14 || escape from the first order
"DID YOU TWO SEE THAT?! DID YOU SEE THAT!"
STAR DESTROYER, FIRST ORDER-
In theory, this was all just a prisoner escort.
In reality, Kyra was being fake shoved down a hallway, the trooper on her right side, holding his blaster, Poe on her left. He was still dressed in that stupid general outfit, his curly hair sticking out from under the hat. His hand was resting on her back to try and keep her upright so she didn't collapse on him again. Every once in a while Kyra would glance over at him and see the nervous look in his eyes as he tried to maintain a calm face as they walked down the hallway.
Groups of troopers would pass by them, all of them surprised at the fact that Kyra was out in the open. But whenever she could sense that the two men she was with would get uneasy, she would simply glower in the trooper's way, and they'd all scatter.
Hallway after hallway blended together until they reached the hangar, the claustrophobic feeling that the darkly covered hallways gave off giving way to an open expansive space. Kyra could see the stars from here, and the rest of the galaxy. All of that was only one prison break away.
"Move it." The trooper accompanying Poe shoved his blaster into Kyra's shoulder, making her wince. Poe immediately dropped his hand from her back with this motion, realizing that there were many more people around them then there were in the secluded hallways.
"I know where to go, genius." Kyra hissed, still upset at the fact that he hit her with the backside of his blaster. The three marched straight past a group of colonels in training, and Kyra eyed them carefully, stopping in her tracks for a moment.
"Why are we stopping?" Poe whispered to her, trying to keep himself from looking as unsuspicious as possible. He gave a quick glance at Kyra, who just motioned her head to the left. Ah, that made more sense.
"C'mon." The trooper whispered, the three of them running to the doorway that would lead them to the TIE fighter loading area. Staring at the door in front of him, the trooper sighed, seeing there was a keypad in front of it. "It's locked."
"No it isn't." Kyra sighed, pressing on the coded door and whispering in her 6 digit numerical call sign. Within seconds, the doors whooshed open, revealing the loading areas for each of the TIE fighters, and the staircases to access the ones higher up.
"Thought they would have disabled your code by now." Poe remarked, surprised that the doors had worked and opened for them. Now they were granted access to the darkly painted TIE fighter hangar entrance, three TIE fighters stacked against each other in the small space.
"I've only been a traitor for a few days. The one good thing about the First Order being slow is that our IT and mainframe take forever to clear out someone's access codes, especially if you're as high up as I was." Kyra laughed, already breaking away from the two men and bounding up the stairs to the TIE fighter in the center.
Looking back behind her at the two men who were still marveling at the fact that they were in front of three huge TIE fighters, Kyra arched an eyebrow at them. "So are we continuing this jailbreak plan or no? Because I can just fly out of here without the both of-"
"Coming!" The trooper scrambled up the stairs after Kyra, making her give a laugh. "Coming." He ran up to her, standing there for a moment before leaping into the gunner position of the TIE fighter. All that was left was for the last man standing below to come up and join Kyra- Poe Dameron. Poe was just laughing at the two of them, somewhat surprised that this was a plan that they were all doing together.
Bounding up the stairs, Poe had the widest smile on his face, leaping into the pilot's seat of the TIE fighter without any hesitation. He ripped off the ugly general outfit he had been wearing, revealing his signature jacket and a Resistance outfit underneath. "Let's get the hell out of here." He agreed with Kyra's earlier statement, holding out his hand to Kyra so she could get into position next to him and help him copilot.
Taking his hand, Kyra slid into the seat next to Poe, seeing the elated smile on his face. "You seem pretty excited for this." She remarked, starting to power up the ship with ease, knowing where all of the buttons were on the ship. She activated them with ease, causing Poe to look at her with a new level of respect.
"Yeah. I've never flown one of these things. I'm excited to learn how to. Although it seems you have." He laughed, taking off his leather jacket so that he could maneuver the TIE fighter with more accuracy and not be restricted by his fashion choices.
"You know how to shoot?" Kyra leaned her head around to see the trooper, his helmet now off. She was unfazed by this, very used to seeing 4236 and 6978 with their masks off. In all honesty, she was surprised with how young he looked. Kyra had assumed he had a couple of years on her. She was wrong, of course.
"Blasters, I can!" The trooper stared back at Kyra, slowly becoming more and more comfortable with having her around. He saw her smile, and give a nod of reassurance at him, which put him in a much more eased state.
"Okay, it's the same principle." Poe explained, completing the rest of the standard ship procedure to get the TIE fighter off of the ground, staring at Kyra to give her the okay once he had completed it. "Use the toggle on the left to switch between missiles, cannons, and mag pulse. Use the site on the right to aim, triggers to fire!"
"This is very complicated." The trooper frowned, trying to comprehend all of the flashing lights and buttons in front of him. He was rather overwhelmed, and wasn't sure what to focus on inside of the ship. There seemed to be so many important things in front of him that he couldn't ignore.
