Chapter 48 : Heir

A screech hit my eardrums when the call ended. There ain't nobody, I'll seek through the whole night and bleed to satisfy. There ain't nobody, I'll lay upon the chest and give all of my best. There ain't nobody for whom I'll fight through the collapsing life. There ain't nobody but her.

Hell is like where the world seems to fall apart, and everything becomes too overwhelming and feels as though we want to crawl out of our body. We want to feel anything, any feeling, any pain, as opposed to our emotions.

To get a better idea of what it feels like, close your eyes and picture this. Your ribs are being snapped off one by one. Your wrists itch and everytime you scratch, the itch gets worse. All the while someone hits your chest with a hammer as though trying to break you. Everyone is trying to talk to you and you try to tell them to stop, but they just get louder.

That is how I was feeling. I was feeling as if the gypsum plaster, used for furnishing the rough walls around me, was falling down. As if that wretched Plaster of Paris was cascading with a fungi all behind with an increasing damp.

People become irrational, inconsolably upset, sometimes violent, or impulsive. Often times it leads to various ways of self harm and can cause lasting damage not only physically, but mentally.

All I knew was that I was not having a good time with life. All I knew was that I was crying for help but no one could hear it. All I knew was that people were lending helping hands and I didn't have hands. All I knew was that there was light but I was blind.

All I knew was that my Y/n was being tortured behind that screen that coruscated the light on the walls.

"Hyung!" Heeseung disintegrated on the floor, shivering with the impact of the screech. Holding him with all of my strength, I grabbed a cushion from the sofa to support his body.

"Hyung..."

"It's okay. It's fine. I'm fine." Trembling with a choked voice, his eyes bled a river. His straight gaze followed every direction and he tried to stabilise his body, putting strength on his back.

"You're not okay-"

"Sunoo, move apart from me. Go to the kitchen, right now. I'm fine, I said." Under his tone, he breathed heavily and paused me mid-sentence. I tried to be steady there but he was adamant. Feeling helpless, I motioned my feet towards the kitchen.

I watched him struggle to get up and realised, he hadn't slept well. His eyes were swollen and beneath them the dark bags of stress was palpably visible. He wasn't just shivering because of Y/n's cry but also because he was exhausted.

I wanted to reach out for him but kept my feet unmoved when my eyes fell upon a ray of red, fluorescent light. A beam was targeting on Heeseung and Heeseung had understood the aim way before I did.

But, I can't let anything happen to him as well. My sister loved him.

"Argh!" He fell on the floor and groaned. He was tiring himself more but that light stayed focused on him. I bent down under the kitchen slab and looked for a weapon. Anything that could save him.

"Shit! Not a goddamn thing." I hissed under my breath as the beam gained my attraction again. It had grown stronger and was blinding my sight. I couldn't keep my eyes looking at it when the thin glass on the living room window shattered to pieces and a bullet fired straight at me.

My brain froze. I could understand. I could realise everything. But my brain had lost control over my nerves.

My whole life flashed Infront of my eyes. From the time when my sister used to tell me stories of princes to the time I was beaten. I saw my foster sister, my noona and her. I saw the time when I had first met Y/n and then, it felt like my death kissed me right on time.

"Get down!" A sudden pull yanked me below the slab and everything went silent. My eyes had shut themselves, ready for dying but I felt my body intact.

"I have let Suwon down. I will not repeat my mistake." A husky voice reverberated in my ears and I shot my eyes open to see Heeseung lying just next to me and his red eyes, staring in my soul.

I nodded in a response. I didn't know what else to say but maintain silence and look up at him.

"Be quiet and pretend to be dead. If that saves you right now. They'll barge in the house." I was about to ask a question but chose to remain silent, and closely listened to the echoing footsteps climbing up the stairs. The knob of the door twisted aggressively and we knew that it had been unlock the whole time.

"Hold your breath in." Heeseung pushed aside and coughed. The light from the street entered their lugubrious room through the broken window, when I spotted tiny sparks of glass had pierced through his skin and, he was bleeding.

I kept my eyes partly closed and saw a sturdy figure break through the door with a ray emitting from the long nozzle of his submachine gun. Heeseung purposefully showcased the existing life in his breast and the man jerked his weak body as fatally as possible.

"Leave me!" Heeseung breathed heavily.

"If I were to leave you, I wouldn't try to kill your partner." The man spat on his face yet he didn't flinch his eyes contact.

"What will you do if I say existence is defined with the number of sources you have?" Hysterically laughing, his satirical look flashed at the baffled man.

"What... What do you mean." Stuttered the intruder.

"I'm the son of the man who hired you, Jacob. What do you think, I didn't recognise you? I have known you ever since I changed my subject."

Another laugh it was until a deafening noise of a bullet firing, echoed in the room and I saw the body of Jacob collapse right next to Heeseung. A puddle of blood spill on the floor and my heart came out in the grasp on my hands.

