Just like her

April.

What was I going to do? What the hell just happened? I said yes, yes! He can't come tomorrow, but he's coming ! He's coming alone, oh my god.

"April, I know that you are desperate to meet him." A voice startled the life out of me. I snapped my eyes at him. Jayson, who had been sitting here the entire time since Christian had called

"I'm not; I'm just- Oh God! What am I going to do?" I slumped down on the bed, putting my head between my hands.

"Why didn't you tell him to come after a week or something?"

Is he seriously asking that? Why doesn't he get it? Why is his thick brain not registering the fact that I am impossibly in love with that guy? Christian was literally begging to meet; he said he couldn't take it anymore, and it's the same with me. I needed to see him as soon as possible. My heart and brain were both at their limits.

"Jayson I have to see him tomorrow, and we are executing our plan. I'm calling Dad." I pulled out my phone.

"I can't believe you actually did this. I had warned you that if you want to protect Christian, we have to act with caution." My Dad stated. I wasn't sure whether he was angry or not because he wasn't shouting, but there was weight to his tone.

I was twisting the long sleeve on my hand as I hid behind Austin.

"Dad, I know she messed up, but I want you to understand her." Austin retorted. His wounds were not completely healed yet, and he still needed rest. Yet I had put him in a tight spot. He was not going to take part in this plan if it was executed tomorrow.

"Austin, there are things to think about! There are thousands of families whose lives would be in danger if we screwed this up!" Okay, now he is shouting. I inhaled sharply and clung to my brother's back like a baby monkey.

"Dad, she's already scared. Please don't shout. We will figure this out. But we can't delay it anymore." Austin turned back, pulled me away from his back, and pulled me into a side hug.

He's so sweet.

Austin had changed after knowing Christopher was the one who killed our mother and Logan. He was the one who crashed his truck over their car, crushing everything. Austin had believed it was Christian, as Christopher had told him so, but the truth was out now. He supported my love for Christian now, probably in his mind, as he hadn't said anything to me, but his behavior talked a lot.

"Even if we convince April, I don't think Christian is going to wait for another day." Austin sneaked a look at me and winked.

Dad shook his head, probably in disbelief. "Oh dear lord."

"I'm sorry, Dad." I spoke quietly, still clinging to Austin.

"I don't know what to say, sweetheart. You are reminding me so much of your mother right now that I can't even fight with you." Dad reminiscently smiled.

"Really?" It felt strange. I was never compared to my mother. I didn't look like her except for the beautiful, shiny jet black hair and plump cheekbones; there was nothing similar between us.

"Yeah. She was just like you. When it came to the people she loved, she didn't compromise at all. Even when there was a time when we couldn't meet because my parents didn't like our relationship, she was daring enough to secretly meet me in my room. I was more of a coward back then." He awkwardly looked at both of us.

"The point is, she was the kind of person who put their life in danger for the people they loved." He sighed. "You are just like her."

"I guess so. Dad I'm really sorry, but I will do everything that I can to make sure that the plan will succeed."

Dad brushed my hair, extending his hand. "I'm sure you will."

"Let's discuss this thoroughly, Call Jayson in." Dad instructed, and we did as we were told.

Dad made sure that no one was listening to our conversation and asked his trusted men to keep a watch. As Uncle was not present in the building, the guards were more relaxed than usual, which worked for us. We gathered in Dad's room and started our meeting.

"The only thing we must do immediately is to call everyone I trust and give them specific instructions." Dad was vigorously typing something on his phone.

"Why are you texting then?" Austin asked, perplexed.

"Because at this hour, it will be too suspicious if a large group of people gathers around here. I'm just explaining everything to them via this text." Dad turned back to texting.

Our plan was simple yet complicated.

It was an escape plan. We were going to run away from here with Christian until Dad took Uncle's place at our company. It was the only way to save Christian. As long as Uncle was the boss, he would hunt down Christian until he found him. If Dad became the boss again, Uncle would lose his manpower to chase after Christian. If Dad became the boss, he would have power over Uncle, and Uncle would have to obey Dad as he would be the head of the family. Just how we have been obeying him over the years.

"Hey Dad, can I ask you something?"

"Sure honey." He replied without looking up from his phone.

"Why did you leave your position as the boss?"

It was a question that had bugged me since he had told me he was the previous boss. If he had stayed the boss, situation would have been drastically different.

"Well, I was instructed by my father to spy on another organization, which was our biggest rival at that time." He stated.

I nodded. Only if he was still the boss. Our lives would have been so much better.

"Wait a minute. You were the boss?" Austin's jaw dropped. "Are you kidding me?"

I internally sighed. I forgot that Austin was not aware of it. Austin and Dad didn't talk like me and Dad did. So most of the details from the past were known only to me.

"Yes, I guess you don't remember; you were a baby back then."

Dad and Austin stared at each other for an awkward minute before Jayson cleared his throat.

"We have more important things to discuss." He reminded.

"Right." Dad looked at all of us. "Let's begin."
