Change of plans... the Avatar arc and Tartarus arc, in this universe, has been moved up a couple years.

Three Weeks Later

"So, what's this mission?" Artemis asked as she peered over Lucy's shoulder.

"It says we need to go and find a book that was lost some time ago." Lucy explained as she read over the paper. "It says it's a dangerous book, but..."

"Let's do it!" Natsu interrupted enthusiastically.

"Aye!" Happy added from his spot on Artemis's head.

"Okay." Lucy said with a shrug. "The good news is we can probably walk from here... the book is supposed to have been last seen by an a dried up river... apparently, the owner of the book said he would go get it himself, but he's on his death bed."

"Let's leave now." Artemis suggested. "It's the warmest part of the day."

"Yeah!" Natsu added. "The sun is shining, the birds are singing... plus the food stands will be open!"

"Natsu, you destroyed all the food stands last week, remember?" Artemis sighed. Natsu frowned.

"Oh, yeah."

The four walked down a dirt path. Natsu had managed to find a restaurant, and was currently devouring a bucket of turkey, while Happy was chewing on a fish, floating beside them with white angelic wings.

"When do you think Gramps is gonna tell us who's in the Grand Magic Games?" Natsu wondered aloud, and Artemis frowned.

"What are the Grand Magic Games?"

"They're a guild tournament." Happy explained. "A bunch of magic guilds from around Fiore compete in a bunch of challenges to decided what guild is the best."

"Fairy Tail won last year, obviously." Natsu added.

Lucy looked at Artemis. "Hey, Artemis, what did you mean when you said you needed a family?"

Artemis stiffened. "I don't like to remember that."

Lucy cast a sympathetic look at her, but continued to walk in silence.

Happy frowned. "Hey, Natsu, does this feel familiar to you?"

"What?" Natsu finished his food and tossed the bucket over his shoulder. He frowned as well. "Yeah, it does... when have we been here before?"

"Let's just split up and look for the darn book." Artemis said. "The riverbed is right there." she gestured to a small canyon, that had signs of a river once running through it.

"Okay." said Lucy. "I'll check on this side." She slid down the side of the river bed awkwardly, almost falling over, before reaching the ground. Artemis did the same, however she did it gracefully.

Natsu and Happy were still thinking. "This feels so familiar." Happy muttered.

Natsu nodded. "Yeah..." he rubbed his neck under his scarf. "But where have we seen it bef-" his eyes widened as he felt the scar on his neck. "Aw crud."

Artemis, her eyes raking the ground found the book they were looking for: a book with what looked like a four-leaf-clover on the cover, with mini hearts inside the leaves. The title was 'Memory Days'. She opened it up, curious about what was inside.

Natsu bolted down the riverbed, Happy on his heels. "ARTEMIS!! PUT THAT BOOK DOWN!" Natsu screamed.

Lucy looked over, and she when she saw what book Artemis was holding, followed Natsu. "ARTEMIS!"

"What?" Artemis asked, looking up right as the three grabbed her arm, trying to make her let go. However, they were to late. The open book began to glow a bright purple.

"What the-" Artemis managed before the purple light shot into the air with brilliant shine, and then the four were gone.

They appeared in a massive city; a city with electricity.

Natsu stood up. "What... the heck...."

Lucy looked around in horror. "Oh no... it happened again..."

"What?" Artemis asked as she began to realize where they were."Are we in... Gotham?!"

"The past." Lucy corrected. "So, yeah, I guess past...'Gotham'."

"Why?"

"The book, it makes you back in time to a moment you don't want to remember." Lucy explained. "When you opened it... and after you said you didn't like to remember your family... it brought us here."

"Why you three?"

"Because we were touching you at the time." Happy said.

"We'll be here for six hours." Lucy added. "Then you'll be sent back, and in order for us to come with you, we have to be in contact with your skin."

"WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!" Natsu yelled, pointing at a mustang as it drove past, his eyes wide.

"That's a car." Artemis said.

"It looks kind of like a magic mobile." Happy commented.

"What's that?" Lucy asked, looking at a gas station.

"That's what you put in cars to make them work." Artemis explained. "Now, come on, we shouldn't let anyone see us. I think I know a clothing store around here. It should be there by now, with any luck."

As they walked down the street, Natsu continued to look around, staring in awe at planes flying overhead and the occasional puff of black smoke from a factory. "This place is weird..."

"It's also dangerous." Artemis warned. "I'm not sure if Batman is around yet, so there might be a bunch of crime."

Natsu slammed his fist into his palm. "So? We can deal with some petty thieves!"

