Chapter One
'I still remember the promise that her and I made together.
W
e were just children. I wonder if she even remembers it?
Hell, I doubt she remembers what she had for breakfast this morning.'
Zachariah asked himself as he rested his chin on the edge of his palm witnessing his best friend devour another slice of pizza. The sound of lobby carnival music echoing from the computer as he waited on her to finish. 'Fifth? Sixth?' The amount she ate became somewhat of a blur. He had hoped that he would get at least two forgetting how much she ate despite her deceptive figure.
'Where did it all go?' A question that gnawed at him here and there. He had assumed that she would be courteous enough to let him indulge as he footed the bill but of course she wasn't. Perhaps, it was the curse of comfortability. A comfortability that was noose pulling ever so tighter with each passing moment he spent with her. A feeling he wouldn't trade for the world.
She flashed him an awkward smile as he had unbeknownst to himself been staring at her for quite a while. "What?"
He quickly came up with a way out like he often did when he got caught thinking of things that would never come to pass. "You've got sauce all over you." He gestured to her shirt in which drops of sauce sat proudly. She wasn't one for tableware or napkins as used her shirt a lot as a source for cleaning as she claimed it saved on water despite how unappealing it was to see a teenager lick off food from their own clothes.
"Thanks!"
She flashed him a unforgettable sauce covered smile. He in returned with awkward smile. Zack sat there with his average teenage friend suffering threw the fact that she had feelings for another guy. Zack was the only guy that probably thought that her ill mannered smile was some what attractive.
A simple uninterrupted moment with her that's all he asked for but he knew it would never last.
He treasured each fleeting moment with the girl who he wished she saw'll herself the way he sees her. Skyler usually bailed on Zack to hang out with Juliet, Madeline, A.J., Kai, Erin, or someone else in her little clique or so he thought.
Skyler Parker, Avengers Academy's professional wallflower tensed up as she noticed her crush. A teenage by about 5'11" , sliver blonde hair styled to perfection, and light blue eyes that could melt any girls' heart. She nervously waved at the Academy's Ice Prince.
'Look at him waving back'
She thought as she fantasized about what could be. She had a thing for villains, a sort of fetish really.
'Remember Sky, you don't have time to date. But he's hot. And your a superhero. But he's hot. And... okay yah his hot but but your Sky.'
She thought trying to reason herself out of the dreaming cold hearted boy.
'I don't know what that egotistical, well-known, blonde, narcissist has that I don't have.'
Zack thought as he unconsciously clinched his fist under the table. He was frustrated that Sky the girl he considered to be 'his girl' was daydreaming about a guy she barely knows.
Sky awkwardly waved back at the Ice Prince even know she had pizza sauce unattractively smeared on her face and hands.
Her expression was so priceless even if she was a complete utter mess. The feelings that Zack had for her wouldn't subside.
'Hot mess'
Zack used to describe her in his thoughts when he watch her make a utter fool of herself. Her pupils expanded every time she looked at the Ice Prince. She was addicted to him but Zack was addicted to her.
'I may have a crush on her but I ain't stupid. I see the way she looks at him. If only she looked at me that way.'
Zack clinched his hands even more at the thought of losing 'his girl' to a player like Tyler Jones.
"He waved. He waved at me!! Can you believe it?"
She excitedly blurted out after finishing her sixth and final slice.
"Tell me all about it. It's not like it happen about two minutes ago while I was sitting right across from or anything."
He sarcastically replied.
"Hey, can't I fangirl over a boy for once?!"
She complained as she leaned across the table towards his face for a dramatic effect. Making her in the perfect position for him to wiped the sauce off her face. He licked the tip of his thumb and gently caressed her cheek as she remained perfectly still. He inch his thumb towards her lips. The lips he would do anything to kiss.
"Your breath stinks."
He blurted out breaking the silent entrapment of awkwardness. He moved his hand as soon as he realized he lost his chance.
"What do you expect? Do you think my breath would smell minty fresh after eating six slices of pizza?"
"Maybe, if the pepperoni's were replaced by peppermints."
Skyler shook at the mere thought of those stereotypical round red and white candies that she didn't mind the smell of but hated the taste that infected her mouth like a plague.
"Hey, lovebirds!!"
A long black haired female just a tad shorter then Skyler greeted as she subtly winked to Zack. She knew the obvious feelings he had for her best friend. She decided that she would let the cat out of the bag but she wanted to have her fun first. What are friends for?
"Oi, Jules!"
Sky replied.
"Awe, don't you think it's cute, Zack. She pick up on my Ois."
Juliet said as she rested her chin on the top of Sky's blonde hair covered head. Zack knew Juliet was joking but he wanted the torment to end. He just wanted to be with Sky. Was that to much to ask for?
"Why don't you go bother James or something?"
Zack said wanting to find an excuse to get rid of her.
"And leave you to suffer threw a conversation with Blondie. Sounds like a punishment I wouldn't want my worst enemies to go threw. On second thought enjoy your little date."
She teased as she walked away before she could ask Sky about a homework question. Sky instinctively not being able to handle embarrassing situations, started laughing.
'What's wrong with her? Her laugh sounds like a donkey mating call? It's ridiculous but I think it's cute. What's wrong with me?'
In that moment her one of a kind laugh it was one of her many qualities, he liked. His heart always raced even more when he heard her unique laugh.
"Do you ever get tried of being friends with me?"
Zack questioned hoping that she would say yes and wanted to be more but he knew that wasn't the Parker way.
"Nope, when I'm with you I look so much prettier in comparison."
"Yah, right. I'm pretty sure I make you look good."
Zack replied after he rolled his medium brown eyes to her first comment. Not realizing his vital mistake.
"I mean, I'm pretty sure you make me look good."
He quickly corrected. Completely embarrassed that he would let something like that slip.
"I'm pretty sure you were right the first time."
She said with a teasing tone.
She stood up and collected her school stuff and headed towards her dark red locker labeled 516 before the bell rang for her next class. Zack followed her steps like a lost puppy.
"ACHOO!"
Sky unattractively sneezed causing a crush into ironically her crush.
All her books and folders scattered the front of her locker. Sky thought it was Zack helping her pick her books but she was wrong. She was in for a big surprise. Her sketchbook laid opened to the paper clipped page filled with decent sketches of Tyler. Sky noticed she was the only one picking up her books.
"Hey, stop looking at that. You've got books to pick up!"
She ordered not looking at him still thinking he was Zack.
"Your really good."
She recognized that voice.
She gulped a bunch off air
because she knew it wasn't Zack's.
"Ty... ler."
She stuttered at that fact she was in the presences of whom the girls call Ice Prince.
"She's the best."
Zack chimed in,
jealous off the fact that she was embarrassed to be in front of another guy.
'Kill me know. This couldn't get any worse.'
Were both Zack and Sky's thoughts but for completely different reasons.
