The Rescue Mission

***Mackenzie Foy & Walker Scobell as Seraphina Potter & Durante Knightley. The story continues. . . . ***

Both Annie and Ron stared out into the gathering darkness. Evening fell rather quickly on them, and the stars began to pop out in the fading sunset.

"Annie, Ronald, dears," Mrs. Weasley's motherly voice called out to them from inside the newly-built Burrow. "Dinner's ready!"

Annie and Ron glanced over over their shoulders into the warm house, but did not come back inside right away. Annie caught sight of her boyfriend Dante working on laying the plates gently on the table. He caught her staring at him and offered her a warm, reassuring smile, which she then returned.

He knew that Annie was scared. Hell, they all were. Annie and Ron were agreeing on something rather dangerous. So dangerous, that Annie knew that they were basically going on a suicide mission. But she'd risk anything to keep her younger twin safe.

Her life was hanging by the edge of a thread.

No one spoke, or ate a thing during dinner that night. What was the point? Everyone was a nervous wreck at this point.

Finally, all too soon, it was time for Annie, Ron, Fred, George, and Mr. Weasley to leave. Dante began to rise to his feet, too, but Mrs. Weasley stopped him, her snappy voice slashing through the air.

"No! Absolutely not!"

"But Harry is my friend, too! Can't I at least go and support them?!"

"The answer is no, Durante Aurelius Knightley!" Mrs. Weasley shrieked.

Annie stared at Mrs. Weasley in surprise. Never before, in her entire life, had she heard Mrs. Weasley use Dante's full name. She only did that when she was angry at him, but that was incredibly rare.

"Mrs. Weasley, I've been through hell and back more times than I can count —"

"I know, and guess what! You are staying here, mister! I cannot have one of my youngest risking their lives again!"

Dante gave Mrs. Weasley a cold, hard look with his blue eyes. It was a look that took Annie rather taken aback. Finally, Dante sighed, avoiding Mrs. Weasley's glare.

"Can I at least escort them out?" he asked rather bitterly.

"Yes. Ginny, go with him to make sure he follows the rules."

Ginny nodded and got to her feet. Dante and Ginny followed the others outside. Annie knew that Dante was bitter about the fact that he could not go with his friends. Mrs. Weasley had no idea of what all he'd been through. She does not know what he's actually capable of.

"Promise me that you'll be back safely," Dante pressured.

Annie stared at him in surprise.

"Dante, I cannot make that promise. But I will do my best to not get myself killed."

Dante smiled, looking thoughtful. "That's all I wanted to hear."

"Are you lovebirds done saying 'goodbye', or what?" Mr. Weasley asked impatiently. "We're a bit behind schedule, here."

Annie sighed. She leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead. She gave him one last smile before going off with the rest of the Weasleys.

They arrived just as Hagrid did. Annie was the first to approach the door, bouncing excitedly on her feet. She had not seen her brother since the end of their disastrous school year. She knocked on the door. Seconds later, her brother opened the door, his wand aimed out. But once his sister threw her arms around his neck, he relaxed.

"HARRY!" she shrieked excitedly.

"Alright there, Harry?" Hagrid asked as everyone began to file back inside the house.

"Yeah, he's bloody gorgeous," Mad-Eye growled as he limped inside. "Why don't we go ahead and get inside before we all get ourselves killed, eh?"

Everyone made their way to the empty living, disastrously-pink living room. Harry caught sight of Kingsley Shacklebolt, one of their most trusted Aurors there is in the Wizarding World.

"Kingsley, I thought that you were looking after the Prime Minister?" Harry called out.

"Ah, the Minister can get along without me for one night," Kingsley answered. "You and your sister, here, are more important."

Harry continued to glance around and noticed that someone else was not present, either. He turned to see his sister still standing nearby.

"Hey, Annie. Where's your boyfriend? I thought that he was coming, too."

Annie rolled her eyes, blushing slightly. "Well, he was. But Mrs. Weasley refused. I think she's only worried about him because Voldemort is not just after you and me, dear brother."

Bill Weasley, who had come in for a visit to the Burrow, came into Harry's view. His face was horribly scratched. But he stuck his hand out and grinned broadly.

"Hello, Harry. It's finally nice to meet you. I'm Bill."

"Wasn't always this handsome," Fred butted in with a grin.

"Dead ugly, now," George added. His comment caused Annie to step on his foot. He winced and began hopping on his free foot, glaring at Sera.

Bill, however, just smiled. "True enough. I owe it all to a werewolf named Greyback. I hope to repay the favor one day."