"No, you can't!" Artemis protested. "If anyone sees you use your powers, they'll either have scientists experiment on you, or worse! Because I know the Justice League isn't around yet!"

Natsu looked at her like she was crazy. "If someone's in trouble, I'm gonna help! That's how it is!"

Lucy smiled.

Artemis looked ahead. "Thank God!" she breathed. "It's here!" It was a Macy's store, with a banner hanging up with the words 'GRAND OPENING' written across it.

The four walked in, and as Artemis pushed the door open, a ding dong sounded, and Natsu jumped.

Artemis eyes Happy. "Happy, pretend to be a stuffed animal." she breathed. "Natsu, hold him."

Happy opened his mouth to refuse, but quickly thought better of it when he saw Artemis's death glare. Reluctantly, he did as she said.

An employee saw them walk in. "Hello!" she said brightly, clearly not trying to give away any signs that she was incredibly shocked at their odd clothing. "Can I help you with anything?"

Artemis shook her head. "We're fine." she said with a forced polite smile. The clerk nodded.

"Is there a cosplay convention or something?" She asked.

"Uh... yeah." Artemis replied. "We're from... uh, Chain Yokai!" She said, saying the first anime that popped into her head that she knew existed at this point. The clerk smiled, before walking off.

"Okay, Natsu," Artemis said as they reached the Men's section. "Find something you like."

Natsu nodded, still clutching Happy, and wandered through the section.

Lucy looked at Artemis. "This place is really advanced...." she muttered. Artemis shrugged.

"This city runs on electri-blue lightning." she corrected herself when she saw Lucy's confused look.

"That what gives it so much power?" she asked, and Artemis nodded.

Natsu came back to them, a black under amour shirt and dark blue jeans slung over his shoulder, and orange Vans in his hand.

"Okay," Artemis said slowly. "Now go and ask that lady if she have a stall to try them on." Natsu nodded, before turning around marching to a woman sitting at the desk with changing rooms behind her.

"Okay, now let's get our stuff!" Lucy said excitedly. "Where's the Women's section?"

Artemis led her about ten feet to said section, and Lucy's eyes lit up as she darted dashing through the clothes. Artemis rolled her eyes, before picking out a tank top and a green jacket, with blue jeans.

After she was changed, she realized they didn't have any money. Or did they... Artemis put her hands into her boots that she kept and grunted in triumph as she found her stash of money.

As she walked out, Artemis saw Lucy in a pink, frilly top, with a white skirt.

"LOOK AT ME!" Lucy and Natsu announced at the same moment. Lucy and Artemis both looked at Natsu, who had managed to find them. She also noticed he still had his scarf.

"You two look... nice." Artemis said. "Let's check out." She, followed by the other two paid the cashier, then walked out of the store.

Lucy hugged her arms. "How did it get so cold, so fast?" she chattered.

Natsu and Artemis shrugged. "I don't feel anything." they both said.

"Well, Natsu is Natsu and Artemis, you have a jacket!"

"Let's just go find my stupid memory before we get stuck here." Artemis suggested.

Lucy and Artemis walked side by side, Lucy shivering. Artemis sighed.

"You'll be fine, it's only, like, 20 degrees."

"That's below freezing!"

"Natsu isn't cold." Artemis pointed out. She looked around. "Wait- where'd he go?!"

Lucy's eyes widened in panic. "W-we have to find him before the six hours are up!" she said fearfully.

"We will." Artemis reassured her. "Let's split up. You go left, I'll go right, call me with..." she looked around, and spotted a flip phone on the ground. "Only in Gotham." She muttered as she put her number in it (She kept her phone from 2011) and gave it to Lucy. After showing her how to use it, Artemis ran off in the direction she said she would.

Meanwhile, Natsu, with his dragon hearing, had heard screaming. He raced around the corner to see three men cornering a nine year old boy with black hair.

"Oh, so you're a rich kid, aren't you?" One of them asked.

The kid nodded stiffly, his eyes wide in fear.

"Well, I bet your daddy would pay good money for you." The man continued with a wicked smile.

Natsu gritted his teeth as he ran towards the men. "Get away from that kid!" He yelled as he swung a fist at one of the men's head, sending him into the wall.

The other two looked at each other. One of them brought out a switch blade, and began to slice at Natsu.

Natsu, however, dodged with ease, and caught his fist. He bent it back, and the man screamed. Natsu punched him in the head, knocking him out.

