You set off to follow your dreams
Ha... what a laugh. Look at where you were now. Cold and miserable and alone, with the destruction you've caused a grim reminder to yourself all around you.

You set off to live the rest of your life in what you deserved
Useless. A hermit isolated from everything and everyone. Used to be known by all but loved by none. That latter statement hadn't changed a bit though.

You set off and... what's this?
...A boy? It had been so many years since you saw anyone came. He wanted to know what happened to the trees, he claims.

With another person after so many years.You just tell the boy to forget about it, no one really cares about them anymore anyway. The town that you helped prosper but now completely forgot you was living proof of that. Strange, though, how could this boy have known he would find you all the way out here?

You set off and found someone undeterred by reality
"I care!" the boy told you. You saw something familiar in that boy, and you decided to entertain him for a while as you recounted your tale until it was seemingly dark out enough for the boy to be missed by his family. At least that's what you hoped were the case.

You set off and had a thought
"Maybe... just maybe..." Ah, but that'd be too preposterous. You learned long ago that silly things such as hope and remembering were just things of wistful imagination.

You set off, and stood corrected!
The boy came back, and he even brought a gift along! You couldn't say anything else but a sincere thank you.

You set off, and you could hardly remember the last time you felt this remotely happy
You continued your tale for the boy for all his trouble. And when you finally finished, you recalled the thought you had before. Unless...

Something that you thought was no longer worthy of having for such a wretched man as yourself. And yet here it is, with this boy and the seed he now held in hand.

Light for a brighter future, light for a better change. The light that shone from the town, its walls that hid it from the destruction you caused now torn down, and the people's blissful ignorance along with it. "Thank you, Ted."

You were reunited with an old friend, "Y'done good, beanpole," he told you, along with that familiar nickname. Even after all you've done, he still forgave you. How tears were ready to fall from your eyes. You couldn't do anything else but give him a hug.

And would you look at that, people who actually cared for you and friends who forgave you despite everything. Maybe this was the dream you always sought for, but you never knew 'til now that this dream would be the one to find you instead.