"Well, you're still beautiful to me, William," Fleur declared in a throaty voice. She gave Bill a kiss on the cheek.

"Just remember, Fleur," Lupin advised in the background. "Once you marry that guy, Bill will take his steaks on the raw side, now."

Tonks rolled her eyes, smiling playfully. "My husband, the joker. By the way, Harry! Wait until you hear the news! Remus and I, we are —"

Mad-Eye Moody interrupted the light conversation, pushing through the group of friends.

"All right, all right. Less chatting now, if you don't mind. We can have a cozy catch-up later. We've all got to get the hell out of here, and quickly."

He dropped several rucksacks onto the carpeted floor. He turned to face the twins.

"Right. Twins, you are still underage, which means that you've still got the Trace on you."

Harry looked confused. "The Trace?"

"You sneeze, and the Ministry will know who wipes your nose."

"Now is not the time for joking around, Mad-Eye," Annie sang playfully. "We've got a job to do, remember?"

"Yes. Thanks for the clarification, Annie. My point is, we have to use those means of transport that the Trace can't detect: brooms, thestrals, and whatnot. That way, if any one is out there, and I reckon that there will be plenty of 'em Death Eaters out there waiting for us right now, they won't know which Potter twin is the real one."

That quickly caught Harry off-guard. He glanced over at his sister, who seemed unfazed by the news.

"The real one?" he echoed, confused.

Moody drew out two flasks, and Annie immediately knew what it was filled with. Moody smirked.

"I reckon that you know what this is by now?"

Harry did. And he was not going to let anyone risk their lives for him.

"No! Absolutely not!"

"I told him that you wouldn't take the news well," Annie hummed in disapproval.

"If you think that I'm going to let people risk their lives for mine and my sister's —"

"Never done that before. Have we, mate?" Ron teased, trying to light up the tense mood.

"No! This is completely different! Taking that and becoming me and my sister — no. Come on."

"Well, none of us really fancy doing this either, mate," Fred added.

"Yeah," George added. "Imagine if something wrong happened, and we are stuck as scrawny, specky gits forever."

"Everyone here is of age, Annie and Harry," Moody reassured them. "They've all agreed to take the risk."

"Technically, I've been coerced," a short guy butted in. "Mundungus Fletcher, Mr. and Miss Potter. Always been a huge fan of yours —"

"Nip it, Mundungus!" Mad-Eye growled. He sighed and turned to Hermione, giving her a nod. "Alright, Miss Granger. As we've discussed it."

Annie gave the old Auror a withering look before she managed to yank out at least three strands of her bright-red, coyly hair before carefully passing it on to Hermione. She walked straight over towards the flask and carefully dropped the hairs inside. Immediately, the potion began to froth over the rim.

Mad-Eye began to pass around the flask, starting with Fred, first.

"For those of you who have never ever taken Polyjuice Potion before," Mad-Eye declared warningly, "remember: it tastes like goblin-piss."

"You've had a lot of experience with this before, haven't you, Mad-Eye?" Fred tried to joke. Mad-Eye only gave him a glare in return and the smirk on Fred's face began to falter. He then added hastily, "Just trying to defuse the tension."

He took a sip and immediately groaned in disgust, and Sera didn't blame him. He passed the flask that had the red hair around to the people that weren't drinking from Harry's. Shortly after they had all taken the potion, there were now several pairs of Harrys and Annies. And Annie found this to be incredibly weird.

Fred and George smirked gleefully at each other.

"Hey!" said Fred and George at once. "We're identical!"

"Not yet, you're bloody not," Mad-Eye growled.

Mad-Eye pulled out a rucksack full of clothes that were clearly identical to what the Potter twins were carrying.

"Don't you have anything a bit more, y'know, sporty?" George asked, looking disgusted.

"Yeah, I don't technically fancy this color," Fred added disdainfully. To Annie, he added jokingly, "Annie, you don't have any good tastes in clothing color."

"Well, fancy this," Mad-Eye growled. "You are not you right now, so shut your mouth and strip."

"Bill," said Fleur in disgust. "Look away, I'm hideous."

Ron sighed, glancing down at his bare chest. "I knew that Ginny was lying about that tattoo."

Hermione had taken Harry's glasses off, glancing around in shock.

"Wow, Harry — your eye sight really is awful."

"Blimey — I've almost forgotten!" Mad-Eye exclaimed.

And with that, he pulled out another rucksack filled with round glasses.

"Right, then," said Mad-Eye once everyone had gotten nearly situated. "We'll be going in pairs. Each Potter twin will have a protector. As for Harry and Annie —"

"Yes?" everyone called out.

