Episode 8: Run BTS
Drinking game: Take a shot every time there's a gay joke about Jungkook in this chapter
Kim Seokjin was an idiot.
Here he was, dancing like he was a stripper while Jimin tossed money at him. Jungkook was booing him and asking for Namjoon instead, and Taehyung was in the corner pretending he didn't exist. Namjoon was no where to be found, but Y/n knew he was probably upstairs reading (as always).
Jen had the camera crew inside the kitchen, recording Jin as he twerked on the top of the kitchen table. Jimin was cheering, his cheeks and eyes puffy. Yeaaaah, he had one too many drinks tonight. By one too many, Y/n meant he drank an entire bottle of champagne. By himself.
Taehyung began recording Jimin (Y/n hoped he'd use it as blackmail), but she decided to go up to Jin and join him. They only lived once, right? So she did an awkward kind-of exotic dance that involved her shaking her ass. Jimin cheered (and got a boner), Taehyung recording the entire event until Y/n was sure his poor phone's storage was dying.
Shortly after Y/n and Jin's performance, the music ended, and she hopped down and sat on a chair. The cameras zoomed in on her, and she did her best to resist the temptation to stare at the camera. Her eyes instead went to Jin, who had sweat dripping down the sides of his face. His cherry lips were parted, taking a sip from the water Jungkook got for him. Jungkook got nothing for Y/n because, as expected, he wanted to see her suffer. That was their friendship, after all. Jungkook teasing the shit out of her, and her doing it right back to him.
"I'm gonna go find Namjoon," Jungkook said, the others staring at him. "What?"
"You're a bigger simp than Jimin," Tae replied, causing the drunk Jimin to attempt to whack him. He missed.
"I'm a simp? Are we gonna talk about how you've been making eyes at Y/n and calling her 'princess' ever since the first elimination?" Jungkook asked. Oh shit. Jungkook's face was contorted with rage that wasn't from Taehyung. It was from the presence of cameras. Just like Yoongi, Jungkook was lashing out. Only he was lashing out in a different way. "What changed, huh? Why do you suddenly like Miss L/n?"
Okay, maybe Y/n was the simp. Hearing Jeon Jungkook call her 'Miss L/n' had her legs squeezing together and her eyes averting from the topic at hand. She pretended she wasn't fiddling with her fingers and gnawing on her lower lip. She wasn't sure if it was because of Jungkook's voice or the cameras crowding her. It was probably a mix of both.
Y/n figured that if she ignored something hard enough, it wouldn't exist, so she dipped out of the room before she could see the rest of the Taekook fight. They bickered like an old married couple. That made her frown. Yoongi and Jin bickered like an old married couple too, and Y/n found herself missing their dynamic. Whenever Yoongi approached Jin, there was always a little fight. Or, in some cases, a large one. Like the one that resulted in Yoongi's elimination.
Her frown increased as she trotted behind the stairs, preparing to go out back to the parking lot. She wished to see her sister as early as possible. If she could slip out and go visit while filming was wrapping up, she'd be happy. Jen gave her permission to leave early at the beginning of the shift. She gladly took the offer. However, she wasn't expecting company to come with her.
Right as she went to the back door, a pair of arms wrapped around her and caused her heart to melt inside her chest. He kissed her cheek and rubbed her waist, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "You really thought I'd let you do this alone?" Jimin mumbled, her chuckling at the aroma littering the corners of his mouth.
It was a bit concerning how much Jimin was drinking. Of course he adored alcohol, and Y/n respected that. However, this was different. He was drinking every day. Not to this extent, but sometimes he would go overboard. She wondered why, then realized they had been doing this whole "reality TV" thing for months. Hell, she wanted to start drinking because of the stress. She could only imagine how Jimin felt since he was doing this for the same reason she was: to save his family.
"Jimin," she said, and he groaned from the way she said his name. "You need to sleep. I'll manage on my own." As much as she adored Jimin's presence, he was drunk beyond belief. She didn't want to leave him behind, but seeing as the risk of him throwing up in her car was high, she needed to. "Get to bed and I'll tell you all about it in the morning, yeah?"
Although he pouted, he agreed. The one thing about drunk Jimin was that he was bolder. Yes, sober Jimin was bold too, but he was bold with words. Drunk Jimin was bold with his actions. That showed in the way he leaned forward and kissed her, Y/n kissing back without second-guessing herself. His lips were always irresistible, but the way he put all his passion into the kiss made her swoon. Jimin was a passionate, needy kisser. She admired that about him and shifted her pattern to match his.
When they parted, he flashed her an eye smile. "Drive safe. Text me when you get there, otherwise I'm sending a swat team after you," he said.
