Chapter 35 : Caim

"Ma'am, the second format for the traveling agency has arrived. Should I mail you?"

"Yes, please. What's the theme this time?"

"They wanted natural elements."

"Alright. Send me the details and I'll direct the further process. Also, can you check the files from the sales team?"

"Yes, ma'am. I'll have it done on your table by tomorrow."

"Kay. Thanks." Turning back into my cubicle, I ran my fingers through the keys on the keyboard, preparing the spreadsheet on the last advertisement project. The visual constituency had to be increased in the previous format.

The file I had prepared for the project wasn't uploading and showed failed results. I had prepared an approximate budget for the restaurant promotion but I was unable to open it. The file's code encryption algorithms was what I could see, even with the desired software.

As if someone had permanently deleted the document data and hence the file was corrupted.

But my computer was password protected and nobody but I, knew about it. Even the file had closed passwords. How did it get hampered?

The stress of re entering the former data while working on a new project, felt overwhelming. I had barely slept in the past few weeks, correcting and updating the data. And now that the file doesn't open, my eyes hurt.

I logged onto to my mails and opened the new attachment. Opening the PDF, I was greeted by a set of unfamiliar textual content, which didn't enthrall me as much as I was with my first project.

6 months since I started this dreadful job and had to get my eyes checked.

Pulling my slick specs off, I rubbed my eyes. Just thinking of re entering the whole data made my bones feel weak already. I had to recollect the manual hardcopy I don't even recall.

I pushed my chair back and took my step out of the office to look in the files and clicked towards the huge rack.

"Y/n-ssi!" I shrugged my shoulders in exasperation as my coworker, Jaechan voiced my name. Heaving a deep breath of sigh, I painted a fake smile of energy and turned to face him.

"Yeah?"

"Did the intern send you the new project details?"

"Hmm."

"So you must know that you have a meeting with the team manager of the hotels?" He informed.

"I didn't. When is it?" I asked, crying inside to get a break.

"It's in like 10 minutes. You should get ready."

"Oh my! 10 mins only? Okay, conference hall?" I faned myself and freaked out. I had no ideas for the project.

"Yeah." I picked my bag and started running on the marbled floor with my heels clicking on the floor, making feel helpless unlike the first day.

I had to sit and decide atleast a small presentable idea to whoever my client was. I needed to check my looks before sitting with them. It sucks to be an adult.

"How will I make a design- Woh!" I hurled over my body around the stairs. My eyes clenched hard to my skin, shutting themselves and refraining from witnessing the massive fall I was about to hit.

"Y/n!" I felt a strong body grabbing my fragile torso. The familiar vocal tone struck my senses and jolted my body up from his grip.

"Bro?" I was taken aback by his sudden appearance. I am used to Heeseung saving me at times I mess up but I didn't expect him to appear like a superman.

"Yeh! I'm here to meet the chief of LCMB and the project director." He informed, dusting his suit and grinning at me.

"What's your position again?" I asked, knowing that he was in fact a hotelier, of a higher position while I was handed a new project.

"Team manager at the Dreamer's Souvenir."

"Thanks for coming. I won't need to rush in this project. Finally, some rest." My body had bent down to match the breath I had lost while running and then falling.

"Hmm?" He hummed with interrogation in his speech.

"I am the project lead. Come in." His face reflected a prideful but shocked aura and I must agree, I liked that look. I opened the door and walked inside the meeting cabin and waited for Heeseung to come in with the chief of our company. I've never seen that man in my life and being able to meet him with my brother in the same room and signing a deal to him is my only favourite achievement. Not to mention, I'm getting the opportunity of being a nepo baby to my brother's feedback.

The gurgled my throat, suppressing my excitement. The door opened as I noticed Jaechan welcoming my brother, followed by a young girl and a tall middle aged man.

I stood up and bowed to the old man, the chief of the company. Heeseung bowed to me. Formality, is such an amazing word, isn't it? It made my own brother bow down to the superiority of my position while I stood there, pretending to be meeting him for the first time.

Honestly, I am seeing him after a long while because of our hectic schedules.

I partially bent my body to bow back, this being the first time him bowing to me. And to add insult to injury, bowing to me before I bow to him.

"So, it's been a long time since we signed a project with you, Mr. Lee." Jaechan shook hands with Heeseung and took to seats.

I sat next to the chief, opposite to Jaechan, and Heeseung sat face to face with our CEO. I looked at the faces present in the room, smiling to myself.

I knew my work partner, my brother and the girl, his PA. The girl was the same girl as that day in the café and that beachfront eatery, the one Sunoo was staring at.

She had her orbs focused on me, not parting sights even for a second. All of our encounters came with embarrassment and discomfort and making me feel awkward.

