Dementor Attacks
***Walker Scobell & Mackenzie Foy as Durante Knightley & Annie Potter***
Annie, Ron, Hermione, and Dante were hanging out in Ron's room when the Weasley twins Apparated in on them, startling everyone.
"Harry's just been expelled from Hogwarts!" Fred announced in a frantic voice.
Annie leapt to her feet, her face pale. "What?!"
"How did you know?" Hermione asked at the same time.
"We heard it, through the Extendable Ears."
The twins tugged on the long ear they were holding. Annie sighed.
"You should probably put those away before Mrs. Weasley finds them. She'll know that you've been eavesdropping."
"As long as she doesn't figure out, we'll be fine," said Fred with a nonchalant shrug. It was as though he didn't care if they got caught making these things for their future joke shop the twins had been talking non-stop about (only when Mrs. Weasley wasn't around, of course. Mr. Weasley thinks that the idea is absolutely hilarious).
"Anyways, Harry just got expelled. Did you even hear about how that happened?"
"Apparently, it was the dementors. He was in danger from them, obviously, and had to defend himself by using magic."
"That's the only legal time underage wizards can really use magic, though," Annie pointed out.
"I know. But apparently, he did it 'in the presence of a Muggle', and that he was expelled for that."
"That's outrageous!" Annie seethed, jumping to her feet. "I would go to the Minister, myself, if I could. But I don't think that's necessarily allowed right now. He's in a very . . . . shitty mood at the moment. Trust me. I think that we've all seen how the Minister has acted ever since Voldemort's return."
"And expelling Harry for no reason?" Hermione scoffed. She got to her feet. "I'm going to the manor's library to make sure the rules are correct."
And with that, she left. She didn't get back until late that evening. When she returned, she looked incredibly flustered. Annie noticed that she had a book in her hand.
"They can't expel him!" she declared, still clutching the book in her arms. "They just can't! I've looked it all up — went through nearly every single book out there in your godfather's library, Annie. Your brother did the right thing! He protected himself and his Muggle cousin from danger. That is the only time you'll necessarily need to use magic in the presence of a Muggle."
Annie shushed her. "Quiet! Someone's coming up the stairs!"
They went quiet. Annie nervously watched th doorhandle turn. Annie was relieved when her brother stood there at the door. Before Annie could react, Hermione had beaten her to it, hugging Harry tightly to the point where her brother thought that he couldn't breathe.
"Oh, Harry! Thank goodness you're okay! Are you alright? We've heard about the dementor attack and you getting expelled."
"Yeah, I'm fine," Harry answered shortly.
"I've looked it all up. They can't expel you, they just can't. It's completely unfair."
"Yeah," Harry answered, his voice low.
"Let the man breathe, Hermione," Ron chided gently, though he was grinning from ear-to-ear.
Annie was a bit upset when her brother had completely ignored her.
"What is this place?"
"The Headquarters," Hermione answered at once.
"The Order of the Phoenix," Annie added, jumping in at once. "Dumbledore first founded the community back before You-Know-Who first rose to power."
"Suppose you should have put all of that in your letters, then," said Harry angrily.
Uh-oh. Sera knew that he would get upset. But at the same time, she didn't blame him.
"All I've gotten this summer is zero scrap of news. Do you have any idea how painful it is for me to not know what's going on in our world?"
"We wanted to write to you, mate," said Ron pleadingly. "Really. We did."
"Only . . . .," Dante trailed off, looking awkward.
Annie's brother turned to face him. "Only what?"
"Only Dumbledore made us swear to not tell you anything that was important. At all," Hermione answered for him, much to Dante's relief.
Harry stopped, staring in shock. "Dumbledore said that?" Everyone looked guilty. Harry's anger began to rise. "Well, why would he want to keep me in the dark? After all, I was the one who saw Voldemort return. I was the one who saw him. I fought him. I was the one who saw Cedric Diggory drop dead on the floor —"
Fred and George apparated right next to him, using their Extendable Ears. Both were grinning.
"Harry!" said Fred enthusiastically with a grin.
"We thought that we heard your indulgent tones, mate," George added cheerfully.
"You two passed your Apparition tests, then?" said Harry bitterly as he rubbed the back of his head where the twins had grabbed it.
"With extension," Fred answered in a light voice.
"But if you're done with all your ranting —" said George.
"Do you want to hear something . . . . a little more interesting?" George finished.
They crept onto the landing. Fred rolled down the Extendable Ears down the balcony. Shortly after they'd arrived, Ginny had joined them.
"Hey, Ginny," Harry whispered.
Ginny waved.
"—You and Potter are basically stuck at the hip. Aren't you, Black?" the familiar voice of Professor Snape interrupted.
"Snape works here?" Harry asked, intrigued.
Ron nodded, rolling his eyes. "Git."
"You stay out of this, Snivellus," Sirius growled. "Harry should have the right to know."
"He's not your son, Molly! And Annie is not your daughter, either!"
"Well, Harry is as good as my own son, and Annie has lived with the Weasleys for her entire life and we consider her as a permanent family member!" Mrs. Weasley fumed back.
"Hermione," said Annie warningly as they spotted Crookshanks at the foot of the stairs. He had his cat-like eyes on the Extendable Ear. She nudged Fred sharply in the shoulder.
"Crookshanks, no!" Hermione scolded. But Crookshanks had succeeded in pulling the ear off. Fred shook his head and reeled the leftover extendable back into his hands. "Bad kitty!"
"Hermione, I've always hated that cat of yours," said Ron half-jokingly.
"Children, it's dinner time!" Mrs. Weasley's voice called out.
"You six go on ahead," said Fred lightly. "Georgie and I have got something planned."
Annie turned to face them, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "Are you planning on scaring me once my back is turned?"
Fred rolled his eyes. "We deserve to give you a break, sis."
"Plus, you've been through a lot over the past few years," George added sincerely.
"We've decided to . . . . piss someone else off."
"Really? And who are you planning to piss off?"
The twins gave each other knowing looks and Annie's face turned slightly pale. She sighed.
"Fred, George? You do realize that Mrs. Weasley will not be happy with what you're about to do to her, right?"
"So, what? It'll be worth it! Plus, once we start running our own joke shop, it wouldn't be as much fun. We wouldn't be able to scare Mum. Would we, Fred?" said George.
"Absolutely not. So we'll give you a break this time, Sis."
Annie was still suspicious. She loved the Weasley twins. But at the same time, she didn't trust them with their jokes. "You better keep that promise or I'm going to force you to clean my room until the end of the summer."
"Just go downstairs, Annie," Fred whined, poking her in the back.
Annie did as she was told. And, to her relief, Fred and George had kept their promise. They Apparated next to Mrs. Weasley, scaring the shit out of her, making Sera grin.
"Oh!" Mrs. Weasley exclaimed angrily before hitting the twins as they laughed. "Just because you are allowed to use magic outside of school, that does not mean that you have to whip your wand at everything!"
"They're just playing, Mrs. Weasley," said Annie gently as she slid past them through the small gap. She sent Mrs. Weasley a gentle smile.
"Are you hungry, Harry, dear?" said Mrs. Weasley kindly. "I assume that you must be famished."
"Are you sure you're alright, Harry?" said Mr. Weasley anxiously. "You gave everyone quite a scare here."
Before Harry could say anything, Sirius appeared. "Harry Potter."
There was a look of relief on Harry's face. He grinned broadly before jumping into his godfather's arms for a hug. "Sirius!"
Annie smiled at the reunion that she knew her brother had longed for.