Mad-Eye scowled, clearly not amused.

"The real Harry and Annie. You'll both be going with Hagrid."

"I remembered bringing young Harry here to this ugly house sixteen years ago," said Hagrid fondly. "And I remember the day I brought Annie to the Weasley's. The two of you were about the size of a bowtruckle, at least. Seems only right, I should be the one to take you away —"

Mad-Eye was getting obviously impatient. "Yes, yes. That's all very touching. Let's get going."

They all filed outside. Harry climbed into Hagrid's motorbike. Annie stared apprehensively at it. She had a great fear of heights ever since her disastrous Quidditch game in her third year. She had not flown since then, except for going to the Ministry and rescuing Sirius Black from the dungeon tower of Hogwarts.

"Good luck, everyone! We'll meet each other at the Burrow. On the count of three! One, two —" Hagrid began to rev the motorbike to life "— Three!"

Soon after they had all flown into the air, the chaos started. Annie could see red-and-green flashes of light going left and right. Annie was concerned for everyone else, and so was her brother.

"Hagrid, we've got to go back and help the others!" her brother called out desperately.

Hagrid shook his head. "Can't do it, Harry. I told Mad-Eye that I would get you there, safe and sound! Mad-Eye's orders, remember?!"

But Annie didn't care about Mad-Eye's orders at the moment. She wanted to help her friends. Any of them could be killed at any moment, and it would be her fault.

Before either twin could say anything, four Death Eaters fly in out of nowhere. One of them raised their wand to strike the twins. But Hagrid was rather quick, and pushed a purple button on the dashboard, sending them speeding off. Fire roared behind them in columns. One of the Death Eaters fell to their death.

"What was that?!" Harry demanded.

"Dragon fire," Hagrid answered.

More Death Eaters began to swarm around them. Hagrid unexpectedly dives for the ground, and they enter a tunnel that was filled with ongoing cars. The Death Eaters were still gaining in on them. After their brief pursuit in the car's tunnel, they shot back into the air again.

They continued flying. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a flash of green light filled the air, and Harry's beloved owl, Hedwig, went plummeting to the ground.

"No!" said Harry desperately. "Hedwig!"

But it was no use. The beloved owl was already gone.

"That's them!" said one Death Eater triumphantly. "Those are the real twins!"

The Death Eaters fell back and disappeared.

"Hold on, Annie and Harry!" Hagrid called out. "We've gotta get you two out of here!"

The engines roared back to life once more. Annie clung onto the edges for dear life, her heart pounding. Cold air rushed around her, roaring unpleasantly in her ears, giving her a headache. Her eyes watered.

As they began to make their second escape, the scar on the back of Sera's ear began to sear with pain. She let out a cry, clapping her hand over the scar. With her eyes still squinting in the pain, she could barely see. Suddenly, Voldemort came into view, flying without any flying transportation.

"Hagrid! Hagrid!" Harry cried out desperately.

Hagrid let out a bellow before stomping on the engine and they shot off. Annie watched in horror as bother and Voldemort raised their wands. A gold thread seemed to connect the two wands together. Then —

Whoosh!

Voldemort had suddenly vanished out of nowhere. Annie stared in amazement that Voldemort had just abandoned his fight against her brother. But she realized why once their motorbike crashed into the safe-haven of the Burrow. They landed in the creek, gasping and groaning in pain.

Annie sat up and noticed that her hair was completely wet, and her outfit was soaked, and that she was shivering slightly. She got up trying to get rid of some of the water. Mrs. Weasley was the first to greet them, followed by Dante and Ginny.

"Hagrid Annie! Harry! What happened?! Where are the others?!"

Both twins stared at Mrs. Weasley in shock.

"Has no one else made it back yet?" Annie finally asked. Dante shook his head forlornly.

"They were right on us from the start, Molly," Hagrid explained. "The Death Eaters, I mean. You-Know-Who came chasing after us just moments ago."

Mrs. Weasley looked rather panicked, but glad that the three of them had made it safely.

"Well. Thank goodness, you three had made it safely."

"Do you have any brandy, Molly? For medicinal purposes," said Hagrid.

Mrs. Weasley nodded and led Hagrid into the house. Both Ginny and Harry walked inside together, hand-in-hand. It was now Annie and Dante that were left outside.

"Ron and Tonks should have been back by now," he said in a low voice. "Dad and Fred, as well."

On cue, a blue light shot through the air, not too far away from them, in the brushes. Lupin appeared with an unconscious, bleeding George.

