Crosshair ~ Fate (happy ending)
Since the last Crosshair oneshot made me cry, I decided to write a part 2. This is for the people that were not satisfied with the original ending.
This oneshot starts when Y/N and Crosshair are talking in the forest. (The scene when Y/N was shot in the other ending) just so you have some kind of orientation when this takes place.
Also: this one could also be kind of emotional idk
(~5555 words)
———————
"Come on Crosshair" you nearly yelled "you have to remember me." No reaction. No emotion could be seen on his face.
You took a step towards him and reached out one of your hands to remove Crosshair's helmet. He let you proceed and soon his helmet hit the floor, rolling a few times until it stopped at the root of a gigantic tree.
"How could it come so far?" You asked but no reply. Not that you thought that you would actually get something out of him but you still sighed disappointed.
Then you proceeded "how could things escalate so quickly?" You asked merely yourself. You looked on the floor. By now Crosshair had lowered his rifle, listening to the things you had to say but still cautiously watching every single movement you did, prepared to snap when something threatened him.
"You have to remember the bond that we had" you cried out hopelessly. You couldn't lose him. Not now. Not ever.
You weren't scared that he would shoot you, you just wanted your Crosshair back and you were convinced that he still lived somewhere in this man in front of you.
"Crosshair" you sighed "I always talked about wanting a child. For me the biggest blessing on earth is to take care for the innocent little bundles that overwhelm you with joy. And damn" you began to get a bit louder. "Crosshair - I wanted you to be the baby daddy. I wanted you to be the father of my children. Some little mini Crosshair's and little mini versions of myself. I wanted it all. With you. Cause I goddamn love you. I want a future with you and only you"
You looked up again. Eyes locking immediately with Crosshair's brown ones. Still no emotion. He just looked at you.
Then his facial expression changed. You did not know what it was at first but you had to find out soon.
He raised his blaster and pointed it towards you. Then he scoffed and chuckled
"A future?!" He asked sarcastically "you really think I want a future with a traitor. Someone who betrayed the Empire - and me?! You are naive to think that I want." He laughed. "My mission is to get rid of you. To eliminate all of you and it will be a pleasure to do it. I will enjoy every single moment."
He looked in your eyes. They were full with emotions. Filled with hate and disgust and with the pleasure of having you in his hands. The pleasure of you being helpless while he pointed his gun at you.
He spat out "but let's start slow. I want to enjoy this moment"
As if it was slow motion, you saw the next few moments. His fingers getting closer and closer to the trigger, about to pull it. You just stood there with terror in your eyes. He wouldn't dare, you thought
But it hit you hard like the bullet: yes he would, and he just did.
The bullet hit you in the left leg, making you tumble backwards against a large tree where you feel on your ass.
You couldn't think straight. Pain rushing through your body, soon followed by fear. He really shot you. The man you thought would never hurt you, just shot you in your leg.
A hand pulling your hair roughly forced you to look up and into their face. It was Crosshair.
Your face represented the pain you were currently in but you tried to push it down as good as possible. You didn't want to give him the satisfaction of seeing you suffer and in pain. That's what he wanted but that's not what he's getting.
You pressed your lips together but as he looked at you, you hissed
"Come on. Kill me. Do it" challenging you raised your eyebrows, mocking him. But that mocking tone quickly left as he pressed his fingers into your blaster wound, making you cry out in pain.
In the distance you could hear people screaming. They were screaming your name. Hoping they would be able to find you soon, you started to scream. That gave Crosshair the satisfaction he wanted. He grinned at you
"Oh are you hurt, little'un" he asked as he pushed his fingers even further into the wound "let's make it more comfortable for you" he whispered into your ear before he got onto his legs again.
This time he took the knife from his belt and pointed it towards you.
"Hmmm" he thought out loud "I could kill you right here, right now." Your head shot up in fear. He really wanted to do this. He was ready to kill you.
You put together all the strength you had and tried to crawl behind the tree in order to be out of shooting range. He watched your attempt amused.
