steve rogers ➼ dance with me

Request: You were going to your first dance and you weren't going to slow dance with anybody because you didn't know how to. But he did.

Warning(s): None

Word Count: 1K

Dancing was something that you were terrible at. Freestyle, slow dancing, any existing dance move, you were incapable of doing. It was embarrassing. Natasha had recently invited you to attend a ball dance with her. Of course you denied the request because you had no concept of how to dance. It wasn't until she told you that nobody is there to judge, they're all there to have fun.

Natasha also mentioned that Steve Rogers would make an appearance. That was more of a motivation then not being judged. You fancied Steve Rogers.

"Alright, I think that's the last of it,'' natasha spoke. She took a step back, placed her hands on her hips and observed you from head to toe. "I love it. You look beautiful (Y/N)."

"This dress is extremely uncomfortable," you whined, studiously ignoring her compliment. "will I have to wear this all night?"

"What kind of question is that?"

"A question coming from a girl who has never been to a ball dance," you responded dryly. "let alone, a girl who has never been to a dance period."

"Oh yeah, I forgot," natasha said, biting down on her bottom lip. "well, tonight is going to get you all the experience you need for dances."

"And if it doesn't, I'm never going to another dance ever again, deal?"

"Deal."

"This place is literally too fancy for me," you whispered over to your best friend as you entered the ball room. "I can't stand any of—"

Before you could finish your complaint, somebody had caught your eye. It was like the entire world had stopped turning. There was a clear pathway that led straight to the man who had stolen your heart, Steve Rogers. There he stood, his ocean blue eyes glinting in the sunlight that shone through the drapes. His sparkling white teeth making an arrival as he smiled widely. It was like a ray of light was gleaming over him.

It was as if you could hear the record scratch when Steve looked over at you. The ray of light disappeared. The sunlight had been covered up by the drapes. You felt as if your feet were glued to the ground as you watched Steve politely excuse himself from the group conversation he was currently having. A hard wave of panic washed over you as Steve began to make his way up to you.

"Nat! Quick you have to—"

You turned to face your best friend but was left speaking to nothing but air. Natasha had wondered off. You didn't even look back at Steve and went elsewhere. You didn't know where you were going to go, but you didn't care at the moment. You just didn't want to interact with Steve. You were a complete stuttering mess when it came to talking to him.

The food table was your final decision when it came into view. Although you were in heels, you found yourself lightly jogging over to the food table. When you reached the food table, a cupcake was the first thing that you picked up.

"Hey, are you trying to runaway from me or something (Y/N)?"

He released a chuckle and instantly you knew it was Steve. He had caught up with you. Your first instinct was to shove the cupcake in your face, which was exactly what you did. You could hear soft gasps travel around you as they witnessed you stuffing a full on cupcake in your face. You weren't hungry, you were just trying to prevent yourself from having to talk to Steve.

You gradually turned to face Steve. His eyebrows lifted up in confusion when he was faced with a girl with cupcake frosting all over her face. Steve smirked.

"You have quite the talent, (Y/N)." steve commented, his eyes lowering to your dress. "You got no frosting on your dress!"

As you began to embarrassingly chew away your cupcake, Steve walked to the other side of the table and retrieved a few napkins. When he made it back to you, you had gulped the cupcake and left a little bit of frosting around your mouth. Steve couldn't help but laugh. He brought the napkin up to your face and wiped away the leftover frosting.

"Thanks Steve," you said, licking your lips one last time. "I'm sorry you had to see that."

"Don't worry about it (Y/N), it was cute."

Steve walked past you to go throw away the napkin. As he was doing so, you couldn't help but silently freak out. Steve just called you cute. A tap to your shoulder was the next thing felt. You turn around and saw a smiling Steve with his hand out.

"May I have this dance, (Y/N)?"

Your teeth dug into your bottom lip. "I-I don't know Steve. I can't really dance."

"Well, luckily for you, I can."

Steve didn't give you a choice and snatched your hand. He gently pulled you out onto the ball room dance floor. He stood in front of you and pulled you close. His body pressing against yours, while his other hand was sliding its way into yours. Romantic would be an understatement, this was more like a dream come true within your eyes.

"Just follow my lead (Y/N)."

Steve's voice was gentle and soft in your ears. You closed your eyes, savoring the moment that was given to you. Without even thinking about it, your footsteps followed his. And next thing you knew, your head was resting upon his chest. The slow dancing was going perfect. You still felt like what you were experiencing wasn't real life. You couldn't believe you were slow dancing with the Steve Rogers.

Once the slow dance came to an end, you didn't want to let go, and neither did Steve. You two held onto each other, even though the music had stopped, your dance moves never did. You definitely knew for a fact, your first dance was one to remember and for sure worth going to.