"How charming."
He snickered and wobbled away, revealing Jin not far behind. He grimaced. "Ew."
"Shut up Jin, you were just twerking for all of America."
"So were you!" Jin said in an exasperated tone, throwing his hands up and stalking off in the opposite direction. Hearing the commotion, Jungkook came out (of the kitchen, not the closet) to investigate as well. Y/n was quick to bounce up and give him a wave, which made him bunny smile and skip over.
If there was one person Y/n trusted with her sister, it was Jimin. That was because he knew about her condition and related to it a little too personally. However, if she there was one person she trusted with giving her an escape, it was Jungkook. So, she latched onto his arm and dragged him outside, not caring if Jen needed him for filming.
"Woah, at least take me to dinner fir-"
"I am, I am," Y/n replied with a laugh, Jungkook grinning. One quick dinner wouldn't hurt. After all, Y/n was starving, and she could bring something home for Angelica.
Y/n led him to her car and drove off, and she knew Jungkook was grateful for her. Any time away from the cameras was heavenly, especially to someone like Jungkook. With that in mind, she went to one of her favorite restaurants in the area. It was a rundown diner that looked like it came straight from the 1950s. It had the neon lights outside that shimmered a scarlet shade in the dark sky. The rotating sign outside alerted them to the name of the diner. It was quite literally just "The Vintage Diner".
"Romantic," Jungkook said, and Y/n chuckled before parking and bringing him inside.
He followed, and the two were seated by a waitress wearing an apron and a cyan button-down top, the white apron matching the skirt hiding underneath it. The rest of the diner consisted of white and black tiled floors along with booths that were a few shades lighter than the neon lights, the tables propped up by metal stands, and containers of ketchup, mustard, and napkins were resting near the windows on the opposite ends of the surfaces.
They were sat in the corner, by the countertop that was serving milkshakes and cashing out checks behind the register. Y/n admired the way the diner ran, and each waitress was kind. She made sure to tip as well as she could afford, but with Jungkook here, she was sure his competitive ass would rock paper scissors her for paying.
Regardless, they got their menus and stared at each other instead of the food options. "Do I have something on my face?" Y/n asked when he refused to stop looking.
"Perfection."
"Awwh, that was so sweet I got the sudden urge to punch you and throw up."
"Kinky," Jungkook said with a proud smile, Y/n groaning.
"Please stop hanging out with Jimin. He's rubbing off on you too much."
"This came from Namjoon, actually." At Y/n's eyebrow raise, Jungkook snickered and leaned forward. It may have sounded silly, but when he leaned on his elbows, she felt the need to drool. Yes, she knew that made her strange, but Jungkook was attractive, and to see the way his muscles poked against his shirt? That had her swooning. "I think you underestimate just how dirty our friend is."
"Oh really?" Jungkook hummed and shifted back in his seat. Although Y/n wanted to dominate the fuck out of Jungkook (and it would work, too; he was totally a bottom), she had to admit the subtle movements he made caused her legs to tremble and wish to spread. Okay, tmi, but she couldn't help herself. "If that's the case, why don't you show me what else you learned from him?"
That led to the bunny boy stuttering, the tips of his ears turning pink as he hid himself behind the menu. "Anyway, this place has grilled cheese. I'm a whore for grilled cheese."
"And Namjoon."
"Shut up," he said without a hint of hesitation in his voice.
Y/n found herself laughing at his antics, and Jungkook joined in as the night carried on. They ordered waters and ended up sharing a chocolate milkshake. Jungkook insisted on getting banana milk, but as it turned out, the diner didn't have any. Jungkook threw a tantrum about it (after the waitress left, of course. He was still a "gentleman").
Their dinners came not long after they arrived, which was precisely why Y/n chose this diner. It was fast, tasty, and cheap. That meant no matter who ended up paying, Y/n wouldn't feel bad. At most, their total would maybe be 40 dollars. Maybe. Seeing as there was no alcohol, and their dinners were 10 dollars each, Y/n had a feeling it'd be less than the average California dinner.
Her theory was confirmed when the bill came, but she barely got a chance to see the total since Jungkook snatched it out of her hands. At her huff, Jungkook gave her a smile that caused her legs to feel like mush.
"You drove, so I'll pay. In today's economy, gas is more expensive than this anyway. Sound fair?" he asked, and she found herself giving in at that.
"Fine, but only if I pay next time."
"So what I'm hearing is... there's a next time?"
"You're impossible."
Indeed he was, but that was what she adored about him. It was like he was the boy she didn't notice at first because of how shy he was. Now, she wouldn't trade him for the world. The idea that another elimination was coming soon broke her heart. She couldn't get rid of any of them. She couldn't eliminate Taehyung, but she did have permission to eliminate Jimin. Since it was a little over halfway through the season, the producers said the next elimination needed to be dramatic. More dramatic than the others.