After some time of you crawling on the floor, Crosshair had enough. He pinned you against the tree once again. one leg pressing against your chest he chuckled "where do you think you are going?"
You didn't answer. All you did was looking straight into his eyes. They showed nothing but hate and that hurt you. You couldn't hold it any longer so you quickly looked down on the floor. Why did this happen to you, you asked yourself. You were willed to do everything to get Crosshair back no doubt but being killed by the one you used to love, is something different. Something you didn't want your last memory to be.
You felt numb and tired. So tired. All you wanted to do was closing your eyes and rest but Crosshair didn't have it.
You just wanted to close your eyes as a loud screeching sound made you flinch and open your eyes again. It was Crosshair who dragged the knife over your chest plate, causing that awful sound. They made your ears ring and hurt even more.
He smirked as he saw the pain in your eyes. Then, out of nothing he stopped.
His eyes rolled into the back of his head, followed by a semi loud noise as he fell to the ground. The knife fell out of his hand and as soon as his body touched the ground you began to crawl away in fear.
Was it over now, you asked yourself not daring to look up and see who just shot Crosshair.
Your mind was clouded, not letting you think straight. All your mind screamed was to get away as fast as possible which wasn't really fast since one of your legs didn't work properly.
A hand touching your shoulder made you flinch hard and let out a small scream.
"Hey hey. Calm down Y/N. Calm down. It's over now" at first you couldn't match the voice to someone you know but when you looked up you spotted Hunter who talked to you in order for you to calm down.
A stressed sigh exited your mouth as you tried to calm down.
"Come on. Breathe with me. A heavy breath in" Hunter sat beside you "and breathe out" he said softly, trying to get your breathing under control.
You did as he said and after a few minutes you calmed down, your chest now sinking slowly at acceptable distances.
You looked around and saw the rest of the bad batch look at you worried. Then your gaze fell on the still not moving Crosshair that lay a few feet away from you.
"Is he dead?" You asked feeling slightly the panic come back.
"Don't worry. He is just unconscious. Tech stunned him" you breathed out. The mission was successful.
You nodded your head to signal the others you heard what he said.
"Let's go" Hunter tapped your shoulder as he stood up "Wrecker" he ordered "you take Crosshair" then he looked down to you. You still hadn't moved one bit and even if you tried, everything would just hurt even more than it already did.
With a bit of your remaining strength you pointed in a small movement at your leg
"I guess I need some help" you tried to say jokingly but they all looked at you concerned.
Immediately Hunter picked you up. A small gasp escaped your mouth from the impact. That shit hurt.
"Sorry, darling" Hunter apologized "now let's get moving. I want to leave this planet as soon as possible"
They began to walk towards the Havoc Marauder. During the walk you felt tired. All you wanted was to sleep, to close your eyes and get some rest. Some rest from the traumatic events you just went through. Your eyes closed nearly immediately and your head fell on hunter's chest.
The next time you woke up, you found yourself in your bunk on the Havoc Marauders
The bright light dazzled you as you sat up. But then the pain hit you, making your face grimace in pain. A few moments passed until you finally got used to the pain. After you did you looked at your leg, realizing it was bandaged and treated right to stop the wound from getting infected.
You sighed as you fell back on the bed. In that moment the door opened and Hunter entered.
"I sensed that you woke up. How are you doing?" He approached you.
"I guess I'm alright" you replied. "How is Crosshair?" You asked back
"We were able to remove the chip" Hunter sat down beside you "he is already recovering from the surgery. we are convinced that it worked and he's back"
He looked at you "do you want to see him?"
"No" you quickly mumbled. You had not processed the traumatic events from a few hours ago, so you were not ready to see him now. Especially when they were not sure that the procedure really worked.
And to be honest: you were scared. The incident with Crosshair in the forest scarred you probably for the rest of your life. He was ready to kill you and already kind of tortured you. Chip or no chip, that scared you and you wouldn't be able to look at this man the same again. This has changed everything.
