Chapter |6|

Hurt me as you always do...
_ Lee Y/n

★━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━★

As she gazed at the waves of the glistening Han River, the bridge and the water seemed to mock her, a bitter irony reflected in their features. The night enveloped the surroundings, devoid of even a single twinkle from the stars. Her emotions stirred within her, causing a painful groan to escape her lips and dry tears to cascade down her cheeks. A whimper formed in her throat, her quivering lips illuminated by the soft moonlight, as if fairies were observing the miraculous descent of her tears. The relentless flow of her stained tears showed no sign of ceasing, while her trembling hands sought solace on the cold bridge railing. Her flushed cheek immense anguish she bore. Seoul had succumbed to slumber half an hour ago, leaving her alone with her thoughts.

Her body responded instinctively as her phone interrupted her contemplation, its ringing alerting her troubled mind. As she picked up the phone, the caller ID displayed 'Jungook'.

Disregarding her brother's attempt to gain her attention, she abruptly ended the call and tightly clenched her phone. "How dare he have the audacity to call her at this hour!" she seethed. It was the only way to satisfy her agitated mind. After a few moments of silence amidst her tears, she wiped them away and proceeded to walk away from the Han River bridge, advancing along the rugged path, hoping to postpone the enveloping darkness of her overwhelming emotions. The thought of leaping off the bridge crossed her mind, but she quickly dismissed it, recognizing the futility and foolishness of suicide.

She could cry as much as she desired, but she couldn't fathom ending her own life unless someone else took it from her. Lost in her contemplation, her phone chimed again, alerting her to something peculiar. Halting in her tracks, she retrieved her phone once more and unlocked the screen. The words she read left her utterly bewildered. A surge of joy began to reclaim her thoughts and paragraphs.

Her eyes welled up with tears of joy, and she felt an overwhelming urge to jump and embrace someone. "You have been accepted into Seoul International University for Forensic Science and Technology," she read the message repeatedly. Her eyes shimmered with happiness, and she couldn't contain her excitement. Before she could reach out to her friend, she heard a sniffle from behind. Turning around, she spotted a young man stumbling clumsily, clearly intoxicated and clutching a bottle of alcohol. A sense of danger prickled in her senses.

Being a girl alone with a drunk man in the late hours of the night, she couldn't help but feel responsible for her own safety. The drunkard took another swig from the bottle and began hurling curses at someone, oblivious to his surroundings. "I hope you die, you wretched bitch! If I ever come across you again, I'll kick your ass. I gave you so many chances, but you're the worst person I've ever encountered in my life..." The man seemed to be drowning in the aftermath of a breakup with someone he had deeply loved. Y/n watched him with a mixture of terror and amusement. His actions and slurred curses appeared foolish.

Despite his handsome appearance, there was an air of danger surrounding him. His features suggested wealth and a penchant for fashion. "That wretched woman! How could she do this to me? She doesn't know me at all..." Y/n resumed her walk, but her shoes scuffed against the ground, catching the attention of the mint-haired man. Abruptly ceasing his string of curses, he noticed a girl ahead. His eyes fixated on her as she continued walking. Her emotions churned within her like disheveled sheets on a bed. He sprinted towards her, lifting his feet to catch up. Y/n flinched upon hearing the rushing footsteps and turned back, only to see the man closing in on her.

She quickened her pace, but in her haste, she stumbled upon the edge of a hard stone, altering her fate in an instant. She fell onto the road, instinctively extending her arm to shield her face from injury. Glancing back, she witnessed the man freeze in his tracks, intercepted by Jungook. His car was parked nearby. Jungook signaled for her to get into the car while he restrained the man. The man attempted to resist Jungook's grip but proved no match for his strength. Hesitation clouded her mind, but she couldn't resist the pull.

Slowly rising to her feet, she brushed off the dust from her dress and dashed towards the car without glancing elsewhere. She observed them as the man slipped into unconsciousness, and Jungook hoisted him over his shoulder, carrying him towards the car. Jungook effortlessly deposited him into the vehicle, while Y/n grappled with her thoughts, questioning why he would carry an unknown drunkard. Unable to find her voice, she could only muster one thing that lingered on the tip of her tongue.

"Thank you." Jungook snapped his head towards her as the drunk man began playing with the car's radio, and Y/n settled into the passenger seat beside him. "Learn from this incident; there's no one more important to me than you and our parents. Friends hold a lesser place in my heart. I'll never allow a separation between you and our parents in my life, my little sister." Jungook secured her seatbelt and merged it with his own. "Okay, oppa, and I'm sorry for shouting at you." "I apologize for my words, my princess." "Stop using pet names for me," she whined and pouted, causing Jungook to burst into laughter.

"Let's not argue over a nickname, and if you get sick watching over the river st cold climate mom will scold me."

As Jungook drove away, she couldn't help but think of the drunken man sleeping peacefully in the backseat after his earlier curse-filled outburst. A giggle escaped her lips. "Jungook, do you know him?" she asked. Jungook nodded with a smile as his eyes remained fixed on the road. "He is one of my friends. He arrived in Seoul from Italy just yesterday," he explained. "Why didn't you tell me about him earlier?" she inquired. "He was born and raised in Italy and came here to join our company. I lost track of time and decided to surprise you with the news after the party," Jungook replied. "Okay, and what is his name? He's cute like a cat," she remarked, observing the sleeping man. "Don't get too attached to my friends. I worry about you, my little girl. I must warn you, they can be playboys," Jungook cautioned her. She looked at him with disbelief. She wanted to know more about his friends, especially Jimin, but Jungook's constant annoyance deterred her.

Every time she met Jimin, she ended up arguing with him. Jungook could sense the pain in his sister's heart. "I'm only warning you. Don't take it too seriously. You can talk to them, be funny and spend time with them, but don't get too attached emotionally. That's all," he reassured her. She nodded and slowly drifted into sleep, her head leaning against Jungook's body. Jungook smiled as he accelerated the car to get them home as quickly as possible.
