Intent to kill
Christian
"Huh? What the hell are you doing here?" Christopher greeted me with a frown on his face. His eyes were bloody red and his words slurred. I was in Dad's private room where only family members were allowed to enter.
"I can ask you the same thing." I placed myself on the chair opposite to his.
"Christian you piece of-"
"Christopher." Dad's voice cut him off and his eyes shifted from me to Dad.
"I can't believe you Dad, how could you do this to me after what I have done for you through all these years!" He screeched trying to get up.
"What's going on?" I butted in.
"Christopher, I need to talk to him so shut the hell up or leave this room." Dad gave him a pointed look and his eyes lowered.
"Christian, you helped Jonathan didn't you?"
I nodded.
"Why?"
"He wasn't at fault. Why should we trouble him?" I bluntly said.
"When did you start thinking like that?"
"What do you mean?" I tried and searched venom in voice but surprisingly he wasn't even slightly vicious.
"You love that Hazel girl don't you or should I say April Grey?" His lips curled up in a smirk.
My mouth hung open. When did he find out? Did he find out or...
"Did you knew who she was from the very start?" I exclaimed. "But then why didn't you do anything?"
I tried blinking several times to clear my vision. What I seeing on my father's face was so surreal I couldn't believe it. I didn't know he knew how to make such a face. A face full of compassion.
"Why are you smiling?" I still doubted him.
"So you do love her then." He completed, leaning back on his chair.
"So what? What are you planning?" I pulled out my phone to call Ryan.
"Wait. I'm not going to do anything to her. Neither to Jonathan."
I shot him a questioning look.
"I know what you must be thinking Chris. But your father is not as cold-hearted as you think." His eyes bored into mine. What I saw in his eyed was clear sadness. Seeing emotions in his eyes were a fresh feeling.
But..
"What the hell are you talking about? What's up with those sudden emotions in your eyes? You've been nothing but a cold blooded monster all this time!" I realised how high my voice had raised.
"Christian, I understand-"
"Shut up! Where the hell was your emotions when mom died?! You treated me like I was some kind of weapon! You knew how our family didn't like me around, and you never visited! Still...I thought you would change after what happened to mom. But you acted like nothing happened! You didn't stop your sins!"
I saw him averting his eyes. He always avoided it whenever I tried to talk about mom. If he didn't like her why did he brought her into this dangerous life of his? I always had so many questions about mom. I couldn't ask him. He would just change the topic.
"Tell me Dad. Why do you never talk about mom? Did she even matter to you at all?" The way he was acting all emotional right now after so many years irked me.
He sighed hanging his head low. "Answer is simple, Christian."
"It hurts." He almost whimpered.
I glanced at Christopher who too was staring at Dad.
"Dad-"
"Dad! Stop this nonsense shit right now and get to the damn point!" Christopher barked out of nowhere.
"What am I going to do with you Christopher?" Dad rubbed his temple. "He has done a terrible thing Christian.
"What did he do?" I glared at him. What did he do this time?
"He has killed Jonathan's wife. Juliet Grey." Dad said giving him a serious look.
However, my legs had lost their strength. I huffed back on my seat from which I didn't remember standing up. Hazel's mom... that car accident which she was told that was done by me ...it was actually...
"You bastard!" I lunged at him punching him right into the face.
He was so out of it after I had punched him that he couldn't eve get up for few minutes. Maybe it was the alcohol.
"Christian you piece of shit!" He got back on his feet and his fist came right for my face which I dodged.
"You drunk moron!" I threw one more punch at his bruised face.
"Stop it. Why are you two always like that?" Dads voice stopped me. He had gotten up from his seat and was lighting a cigarette.
"I want to discuss about the Grey family but before that I need to tell you my decision." He said inhaling deep into the cigarette.
"It's time! It's about time!" Suddenly,Christopher cheered beside me. Did he finally lose his brain?
"What decision?" I ignored Christopher and his over enthusiasm.
"I've decided who is going to be the next boss of our business." He said crushing his cigarette in the ash tray. "It's about time. He'll be the next boss after my death of course."
"It's going to be me." Christopher patted my shoulder. "I'm sorry for you brother but no matter what you think it's going to be me."
I shrugged his dirty hand off me. "Don't decide how I feel. I'm not interested in inheriting this shitty thing in the first place."
"But it's going to be you, Christian." Dad butted in.
"What?" Christopher barked out while I just blinked. Me?
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Christopher seemed to have come to his senses all of a sudden. It must have been a shock to him. I knew he dreamt of becoming the next boss ever since he got to know what our family business was all about. Where I felt disgusted he was overwhelmed with joy.
"Christopher, I know you're loved by everyone in our family. Everyone had always favoured you over Christian. You were a genius kid." Dad attempted to calm him.
"What do you mean was? I still am a goddamn genius Dad!" He fumed. After throwing the beer bottle which he was holding he shot me a nasty look.
"I'm not like this failure, here."
"He's not a failure." Dad sharply said.
"Dad, don't tell me you're actually going to make him the next boss?" Christopher threatened. His eyes darkened into a dangerous shade.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw him pulling out his gun slowly from behind where he always tucked it.
Don't tell me.
"Christopher!" I lunged at him at the same time he pointed that gun at Dad.
"Christopher!" Dad exclaimed.
"Why are you standing in my way?" He asked keeping the gun pointed at my chest.
"I can't let you kill him." As the thought of him killing Dad went through my mind it made me shudder. He may not have been the best Dad out there, and I still thought his way of business was dirty. I didn't want him dead.
"Move Christian." Christopher warned. His were dead serious.
"You back off." I replied.
"Christopher, drop that gun now." Dad had pulled out his hin too. They sure resembled a lot.
"I said move!" Christopher rushed in with his gun aiming directly at Dad's head but I jumped in pushing him back. His gun was stabbing me in my shoulder, but I kept pushing. As my hand moved towards my own gun which was lying in my pocket Christopher had fired one single bullet.
The pain was so sudden I didn't feel it for a moment. There was a sense of burning into my skin.
I saw people entering the private room where they weren't suppose to enter. Their judgements must have told them to interfere in our little family brawl.
I clenched to the left part of my body from where blood was oozing like a waterfall. The gun I was supposed to pull out and defend myself had fallen down somewhere I couldn't see.
When I was trying to balance myself I heard two sharp gunshots and pain shot through my legs. That bastard! He had put bullets in both of my legs.
I fell down in loud agony. "You sick bastard!" I yelled. It was not going to a damn thing.
Christopher appeared above me. What I saw in his eyes was something unusual. It was not his usual sick satisfaction. It was the pure intent.
Intent to kill.
