269. Big Empty House
Silence.
Silence in the house written as Everglade Street 76.
It was a big house.
An incredible one even.
What many would quickly come to call, a mansion.
What was more, it was seated right there, smack dab in the middle of all the normal houses.
Like a light in the darkness.
Like a beacon in the fog.
It wasn't just big, it was well furnished, waxed, heck... everything about that house spoke to the opulence of the residents.
And... who were the residents of this great house?
A family of three.
The Wright family.
However... for, many... unknown reasons, those taking the position of mother and father of the household were almost never to be seen.
And so...
Rose: Door open.
And the door replied...
Door: Good evening, Rose.
... and opened.
That was the case for this teenage girl.
Living alone.
She took only a moment to look at the room before entering it.
It was a wide spacious house.
The kind of house you'd gift to someone you truly loved.
The kind of house you'd expect five, maybe 10 people to live in.
As for Rose, ...
... she simply closed her door and walked in.
Thereafter, she sighed.
Not a sound.
Not a single sound.
She put the few packs of food in the fridge as she'd earlier planned to.
And then, off to her room.
There was one and only one thing she was waiting for, or, perhaps, one thing waiting for her.
And that was...
... well, first off, before anything else...
Rose: Here, fishy fishy...
... she had to feed her fish.
Norton brand fish flakes. Also known as... the most expensive fish company in the world.
That was just how much Rose cared for these fish.
And also, just how rich Rose was.
Seeing as, in her room, she had several packs of this food prepped for emergencies.
As for her fish, they were well fed, living the dream.
Food à la Rose, no predators to worry over.
And with that, Rose walked back to what was truly calling her.
Her diary.
Using her psychic powers, she opened it with a snap.
That, in and of itself, was the only way to open her diary.
Brute force.
And with that, she pulled out a pen and began to write.
And of what she would write, well...
... simply put, she had a lot to say.
"Dear diary, oh my gosh! So much has happened! I know, I know. I'm super late. But I have super good reason! Last night, I stayed over at Max's house. Oh my gosh! It was sooooo amazing! Well, not at the start. I mean, well, everyone was super nice, but... then I lost a fight against Max. I was so scared of what Tiff would think, but then Tiff told me that she wasn't upset, and after my match with her, she said she'd almost lost."
"Can you believe it? I almost beat Tiff!"
"But that's not all! After that, I got to see Max fight Ken. Oh my gosh! It was so exciting! I thought Max was gonna win, then Ken, and then, I just didn't know. Ken is super smart, but Max is just so cool! Ken froze the floor, so Max couldn't use his super speed, but then, Max just started ice skating! He's so talented!"
"Oh, who won?"
"Well, Ken won. But Max was still pretty cool, though."
"Oh, and after that, we had a dinner party. And OH MY GOSH! Mrs. Hunter is a genius."
"Remember how I told you about how she's an amazing cook?"
"Well, turns out, she's also an amazing designer."
"She's a cook, a designer, an actress, a scientist, and so many other things."
"Oh my gosh, I hope I get to be just like her someday."
And it was then, after the excitable conversations, that Rose herself paused, almost as though contemplating something.
And then, she continued.
"And then, we learned a lot about Max. I mean a lot."
"Max is..."
And she paused again.
Truly, this was hard even for her to write.
"... really going through some things."
"I mean, he's still super tough and super strong, but... I dunno...."
She pulled her pen away from the book and started to think again.
It was hard.
A pain even she couldn't understand.
How could one explain that?
All on his own.
All alone.
What did that mean?
She... truly did not understand.
"I'm really worried about him."
"Do you think he'll be ok?"
And with that, she paused again.
The memories of the previous night walked into her mind.
What he'd said... his planet, his family, himself...
Rose then continued...
"Luke said he'll be fine, but... I dunno. I don't think I've ever heard of something like that."
And then, she paused again, before...
"I mean, do you know anyone who feels all alone in the world, with no one like them?"
"Do you?"
And then, she paused once more...
"Yeah, maybe I'm worrying too much. Maybe Luke is right."
"Maybe Max will be fine."
"And you know what, I'll see him tomorrow."
"And that's ok. Because no matter what happens, I've got his back."
"Oooohh ooooh also, Mrs. Hunter got me some food. I'll go get some right now."
And with that, the girl scurried off into the kitchen to get to the fridge.