"I had sent the files regarding the points we need to focus more for this advertisement." Reported my brother.

"We are aware of that. Please inform us the shooting sites." Said Jaechan.

I remained quiet, letting them speak and kept hearing everything. I had no ideas prepared, hence I had no verdicts to share.

I waited for all the conclusions they arrived at and noted them. Even if I don't do the meeting today, I would get all the details from my PA and of course, my client.

"That would be great. Thank you." Saying so, the chief got up and marched out of the room, not waiting for Heesung to leave.

Considering how rude that was, I looked at it's optimism. Atleast I'll be able to leave work with Heesung and get to sleep.

"Shall we leave?" I asked.

"Yeah, sure. I'll just walk Mr. Lee to the door." Although I directed the question for the other Lee, Jaechan replied to my question.

"No, I was talking of him." I corrected.

"Him? Mr. Lee? Who's he to you?" He enquired.

"My Brother..."

"In law. Yes, she's my soon to be sister in law." Heesung interrupted my sentence with a lie. He glared at me, indicating me to feed the embers of his false fire. I abided by his sudden statement and nodded.

"Oh? Great!" Smiled Jaechan.

"So, shall we leave, Hyeongbu-nim?" I faked a curve of my lips.

"Sure, Cheoje."

Heeseung and Jaechan crossed paths, walking out of the building. Their eyes sparked at eachother, shaking hands on a fiendish note. Their heat for eachother wasn't amiable, rather ranted an execrable commitment, that appeared cataclysmic.

I watched them part as Heesung joined me, walking straight to his car. His PA, that eerie girl, was nowhere to be seen and Heesung didn't even bother to look for her.

"You had to bow to me..." I whispered, sitting next to him on the highway, trying to start a conversation.

"I was internally happy. Look at you, one day you were the kid who knew not to stand without me and now I am the one bowing down to you. It's a greater achievement to me, than you." He mumbled in his stern, deep voice.

"I am so excited to work on this project. But, I need your help."

"How may I help you, madam?" He smirked, trolling me for being his senior.

"You'll have to explain me everything from the beginning. I understand zero facts of whatever you two discussed."

"I knew you weren't listening. The moment you knew I was your client, you left the project on your client. If I had known, I wouldn't need to travel two trips." He laughed. There were only three people who knew me the best, and without any doubt, I knew I could trust them. The closest being my brother.

"Haha. Why did you lie to Jaechan?" I brought up the matter for which I started the conversation. He had no reasons to hide our kinship.

"Lie about what?"

"About our relationship. Why did you tell him that you're my brother in law?" I enquired.

"I just don't want them to know that your own older brother is junior in position to you." A curved line of frown formed over my forehead. He was blabbering gibberish, and I knew that. But, why is he hiding?

"Why wouldn't you want them to know?"

"My man ego would suffer complexities." He replied, sparing me no glances.

"Man ego? The most unbelievable word you can have ever uttered." I scoffed.

"I ain't lying. I am insecure to let people know that my younger sister is basically my boss."

"And a minute ago you said that me being your senior was a greater achievement to you than me." I rolled my eyes, shooting his own delivered words.

"I lied then." He bit his tongue, trying to escape my sight but as much as he knows me, I know him better than him.

"You are indeed lying a lot today. Man's word, an elephant's tusk; is again such a lie. Are you spilling the beans right now or do you want me to pour salt in your coffee tomorrow?!" I threatened him.

"What type of harassment is this?" He mocked.

"Come on! Tell me!"

"Okay! Get to the apartment. I'm telling you." He stopped the car and entered the garage. I waited for him to board off and nagged him, just like him.

"You're so annoying!" He whined.

"You're more. Are you telling me or not? I even got changed into my PJs and yet you haven't spoken a word about it." I complained around his ears.

"Look!" He pulled me close to him, placing his hands on my shoulders. He brushed my hair back, and pushed a falling curve on his lips. He gazed at my face and I rolled my eyes again. He should be speaking and not appreciating the beauty I am.

"Will you even start?"

"Caim." I backed my face from him as he rubbed an invisible circle over my head. He is behaving suspiciously.

"Caim? What's Caim?"

"A Celtic symbol. It's drawn as a protection.  Those burns you hid from me, I knew about them. Do you think the girls got expelled without a reason?

Even today, I hid our kin just so you don't get in trouble. Not many like me there and your position can get affected, since you're just so new in the corporate world.

Never tell them we share a relationship by birth. That will only end up getting you hurt. And this time, it may not just be physically."

"Here I draw a circle of caim, are promise to protect you. Whatever I ever did, whatever I do and all that I will do; is just to keep you safe. Sleep tonight. You've worked well. Goodnight."
