221. The Natural

And so, the night continued. Or should it be called... a morning.

The name of the game was Warring Dimensia 2.

Several minutes later, Julianne Hunter returned with towels and blankets.

Julianne: Here you go, kids.

Rose: Thanks, Mrs. Hunter!

Luke: Yeah, thanks.

Tiffany: Thanks.

Ken took more time to answer as he was still playing against Max.

Ken: Oh, right. Thank you, Mrs Hunter.

Julianne: No problem.

And she placed the towels on a couch...

Julianne: If any of you kids need to take a shower, just use one of these. Ok?

Rose: Ok.

Luke: Hmph.

Ken: Sure.

Tiffany: Alright.

Julianne: Ok then.

She walked off to the kitchen to get herself a mug.

Needless to say, she was a woman in her thirties... and these kids were pushing it up till 2pm.

None of them, in spite of their intense training beforehand, had found themselves or even so much as looked exhausted.

She marvelled at their youth... before she herself yawned.

It had been a long night, and she'd decided to let her son have this treat, but still... she'd be lying if she said she'd rather not be in bed.

And with that, she was tempted to prepare some coffee to keep herself awake.

Come what may, she would not let anything ruin this moment for her son.

That was Julianne Hunter.

As for the others, they all, besides Max  were staring intently at the screen.

Now, there is something to be said about those who have mastered an art.

But before that, one would need a yet better understanding of the game, Warring Dimensia 2.

Or, rather, a better understanding of the perception of those watching Warring Dimensia 2.

To say that all of them had, at least one point, seen some generic shoot 'em up video game would be an understatement.

After all, how many games would have something like that?

A character shoots other characters?

Obviously, basically everyone had seen such a game at least once in their lives.

As for Warring Dimensia 2, it was an exceptional game with incredible graphics, gameplay, and an incredible basis.

Truly, there was nothing quite like it.

However, there was even more to the game than just that.

That being... the classes.

Each class had its own gimmick. Each gimmick had its use in battle.

And of all the gimmicky classes, there was none more peculiar and difficult to use than the Dextrous class.

But, even more perplexing, was actually watching one play with this class.

To say that it was the most absurd looking class would be an understatement.

For one, its gameplay was widely different from that of other classes.

So much so that if one saw the Dextrous class and only the Dextrous class moving from place to place, one would believe that one was playing an entirely different kind of game.

Simply put, it was a weird one.

But, even more, was watching someone who was actually good at playing with it.

The Dextrous class was famous for its double-edged swordedness.

On the one hand, it made avoiding attacks easier.

On the other hand, you needed an incredible amount of hand eye coordination, timing, and even reflexes just to figure it out.

And even then, one wouldn't be good at it.

With that came in Maximillian Hunter, as well as those watching him

Max was, simply put, a master at playing with the Dextrous class.

So much so that, even though Ken wasn't doing anything approximating a bad job with the Attritious class, there was nothing to be said of how absolutely incredible Max's gameplay looked.

It was, simply put, several cuts above what anyone would have expected from the game.

As with all masters of arts, as they practice what their good at, said practitioners become what one may call eye-catching or even beautiful.

Tis truly a fascinating thing.

A good example could be seeing an experienced and talented chef do a trick while preparing food in front of guests.

Maybe he flips a pancake perfectly, maybe he sets something on fire, but it almost "magically seeming" comes out scrumptuous.

In all these things, it's not that he does it, but rather how he does it.

As he flips the pancake, if one watches closely, every second is accounted for. Every minutiae of the details is taken into consideration.

How does one know this?

Because every move made is made so "smoothly" and seemingly effortlessly that any one human who tried this would be completely dumbfounded, confused, and perhaps even fall flat on his or her face.

And why does this happen?

It is because the practitioner has made this a part of his or her self.

So much so that, ...

Luke: Woah... Max....

Rose: Yeah....

Even Tiffany's attention had been taken.

... any and all watching cannot help but be moved by it.

Luke: Is that the Dextrous class?

Max: Yep.

They had all seen Ken play with this class before. However, seeing Max play with this class.... and to top it all off, it being so strange relative to what one would expect from the game....

Needless to say..

... they were flabbergasted.

Luke: (whistle) That's a pretty incredible class.

Rose: I know, right. It looks so...

And words failed her...

After all, what words could she use to describe it?

The Dextrous class could only be described as comparing a runner to a gymnast.

Rose: ... so....

Tiffany: Yeah...

Even Tiffany, who wouldn't ordinarily have an interest in such things, found herself quite taken by the sights.

Max: Naturally...

And he was right.

At this game, he was a natural.

As for Ken...

Ken: (sighs) And I have been forgotten, it seems...

Luke: Well.. you're not that bad.

Ken: Heh.. no worries.

He wasn't really bothered by the lack of attention he was getting. After all, his main objective was defeating Max.

But there and then, Rose turned to Tiffany, something having occurred to her.

Rose: Now I get it.

And then she started giggling, taking the attention of all the children as well as the mother in the kitchen.

Max: Hmmm? What's up?

Rose: I know what it reminds me of. It's Tiff.

Max: Huh!?

At that point, they all, even Max, stopped paying attention to the game and all turned to Tiffany.

Luke: Oh yeah... I guess that's right.

Ken: Hmph. Fair enough.

Max: Huh?

His and Tiffany's gazes met each other.

Max: Whaddya mean Tiff?

Ken: Grappling hooks, jumping up and around, acrobatics...

Max: Hmm?

Ken: Well, I suppose you've only been on the team for a week, so you haven't seen enough of her in action.

Max: Tiffany? Action?

It didn't take long for him to put two and two together.

Rose: Uh huh. That's how Tiff fights.

Luke: Well... minus the death.

Rose: Uh huh. And Tiff always holds back, so no one really gets hurt.

Perhaps it was an odd form of psychological conflict between the two, but Max's eyes remained fixiated on Tiffany for a moment, as did hers on his.

No doubt, Max knew the Dextrous class well.

And so, knowing that she... could do that?

Needless to say, he was impressed.

But also, goven his own personal pride, there was no way he would ever outright admit that.

And so, he turned back and said...

Max: Whatever!

He returned to playing the game.

Max: Besides, controlling the Dextrous class ain't easy either.

Rose: Hmm?

Ken: He's right.

And with that, as if on cue, Ken's character fired bullets at several Dextrous class players trying to surround him.

Ken: While it is a class in this game, it is often stated to be the least used class in the game.

Rose: Really?

Ken: Yes... really. On top of incredible hand eye coordination, you also need incredible reflexes.

And almost as if he'd suddenly had a happy thought...

Ken: (smirking) Of course, those are all things our capable leader just so happens to have.

Rose: Hmm?

And with that, Luke and Rose both turned to Tiffany.

Max himself paused. It made sense.

Could Tiff... actually....?

And Tiffany Chang looked into Kenneth Stone's eyes.

She knew him well enough to know.... well enough to know when he was planning something.

And as to whether or not she was up for it... well.....