"I understand" Hunter replied, seeming to know what you were thinking. He patted your shoulder as he stood up. He was about to leave the room when he turned around and said "One day you have to forgive him. It was not his own action. He would never hurt you willingly and you know that"
You looked at him with tears in your eyes. He was right but you couldn't. Not right now. In fact you were not sure that you were able to forgive him ever in your lifetime.
Instead of saying any of that you just replied with a simple "I know. I just need time"
Then Hunter left the room.
You sighed out as some silent tears streamed over your face. Why did this happen to you, you asked yourself. You didn't care about the injury. You had been injured a thousand times, so this wasn't new for you. But the fact that the one man in this universe you were in love with, was the one to shoot you, broke your heart in a million pieces. If Hunter and the others hadn't stopped him, your love would have even killed you. Without even blinking, he would have executed his orders. And that betrayal hurt even more than the wound you suffered from the shot.
A day has passed until you finally felt comfortable enough to leave your room. That at least was your mission for today. You wanted to help the boys today so you tried to get up slowly. The leg still hurting but you ignored it as much as possible. Then after your feet were on the floor, you grabbed the nearest thing for some stability to stand up.
That was easier than you thought, you commented to yourself. But the hard part was about to come. It was walking. But you eventually figured out how to make a few steps without hurting as much.
It took a while for you to reach the door. It opened and you took your first steps outside.
What you didn't consider is that in the exact same moment Crosshair walked past your little room.
Immediately his head shot into your direction to look at you. The sudden movement made you flinch hard, your hands shot up in front of your face, covering it to protect your face for an upcoming attack.
But none was coming. Nothing hit you. A few moments have passed until you dared to look from behind your hands.
Crosshair only stood there looking at you in total shook. He didn't expect this kind of reaction but who could judge you. His expression soon changed to a rather sad one which was really unusual him.
He took one last sad glance at your figure that was still in a defensive position in order to protect yourself, then he proceeded to walk into the back of the ship, leaving you alone.
As soon as he left, you sighed out, catching for air. You didn't realize that you had been holding your breath the entire time and now you really needed it. Calming yourself down, you began to slowly walk into the cockpit where Tech and the other bad batch members were having a conversation.
That was the first time you saw Crosshair after the incident.
The second time was not even slightly better. After the first incident the two of you were kind of ignoring each other, having as less contact as possible. Of course the others noticed that but they told themselves you just needed some time to process the traumatic events.
A few days have passed since you kind of ran into each other. This time you were about to leave the planet you had made a short stop to get some supplies for the next weeks.
Helping the others getting the stuff you needed, the short mission was over really fast and soon you had to leave the planet already.
You entered the ship with Omega in your arms and walked towards your seat. Once you were inside, you let her down while the others were all walking into the ship as well. Walking towards your usual seat you realized that the seat next to you was Crosshair's. The one he was usually sitting in before all that drama happened. You looked around trying to find a solution how you could avoid sitting next to him. You saw Omega and you decided that you had found the perfect person to sit next to you while flying.
Walking up to omega you patted her head. As she looked up she asked "What is it?"
"I just wondered" you started as you kneeled down next to her "if you would like to sit next to me during the flight. There are a few things I want to show you"
She looked at you, her eyes getting bigger and bigger in surprise. Then a huge smile spread across her face
"I would love to" she exclaimed as she already stormed towards Crosshair's usual seat.
You helped her into the seat.
Just as you helped her fasten the seatbelt a monotone voice started to speak
"You are sitting in my seat, child" your body immediately stiffed at the sound of it. You did not even had to look up to know that it was Crosshair who spoke.
You quickly completed fastening Omega's seatbelt. Then you slowly looked up and right into Crosshair's brown eyes. At the sight of you the hard expression immediately changed into a softer one but it was already too late when the flashbacks hit you. The flashbacks of Crosshair hovering over you with the knife ready to stab you. It was as if you relived the whole moment over and over again. Crosshair shooting you in the leg while mocking you and enjoying every single moment. His hard, filled with hate and disgust, eyes had burned themselves into your memory.
Your breathing quickened as a panic attack was about to hit you.
