Chapter 11: What Happened 6-1-16
Robin stood in the doorway smiling back at Noah happily. She had a broken arm which was in a purple cast and her face was a little bit scratched up, but nothing too bad. Noah didn't know what to say or do.
"Robin?" he finally stammered.
"Yes, it's me. Now come inside instead of staring at me. Yes, I'm alive," she said opening the door a little more for Noah to come in.
Noah walked in and saw Doyle walk into the room. Noah waved and said,
"We need to talk,"
Doyle agreed. Robin had refused to tell Doyle anything before Noah got there, so they were both eager to see what had happened to Robin.
"How about we go to the bakery down the road. I'm starving and it would be nice to talk over some food," Noah said rubbing his stomach.
"Sure, I could go for a bagel and some orange juice," Robin nodded her head.
"Okay," Doyle said, "Mom I'm going to the bakery down the road with my friends,"
A moment later Doyle's mom responded with,
"Okay, have fun and be safe!"
All the kids walked out the front door and started walking down the sidewalk towards the bakery. It was a silent walk, but Noah and Doyle kept smiling to themselves eager to hear what had happened.
Once they got to the bakery, which wasn't that far, Noah opened the door and they all got seated by one of the windows. They sat at a booth. Noah and Doyle sat next to each other and Robin on the opposite side of them.
Soon the waitress came over and asked what they would like to order.
"I will have a blueberry bagel with cream cheese and jam. And some orange juice please," said Robin putting the menu down.
"I will take the orange, scrambled eggs, and bacon meal please with milk," said Doyle also putting down his menu on top of Robins.
And lastly Noah said, "I will have pancakes and eggs please with apple juice,"
"Okay, I will be right back kids," the waitress said and walked away briskly.
"Now, tell us what happened!" Doyle said excitedly looked back towards Robin.
"Okay. Here goes. So I was at the edge of the deep end, remember? And then the shark jumped?" She started.
Noah and Doyle both nodded and told her to keep going. She did and said,
"Okay, so when the shark landed, its pectoral fin hit my arm and I lost my balance. I fell into the deeper water and couldn't see anything. The salt water burned my eyes every time I tried to open them. I tried surfacing multiple times, but the shark's enormous body was in the way all the times I tried. It wasn't his fault though. I guess I eventually lost air and stopped fighting since I didn't think there was any more hope," she paused as the waitress came back holding all their food and drinks.
"Here you go boys," she said as she handed the boys their food dishes and drinks. Then she set down Robin's trey and drink in front of her because of her casted arm. She said she hoped her arm felt better soon and walked away again.
"Okay, so then I awoke a while later washed up on the shore. There was a family looming over me. I was lucky to be alive and wash up on the beach with a family to help me. It was dark out I noticed too, so I figured you two were already gone. In the family hanging around me there was a mom and a dad with two really young boys. They were maybe in kindergarten and they were twins it appeared. They looked exactly alike," She stopped and spread the jam and cream cheese over her bagel and then cut it in half.
"Then the mom and dad sat me up and asked what had happened. I said I didn't know, not wanting to give away the shark, and that my arm really hurt. The dad said he was a doctor, thank goodness, and examined my arm carefully. He said it was sprained. They brought me back to their house and he put my arm in this cast," she said holding her arm up.
"The two little boys signed it and drew smiley faces as you can see. Then the mom asked me if I know where I was. She brought me to the front door and I peered out the front window. I did recognize where I was, so I said yes. Then the mom gave me some food and then asked me if I wanted to spend the night. She was really kind and mothering towards me. I said no, and that my parents were probably really worried," She stopped and took a bite out of her bagel and took a sip out of her orange juice.
"So then you came to my house, but why my house instead of your house to tell your parents? Aren't they worried about you?" asked Doyle stuffing a bite of scrambled eggs in his mouth.
"There's something I haven't told you yet or that family that rescued me," Robin smiled, "My parents are at a wedding in California. I told them I didn't want to go, because I didn't know the people from the wedding. So they aren't even home! They haven't been since last week," she smiled again and finished her bagel.
"Oh my gosh, well thank goodness they are gone, or else you would have had to tell them about the shark and then they would have told my parents and then Noah's and then somebody would have eventually killed the shark or brought it to a zoo," Doyle said.
"Ya and we still have to get the shark safely out of that enclosed space it's trapped in," Noah said finishing his breakfast.
The waitress came back to the kid's table minutes later and took everybody's empty plates and cups. Then the kid's payed and said bye to the kind lady. Robin even gave her a 10 dollar tip.
The kids walked outside into the day, it was getting really windy and a little chilly. Probably going to rain like Noah and thought earlier on his way to Doyle's house.
"Want to go to my house?" Robin suggested.
"Sure," Doyle and Noah said at the same time. She was only about a 10 minute walk from here anyway.
-----
Once they got to Robin's house it had began to rain. The kids sat down in Robin's empty family room and Robin turned on the TV. It was on the News Channel. Noah was about to say something to the others, but gasped when he saw what was on the TV. Then Doyle and Robin looked and gasped too mouths wide open. Just the luck they needed.
A/N: What do you think they saw on TV?!
