Chapter 39 : Brevity

"Sometimes the bad things of our existence push us towards the best things of the world, that'll ever happen to us."

The one who said that, earned my respect. I was feeling a different experience than any other day as I entered the office building with a fresh mind to kick-start my job.

I saw our new advertisement on the I-display for the first time yesterday. Although I had seen the final video long before, a strange happiness blew it's harmonic whistles in my heart.

When you've been in the dark, you start appreciating anything that shines. Yet not all learn that untill someone shakes them and wakes them up to see the beauty of the dawn.

My youth used to be a candle. It used to glow long back and then it started melting and hurting untill it was reduced to ashes and I was left with a burn.

The positive factor was that the candle had a physical change and could keep glowing again if the wick was replaced.

My wick had burnt off and now, it's replaced by a new one.

Nothing last forever. And so does my peace.

It wasn't even two minutes since I poured myself a cup of coffee, that I heard a high pitched commotion just around the corner of the corridor. I called for my intern and sent her to take a look of it, but I wish, I hadn't asked her to do so.

"I don't know how it's happening." She said.

"You don't know? But weren't you supposed to take the reports yourself?" I controlled my frustration and calmly yet in a rude manner, asked for an explanation of the calamity caused there.

"Ma'am, I swear I had secured it there but they're not listening to me." Her voice begged me to believe in her. Tears were streaming down her cheeks making her eyes red.

"Listen, just answer me what I ask you." I picked her up on her feet and pushed her hair behind her ears.

"O-okay..." She uttered with her sobs interrupting her volume.

"Did you send me you work?" She nodded.

"Did you complete it?"

"I did."

"Okay. What did they tell you?"

"They said that I am fired. Jaechan-ssi has..." I pulled her in a hug as she bit her lips. She was my intern and my responsibility. If Jaechan fired her, then I was the one to answer for her.

"Don't cry, don't cry. Look, if you have sent me and I haven't seen, irrespective of anything, I'd have sent it to my brother. He's much more dutiful about every document, okay? I'm sure he has. Just wait, I'll text him right now." I took out my phone soon after consoling her, but that wasn't close enough to help us.

Incase Jaechan fired her, I'd get a stain on my team's name. She has never failed me while collecting and working on the documents, which is why I believe, the documents weren't lost. They were stolen.

Heeseung has always been quick with stuff and it wasn't even a minute when he sent me the said file with all the other attachments. I am blessed to have him.

I opened the files to look for anything that could cause a disruption. Upon looking at it, I hence came to the conclusion that there was nothing as salient that would require an intern to get fired even if it was her who messed up in the first place.

"There's nothing that could cause you to get fired incase lost. Why is he making such a fuss about it? Girl, look at me! Stop spilling your tears on his insults. They ain't worth them. Come along, I'll set him in his place." I clenched onto my intern's wrist and started marching straight towards the executive committee's meeting room.

I straightened my dress and knocked on the door before entering the room. I was not their junior or subordinate, yet I learnt the courtesy of etiquettes unlike some people here.

"Y/n-ssi! There you are. Did you hear what your intern has caused? You know the loss we'll have because of her? How will you make up the rates?!" Joining him, the whole board started firing allegations worth none of my seconds.

"Will you all please lower your voices down? What's the problem if a certain amount of expenditure record is lost? How does rates go down? Are you all stupid or what?" I didn't let my voice rise any higher than a mellow tone, concentrating on my patience and not my rage.

"What do you mean?" Jaechan's melodic voice sounded plummy and strident to my ears and something got him on my every single nerve today.

"I do not mean anything but the fact that you're hurting your own throat by shouting excessively and unnecessarily. The document only counts the expenditures made during the production of the advertisement, I was leading. It does not state the profit of the ads or the company marketing in general." I spoke tonelessly.

"And also, since you need that so badly, please have it. I have forwarded you the document. My intern stays in the company. If anyone has a word against it, please make sure you have the permission of going against your boss's order." I turned back on my heels and exited with the intern trailing behind.

I had never hated anyone in this company but something just asks me to be cautious of this partner, I have. He tends to mock and taunt me a little too intimately and I am not okay with that.

My elation of being worry free was short lived. If this thing called cloud nine exists, I desperately need it.

"Ma'am..."

"Yes?" I remained gridlocked on my monotonous speech.

"Are you leaving?" She asked with a hinge of fear enveloping her voice.

"Hmm." I hummed.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry for the chaos." She repeated her apology. For an instance, answering her was my least favourable act at the moment but then again, maybe a reply would make the girl have a lighter heart.

I was in a dilemma. I don't remember the last time I was actually good with someone when I was pissed or if my mood was off. I remember to yell and throw hands on whoever it was, even my own brother, when they did something I didn't agree with. But it always ended up me grieving with my guilt.

"Hey, I told you right? It's okay. It's alright to do mistakes. Just know, you'll have me beside you if you believe you weren't wrong. Okay?" I pulled her in a tight hug and felt her warm tears on my chest. It was as if, I could see myself in her position and Addelyn in my position when we were just kids.