A little hand touched yours and you looked down, right at Omega whose calming and caring aura surrounded you just by her slowly and carefully touching your hand. That made you calm down a little. You breathed in and out while looking into Omegas understanding eyes. She seemed to know what was going on. Slowly you managed to get your breaths under control.
After you did, you looked up but this time preparing for Crosshairs presence.
Of course this situation didn't go by him without him noticing, so it was no surprise that he looked at you worried. He wanted nothing more than to help you. The guilt clearly eating himself alive. The sight of you panicking when ever he was around and came closer killed him. And he surely hated himself for everything he has done.
He wanted to help but he knew that with him being around, he would make things just worse, so he mumbled some quick words like
"I'll just go sit somewhere else" before walking to the seat that was the furthest away from you.
You sighed as you let yourself fall down on your own seat, omega's hand still in yours.
From the corner of your eye you saw Hunter who walked towards Crosshair talking to him for a moment. The others of course saw the whole interaction as well and Hunter could even feel your heart beating faster and faster after Crosshair approached you and Omega.
What you were not able to hear was the conversation between the two. After Hunter walked up to Crosshair, Crosshair didn't even acknowledge his presence. Head resting on his hands looking down he looked nothing but alright. That unusual sight of Crosshair even surprised Hunter. He knew that Crosshair did not take your sudden distance well. After all he knew that Crosshair loved you with his whole heart. And He would never forget the broken look on his face as he had to explain to his little brother what he had done to his love. It was even worse when Crosshair's memories came back, remembering the traumatic event himself.
"Just give Y/N some time" Hunter spoke up after a few moments of looking at his brother who just sat there clearly lost.
"Go away" was the only grumbled response he got.
"No Crosshair I am not going away. Do you remember that one time. It was one of our first missions and I had this thing for this woman, we later found out was a bounty hunter?" He asked
"How could I forget that" Crosshair mumbled "you were heartbroken"
"Exactly" Hunter replied "you were the one helping me through that phase. During that hard time you were by my side day and night, not letting me out of sight cause I might have been up to something stupid. Do you remember that?"
"Yea. Yea I do" Crosshair said finally looking up and into Hunter's eyes. There was so much guilt in them and fear. Fear of losing you, the one he would do anything for.
"And that's what I will do for you" Hunter sighed patting Crosshairs shoulder.
It was so unusual for him to see his little brother showing emotions. This was rare and showed that he was going through extreme emotions.
"So as I Said Little Brother" Hunter Said "I won't leave you. Not now. Not ever. And Y/N will also not leave you. She needs time"
"Will things ever be the same?" Crosshair asked his voice cracking a few times.
"No. It won't" he sighed "but you have to make the best out of it"
"As if that's so easy" Crosshair mumbled merely to himself. His thoughts were going into the wrong direction. He was blaming himself for everything that happened. In fact he felt like everyone would be better off without him.
Crosshair looked up and at Hunter once again. Then he said in a serious tone.
"I think you are all better off without me. I broke all your trust and hurt you. I think I should leave this squad. Don't want to cause any more pain than I already have" he mumbled the last few words thinking about the pain you were going through. He couldn't even think of how hurt you were.
Hunter quickly brought his brother out of his thoughts
"Are you out of your mind" he nearly exclaimed sitting down next to him. "This will make none of us happy. Not you and most certainly not us. You are right. We need to build new trust but that is something we are all willed to do. We all knew what we were getting into when we decided to save you. We knew that nothing would be the same anymore and that there would be a lot of work ahead of us. But we agreed to do it anyways. Because we love you. We all do"
Crosshair was slightly touched by Hunter's little speech but tried not to show it.
Instead he said in a sarcastic tone
"How touching"
Hunter laughed it off, knowing well that his brother loved the words he just said.
Then Hunter stood up and joined Tech in the cockpit to finally get off this planet.
When he walked away, he left Crosshair behind whose mind could only concentrate about one thing that Hunter had said "there is a lot of work ahead of us". And for the first time in a few days Crosshair felt a little bit of hope. Hope that things might get better soon.
