook's love life without being too direct.
Jungkook looked at him, his brow furrowing slightly. He understood the hidden meaning behind the words. "Not really," he admitted shyly. "I've always been a bit... reserved. And between my studies and my job, I haven't really had much time to date."
"So, you've never had a boyfriend?" Taehyung asked, his question a bit more direct than V's. He leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, his eyes fixed on Jungkook.
Jungkook's eyes widened slightly, his cheeks turning a deeper shade of red. He shook his head. "No. I... I haven't."
The revelation hung in the air for a moment. Mrs. Kim looked at her sons, a mixture of amusement and concern on her face. Mr. Kim, for his part, remained silent, a knowing smirk playing on his lips.
Taehyung, seeing Jungkook's discomfort, quickly tried to lighten the mood. "Oh, well, that's fine. It just means you haven't found the right person yet." He shot a glance at V, a silent message passing between them. Looks like we have our work cut out for us.
V, picking up on the cue, added, "Exactly. We can teach you a thing or two." He gave Jungkook a small, confident smile, a stark contrast to Taehyung's playful grin.
Jungkook, still a little flustered, gave a small nod, a shy smile returning to his face. "I... I guess so. So, what about you guys? You've had a lot of girlfriends?" he asked, his voice soft and curious.
The twins looked at each other, their playful bravado momentarily gone. The question was an unexpected turn. The truth was, they had been so focused on their work and each other that their dating lives were practically non-existent.
"Not really," V admitted, the honesty surprising even himself. "We've been so busy with the company. There hasn't been much time for anything else."
"We're like you," Taehyung added, his voice low and sincere. "We haven't found the right person yet."
A quiet understanding passed between the three of them. The tension from before had completely vanished, replaced by a strange, new sense of connection.
They were all on the same page, in a way. Three people, all with little to no romantic experience, now bound by an arranged marriage. The irony was not lost on anyone in the room.
"Well," Mrs. Kim said, clasping her hands together with a satisfied smile. "It seems like we've all gotten along splendidly. And since you've all had a chance to get to know each other, I think it's time we talk about the future."
The twins sat up a little straighter, their gazes fixed on Jungkook. Mr. and Mrs. Jeon exchanged a knowing look, their smiles warm and understanding. Jungkook’s heart began to beat a little faster. He looked at V, then at Taehyung, a nervous flutter in his chest. He was supposed to choose one of them, wasn't he? They were both so kind, so handsome. V was calm and collected, while Taehyung was playful and warm. How could he possibly choose?
Mrs. Kim, sensing Jungkook’s hesitation, gave him a gentle, reassuring smile. "Jungkook, dear, you look so thoughtful. Don't worry, there's no pressure." She paused, her gaze shifting between her two sons and then back to Jungkook. "We simply wanted to make sure you were comfortable with the match."
Jungkook took a deep breath. He looked at V again, his quiet confidence a comforting presence. He then glanced at Taehyung, his mischievous grin a little more challenging. He had a feeling that V was the safer, more stable choice. A good match for his own reserved nature. He decided.
"I... I think I'd be happy with V," Jungkook said softly, his eyes on the elder twin.
V's face lit up with a triumphant smile, and he leaned over to playfully nudge Taehyung, who just rolled his eyes. The Jeon couple looked relieved and happy. The marriage was settled.
"That's wonderful, dear!" Mrs. Kim said, her smile nervous and a little too bright. "V is a wonderful young man. And... so is Taehyung." She took a deep breath, looking at the twins and then at the Jeon parents, her smile faltering slightly. "There's just one more small detail."
Everyone in the room looked at her expectantly.
"You see," she continued, her voice a little shaky, "Jungkook, darling... you're going to marry both of them."
The words hung in the air, a stunning silence settling over the room. The Jeon couple gasped, their eyes wide with shock. Jungkook’s own eyes went from wide to impossibly so, his mouth falling slightly open.
He looked from Mrs. Kim, to his own parents, and then to the two identical twins who were now looking at him with the same knowing expression. The truth, it seemed, was finally out.