"Oh, my God! George!" Dante breathed, his eyes wide with terror.

"The house! Quickly!" Lupin demanded.

Harry helped Lupin out by taking George's other free arm and wrapping it around his shoulder to support him. Sera and Dante followed anxiously behind them. Mrs Weasley immediately approached her son.

"My boy! My darling boy! What have they done to you?!"

Without warning, Lupin grabbed both of the twins by their shirts, slamming them, hard, against the wall. Annie nearly blacked out from the force, but managed to stay her ground.

"Remus, stop!" Dante cried out. "What are you doing?!"

Lupin ignored him, panting heavily.

"What creature sat in my corner the first time that Harry and Annie Potter visited my office?"

"Are you mad?!" Annie roared back.

Lupin tightened his grip on the twins even further.

"ANSWER ME!" Lupin bellowed.

"We — We both saw a Grindylow," Harry stuttered in shock. Annie nodded, her eyes wide with fear.

Lupin finally relaxed, releasing his hold. In a calmer voice, he added, "We've been betrayed. Voldemort knew that you and your twin sister were being removed tonight. I had to make sure that the two of you weren't imposters."

"Who did this to him, then?" Annie asked, motioning to George, who was now lying on the couch.

"Snape," Lupin answered bitterly. In a calmer voice to Mrs. Weasley, he added, "He'll be fine, Molly. But that's Dark Magic. The damage is already done."

"Someone else is back," Hagrid declared as another bright flash of blue light appeared in the front yard of the Burrow.

Hermione and Kingsley appeared. Hermione looked rather shaken, while Kingsley approached Lupin. He had his wand raised, and Lupin did the same.

"What were the last words that Albus Dumbledore spoke to the pair of us?" Kingsley asked, his voice surprisingly calm.

"He said that 'Harry and Annie Potter are the best hopes that we have. Trust them'."

Shacklebolt nodded before rounding onto Harry.

"What gave you away?"

"Hedwig," Harry answered at once. "I think — I think that she was trying to protect me and my sister."

Another blue light flashed through the sky. Annie was relieved to see Fred, Mr. Weasley, Tonks, Ron, Fleur, and Bill walking inside. Tonks' eyes immediately brightened when she saw Remus and sped towards him, engulfing the werewolf into her arms.

"Ron was brilliant, he was! I wouldn't be standing here without him!"

"Really?" said Hermione in surprise.

Ron grinned guiltily. "Always a ton of surprise."

"Are we the last?" said Mr. Weasley anxiously. "Where's George?"

"Georgie?" Fred called out hopefully.

Mr. Weasley turned to Lupin, his face pale.

"Where is my son?"

Everyone entered the room, now. Fred immediately approached his twin's side. Sensing his twin's presence, he blinked is eyes opened tiredly.

"How are you feeling, Georgie?" Fred asked quietly.

"Saint-like," the tired boy answered, though he gave his twin a lopsided grin.

"Saint-like?" Annie echoed, confused.

"Come again?" said Fred in confusion.

"I'm Saint-like," George repeated. "You see, I'm 'holy'. Holey, Fred. Get it?"

Fred started laughing. "With the whole wide world of ear-related humor at your disposal, you're going for 'holey'? Very pathetic."

"Well. At least I'm better-looking than Bill," George tried to joke.

Bill did not smile. Instead, he looked rather grim. Fleur looked equally as grim.

"Mad-Eye's dead," Bill finally declared. And the entire room went silent. "Mundungus took one look at Voldemort and Disapparated."

Lupin nodded. "Mad-Eye reckoned that You-Know-Who would expect that the real Harry and Seraphina would be travelling with the most powerful Auror in the world. He knew that he would be in the most danger."

"It doesn't explain how they knew we were moving the twins tonight, though," Mr. Weasley quipped.

All eyes shifted over towards Hagrid. He stood there, looking highly uncomfortable, before defending himself.

"What? One of us? That's mad! I'd wager me life if it wasn't none of you lot. And if it was me, I know that I wouldn't. Talk in me sleep on occasions, y'know? I'll admit that. But there's usually only Fang that's hanging around and listening, mostly because it's gibberish. Besides, I'd cut me tongue off before I'd betray Harry in my dreams —"

Hagrid stopped suddenly, glancing around the room. All had smiles on their faces for the first time since they'd all arrived safely at the Burrow.

"What?" Hagrid defended.

"I trust you with my life, Hagrid," Harry answered. "I trust everyone in this room. Understood?"

Everyone agreed, knowing that they could trust one another.