"You ready, Dameron?" Kyra questioned, seeing a grin form on Poe's face, the man's hand resting on the lever that would lurch them forward. The smile was all she needed to know that they were ready. She pressed the release button on the cable, giving him the nod of confirmation. "Clear for takeoff." She teased, making him give a small laugh back to her.
The TIE fighter lurched forward, the sudden movement making all of them shout with surprise. The people down below them seemed startled at the fact that there was a TIE fighter just randomly leaving in front of them, and Kyra knew it wouldn't be long before the upper command knew that this ship was unsanctioned.
"Okay, we gotta leave... now!" She hollered to Poe, seeing the stormtroopers start to line up and prepare their blasters to start firing at the ship. "Or we gotta learn how to fight back!" Kyra yelped, Poe turning the ship around for the trooper to blast all of the people still down below.
"Fire at 'em, kid!"
The green blinding light answered Poe's call, first knocking out the people on the lower deck before the trooper then turned to fire at the upper levels- where the generals and colonels sat, preparing to launch another offensive attack against the rogue TIE fighter ship.
There's another lurch inside of the ship, Poe finally able to escape the inside of the hangar, flying to the outside of the ship. Instead of flying straight away, he swerves back around to the cannons, looking to Kyra for confirmation. "We should take out as many cannons as we can, otherwise we're not going to get far."
"You got that, trooper?" Kyra echoes the fact that he'll have to do some more blasting back to the trooper that she and Poe had somehow picked up on their escape. Although, if she was being fair, they probably wouldn't be at this point without him.
"Yeah, yeah. We're taking out the cannons." The trooper repeated the words that he had heard Poe say a couple of minutes before. His expression hardened as he began to focus on the mission that was right in front of him, determined to escape the First Order- and cause as much damage as he could before they left.
"We're going to get you into position, okay?" Kyra yelled to the trooper, starting to press some buttons and pull some levers that would help them maneuver a bit quicker. "Poe, this ship really moves, so any movement you make is going to affect everything, okay? So take it a little bit easier."
"Got it, Space Girl." Poe stared at the cannons that he was heading towards, starting to make the ship nose dive so the cannons can't shoot straight at them. If they were at the same level as the cannons, it would be harder for them to adjust their shot. Swerving around a couple of satellites and random pieces of the Star Destroyer, Poe steadied the ship again, this time heading straight for the cannons.
"Up ahead! Up ahead!" Poe hollered twice, unsure if the trooper could hear him over the loud roar of the engine. "You see it? I've got the cannons dead centered. It's a clean shot." He stared at the cannons they were heading towards, hoping that the trooper kid would do his job and get them a clear shot.
"Got it." The trooper spoke confidently, staring down at the screen that would help him lineup his shot. When the loud beeping hit its maximum, and the screen started blinking at him, the trooper trusted his instincts, pressing on the trigger.
The cannons went down in flames.
There were excited yells from all three of the rebels inside of the TIE fighter, Kyra breathing a sigh of relief as Poe started to navigate them out of the way of the ship. "Did you see that!" The trooper happily exclaimed, pointing at the now demolished cannons.
"We all saw it kid!" Poe stopped, realizing that he was missing something very important about the trooper that had helped him escape- his name. "Hey, kid, what's your name?" He asked, starting to wonder if now was the right time to start steering the ship onto the course that he wanted to go.
"FN-2187."
This kid was from the same place that 4236 and 6978 came from, Kyra realized. He had that same starting initials that they did. This fact made Kyra stop for a moment, and look back at the kid, wondering if under different circumstances, this would be someone that she was raised with.
"FN- what?"
"That's the only name they ever give the troopers." Kyra mentioned to Poe, a sad look coming to her face when she spoke about it. "That's why you heard me call the ones I was always accompanied with their numbers- until I gave them their names, Fox and Silas."
"Well, Space Girl, if you're good at naming troopers, we might as well give the one that saved both of our lives one." Poe flashed a small smile over at her, seeing her mind quickly go to work in the haste of the moment. "What do you got?"
FN. That was the first part of his name. And since she didn't really have any time to try and figure out one that worked with his first number like she did for Fox and Silas, Kyra just went with the first thing that came into your mind. "Kid, you're free from the First Order. We'll do a lot better than FN-2187. How about Finn?"
"Finn." The trooper tried out the name, a smile coming to his face as he said it again. "Finn. Yeah, I like it!" He exclaimed, feeling pretty grateful to the woman that had been so fearfully spoken about in the First Order. "Thanks Solani."
That name made Kyra wince. "Please, it's just Kyra." She hollered back at him, the casualness of the way Kyra said her name surprising to Finn. Kyra saw him smile at the idea of calling her by her real name, as she had just given him his.