The reason why was because they needed to give the viewers solid motivation to watch the second half of the show. Their idea was Jimin could get eliminated to complete the Tae-Jimin story arc. Tae would have an emotional goodbye speech, and Jimin would be heartbroken because he loved her, but also because he just started to become friends with Tae. It was the perfect setup. There was one problem with that.
Y/n was 99.9% sure she loved Jimin back.
She loved the boys in their own ways, and she had to admit that if she had to choose who she wanted to date, she couldn't make that choice. However, she did know that she adored Jimin and his stupid eye smile that gave her butterflies. On the other hand, there was Namjoon, who fit her ideal type almost exactly. He was intelligent, wise, determined, and supportive. Not that the others weren't, but Namjoon embodied those traits most of all.
Even the eliminated boys made Y/n's legs weak. Hoseok could give her a glance and she'd bend over, and Yoongi gave her a new perspective on life that made her admire him much more. There was no clear answer as to who to eliminate. She was totally in love with Jimin, needed Jungkook to survive the rest of this show, adored the way Jin made her laugh, made a deal with Taehyung, and was pretty much in love with Namjoon too. Y/n wanted to bang her head against a wall. This was all too much for her to handle.
So, she snapped back to reality and helped Jungkook gain the courage to speak to the waitress to pay (shy boy moment), and they left with a box of food for Y/n's sister. Instead of taking Jungkook back to the mansion, Y/n took him to a hill she liked to go to on nights she felt down. It was a hill right by the mansion, her secret spot she slipped away to when no one was looking. Clearly she was doing a good job of sneaking out seeing as Jungkook knit his brows.
"Is this the part where you murder me and throw my body in a bush?" Jungkook asked.
Y/n laughed and couldn't resist, leaning over to kiss his cheek and take his hand. "No, you silly goose. This is my private spot. It's where I go to get away from the whole... reality TV show thing."
Jungkook gulped but accepted her explanation, the two departing the vehicle and trekking up the steep hill. It was barren, no wildlife or plants around. There wasn't even a tree. California was dry when compared to the rest of America. Wildfires happened often, and the heat could kill those who were unprepared. Those California traits made patches of nature, like the one Y/n and Jungkook were on, much sweeter.
Y/n plopped down, Jungkook doing the same and wrapping an arm around her. They stayed in each other's embraces, peeking at the stars. Y/n would have to drop him off at the mansion and go to Angelica soon, but she could enjoy this moment. That was exactly what she did.
Jungkook rubbed her arm and stared at the beautiful sky. "Hey, um, can I ask you something?" he said, and she hummed. "Our friendship isn't just a show for me. You're honestly like my favorite person right now... other than Namjoon." He paused so they could both chuckle. "I guess where I'm going with this is... well, I don't know, um, I guess-"
"It's real to me too," she said, and he beamed at that. "It's always been real to me, and I want us to be friends for as long as we can. Every decision you make, I want to be right by your side for them. I really like you, Koo."
"I really like you too, sweetheart." He kissed the top of her head, but it wasn't enough for her. Although she viewed Jungkook as her best friend, she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pressed their lips together. He jumped, then kissed back. He had thin lips, and likely the thinnest of the ones she had kissed so far. Regardless, he had a sweet taste. Almost cherry-like, or maybe strawberry? She couldn't identify the exact flavor, but it was fruity (like him), and his lips were rosy as well.
They parted, their eyes locking. But of course, Y/n was too honest for her own good. "Wanna make out for a bit?"
"Fuck yeah," Jungkook said with a laugh.
They did, Y/n sitting on his lap and making out with him under the stars. Their lips fit together well, but they were awkward kissers. They laughed each time they switched sides, their patterns adjusting to match each other's. It took a minute to iron out the kinks, but they eventually fit and kissed each other like they were supposed to.
It took them several minutes to decide to stop, and Y/n knew she had to go to her sister before she fell asleep. With that, they kept laughing and smiling as they stood. Right when Y/n thought they were about to leave, Jungkook spun her around and brought her back, picking her up and holding her above his head. She grinned and put her hands on his shoulders, relishing in the fact that for once, she was taller than Jungkook. Then, not knowing what else to do, she leaned down and kissed him.
They shared one last kiss as the wind brushed through their hair, their eyes shut so they could enjoy the feeling. They were greedy and held on for longer than they needed to. After yet another long kiss, Jungkook set her down and rubbed her waist, his eyes crinkling from the bunny smile he had on his face.
"That was fun, let's do it again some time."