"Hyung!" I screamed in fear.

"Calm down. It's me, Addelyn." The noise rolled down and my eyes navigated towards the clicking sound of combat boots that approached us. Showing her slender figure, Addelyn walked in with a complete different sketch than what I had seen.

Black gloves on her hands and a brown leather jacket, she opened her helmet and swirled her long, brown hair.

"Addie noona?" I was dumbfounded.

"Yes. Get up!" She pulled me up on my feet and helped Heeseung sit up.

"But..."

"I know what you're thinking. Before we even start talking of it, get to Y/n's cupboard and bring me the first aid kit. Heeseung needs his wounds to be dressed." I ran to the cupboard and brought out the transparent box with a blue lid, knowing that Heeseung's body was more important.

I watched Addelyn prick out the glass shreds from Heeseung's skin and band aid them. Heeseung quaked as Addelyn removed his white, linen shirt and wrapped the long bandage over his wounds.

I knew that Heeseung has strong but I never realised that his body was so well toned with a mellitus colour raging them. Like a bull, his sharp eyes fired with red and his body reflected saffron tattoos of dried scars.

"Now, explain." I demanded an explanation of everything that happened.

"Look, it all started when my father was struggling to keep his job intact and I had a high loan. I had met Heeseung in the States, in a park. I hardly had a room to study. Heeseung hired me to protect Y/n and offered to help my father out financially. I trained to use a gun, a sword and even Taekwondo for a year; in exchange of financial services." Addelyn started.

"I didn't come to Korea for nothing. I came at a cost. I didn't want to be friends with the girl everyone hated. I had no urge to know her. I was obliged. But then I fell for her. She became my hiraeth and the condition Heeseung had set, became my motto." Addelyn explained.

"Addie, do me a favour."

"Yes?"

"Make the police ready. It's a do or die conundrum. I can't ask you to come along. You're your dad's only child. Do something that will benefit me and keep you safe." Heeseung commanded. Addelyn said not a word against him and agreed immediately.

Heeseung stumbled on his feet but walked to his bedroom with his diary in his hands and all that I could do was sit and stare.

I saw Addelyn wear her gloves again and clean the glass shreds. I bent down to help her but my main ambition was to make her speak more about Heeseung.

Heeseung is a fish of deep waters, living in the shallows. He's much more than any of our sister's knowledge and that knowledge which he has is far more fatal.

Everything that he knows runs the lives of Addelyn and Y/n, and even mine, at the cost of scarring him.

"Addie," Her gaze turned towards me as I started my questionaire.

"What is Heeseung's secret?"

"Secret? I don't... I don't know." Addelyn bit her tongue, lying through her teeth.

"Don't lie to me. Addelyn Ardolf, you know him more than I do and only you can tell me all that my sister did not." I shot a glare at her and waited for her answer.

"Is Y/n your sister now? I thought I saw you two kiss that day."

"First thing, don't change the topic. Second thing, no, she's not my sister. My sister is Suwon."

"You mean Professor Sugeun's late daughter? And... You're the dear son?" She looked puzzled by my revelation but perplexity surrounded me more than her. I was his dear son?

"Yes."

"Wait. This might sound crazy and we all exist in a pathetic world but, if you're that very Sunoo then Suwon should have been Heeseung's girlfriend... Or kinda girlfriend."

"She was. Please get back to the point."

"Aah... Right! You see, when Heeseung first appointed me, it was a coincidence. I just happened to be the girl who apparently matched all criteria his sister needed. I didn't know of his family until two days maybe. I was over the call with Y/n and she set me up to look for his family background. I am really unaware of his secret." She confessed.

My lips were about to part for another question but I was stopped in between, for a husky tone interrupted and I immediately knew that it belonged to none other than Heeseung. Both our heads turned to face the man who had now changed his ragged shirt to a black one. His hands were covered with a familiar glove, one which I had seen Y/n wear, and his craspy and bleeding lips made him look exactly like Y/n. Just the hazel shade of the eyes were missing.

"Sunoo, you are involved in a tale that started with your sister and you, my sister and me. It included other characters on a go, on the way, but what a destiny! The person I hate is torturing the only person I love. That person tortured my other love and here it goes, repeating itself.

We all come on earth with a purpose. Some with a futile attempt and some with boulders of triumph. Some of us are just angels in disguise, like your sister, like you and Addelyn. Most of us are a little of both good and bad but some in this category are dangerous and sadistic and cruel. Like Y/n.

Sunoo that company, I know your sister talked of, belongs to Lee Hyunseung. Some of us are satans. Some of us are monsters. Some of us are demons in disguise. Like Sugeun, your father. Like Lee Hyunseung and..."

"And?"

"And the heir of the LCMB group, Me."