"Kyra?" Poe looked over at her, shellshocked at the fact that she had just dropped her name to an almost stranger. "After four years of trying to figure out your name, now is the time that you decide to scream it out to the world?" He laughed, not believing his bad timing with everything.
"Surprise!" Kyra laughed, blushing under the look that Poe was giving her. She wasn't sure if it was surprise, respect, or something else, but she knew that it was making her turn redder than Ren's lightsaber. Which was saying something.
"Who are you, Resistance pilot?" Finn broke up the almost too awkwardly sweet conversation between Poe and Kyra. "What's your name?" He asked, his eyes still flitting between the weapons controls and what he saw outside. One could never be too overprepared.
"I'm Poe. Poe Dameron." Poe laughed, that moment being the one that he had smiled in the most recently. With how much pressure was on the Resistance at the moment, and all of the crazy experiences he had just been through, it was nice to be with people that made him laugh and grin too hard.
"Nice to meet you Poe! Same to you Kyra!"
"Good to meet you too, kid." Poe grinned, nudging Kyra as he started to turn the TIE fighter around, aiming for the planet that the Star Destroyer was hovering right above. "You too, Space Girl." He gave her a look as if she had hung all the stars in the galaxy, amazement somewhat discreetly hidden in the excited glimmer in his eyes.
"Pleasure's all mine." Kyra's devilish grin and same twinkle in her eyes gave Poe everything he needed to know about how she felt about him. She was grateful, and she finally wasn't hiding behind the countless facades she had put up when they had been on their missions.
For the first time, he finally saw her.
"I don't mean to alarm either of you, but there's some turbolasers headed straight our way!" Finn exclaimed, pointing straight at the two bright blue lights that were hurling straight towards them. "What are we going to do?"
Shaking herself out of whatever the hell she and Poe were communicating with the looks in their eyes, Kyra saw the two laser beams. "Alright. Poe and I will try and steer clear of the one on your left, our right. All you have to do is shoot it down. Got it?"
"Yeah, I think so!" The ex-stormtrooper yelled back at Kyra, trying to focus back on what he was doing. All he had to do was just line up the shot... and fire! The explosion on the side of the ship indicated that Finn had made a hit, which caused Kyra to smile.
"Good hit! Now we just gotta-"
"Wait, wait, where are we going?" Finn interrupted Kyra again, seeing that they were headed down to the planet instead of going far away from anywhere that was even remotely close to the First Order. "Poe Dameron, where are we going?"
"We're going back to Jakku." Poe gritted out, seeing the other laser coming towards them. He navigated clear out of its way, the beam hitting some debris instead of the TIE fighter ship that the three were located inside of.
"No, no no! We can't go back to Jakku! We need to get out of this system!" Finn disagreed, hoping that Kyra would back him up on his argument. "If we stay anywhere in the Western Reaches of the galaxy they're going to find us and kill us."
"Finn, as much as I hate to say it, but Poe is right." Kyra sighed, seeing the look of gratitude that Poe flashed her for an instant before he focused back on piloting the ship. "There's something down there that the Resistance desperately needs."
"And what the hell would that thing be that the Resistance so desperately needs that the two of you would risk your lives again to get?!" Finn yelled in frustration, not understanding why the two of them couldn't just run away while they still had the chance.
"A droid." Poe sighed, shaking his head at the fact that the kid wouldn't just move on and let him complete his Resistance mission. "He's a BB unit, orange and white. One of a kind. He has information that's vital to the survival of the Resistance."
"Why not go back to your base and send someone else?"
"Because now Kylo Ren knows where the map is." Kyra muttered, seeing the flash of fear in her eyes be echoed in Poe's face when she spoke the sith lord in training's name. "He tore the information about BB-8 straight out of my head, there was nothing I could-"
"You're fine, Space Girl." Poe reassured her, knowing that there was nothing that she could do other than what she already did. "You put up a hell of a fight with him, though, to get one of your ears burned off by his lightsaber. I know you did the best you could. The Resistance is glad to have you on our side any day, even if that information was given up."
"Thanks." Kyra muttered, shame lighting up her face for a moment still. She believed that she could've done much better than she did when she was inside of that room. She could've put up more of a fight- not be fearful of a man that she knew wouldn't act on his promises.
"I still don't get it. Why is that droid so important to the Resistance?" Finn yelled at the two Resistance members. "What could be so majorly important that we're basically running a suicide mission to get this droid back?"
"Finn, that droid's got a map that leads straight to Luke Skywalker!" Poe answered his question, nerves fried. All of his instincts told him to be on high alert, and he was on edge with every maneuver and motion that he did inside of the small TIE fighter.
"Oh, you've gotta be kidding me! I-"
"Poe, watch out for the laserbe-!" Kyra screamed out, hoping that he could dodge the new bright blue beam that was bounding straight towards them in time. However, it seemed that their luck had run out at that moment.
The TIE fighter had been hit.
And the world went black for Kyra, Poe, and Finn.
