tainted dreams | chapter five
___
___
Entering a menacing-looking spaceship was easier than she had thought. She was siting there, completely at ease as they prepared to leave Tony behind and planned to eliminate Thanos from the face of the earth.
And she was ready to bring that bastard down. Once and for all, for everything he had done to her and her loved ones.
"Okay, who here hasn't been to space?" Rocket asked, looking back at the rest of the team from his seat in the front of the ship.
Nat, Steve, Rose, and Rhodey rose their hands, while everyone else stared at each other in confusion. Rose shook her head and chucked when Rocket asked them not to throw up on his ship.
"Approaching jump in 3... 2... 1!" Nebula counted down as the ship jumped forward into a wormhole.
Steve and Rosalie were holding onto their seat for dear life. The ship slowed down, and it hovered in orbit of the planet seen in the hologram previously.
The view was absolutely breathtaking. Rosalie couldn't breathe for a second -perhaps because she was trembling like a shaking flower- and took in the mixture of colours that filled the space around her. Those colours were the most surreal thing the girl had ever seen and Nat had to shake her in order to bring her back to the present.
Carol was hovering in front of the ship, glowing in her glorious suit. Rosalie looked down at her black leather suit and sighed.
She would have to make a new one. Or ask Tony for some more fashionable updates.
"I'll head down for recon." Carol said before she left.
The passengers inside the ship were preparing for the impending confrontation. Nat and Steve circled the teenager and gave her weapons, some knives and a hug from her mentor and friend.
"This is gonna work, guys." Rosalie couldn't help but grip their arms as they waited for Carol to come back.
"I know it will." Steve was holding a compass with an image of a brunette lady, sighing. "Because I don't know what I'm going to do if it doesn't."
There was a small pause where everyone stood still and waited for Carol's reappearance. The nervous atmosphere that's surrounded them was excruciating. And Rosalie felt her teammates' fears crawling into her skin, feeding the center of her little power deposit, as she called it.
She was energised, ready to fight. And she would.
Carol quickly approached the ship and Rosalie dropped the cool act she had placed on herself even before stepping inside the dangerous looking ship.
"No satellites, no ships, no armies, no ground defenses of any kind. It's just him." Carol said with a frown on her face.
"Then that's enough." The blonde girl gripped her weapons and sat back down, Rocket piloting the ship down to the empty planet.
Upon landing, Rosalie could feel it. If it could be considered as eminent doom. Her heart was heavy inside her chest, beating faster than ever before and pumping blood at a high speed. The adrenaline made her cheeks heat up and the blushing girl was ready to end their suffering.
The first thing they saw as they stepped out of the ship was strangely haunting. Thanos' armour was placed in the middle of a harvesting field, as if a symbol of everything the wicked monster had accomplished.
And Thanos looked ridiculously pathetic compared to the last time Rosalie saw him, in his full glory as he ended everyone's hopes and dreams.
He was walking among his crops, harvesting fruit, and putting them in a bucket. He walked over to a shed, presumably his living quarters.
Everyone followed, hidden in the shadows provided by the high crops.
Thanos tried to sit down, looking tired, and Rosalie saw his full face. His whole left side was burnt with blisters.
"That has to hurt." Rosalie commented through clenched teeth, making Rocket high-five her and Nat shake her head with a small smirk on her face.
"On the count of three." Steve put his fingers in the air, preparing for the countdown.
"But why three?" Rosalie commented, earning a slap on the arm from one of the women behind her. "Odd numbers make me uncomfortable."
"On the doubt of four then." Steve rolled his eyes and gave her a warning look.
"Four is just weird, why not just say go, and we go?"
"Go!" Carol yelled before disappearing from their side, followed by Steve and Nat.
Rosalie looked around with her arms spread out and a look of surprise on her face.
"Really, guys?"
"Let's go." Rocket pulled her to the house.
Picking him up, she smirked and jumped high in the air to give their entrance the maximum surprise effect she could. Needless to say, her friend did not enjoy her little moment.
Rosalie let Rocket go as soon as her feet hit the ground and she grabbed Thanos' neck, allowing Carol and Bruce to grab his arms and legs. Both Thor and Rhodey pointed their weapons at his head, the God of Thunder slicing the gauntlet off Thanos' arm.
The blonde's left hand was aimed at the monster's head, black mist circling her fingers as she tried hard not to snap his neck with her right arm.
Steve chose this moment to walk in, wearing his glorious outfit with Nat by his side, equally glowing as the sun shined bright behind them. Murderous looks on their faces to match their heavily equipped suits, they watched as Rocket went over to the sliced off gauntlet, and kicked it over, as everyone realised that there were no stones in it.
"Oh no." The youngest of them all shivered at the sight.
"Where are they?" Steve hurried to Thanos' side and stood dangerously close to his scarred face.
"Answer the question!" Carol did the same when he didn't reply.
They were waiting for something, a glimpse of hope, anything. Rosalie's mind was invaded by images of everyone she lost: her parents, her best friends, Ned and Petter. They were all counting on her to make everything better again.
"The universe required correction." Thanos spoke in a hushed voice. "After that, the stones served no purpose, beyond temptation."
BRUCE BANNER :
"You murdered trillions!" Bruce yelled and pushed him to the ground wearing his gigantic armour.
"You should be grateful." At his words, it was Rosalie's turn to land a punch on Thanos' annoying face.
"Where are the stones?" Nay asked, also getting more annoyed as seconds went by without a coherent answer.
Taking his sweet time, Thanos delivered their fate in a dusty golden plate. And Rosalie's breath got caught on her throat, heart breaking.
"Gone. Reduced to atoms."
She stopped listening to the them. As they discussed the veracity of his words, the girl walked to the already destroyed window and gripped the strong wood surrounding it. The warm sun light felt cold on her skin.
Turning her head to the side to prevent the years from falling from her already burning eyes, she saw Thor's face filled with rage as he raised his arm to summon Stormbreaker.
Rosalie saw it coming but did nothing. There was nothing else she could do.
Before anyone could stop him, Thor sliced Thanos' head off. Thanos' limp body fell to the floor, along with Rosalie's will to fight.
"What... What did you do?" Rocket asked, incredulous.
Thor looked broken, realizing what he has done. But there was no going back and, as Rosalie thought about it, that was the best way to end the bastard's life.
"I went for the head."
Thor slowly walked out of the shed, no real purpose in his steps as Rosalie felt her vision blur.
This can't be happening.
She had to block everyone else out. Their emotions -failure, guilt, despair and sadness- were too much for her already trembling body to handle at once.
So the girl walked away.
Rosalie's sharp intake of breath could be heard from the other side of the galaxy, failure pressing her shoulders down as she sat outside the semi-destroyed cabin where Thanos' remains were left to rot.
She had failed. Once again.

i really don't have much to say about this one, just that it was a bit of a filler and not very important to this story at all (but it had to be done)