I slowly caressed her back and let her sob. She needed to get her emotions out, which she had been building in herself.

"You know ma'am, I am not lying. I really kept the file in the cupboard, where Jaechan sunbae had instructed. I don't know how it... Caught fire." She uttered in between her sobs.

"It's okay. Things can happen. Accidents can happen. Whenever you're done with a document or any project, send it to me. Even if your team changes, even if I quit, you can still send me. I'll review it for any mistakes and I'll also keep it safe." I planted a light bisou on her forehead and reflected a smile, remembering how Heeseung had once told me a similar clause of assurance.

"Get back to your work and don't cry. Bye." Picking up my bag, I trotted towards the exit but was stopped by her, calling out for me once again.

"Yes?"

"I just had one more thing to tell you."

"Go ahead."

"I think somebody is purposefully trying to sabotage your work. That wasn't an accident. It was a controlled fire, and I assume that you should watch out for yourself." Saying so, she bowed to me and I nodded. She walked back inside the office and I took my steps out to catch a bus and head to somewhere I hadn't decided.

I sat on an empty seat and thought about her, repeatedly. It wasn't like she was wrong neither was I able to assume someone as a foe in disguise.

I dwelled with my uncertain feelings on her one certain sentence and boarded off the bus, not realising what I was wondering about.

"Noona?" I was zoned out and suddenly heard Sunoo calling me from behind. I hadn't understand that I reached Shinchon bus stop.

"You're here? At this hour?" He had his grey coat folded neatly in his hands and his slinky white shirt kissed all the curves on his body like the helmet on a Scandinavian hero.

"Yeah! I took off." I replied.

"Great! My work just ended for today."

"Hey! I don't have anything to do and it's just 11:00 in the morning. Do you think, you'd like to work on Tesser, with me? I mean, teach me a little more about it?" I pleaded in a loud voice.

"Shs! Don't declare it so loudly. Of course, I will. Let's go to the lab." We had to walk to Sunoo's apartment since he hadn't taken his car to school today. We set off towards Addelyn's apartment, around a minute fifteen away.

In the mesh of my responsibilities and work, I had forgotten about the project Sunoo had been doing in secrecy. Right now, Addelyn was in a serious point in her PhD course and might be able to complete her Thesis in the following year. Soobin didn't want to take the opportunity of getting a higher executive position from our company, but Sunoo convinced him to focus on his life a little more. And Yeonjun is recently overwhelmed with the number of hours he's working.

All this time, Sunoo was doing it alone and I knew how many scribbles he did because of that notebook I saw in his hands in my old work place.

"Come in!" I followed him inside the lab, which I had ghosted around 6 months ago. I couldn't spot much changes since then, except the fact that Addie must have lost several of her hairbands and scrunchies here. They all were in the minute corners of the room.

"Addie lost a lot of stuff here." I collected her stuff on the table in the corner and dusted the device with the gabardine inside my bag, I carry for the same purpose on my workstation.

"I haven't come here for some while. I would instruct and Addie noona did everything over the phone."

"Explains why it's so exceptionally dirty." I mocked my bestie.

"So... What are we doing?" He asked. He had no ideas about what he has been doing and I doubt if he's doing anything anymore.

"I don't know. Tell me what you've been doing while I didn't focus."

"I've been trying to get the meta value of the body weight and light refraction to open the portals but no matter how many pages I use, it just happens to go on and on and on."

"Non terminating decimal, is it?" I asked.

"It hasn't reached the decimal point yet. That's what I need. I remember, there was this certain calculation my sister had regarding this. And there, the number would end with an exact 0 point something. I think the calculation ended on a 10 to the power -60 or -70. That calculation is were the body weight matches the light. If only we can get that first equation." He bit his lips and controlled his desperate yearning to find out the solution.

"How do we get the calculation?" I tried to maintain my calm as I started thinking of all the possible ways to do a sum, I wasn't well aware of.

"I don't know. But a guess says, the equation can be derived only by the final solution of that sum which that professor a year ago had given me, and we failed. That's the derivation and I'm sure of that. The diagram was turning into a tesseract." He was a quiescent iyan about the things we lost, about the things we can not have back, yet I was determined to heal the eccedentesiast in him.

I momentarily paused before suggesting him. "We can solve that."

"We have lost the question." Saying so, he heaved a sigh that sojourned in his heart and head.

"Who said?"

"Hmm?"

"I still have that."

So some of you knew how hard it was for me to comply these ideas into one chapter
But yeah, I've managed to do that.

Infact, I missed a class because my brain was working just right now.

Now the story should turn to the second twist and I hope it'll be around some chapters later.

We're finally reaching it and I'm already so hyped up. Maybe, we'll have a total 60 chapters.

Also, I'm a little sad because a few people who were reading this and poured hate on Y/n.
Now that's not gonna stop me, because I don't care
But my Characters are like my babies and whenever I get hate, it's just on Y/n.

I promise, our Y/n can be a little arrogant and naive but she's not stupid and weak.
None of my Y/n's are.

I hope, those who have continued till now understand Y/n's importance.
Thank you.
