Chapter 5 : Don't leave me.

"Don't leave me...",was the last thing, she heard him say.

The rain was now pouring buckets with dark skies. It was already 5:30 but the setting sun was hidden behind the sheet of black and grey moisture laden clouds.

Rain produces a sound akin to white noise. The brain gets a tonic signal from white noise that decreases this need for sensory input, thus calming us down.

But at the current situation, it felt nothing more than melancholy surrounding around the quiet boy who sat on the backseat.

The lanes which Y/n took earlier was way too narrow for a car to fit in. The highways had a rush of other cars and cabs, hurrying to their destination.

The rain was nostalgic to him. He missed his own noona and now his new noona.

For some people, this rain is the source of joy, say the farmers or even a couple dancing in the wet. But for some, it was nothing but a spray of nostalgia and loneliness.

"Umm... So, what was your subject?" Asked Addelyn trying to ease the situation.

The girl could very well understand that the boy was oblivious of the country's culture and people and the only person he unusually developed a trust on, had now dumped him to her friend's.

She felt sorry for him but her best friend had her own demons to fight. For her to maintain her own expenses as well as look after a grown up guy was not a piece of cake.

Atleast Addelyn had enough budget to provide the guy with a shelter and necessities. Y/n would require to work three jobs to sustain both their lives.

"Hello? What did you study?" Asked Addelyn for the second time, bringing him back to the reality.
"Me? I studied Quantum physics and mechanical engineering." Said Sunoo.
"Quantum physics and mechanical engineering? My gosh! How old were you again?" She exclaimed.
" Root twenty five multiplied by root thirty six minus ten plus two..." Said Sunoo.
"How did you complete all courses in such a small period of time?" Addelyn balled her eyes at him without looking at him.

"Quantum physics was a 6 years course and mechanical engineering was 1 and a half." Said Sunoo.
"You wanna say, you started college at the same of 15?"
"17. I completed mechanical engineering while studying Quantam Physics."
"Are you some robot?" This was unusual for Addelyn.

"I would be if noona didn't replace me with her."
"Y/n?"
"Nah, my own sister. Older sister." Corrected Sunoo.

Addelyn's face was horrified. Did he just say he would be a robot? Oh wait, wasn't he even delivered inside a carton? Is he even a human?

"I know it's unusual for you and I could understand that as soon as I told some of this to Y/n noona. She herself was blank."
"So wasn't it tough to study both at the same time?" Asked Addelyn changing the topic.

"No. We studied mechanical engineering from 3rd. It was almost like a repeation and there, everyone has to study mechanical engineering for straight up 7 years, till 10th. It's a mandatory subject for science students."
"I would have been bald by now." Gasped Addelyn.
"Tsk! that's how hard life is in the 32nd century..." Said Sunoo, chuckling uninterestedly.

Another minute passed by without a single word, filled with an uneasy tranquility.

"So, you both are in the same class?" Asked Sunoo.
"Mhm..."
"What are you studying?"
"Mechanical Physics." Said Addelyn.

....

The clock ticked to half past five as the car stopped infront of the Apartment Kkum.
Addelyn unlocked the car doors to let Sunoo out ,and proceeded parking it.

"Come on." She smiled, taking Sunoo up those neat corridors, to her block.

"Alright, so you see that room, I've arranged it. You can stay there." She said, opening the door. "And if you need anything, just press 368 on that number pad. I'll reply." She was pointing at a red cubical pad with numbered blocks.

"Okay..."
"Here's your stuff. I've already put soaps and shampoos inside the bathroom and do you need anything else?" She asked.
"Can I have a pen and a notebook?" He said hesitantly.
"Yeah sure. I'll get you that. Suit yourself." she said, running to her room as he closed the door behind him.

He let his body fall flat on the puffy bed with a light crimson bedspread. The pillows were a grey and scarlet ombre, looking fresh. It felt as if Addelyn had changed all the covers the very day.

The room wasn't a very intricate one. It had a simple shade of teal with a rough texture. The windows were large with green curtains. There was a small cupboard, barely enough for fitting two guitars, when placed symmetrically.

The ceiling had a black propeller fan which had a LED flash in the centre. It was rotating with a whiring sound.

Sunoo's eyes looked straight into the fan that was rotating over his head.

"The fan...
It's not installed correctly. That side is bulging towards the window. It can fall off with a speed of a 30cm/s²." Thought Sunoo.

As he was trying to measure the fixation time duration, a slight knock broke his concentration.

"Umm... Sunoo, your notebook." Said Addelyn as Sunoo opened the door.
"Thank you."
"Do you need anything else?"
"Not now. If I do, I'll tell you." Said Sunoo, plastering a forced smile.
"Okay, goodnight." She turned around to leave.

I closed the door and walked straight to the main door of my apartment, not even looking at him.

I don't want to do that but I have no choices. I don't know why I'm behaving like this after ages.

I don't sympathize with anyone. I have seen people die. I have seen families break. I have seen people suffer yet I never had the urge to help them.