It was evening when you finally headed back into your room. You were tired. Omega really had a lot of energy and was interested in everything around you, so you found yourself the last few hours explaining everything you knew to the little girl. But now all you needed was some rest. Some rest for your leg and your mind.
You walked into your room and immediately fell on your bed, making yourself comfortable on it. A few moments later you heard the rest of the bad batch walking into their bunks as well. It was night time. Time to rest.
You were about to fall into an uneasy sleep when you heard a small noise from your door. Your head immediately shot up, trying to figure out what that noise was.
From your bed you couldn't make out what it was. So you had to stand up and walk towards the door slowly and cautious, ready to snap whenever something happened.
But nothing happened.
In fact as you walked closer, you could make out a little piece of paper that someone had slipped underneath door.
Looking at it suspicious you finally picked it up. You had to unfold it a few times until you were able to read the message someone wrote on it.
You switched the light on to be able to read it better.
In a clean and beautiful writing there were two words written on it
"Hey Y/N"
You chuckled after you read the words. Who of the boys gets the idea of writing things on a piece of paper. They could just come in and talk to you.
"You can just come in" you said, hoping the person behind the door could hear you.
A few moments passed. Then another piece of paper was pushed into your room
"I'd rather not" was the message on it. This time you decided to play the game with whoever was behind the door.
"Ok. Then what are you doing here?" You pushed back into the main room of the Havoc Marauder.
"Just leaning against your door and writing to you" was the 'funny' answer. But it made you chuckle anyways.
"Funny" you commented through the door and you could swear that you heard someone chuckle on the other side of the door.
You wrote something else on the paper.
"Since you are such a joker here a more precise question: why are you writing me?"
You made sure that it was delivered to the other side. Shortly after you received a little note saying.
"You want the long story or the short one?"
"The long one" you replied.
Then you waited for a few minutes. The person behind the door obviously writing whatever was on their mind.
A new piece of paper found its way into your room. Immediately picking it up you began to read the message
"Dear Y/N,
the past few days haven't been easy. Not for you, not for the rest and most certainly not for me. Ever since I came back, all that is on my mind is the guilt. The guilt of hurting all of you and specifically you. I hurt you, not just physically but also mentally and that is unforgivable. There is no way that I will ever forgive myself for the trauma you had to go through because of me.
I saw the way you react towards me. I saw the hurt, the fear in your eyes. The fear that I might hurt you again and this kills me.
These looks on your face make me hate myself even more.
I don't judge you for the way you act towards me. In fact I rather understand it.
So I came to the conclusion that I want to help you. That's why I am sitting in front of your door, writing to you.
Seeing me scared you, so maybe it helps if I write to you. Maybe that way we can talk about everything you want, maybe you can also start trusting me again.
Y/N, I want nothing more than you to trust me again. I want you to be comfortable around me. Damn - I even want you to hug me (don't tell my brothers that I said that). I want to be close to you.
Of course nothing will be the same but I am willed to do everything that needs to be done in order for you to feel good again.
You deserve to be nothing but happy.
Fuck Y/N. I am so in love with you. And that will never change
I don't want to keep you awake any longer. You should get some rest.
Just remember that I will always be here for you, even if that means that it can't be in person but I won't give up on you.
I love you
-C"
By the end of the letter, tears were streaming down your face, making your eyes red and your cheeks puffy. You sniffled and put the letter on the floor next to you.
Then you whispered
"Goodnight Crossie" before heading to bed still crying heavily. You loved the thought of him wanting to comfort you just by writing you through the door. This was so thoughtful that it melted your heart and for the first time in a few days you were able to sleep through the whole night without waking up due to a nightmare.
The next evening you sat in your room once again, this time looking at some pictures on your holopad. Most of them were ones you took secretly of the bad batch. There were some where Hunter cleaned his holy knives. He was so into cleaning them properly that he did not realize you making the picture.
There were also other pictures of Tech who had fallen asleep in the cockpit once again. He always did. In the picture, Tech slept on the seat in the most uncomfortable way possible. No surprise he always complained about his neck hurting.
