1. Blushing Birds

"It's just for a few weeks. We'll be back by the second week of November." Mark said as he tried to get Dante and Josh to stop worrying.

Ever since Madam Lousia had helped us take down or rather; put the Lady in White to rest, there was no way around it.

We already had a small notebook with places and names which seemed like future candidates for us to go after. Of people we could help.

Madam Lousia was now our motivator and our agent. If we needed help, she was our go to person and the fact that we were splitting up before we could even start a new hunt was taking a small toll on us.

Dante and Josh are best friends and seemed to stop worrying almost immediately as they were going to be around each other after we left anyway. The wink they shared told us that they had some pranks planned.

"Guess the big boys get to chill while you kiddies head off then." Josh said before turning the conversation toward Dante who seemed rather interested in planning every detail of what they could do when we left.

I looked over at Mark shaking my head at how childish those two could be and he just blushed.

Mark had just turned fourteen yet that was the only thing that changed. He was still failing math miserably and he still had a crush on Jaela. I turned my head to the left as Mark started to concentrate on his shoe.

There she was, Jaela, making her way over to our bench.

"Ignore those two." Kyle said looking down at us since he was standing behind the bench. "We will miss you two," he paused grinning as Jaela reached us, " three. We will miss you three. I just wish you'd told us that you were even considering this trip. But, at least you're all going together."

He stepped around just as the bus came into view a street over. "Take care of my Jae-bird." Kyle warned as he hugged Jaela and all I could do was nod. Mark turned a shade brighter and I knew it would just keep rising from there. As the bus pulled up, Dante and Josh joined us, grabbing up our backpacks.

They walked us onto the bus, dropped our stuff, had a short embrace thing and then walked off. We were leaving for only three weeks on a trip to a small village in London.

We all smiled and waved except for Kyle who nodded and stayed there until the bus was gone too far for us to even see the bench at the end of our street.

The ride was long and my company made it even longer.

Have you ever looked at two birds stuck in separate cages but you could tell they were somewhere near mating season.

Well, Mark's too innocent to even think of that but, that's what I felt like I was looking at when I saw both of them.

It was all one sided though since Jaela was too busy talking to Meagan to notice. But her pale cheeks and side glances every ten minutes said that she at least noticed.

"So, you going to keep staring at him or will you ask him out already?" JJ, sitting beside me asked jokingly and I did the one thing that no guy is supposed to do when he is trying to prove he's straight.

I blushed.

It wasn't because I liked Mark but because I'd been caught mid-eye-roll.

"Umm?" JJ started and I just glared at him causing him to laugh at me and shake his head.

"Don't worry, J bro. I won't say anything." He actually winked at me before continuing his laughing.

I felt my face get warmer but that was probably the only highlight of the entire ride.

Me looking like I had a thing for Mark; who had a thing for Jaela; who was trying to avoid eye contact with anyone but Meagan.

We arrived after nearly everyone had a restful and aching nap. JJ was done laughing by then but his glances made me uncomfortable.

I was starting to have a bit of a sore throat and water was not helping.

Mark was out cold when we'd arrived and there was no way I was taking my eyes off the scenery to awaken him.

The houses were closely situated and all dull alike the ones we had home. The landscapings were small yet extravagant. Each house had its own personality but was still quite similar to the next so much so that they all looked the same after a while. Along the street, there were two houses that seemed a bit bigger and had larger yards than the rest. One was a dull cream colour and the other was a deep hue of grey but both were simply amazing.

"This looks cool." JJ said finally after hours and I couldn't help the grin of acknowledgement.

"Totally." I replied and just like that we were back to normal.

Our teacher at the front of the bus, stood to quiet us before the bus pulled up in front of the cream coloured one.

"We have arrived at our destination. We will all be staying here for the next two to three weeks within the accommodations of the William family. Aside from touring, this will be our main stay. Obey whatever rules they put down and be on your best behaviour." We were all silent as she spoke but she did take the youngest class in the high school with only few seniors so, the silence did not last long.

Everybody grabbed their bags and started off the bus. JJ and I split up and I was beside Mark in seconds. "Wonder what kind of rooms we'll get." Mark asked and I shrugged.

The yard was big enough that we fanned out and stood before the stairs as a large group. It was barely thirty students but with the open space and multiple shrubs, I could tell we looked plenty.

A lean man walked out alongside a young woman and both stopped at the top of the stairs.

Our teacher joined them where she addressed us. "This is Mister And Miss William. Mrs William is currently out visiting her mother near the coast. The William family shall be accommodating us during our stay."

We all said thanks to the William family before Mr William stepped forward slightly, the evening light revealing that what I'd first believed was a full head of white hair was actually missing hair. The top of his head was bald while he had hair around the back of his head ending at his ears. He stopped and stared at us sternly.

Just at that second, there was a siren-like scream from the house next door followed by the sound of several objects shattering at two separate locations. It was like an echo.

All heads were turned in that direction which was why when Mister William cleared his throat, we all jumped and  seemed to be shocked at his calm attitude.

"Umhum..I am Mister Gerad William. I believe that you have all heard of the excitement of the neighborhood already but there is one simple rule of my house which is above all others." His deep voice left everyone uneasy.

"Mind your own business as everyone else minds their own." We all stared at him silently for a few seconds before another round of screams occurred causing everyone to snap out of their trance and to race into the house without a clue as to where they, or rather we, were going.

Much to the amusement of our hosts who followed us inside with grim faces.