"Don't move." the last man snarled, and Natsu turned around to see he had a gun pressed to the kid's neck. Even though the kid was struggling with all his might, it was useless. "Don't come any closer... or I'll blow his head off."

Natsu narrowed his eyes. "Oh will you now?" He said dangerously, and the man shifted from foot to foot uneasily. Natsu puffed up his cheeks.

"ROAR OF THE FIRE DRAGON!!" A swirl of fire blasted out of Natsu's mouth, knocking the man backwards. Miraculously, it missed the boy.

The boy ran over to Natsu, and looked up at him. "Thank you!" he said.

"No problem, kid." Natsu replied. "Where's your dad?" The kid chuckled nervously.

"I, erm, kind of snuck out..." Natsu sighed.

"Nice one, buddy..."

The kid suddenly had a determined look in his bright blue eyes.

"One day, I'm gonna help people, just like you!" he said, and Natsu blinked.

"What's your name?" He asked.

"My name is Dick Grayson, sir!"

Natsu ruffled Dick's hair. "Well, I'm sure you'll be a great hero." He said. Dick grinned widely.

"Go to one of the stores and ask them to call your Dad." Natsu suggested, and started to walk off.

"I'll make you proud, sir!" The kid yelled after him.

Natsu smiled.

And then Lucy saw him.

"NATSU!! WHY DID YOU SNEAK OFF!?" she yelled, but Natsu's smile didn't falter.

As Artemis looked for Natsu, she didn't realize she was in her old neighborhood.

Artemis sighed. Then she saw it.

Her apartment building.

Artemis's breath hitched, and as if by an invisible force, began to climb the fire escape ladder up to where her and her sister's room used to be, and looked through the window.

A teenager with black hair came into the room with a duffle bag, with her little sister sitting on the bed.

"Please, please don't go!" 11-year old Artemis choked out, terrified the last person that was remotely decent to her was leaving.

"Sorry sis," Her sister, Jade, said without turning around as she began to pack her things. "Mom's not getting out of prison any time soon, and I refuse to live in this house with just Dad."

"Dad and you and me." Young Artemis corrected hopefully, hugging her stuffed bear. "We have to keep this family from falling apart!"

Jade paused, and turned around to study her little sister for a moment. Then she slapped her forehead. "Toothbrush, duh!" She muttered. "I knew I was forgetting something." She walked into the bathroom, and came out with said item.

"Dad will come after you." Young Artemis whispered, tears threatening to spill.

"Let him come," Jade said. "I'll disappear, like the Cheshire cat." She paused with her hand on the doorknob. "I'd let you come with me," she whispered. Then she shrugged, and added casually, "But you'd slow me down."

"Someone has to be here when Mom gets out." Young Artemis replied defiantly. Jade shook her head and sighed.

"Haven't you learnt anything? In this family, it's every girl for herself."

And just like that, her only sister was gone.

Young Artemis began to cry, holding her stuffed bear tighter, and Artemis covered her mouth with her hand. This was the memory...

Her phone began to ring loudly.

Young Artemis wiped her eyes and turned towards the window. "Hello?" She whispered.

Artemis quickly pulled up her hood, hoping her younger self wouldn't see her face. She answered her phone. "What, Lucy?" She hissed.

"It's almost been six hours." Lucy was panting, like she was running. "Where are you?"

"Sprang Boulevard 302."

"Can you meet us on the ground?"

"Sure." Artemis hung up, and looked at her younger self one last time to see her there by the window, looking at her.

"Who are you?" she whispered. Artemis opened and closed her mouth, before finally settling on an answer.

"I'm a hero."

Artemis hit the ground running. "Lucy! Natsu! Happy!" she yelled.

"Artemis!" She saw Natsu rounding the corner, Lucy and Happy just behind him.

Artemis ran towards them, and she felt herself starting to glow. "HURRY!" she screeched, and jumped, and so did the others.

Only their fingers- and paw - touched, but that was enough.

They all hit the floor back in the guild hall.

"Artemis? Lucy, Natsu?" Mirajane was looking over them with concern written on her face.

"Don't forget about me!" Happy huffed.

"I thought you went to go look for that book?" Mirajane asked after apologizing to Happy.

"Lucy had to go to the bathroom." Natsu blurted out the first excuse that came to his mind.

Mirajane dropped the subject. "Well, you must not have heard then!"

"Heard what?" asked Artemis.

Mirajane grinned.

"You three are in The Grand Magic Games!"

In an OVA of Fairy Tail, Erza, Gray, Lucy, Happy and Natsu went back in time to discover how Natsu got his scar, which is how they know about the book.