You looked through some more pictures. You found one you secretly took from One of the rare group cuddling sessions the bad batch had.
Your activity was interrupted when you heard the same noise you heard the day before. Quickly getting up and walking towards the door, your suspicion turned out to be true. There was another piece of paper that Crosshair had pushed into your room.
"My name is not Crossie" was everything written on the paper, making you chuckle slightly. You could literally see Crosshair pouting in front of the door from your inner eye.
You quickly wrote back
"Oh don't be a crybaby. I know you love that name"
You could hear a scoff from the other side of the door. You just laughed.
"Pfff don't mock me." Said the next message. Then another one followed
"So how was your day?"
You shrugged at the sudden change of topic but you proceeded to answer his questions. And just like that, the two of you spent the whole night writing to each other, occasionally laughing and making fun of one another.
This continued every evening over and over again for the next few weeks.
Two weeks after Crosshair first wrote a message, the two of you wrote less messages but instead talked more and more through the door, slowly talking about everything. Crosshair even opened up to you, telling you things you never imagined he would say to you.
And after a short time you even started trusting him again. It wasn't the same as before. But it was a start
Now, around three weeks after the first message, you were always excited for the evening to come, knowing that you were able to talk to Crosshair.
As usual you heard him sit down in front of your door and then making the first move
„Good evening" he greeted you
"Hey Crossie" you replied while smirking
"How often do I have to tell you not to call me that" he scoffed but you just laughed. You would never stop calling him that.
"You should really stop mocking me" Crosshair simply replied. Then he changed the topic, telling you something about his day and how Wrecker got on his nerves again but you didn't listen.
Instead you tried to put together all the courage you had. You hesitated at first.
"Do it Y/N. You can do it" you mumbled to yourself.
And then you just did it.
You opened the door. Crosshair who originally leaned against your door fell backwards, letting out a noise of surprise. He wasn't prepared for it and now he lay on the floor.
Looking up he just saw your face that looked amused.
He didn't care. He just looked at you. This was the first time he was able to see you from a closer distance and not from the other side of the room when you were talking about mission with the other bad batch members.
His eyes tried to capture everything of you, not missing any detail.
In the meantime you were also not able to take your eyes off of him. He was handsome in every single way. You loved that he had dropped the mask of being an emotionless idiot and just seemed to enjoy laying on the floor looking at you as if you were some kind of goddess.
A few moments later you finally said something, interrupting the silence between you two.
"I think I am ready" you said. This brought Crosshair out of his trance and he slowly pulled himself together and stood up. He took a few steps back in order to give you enough space.
You quickly made the distance between you two shorter by taking a few steps towards him. Then one of your hands came up to his face and traced his outlines. He leaned into the touch clearly enjoying being near you.
You removed your hand and looked at Crosshair. You looked straight into his eyes. This time no flashbacks hit you and the only things you could see were his loving eyes that also looked straight into yours. And for the first time in a while you felt comfortable around him. The way he looked at you made you feel good and you were nothing but happy.
You smiled at him and he did the same. It was unusual to see him smile but you loved it. It was the most prettiest smile you had ever seen and it melted your heart.
Not being able to hold yourself back, you took one last step towards him. Now that your were so close to him, you realized that he was nervous. He didn't want to scare you or make you uncomfortable. But he did nothing of that. In fact he did rather the opposite. You felt loved and wanted and you wanted to show him that.
You slowly put your hands over his shoulder pulling him in for a hug.
At first it was kind of awkward since Crosshair wasn't the person that had been hugged a lot. But after a few moments he relaxed into it, leaning into your touch while he hugged you back with such care as if he was scared to break you.
This was the start of something great. Something that wasn't easy but the both of you were ready to do everything that needed to be done in order for it to work out.
And you nailed it.
—————
Hey everyone! I hope you liked the different ending of this one shot.
Why did this also make me emotional? I have no idea but it did.
Anyway: I hope you all have a good day!
(And as always I am open for feedback)