I have walked past a dieing mother in her labour. Addelyn had stopped by to help her push the baby out but I... I had went far by the time the baby cried.

I know how the people there had given me judgemental stares but you know what? When you have seen your own mother beg to people for some money, some food so that she can feed her babies and no one helped, you become a devil with no emotions.

She couldn't feed us, she couldn't provide us with a shelter and so she stood as our roof in the harsh rain of 2104,while we slept with no worries.

I wasn't this, nah, I wasn't. I have been changed to this. Sigh, my brother never changed, he's still that, good boy with respect for everyone.

But look at me, Lee Y/n, who never even gave one cap of water to a dieing human, was now searching for a roof for a homeless boy, who says that he's from the future, a new dimension.

I seriously don't believe the trash he said but his words and face haunts me. It has been like an hour since I came back but I didn't enter the building. I was sitting outside, not knowing why.

The last thing I heard him say was "Don't leave me."

"Y/n-ah? What you doing here? Come in." My brother, opened the main door.
"Mhm..." I hummed, getting up and walking with him to my apartment.
"Go get changed. I have so much to say you."
"Okay."I said with another sigh.

Getting changed into some comfortable shorts and tees, I walked to the living room, where Heesung was sitting, smiling at his phone.

He noticed my presence and immediately kept his phone down, beckoning me to go sit beside him.

"You wanted to say something?" I said, with an awkwardly dull face.
"Yeah. So you remember Jungwon? My school friend?" H started.
"Mhm... that cutie with dimples." I said, remembering the face of the slightly older guy.
"Yeah. So he..."
"It's not a marriage proposal right?" I got concerned for Heesung generally doesn't talk about his colleagues and friends.
"Cha! Of course not. I'm not getting you married so fast."
"That's fine then." I sighed in relief.

"Whatever, so back to the topic. Umm... What was I saying?" He said, forgetting the topic he just started.
"Jungwon..."
"Yeah, so he has started his own startup and needs someone who can make a good advertisement for his services." He said.

"So what do you want me to do?"
"You're an advertisement student. Can't you do that? He said he'd pay $10,000 dollar per advertisement."
"A ten thousand?" I said with dismay.
"Yeah. If you can successfully fulfill his demands, I think you can quit your jobs as the waitress and barista." He said with expectant eyes.

The offer wasn't a bad one. But that wouldn't sustain my expenses for long. I'd get $10,000 bills per advertisement but if he wants only one then quiting the jobs will be a foolish act.

"And what will happen when he no more wants an advertisement? How will I pay the expenses?" I asked with a cocked eyebrow.
"I knew you'd ask that. So, you'll not need to work anymore. I'll pay for both you and me. But since you can't sit at one place, I offered the proposal." He said.

"How will you pay for both of us? Your salary is barely keeping your body and soul together."
"I have been promoted."
"What? You joking?"
"No! My pay has been increased to 2,163,510 KRW." He said, nodding his head brightly.
"That's a drastic change." I said, partly amazed.
"Yeah. So you need not work as a waitress if you don't want to." Said my brother.

I sat back with awe spread on my face. My brother was now going to make around $1800.

As I was busy imagining his pay, a thought ran across my mind. What if I ask him about arranging a small house for Sunoo and maybe even a job so that he doesn't need to be dependent on either me or Addie.

"Hey, Heesung." I said.
"Mhm?" He was smiling to himself.
"Can you arrange a house? A small one also works."
"House? Do you wanna change this place?"
"No, not for me. A friend. He needs a house and also a job. So, I was wondering, maybe you could..."
"Oh! Yeah sure. I'll look for residential places. What's his budget?" He asked.
"The cheapest if you can." I said, remembering that it has to be me who'll be paying.

"Hmm... has to be Seoul?" He asked.
"Wherever you get the cheapest one." I said.
"Gwanju has the cheapest accomodation facilities. I lowest comes at $200." Said Heesung.
"Okay. Then look for one there. And jobs." I said, trying to keep it as believable as possible.
"What's his subject?" He asked.
"Subject? I don't know the subject." I said.

I hadn't thought of asking him his educational background before.

"Oh! No problem. I'll first arrange the house and then maybe, we can meet him." He said with a smile.

I returned him that smile, heading straight inside my room where I fell flat on the bed.

I was looking at the whiring ceiling fan which reminded me of him. He was laying flat on my bed and rolling occasionally that time in the morning.

The bedspread smelt like him.

"Don't leave me." My brain was repeating his words over and over again and no matter how hard I try, I can't shrugg them off.

"I am helpless Sunoo. I'm sorry. Heesung used to make $1200 and spending $600 of it on my tutions, would leave him with barely enough money to sustain his life. I'd work two jobs to sustain mine and admist that, I couldn't have afforded to keep you well. But, I'll try to pay $200 for your apartment every month. I'd still need to work two jobs for both of us." I sighed, closing my eyes only to see him smile...
